I got myself a HTC Desire, wanted to root it for full access to the device,
I went through many tutorials here, gathered that I should do unrevoked method to root it
however, all of the tutorials directs the link to unrevoked site to download the necessary software,
but non of the download link works, and I can't find an alternative place to get these software
does anyone know a place I can perhaps download a package of all the things that's needed to root HTC Desire with Android 2.2?
thanks
Unforunately the guides here are outdated, you don't need unrevoked anymore
Use revolutionary
All better guides linked here: http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/503471-desire-all-things-root-guide.html
I looked at it briefly, thanks for the direction, i check into it more,
thanks again

Hi,
i'm newbie but first of course I read wiki, guides and others about rooting etc.
I've already applied OTA update on my Desire Z. My question is: am I able to root my device and get new non original ROM's and S-OFF? I can't find a straight answer here about it.
second answer is that i run bootloader on my device and choose "simlock" and push power button and somthing was done, then it prompt for restart which i made. What did I do?
Thanks,
Mat
I assume that 'simlock' option would re-do the network lock if you had used a code to unlock,.... I ASSUME.
Use that wiki you have already gone through to find out how to root etc with gfree. It's all in there. Looks pretty straight forward,.... not that I have had time to do it myself just yet.
As far as I know, it's currently impossible to root the new OTA. You'll have to downgrade to the pre-OTA to get root and you can find the guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905261
Of course, my info might be outdated as I'm a G2 owner and not a DZ owner
EDIT: IT IS POSSIBLE!!!! Just ran across this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=886023

Appologies, as Omar said, Wiki is not up to date. Sorry for leading you up a blind ally. I might have a go at updating the wiki later if someone doesn't beat me to it, and if I can grow bigger balls.... don't want to be shouted at if I do something wrong!!
There's a guide on how to get temp root on 1.72 on the dev forum. You can turn that into perm root using the same commands as with the perm root part of rage.

Hi, been trying to find that thread earlier on for that exe to install to root, s-off, unlock etc. I used search but not having any luck I'll keep looking but if anyone has that link saved it would be great..! Thanks.
It said it can do it for other devices ie. desire S
Hi peeps, just got through a saga of rooting/flashing my Desire HD, so turned my attention to what I thought was the easier task of rooting a Wildfire.
I've installed/uninstalled HTC-Sync , I've installed the hacked USB andriod drivers, I've set the phone up ready in USB root debugging mode etc....
...but when running unrevoked it seems to go through the motions correctly ...but it never completes. The phone just reboots very slowly and the unrevoked app just sits hanging there saying 'its safe to restart if this doesn't work'.
But when I do my little test of running titanium back-up, no root access given :-(
are there any alternative methods to root which don't involve unrevoked. Such as creating a goldcard like with my DHD?
You need to get s-off with revolutionary, take a look at the reference guide(It's sticky). Sry I can't link it coz I'm on my phone
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
You should find everything you need in here. Guides and links to Revolutionary etc.......
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318
...tried the 'revolutionary' (http://revolutionary.io/) appliaction.
It connected to my buzz and said "HBOOT 1.01.0002 not supported at this time"
does this draw anyone close to understanding what wrong?
Hey mate.. I hope these links below help you out because I spent countless hours searching all over the place just to need these 2 links..
Apparently the HBoot you have on ur device needs to be downgraded as that one isn't flashable or somthing.. so check these links out and hope it helps you! I was able to fully debrand my phone with these links
http://androidforums.com/wildfire-all-things-root/387431-s-off-root-flashing-method.html
http://android.modaco.com/topic/305672-creating-a-goldcard/
Downgrade to 1.01.0001
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132028
because u didn't turn the S-OFF. see full instructions from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145035 (this is the link which I followed to do and successfully done)
I Hope I helped.
hey there,
just got a desire yesterday. currently have a rooted hero, so im not exactly a beginner, but im completely stumped on how to root my desire.
its o2 branded with hboot 0.93 on 2.2
cannot use unrevoked, it comes up with a 'failed to unlock nand flash?' error.
i believe this is because it needs to be downgraded first
ive followed the goldcard tut, as well as the downgrade tut
found on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
however, i get a 'main version is older' error when trying to flash the .zip created by the downgrade.
really want to do this, so any help would be appreciated.
http://revolutionary.io/
But read documentary page very carefully before doing anything!
thanks for that link.
i had seen that previously but saw the public beta, and the warnings and didnt think i should mess with it!
looking at the documentation, it says that it supports the desire with hboot 0.93.
is it safe to assume that because my desire has 0.93, that conventional methods wont work, and that only 'revolutionary' will?
revolutionary is absolutely safe, used is MANY times and so have a million others.
instead of rooting, just use revolutionary to S-OFF, then flash recovery during the process (it asks you if you want to), then backup your ROM, do a full wipe and then flash anyone that you want, or flash superuser.zip to root. either way is good
revolutionary worked great, thanks alot it was just what i was after.
will be downloading a custom rom now
just discovered that the earpiece is messed up, so will be needing to replace that
i suppose it gives me a reason to open it up lol
personally I'd send to HTC, that way you know it was done correctly
if the phone was new, i would.
but its used and cant be bothered with the hassle
the part is cheap, and when it comes to things like changing earpieces etc, i find it easy
ok this is my problem i have followed ALL the steps in the tutorial to root my wildfire
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145035
htc sync is NOT installed
i have successfully gained s-off using revolutionary, but when i use unrevoked (3.2 [the provided one] or the latest 3.32) my phone goes through all the stages, reboots and unrevoked says "waiting for root..." and stays just stays like that. my phone doesn't have the super user app nor root access (i tried using a root access required app)
i have followed multiple sites, spent over 8hours trying to do this, with endless web searches with no success.
so is there a way to fix unrevoked or is it possible to get a pre-rooted android 2.2.1 with htc sense for the wildfire
Did you already install Clockworkmod Recovery via Unrevoked when it asked you to? If Yes, you need not follow that guide anymore. Follow this post:

Look at the title

If you have not installed Clockworkmod via Revolutionary while getting S-OFF, then you will need to look at 2 points from the above link
- Clockworkmod Recovery
- Rooting Your Phone

thanks a lot mate, i used the gingerbreak app, since i knew i had already had s-off, and that it looked easier
