[Q] kernels & cyanogenmod 11? - Galaxy S 4 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay, so i know this is probably a newbie question but is their any kernels out there tat can run on s4 mini i9195 with cyanogenmod 11 because everyone i've tried have ended up bricking my phone which i then had to recover from and unroot starting fresh so is their any recommendations on good battery life and fast charging?
Thanks

Anyone?

Do you want to install a different kernel compatible with cyanogenmod 11 because you already have cyanogenmod 11 installed in you smartphone and you're having battery problems with it? Or do you want to install a different kernel AND cyanogenmod 11 in your phone?

I'm having the same problem. After installing the CM11, I did the installation of the kernel f4ktion. The phone rebooted and after the S4 Mini logo, the screen goes black but hear the sounds, it's like running but not demonstrate anything on the screen.
My device: S4 Mini duo I9192
CM version: 11-20140711-Unofficial-serranodsdd
I9192UBUBMK4
Kernel: 3.4.0-cyanogenmod ....
*****Edit*************
Never mind it, I was with a version of CM11 outdated.

Why installing another kernel anyway? Is there any significant advantage?

As i said before since installing cyanogenmod11 my battery has been getting drained so fast the only two things i ever have running are wi-fi and mobile data, i even have a deep sleep app so when my screen is turned off it turns off all the connections, yeah it disables push notifications but it's the only way i can get a half decent battery life for over 3 hours. So i was just looking for some kernels compatible with cyanogenmod11 with the s4 mini i9195.
Thanks

I already have cyanogenmod 11, I also referred to the f4ktion 1.1.3 custom kernel but that just caused my device to run so slow and buggy, so i flashed a stock rom to get it back to the original state and then flashed cwm to install cyanogenmod 11 again, now i am back at square 1 with a poor battery life. Why can't their be a phone with the performance of a high quality samsung but the battery life of an old nokia.

best rom cm9 / cm10 / cm11? battery friendly?

Hi guys
I have this galaxy w which I had the stock rom with gingerbread.
I was searching for a custom rom for the phone and saw that there were cm9 cm10 and cm11.
I installed the new cm11 by arco68 but I'm having problems with the battery with greenify already installed.
During the night when I was asleep in 3 hours used 10% of my battery.
I'm new in roms and android development, so can anyone help me and tell me the differences between each cm version?
Any version is more lighter with the battery?
What can I do improve the battery use?
Thanks in advance

Smack that Thanks button if I helped!
XDAing from a N7105 powered by Illusion ROM.

P.S. Time for school, not much time for XDA
for me its cm9 or cm11
For me now the best battery saving ROM + kernel is CM 9 and hurtsky's kernel, it is just awesome, if you need battery then this is the right combination for you
CyanogenMod 9 + Hurtsky's Kernel.

btw, currently using "CM09 (EOL final) + Hurtsky's Kernel REV10" but want to know if I would have better options for extended battery performance.

Hi, I am new to installing ROM, I have study about 3 days and decided to apply darkCM11 with khan kernel, as you mentioned,
I installed CM11 and it worked, but The device was warm and battery drained fast, I installed it again with following tuterials and format sdcard0 this time, it get better but the main problem is to install/flash another kernel or update like khan kernel or philz touch, they are failed with status 7 ,
I tried to removed assert line from updater_script but it didn't work, It seems the os is now heavier than these works and I am confused right now,
please help me :
1- what to do first, should I install CM11 from scratch ?
2- for istalling khan kernel should I install Philz touch? and if so, what I should to do with the status 7 problem
I have installed CMR 6.0.4.5 and it works,

[Q] why my battery drains so fast??

hey,
listen, i've installed few roms in the last 2 weeks, flashed 2 recoveries version,
this is the roms:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588495
and the second which im using now:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2214042
from some reason, I prefer the CM 10.1, he works faster, more over, the CM 11 is not stable as CM 10.1 because it's newer,
When I was on stock rom my battery performance was much better,
My battery in 100% finished totaly after one phonecall or even taking picture with flash light on.
I buoght new battery from ebay, it's shipping right now to me and I hope it will fix the problem.
I have some questions:
1. which rom is better right now? (cm10.1 or cm11)
2. why the battery drains so fast? is that overclocked roms?
3. Do I have to download stock rom for my country? why is that matter? Im from israel and I think that in the stock rom there are apps of the Cellular operator (cellcom) and i hate that, i want clean stock android, I dont want these dirty apps and heavy widgets.
4. which rom is best for the battery performance?
thanks a lot!

I recently used:
Mokee OS 04/11 + KhaN Kernel 2.0 = 100% stable
Paranoid Android 4.3 BETA1 + KhaN Kernel = Just installed a day ago, but seems stable and the fastest KitKat rom yet.
Keep in mind to configure kernel settings for better performance and battery life and disable pocket detection / WLAN notification / auto sync / IMPORTANT: silly google background services using "disable service".
IMO i prefer CM 10.1 because its very fast, and stable, i think Kitkat is not ready yet !!
However im using a 2450 mah battery on CM 10.1 and geting good battery lifee, but if u use the stock batery with 1500 mah, CM 10.1 wont last much , so u need to go with stock or Kitkat
What's the point about KitKat is not ready yet? Performance is better than Jellybean as far as I tried nearly every rom available

Samsung Galaxy Note II in 2015/2016

Hello Note II owners,
I'm starting this thread about our beloved phone just to see what you people like to use most: what ROMs you think are the best and why, what Android version suits Note II the best, etc.
So please answer the following questions in their order:
1. What Android version works better?
2. What ROM do you like the most?
3. Do you think the developers of our phone are doing a good job?
4. Do you think Android 6.0 will work well on this phone?
5. Will Note II be still a good device for daily use in 2016 and after?
6. Do you miss S Pen special functions in custom ROMs?
Thanks for answering!
I really wanna know what it's best for this phone
1. 5.1.1 for me.
2. I like CM the most. Theme engine, lollipop, etc did it for me. I love lollipop and would never want to go back.
3. Developers have done a great job helping us out with our old devices including the Note 2.
4. It's questionable whether they'll support giving us 6.0 support, and/or if it will be stable.
5. For now, yes. Later, maybe not. I think an upgrade is long overdue if you still have a Note 2.
6. I have SPen features with SPenCommand. It's awesome.
1&2
CM11 nightly (official) works the best. More stable than stock 4.4.2
4
We will get the unofficial CM13 (Android 6.0)... And it will be working like most custom roms on xda (bugs bugs bugs)
5
If the official CM11 will get the latest security patches, then yes, it its very good device for daily use.
6
No at all.

That's weird. Before I upgraded to my experimental CM12.1 port, CM11 crashed all the time. Now, I've probably only crashed once in my time of using 12. There are app bugs but I don't think that has to do with CM. Only problem is the "can't connect to camera" issue which is a common problem anyway with CM12 and 11 alike.

Using the cm-11-20150813-NIGHTLY and beside one freeze of the camera app, everything is totally fine.
Not even one "crash" or reboot.
But if the latest stagefright patches will be not merged into CM11 i will look for a unofficial CM 12.1 port for the n7100 - for me, security matters.

Alarmingly horrible, to be honest. I'm going to get a ZeroLemon soon enough.
edit: not just lollipop from what I can remember, it's been pretty bad lately in general
I couldn't find any CM based ROM with Android 5.0+ which didn't give me any random reboots. The problem is the CM Kernel that makes some chip to fail and forces the phone to reboot. First I thought it was my insanse chip but someone with a sane one confirmed the problem too.
So, to solve the random reboots we are forced at this moment to flash Agni and I believe that makes the phone a little bit laggy after a while.
CM11 is the most stable now but has Video Tearing and that bugs me a lot. I used the latest nightly build from the official CyanogenMod site.
My Note 5 just arrived today and I think I liked my Note II more back in 2013, lol. But it's faster than my father's S6.
Maybe an AOSP by team Haxynox

[Q] Recommendation for the most stable S4 Mini ROM

Hello,
My GF's S4 Mini is 2 years old, not a single hard reset, with unrooted stock ROM.
She is happy with performance and with phone in general but battery is bust, it barely holds for 10 hours with light to medium use.
She uses her phone for WhatsApp, Messenger and occasionally taking some photos.
I am not sure though which version does she have. I can find out that later today but meanwhile I would be grateful for your advice.
It doesn't have to be the newest ROM version, it has to be reliable, with good battery and preferably with stock camera app.
Thank you!
There is no perfect rom. Keep the rom she is using. Change the battery , after 2 years is busted as u said
It could also be old problem that battery was draining fast even with 3g/wifi/gps OFF. That`s a motherboard problem that can be fixed by changing motherboard or with a custom kernel that have the fix implemented. Stupid thing is, after u install a custom kernel, u need to root phone and disable Knox apps or they will bother u. Search what version of S4 mini she have, what rom she have and start from there to search. I have for example some kernels with fixes for that problem, but first read on forums.
The above being said and valid...
... I find that this ROM: Resurrection-Remix-LP-v5.5.8-20151026-serranodsdd
works pretty well for me. It is stable enough. You would have to root and stuff but its worth a try.

+1. RR LP 5.5.8 is very stable and battery friendly and also Blisspop 4.0.3 last two versions are good enough. BUT, in these 2 fantastic roms i have found a major bug (at least for me) that during incoming calls most of the times my contacts dont show up their names (only numbers) or sometimes very lately. I asked the devs about the problem but did not get any reply. So m back now to PAC rom KK 4.4.4, i used it for around 4 months continuously before i tried lollipop roms. Stable, good battery(05/01/2015 version) and hell lot of features.
N.B: The above is based on my experience only. It may very from person to person. And also it does not imply that other roms are worse or better, because i have not tried all of them.
What I have observed is temperature and the kernel have big impacts on battery drain. Stock 4.4. drains the battery much slower than 4.2., and the Cyanogenmod kernels also use up less juice than the stock roms.
the same
I have same issue. 2 or more years i9195 with stock 4.4.2 android. Battery drain is about 1%/hour at idle (sleep). When using it raises to 2-5%/hour. I want any other ROM or kernel that drains less battery. Please help
My phone has almost two years. Battery remains excellent. No tricks, such as calibration, etc.
In my experience the best ROM Stock based is this http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...t/gt-i9192-galaxy-s4-mini-duos-4-4-2-t2832673 .
I never installed another kernel, etc. in its use. I tried several ROMS CM based but always came back to this rom for stability, reliability, battery.
But lately I have been interested in Android M.
And I was already giving up again when I decided to use CM13 (feb / 21) by K2wl without GAPPS (Open GAPPS) or Custom Kernel.
My intention is to test CM13 in its purest possible code.
So far it has been amazing. No call issues, great battery (as in SilviuMik ROM). etc
I'm curious. Will this time be able to use a ROM CM based for more than two weeks without problems with Call and battery? If this happens it will be worth testing other GAPPS.

I used the official CM12.1 nightlies (& kernal) for about a year on my I9195, in the first few months I did get almost weekly random restarts, as you might expect on a nightly, but towards year end almost none. Then I installed the last Snapshot YOG9 (or whatever) and didn't get a single reboot in months.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...i9190-i9195-cyanogenmod-12-1-s4-mini-t3100159
Currently I'm on an unofficial version of same CM12.1 that has latest monthly security updates patched (which will be built until a stable release of CM13 is out) as the official CM12.1 development has stopped due to CM13. I've not had a single crash or reboot on this CM12.1 ROM, so that's about 6mths with no problems all together.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...i9190-i9195-cyanogenmod-12-1-nightly-t3300836
My wife is on CM12.1 (NightOwl) too on her old Note N7000, she has not had a single problem in the 2mths since I installed it. So long story short I'd say almost any version of CM12.1 is now very stable (provided you clear caches etc when installing and don't load dodgy apps )

I have been using cm13 nightlies ever since it came out. Almost updated every new package. Since then i had to revert it twice. For me so far it's stable. Using it with gapps pico. But do nog use any extended cm13 roms like bliss or rr, as they are highly unstable, lagy and full of buggs.
Have a nice day to all. I have an i9192 (GT-I9192ZKAAFR, S4 mini DUOS) with the latest original I9192XXUBNB1 ROM and the CSC is I9192OJVBNB1 (AFR / Kenya / AE). I have to use this phone again and it is horrible. Often becomes hot and unresponsive. Sometimes just simply shutdown itself or reboot. That is why I moved to another phone but that is in service now. Otherwise this is an amazing little device. I decided that it is time to take steps towards to a more stable ROM. Phone has Knox and it is still 0x0. Manufactured in 2013 and bought in 2014 so support has definitely gone. Therefore I am not really keen on Knox status but would be great to keep 0x0.
I am a Hungarian user and I would like to use Hungarian language on the phone. I see some ROM recommendation here. Is that true for Hungarian language as well? What about different region, modem or so? Are these ROMs working on my device? Is it possible to revert my phone to any factory version? I am not familiar with flashing ROM on this phone but read some tutorials and more or less trained.
Hi,
I'm on Exodus (+ Gapps pico) & very happy by the quality of this rom. (I haven't tried many other roms though)

Stable ROMS?

I'm currently using an S3 as a daily since a friend of mine generously donated his so I can install ROMS.
I'm having heating and performance issues, and I can't find the right ROM to install to this device.
I'm currently using LineageOS (7.1.2) and it's not stable at all. There's too much bugs and lag.
Anyone got cool 7.1.2 stable ROMS that I can install on this device?
I would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

That's not what I meant.. The only reason why I'm using a custom ROM is because the apps I use don't support the stock ROM.

Make sure you turn off Adaptive display and LiveDisplay. This should give your phone a massive speed boost as it did for mine. It`s the first thing I do whenever I flash Lineage OS on any device.
However many Galaxy S3 T-999 has been plagued by another problem for some months. Whenever I flashed any custom ROM (I have tried CM 13, CM 14/Linage OS, Mokee), The phone`s goes on mute mode. It makes no sound whatsoever. But it works fine on stock 4.3 but like you said many apps don`t support it anymore.
