HTC One X Consfusing.. - HTC One X

Hi, I'm trying to root my phone but am confused with some things.. When I attempt to obtain my unlock code from HTCDev I get the Error 160. I read this is because one of the newer builds keeps users from unlocking the bootloader through HTCDev (I have build 3.18). I looked around a bit and some of the things I found say I need Super CID to change my CID to 11111111 and then I would be able to get my unlock code from HTCDev. The problem is I need to be S-Off in order to do so and in order to get S-Off I need to have an unlocked bootloader and/or be rooted. I then found a thread with a similar problem to mine and they said to use temp root and then Super CID and another said to use Motochopper. I used Motochopper but it seemed to just be a One-Click Root Method, which did not work. I saw no option to change my CID but the OP in the other thread said he used it and fixed his solution (which again is similar, if not, the same as mine).

Like I said, I get an error when submitting my token, not because i copy and pasted it wrong. I copy it from <<<< Identifier Token Start >>>> to <<<<< Identifier Token End >>>>> but the 3.18 build keeps people from unlocking the bootloader through HTCDev and need to change my CID to 11111111 with SuperCID which requires S-Off which i need to have be rooted/unlocked bootloader which I can't get. But I have found a working temproot and will work on getting S-Off soon to use SuperCID to change my CID to 11111111 . If I can't figure out how to do it then that's fine. I was only interested in this mod for an app which works with the temp root! . As of now I won't be needing the full benefits of a permanent root.

You need to unlock bootloader from htcdev then you will be able to root.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S using xda premium
he has s-off , no need for unlocked bootloader ! just run root from superoneclick found at here ... you'll guide yourself after downloading the file believe me ! It is the easiest rooting tool i ever seen !
Must be some kind of problem if he's s-off and it says locked oow.
Just double check in your bootloader and confirm if it says s-off or s-on.
If your s-off as I am then it should not say anything about locked or unlocked.
It looks like you successfully updated the bootloader [*** LOCKED (OOW) ***] but didn't finish the procedure at htcdev to get it unlocked. But in any case, it should root because you have S-OFF already.
SuperClick Root thing doesnt worl.
And yes and it is s off
have you tried zergrush, too?
Another theory would be, that the locked bootloader "overwrites" the S-OFF behavior somehow. You have 2 choices.
1) flash a hboot 1.08.0000 or whichever you want that is not from htcdev
or
2) finish the htcdev process and get your bootloader unlocked.
Hello i'm the person vinnyt is talking about, that is having the problem with rooting the HTC Wildfire S, it is a marvelc cdma phone from Metro pcs (USA service). I first used HTC Wildfire S - Unlocking Bootloader by Mstechify on youtube and i did this like the 2nd day i had my wildfire s and the first time i had an htc, so i had no idea about htc dev at the time, but anyway i did this method and i followed all the steps until the end when the program tells you to press any button to reboot, what i did was unplugged the phone but i noticed i was not rooted so i went to the the boot loader and noticed it said locked oow and it said s off so i tried almost all the root methods and tried to use htc dev, and htc dev just tells me that its the wrong RUU program so i don't know. Guys please help me all I want to do is temp. root to remove bloatware please help. thanks.

Did you tried out the the HTCDev.com Process.
HTCDEV.COM --> Choose Model --> Update HBOOT --> Now says "Locked OOW"
---> then Get the Token as directed by the HTC DEV.Com --> paste the token in textbox in htcdev.com ---> you got "unlock_token.bn" --> flash that using "fastboot" --> you got as "*** UNLOCKED *** ",
I hope that there is Nothing bother about S ON or Soff., My device is S-ON but Hboot is in "Unlocked" state, I already Flashed out Custom ROMS . Try out that
if you are s-off use simonsimons utility to unlock your bootloader and fastboot flash a custom recovery, then flash the superuser zip for full root

[Q] How to upgrade JB Firmware with a S-Off HOX

Guys,
I'm trying to get my JB flasher tool to work with S-Off devices. (Mine is S-On so I can't test)
Can anyone with a S-off phone that's upgraded the FW let me know the procedure. There seems to be confusion about which commands work with a locked bootloader and S-off so don't speculate, only respond if you know it works.
Specific question:
If you have a CID of 11111111 does it need changing to a compatible CID from the androidinfo.txt? If so, how? Does the bootloader need to be unlocked?
Can the bootloader be unlocked without htcdev code? If yes, how?
Can all fastboot commands be run with S-off but a locked bootloader?
Thanks
DO NOT UNLOCK YOUR BOOTLOADER!!!!
You will have to add the Super CID to the android-info.txt before flashing but other than that it's the same process as S-ON users

As easy as that. Thanks:good:
PS So S-off will ignore the broken signature?
Also, if someone has already unlocked their bootloader (due to not realising the power of S-Off ), I assume it'll need to be relocked before installing the firmware.zip?
PS Can boot.img be flashed via fastboot if its locked on a S-off phone?
Also, can I replace the recovery.img with CWM in the zip, or even just remove it. Same goes for the boot.img
If you're S-OFF you basically have the same rights as someone with an unlocked bootloader plus more so you can flash CWM/boot etc. through fastboot without unlocking the bootloader. As you said, S-OFF ignores the signature. So long as it's a proper update.zip it should flash without issues (I should qualify this by saying I'm basing this on my HTC Sensation and what I could/couldn't do with S-OFF. If I had an S-OFF One X I could give you a 100% answer)

Unlocking DHD

Hi folks,
I am using the XTC clip to unlock and debrand my DHD. After being stuck at the Jumping to Diag message, I read that it wont work as the Hboot version is no longer compatiable with XTC clip. I have also read about the Hack Tool and knowing my skills I am zero at it.
Please can you suggest how I can downgrade the hboot version only to allow me to use the clip.
Thanks in advance
ok guys,
just wanted to updated after trolling through so many pages and threads, I was able to use the AAHK tool to downgrade the hboot successfully, for some reason it did S-OFF the device. So i Tried the XTC clip again and it let me set the device to S-OFF and also unlock it. It has set the CID to to 1111111 which I cant change to get the OTA (HTC_001) keep getting the .... "INFO [ERR] Command Error !" message..
any idea?

You need to read better before messing your device. The hack, if successful, gives you S-OFF and supercid. Trying to get it again will get you stuck.
That is in the effen manual.

Java Card also unlocks the bootloader in addition to making it S-OFF?
I figured being S-Off you would have to SuperCid to fool HTCDev or do it through ADB like on the DNA/M7 to unlock.....Scotty had threads on that.
Good to know the Java card takes care of that, too!

I don't believe their is any reason to use HTCDev.com once you are already S-OFF - however, don't quote me on this.
The reason that VZW doesn't have S-OFF (yet) on the M9, and the rest of the carriers do, is because HTCDev.com works on the other carriers. *I believe* It is part of the the SunShine process for the other M9 carriers to 1st root the phone/unlock bootloader through HTCDev.com then use SunShine to S-OFF the device and fully unlock everything.
The Java Card however, will give you S-OFF, without the need of HTCDev.com - fully unlocking the device.
Anyone feel free to correct me on anything I said here. S-OFF/Security is not my area of expertise

Your bootloader can still be locked if you're S-OFF....just that being S-OFF allows you to unlock it in a few ways...back on other phones that was using super cid to fool htc dev that you aren't a Verizon phone or using adb commands...ie my reference to Scotty's threads. That's how I did my DNA (supercid) and I think my M8 (adb) after getting S-OFF.
Firewater and moonshine only did S-OFF if I remember and now sunshine does both for you (S-OFF and unlock) but having one is not necessarily dispositive or dependent on the other (along with root). Granted these three things usually go hand in hand...but you can have just root, or just an unlocked boot loader, or just S-OFF and not the other two. However, S-OFF makes it infinitely easier to get the other two since you have complete control over your phone...ie if you handed me an HTC phone and said I can only have one of the three...I'd choose S-OFF because then I could get the other two much easier than it is for me just having root and figuring how to get S-OFF without jcase and beaups lol

I personally would think that everyone would choose S-OFF over root (on an HTC device)... but that is me. ya never know.
As for Java Clip, this does only do S-OFF, then you must run the echo adb cmd to unlock bootloader, as you mentioned.
The S-OFF methods provided by SunShine, and previous methods such as firewater however, my understanding they do this command in their tool.
Again, not my area of expertise, however. Certainly not trying to argue or anything.

It doesn't but once s-off you can simply unlock the bootloader using an ADB command.
When I use a card to s-off a device I always flash the latest TWRP... and then run the adb command to unlock the BL and while i'm there I flash the supersubeta.zip
let the flood gates open
Head over to the regular HTC One M9 section after you achieved s-off. Here is the thread for unlocking your bootloader without HTC dev via adb

Un Lock & ReRoot Verizon HTC One M8

So I thought I had to return my HTC one for repair, or replacement and I RELOCKED the bootloader an UNRooted it. I can find a hundred different threads (mostly out of date) with instructions.
Originally I reloaded original Verizon firmware and watched the phone update little by little up to 5.01.
Does anyone know how to unlock and re root my phone? The last thing I thought of was trying to reload the original KitKat back on the phone if that is even possible???
TIA

I don't have the VZN version, but my understanding, sunshine gives you the ability to unlock the bootloader on VZN after s-off, so I'd suggest loading the sunshine app, and seeing if it give you that option (unlock bootloader)
Sunshine normally won't charge you $ to s-off again, once its been s-off'ed by sunshine before. So I'm guessing the same holds true (no $ to unlock the bootloader) is you already used it to s-off.

In theory, I believe YES you can downgrade since you are s-off. But i"m not sure that would help. It would help you root, but I don't know if it would help you unlock the bootloader.
If you are S-off, don't you only need a root shell to dd the right data to unlock the bootloader? If so, then perhaps boot (vs flash) TWRP and use an adb shell to unlock the bootloader?

Not too familiar with that. I can only guess that is what sunshine does ("behind the scenes") after s-off. But if there is a "manual" way to do it, and it works, than that is great!

unfortunately, i didnt bother putting VZW__001 CID in there, so you're going to temporarily need to change CID
Code:
fastboot oem writecid 11111111[I] <- eight ones[/I]
fastboot reboot-bootloader
then you can proceed with the above, and once done you can change your cid back
