[Q] Few questions...? - Galaxy Ace II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, first off all, I'm looking for a basic ROM, don't need any fancy feautures or anything the most important thing to me is that its stable and everything works and the battery life is good. All I'll be using the phone for is calling people, texting, Facebook, Snapchat and maybe a few other things... No gaming or anything just basic things...
What would you recommend? I'm currently trying cm11 but looking at aosp, would this be better for me?
I have a nexus 7 and love the plain android...
Also does anyone else have lag when unlocking/waking up the phone? Soft key buttons light up but it doesn't come on for about 2 or 3 seconds?
And one more thing, is about 555mb of ram normal?
Much help and advice would be appreciated...
Thanks.

[Q] is the nexus laggy?

Hello all!
I'm currently looking into buying the gsm galaxy nexus (S. Korea) and am torn between it and the Galaxy s3, which hasn't been released here yet. I was just hoping to hear from Nexus owners, is there any choppiness or lag to the Nexus (stock version) at all? (app drawers, moving in homescreens, transitions to menus, etc.)
I saw the video posted by xda demoing the S3 and was impressed by how smooth and seamless all the transitions were! Honestly, I love the Nexus design more than the S3 and don't really like the way touchwiz looks.
I don't mind that the Nexus falls behind in terms of specs, I'd just love to hear that day to day use of the phone is a smooth and frustration-free experience...
Thanks!
Not really, and if there is, you can root and fix it.
No.I take it for daily use(no game)and it just runs like flying.

Hi,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494685&highlight=laggy
After about 6 months of having this phone I can tell you I've had no lag issues whatsoever with stock. I've used animated wallpapers, multiple browsers, graphic intensive games, hd movies and do not remember the phone staggering at all.
In contrast my transformer prime does lag all the time, which doesnt make sense, since the hardware specs are better. But thats not related to your question.
Anyway, if you have the chance to try it somewhere, do so. It's always better to see it for yourself.
Not if you know what you are doing, people who complain of lag do not.
Well said wiredpirate. I have no lag issues here.

Awesome! good to know, thanks guys.
Wiredpirate, do you think you can tell me what you mean by "knowing what I'm doing?" Does that mean using compatible roms/kernels combinations? Moderate widget use?
Do you have any recommendations on kernels? (I'd like to keep stock rom)
Factors that are important to me are:
-smooth, stutter-free performance
-good battery life
-good phone reception/ 3g signal (don't know if this can be influenced by the kernel)
I DON'T plan on doing any intensive (3D) gaming. Web browsing will be fairly important. Customization is not important whatsoever; I love the completely vanilla ICS. Any recommendations would be amazing...Thanks!
Sorry if I'm not supposed to ask another question mid-thread like this.

As far as a kernel I am happy with Franco. Definitely moderate widget use. Don't have to many apps that run in the background, or that stay awake with a background process. Use spare parts to set window animations and transitions to fast. Use a third party Launcher like Nova and set the speeds to fast, or in the case of Nova "faster than light". Don't have too many accounts syncing in accounts & sync. Set other apps not to sync or to rarely sync. Use "full power" setting in kernel. There has to be 10-20 other things I can't think of right now, when in doubt don't change the settings. Somebody else jump in with things you know helps. It's easy for me to change something and be able to tell if it slows down the phone, then I know not to use those settings.

Im running an AOSP Rom and get easily a full days use with an on screen time of about 3.5 hours and 75% brightness. This phone kills my HTC Vivid on battery and performance. There is NO lag. I highly recommend it

[Q] [4.2.2] PARANOIDANDROID v3.60 | HALO |

Hello guys i have few questions about this rom from WoH, at the moment i am using 4.2.2 rom based on CM 10.1 from VJ, but his version will not have update soon, so i decide to check install new rom from my topic. I have few question if You can answer it will be nice:
*1* Does work properly the sound of messages? For VJ roms i usually use low sound fixer, but without luck. So rom have any issuess about sound? Works fine? Sound is loud and i can hear the sms sound? (Everybody who have VJ rom know about this problem)
*2* Does work the headset or earphones without any problem? (Now when i plug in my headset i always have soft reboot)
*3*Can You compare to VJ rom based on CM 10.1? (Speed, performance, battery drain, soft reboots etc.)
*4*It is possible to disable HOLO - i mean thing like quick menu
*5*Could You write Pros and cons of the WoH rom? Any problems issuess and possible fix or some tips?
Thank You guys!

Easiest way would be to nandroid backup your current rom, then install this ROM and try it out for yourself.
1 - don't know
2 - don't know
3 - this will be very different for different people and setups, again you are the best judge based on your setup and usage, not someone else's
4 - yes, I use PA on my nexus 7. It's disabled by default I believe.
5 - pros and cons will be quite subjective, read the thread to see what's working and other people's responses. Again you'll be the best judge if you install it.

Well, thanks, but You don't help me so much. I found on the forum few things, at first i want to compare to HTC DESIRE in DESIRE thread not to Nexus 7 or any other device. For example few things work perfect on nexus 4, not on Desire like Camera. About pros and cons it will be for example, good performance, but fast battery drain. Many other things. So You don't know so much. I ask people which got experience with HTC Desire and have this rom on this phone.
So BUMP please

The ROM is still a port, and I've used it for a different device true. However Halo is part of the ROM, and it can be disabled. Other things can be found out by reading the thread, or better yet....just installing it and trying it.

I may not have experience in that exact ROM, but trust me I know enough to help you as I have helped many other people here
"Good performance, but fast battery drain" is subjective....how exactly do you define "good" or "fast" in this case? Some people define good as "stable...but has a few random reboots", but is this ok for you? Others don't mind lag, but might find it good as it's latest android with a few more features.
Fast battery drain varies massively depending on how you use the device, no two people use them the same way. You have not told us how you even use your device, and what you define to be "good" or "fast battery drain"
From bumping it, you could get some replies from a limited number of users. Some saying it's AMAZING / LAGGY / OK, some saying it has amazing battery / poor battery / suitable for medium / light / heavy usage...but you have no idea how they use their phone, how many ROMs they've tried for comparison, or the age of their battery etc. And again their perception of good or fast battery drain is different from yours. You may think getting 'reviews' from others is useful, but I'm merely warning you they can be very misleading for various reasons
In all this time you have waited for replies...you could have easily made a nandroid backup and just tried the ROM yourself. This is always the best way of testing for your usage and setup like I said, not from other people with completely different usage...then you make up your own mind and see if it's suitable for you
If you don't like it, you have a nandroid backup to go back to, so I don't see why you're waiting...
Well, You suggest to better install before ask about sth. At the moment imo i am using a good rom. I create topic to not spam thread in developers section. I have time to change rom, but i want to do it in future. Some people, used other roms and maybe have experience and they can share opinions.
So at the moment few questions:
- is here in WoH roms a soft reboots? How often?
- as i know all JB roms got problems with camera, what about recording? In VJ rom my video playback, which i record is lagged and broken, what with WoH rom?
- there is some issuess with headset or earphones, when You plug into the phone?
- is here a low sound notification problem? Any fix?
I am asking, because i don't want to spend time to testing, i can install or sth, but not have too much time for reinstalling and finding the best one. Few questions give me an answer what i am looking for
For me it is better to ask, than shouting about problem.

Can you refer me to a rom?

I know everyone hates which rom is the best, but i seriously have trouble finding or narrowing down my results. here's the deal.
I tried wanam, CM, phoenix, asylum, and maybe one or 2 others
Only ones i liked were the stock Samsung, and the Alliance, and Omega.
Alliance was my favorite, but something relating to the notification panel kept crashing. i put up with it for a while, but it started getting annoying.
I liked Omega, but i felt like it was too "intense" as in short battery life and stuff.
Here's what i want:
Reliable .. rock solid no crashes
Preferably debloated
NOT AOSP
Not updated too much. Alliance got one major update every few month. I'm busy so i can't update my phone every week or every day.
Can be downgraded from Asylum without loss of imei. (I'm ok with full wipes) but i heard issues relating to new modems and downgrading.
second most important stuff:
battery life
easy to use
a lot of "basic" functionality/mods (like call recording, no sms in call log, etc)
Preferably 4.3
Mind you I'm not a heavy modder. just basic phone use. (phone, sms, Facebook, instagram, etc).
Also i like a to install kernals to boost speaker volume. (don't care about OC or UC)
Hi!
Not everybody hates this question Actually from what you wrote, I can direct you to the one ROM that meets all you need: DN3 v2.
But I have a thing to ask in reply: please read the OP carefully before trying the ROM, we wouldn't like you to get mad at anybody if something goes south. Anyway, the DN3 is sweet, smooth, with good battery life and has all the bells and whistles of Note 3. You'll love it.
P.S. You might wanna back up your current ROM, just in case...

[Q] The most RAM saving ROM

Greetings,
I've been around for some time, lurking mostly. And installing a ROM with ICS or JB on my Galaxy W was a wonderful way to innovate. It feels like I'm using a brand new phone, which is awesome.
I have tried Cyanogen mod and Paranoid Android and even the PAC roms. But the issue I run while using them is that my ram seems to be full most of the time, and it's filled with system apps more than my own apps. Which limits the phone seriously. I am almost unable to use Swiftkey for typing online or even messages, since it lags too much the phone.
I plan on keeping a couple of apps like a battery saver, Aviate launcher and occasionally a traffic monitor app like 3g Watchdog.I've been thinking about going back to Gingerbread versions, although new ones seem more enticing with features/apps like Google now.
I'm breaking my question in two parts:
1 - Can a more advanced android version like JB (or maybe KK) help make the system faster and the ram management more efficient? Or should I stick with a rom similar to stock?
2 - What roms do you recommend? Which Kernel? Or should I just face the fact my phone won't be able to comply with my current needs and I should ask Santa for an iPhone?
thanks

Thank you very much.
PS: in the mean time I'm open to more suggestions, just in case.

The rom crashes the settings applet everytime I try to change language to Portuguese.
Can't add widgets with aviate launcher (settings crashes)
otherwise seems alright.

[Q] Smoothest & fastest rom - need some help

Hello guys. I know that there is no "best rom" and I should check them all but this time I can't do it. I want to make my friend's Wildfire S 2012 smoother and faster than it is on stock as much as possible and I won't be able to play with it a lot so I really need your help. I am looking for pretty stable & smooth & new & fast & clear & simple ROM. He would be using it for making calls, messages, photos and undemanding games like tetris. There is no need for USB/WIFI Tethering, ART, themes etc. I was thinking about [ROM][4.4.3][ViPER]WFSY11.0-WEEKLY[V3.0][OTA][FAST] and [CM10.1][V!PER]WFSY10.1[KK][OTA][1.5-KKEgg]. What do you guys think? Or maybe something older?
I would be grateful for seeing your answers.
Best regards and thanks for any help.
