[Q] HTC Wildfire S stuck on BOOT LOOP - HTC Wildfire S

Guys I need help, I have a rooted wildfire S and I flashed a few roms to check out but then when I used data2sd script on EQDKP 5.0 ROM for first time it started giving me this problem cuz every time I restart my phone except for the first restart suddenly after installing ROM) it get's into a boot loop between beats audio and HTC screen and keeps that up I tried everything I tryed using link2sd and disabled relink at boot options I changed roms but now pretty much all roms are doing the same problem except only LEWA ROM that works fine but I got tired of using nd want a sense ROM my kernel right now is 2.6.35.10 cake-gb-3.0-v1.2 at first I thought it was the data scripts but now I'm not using any data2sd kinda script and yet it has the same problem also if I pull out my battery during the loop and put it into recovery and reflash the ROM without any wipes then it starts working again until next boot :/ I also thought it might be some background processing going on so I let it run for like 6 hrs but no avail please help btw my phone is S-ON but bootloader is unlocked by HTC DEV site. PS. This is my first experience with an HTC.

Which recovery are you using? And confirm your model (GSM/CDMA).
Btw, have you wiped data, cache and system before flashing a new rom?
Try out the marvellous rom and a different kernel

Bootloop can happen due to many reasons...wrong kernel, wrong gapps, rom is overclocked to name a few. Some roms are overclocked and this causes problems in some sets.
Try replacing the kernel files manually or flash a recommended kernel that is NOT overclocked.
I'm assuming you did the partitions as required(3 different partitions i think).

Try the wildfire s toolkit to flash the kernel and use minitool partition software to make the partitions as mentioned in the rom page

[Q] S-Off/Rooting/ROM Questions for Virgin Mobile HTC Wildfire S

Hi,
I recently purchased the HTC Wildfire S from Virgin Mobile and would like to root it. After reading some great tutorials put out by you guys, I'm fairly confident I can successfully root my device. How ever I have a few concerns:
1. Is my device the HTC marvel, marvelc, or marvelct?
2. Are there custom ROMs for my device?
3. Can I remove the bloatware/re-partition the internal memory without a new ROM?
Thanks ahead of time to those that help, and sorry for taking up your time with n00bie questions
EDIT: Also do I need to do anything to my bootloader just to root? My understanding is that its only necessary for changing ROMs.
Marvelc or a510c, there are custom roms and modified roms and roms that are being built like cm7 for the marvelc, check out the development forum and see whats crackin
HTC Wildfire S (VM) "s-off" "rooted" Stock Rom
Thanks I will take a look over there. When I started looking I saw a lot of people saying there are only ROMs for the marvel
No theres ssrom, simonstock rom that rom is sweet! Check it out
HTC Wildfire S (VM) "s-off" "rooted" Stock Rom
Can I get links to these? I think I found the SSROM already but glanced over it. I will revisit that one. As of now SS may be the only ROM I have found for the marvelc.
Thanks again guys
Just wait a little bit, some are being built
HTC Wildfire S (VM) "s-off" "rooted" Stock Rom
I have the HTC Wildfire S from VM, rooted, CWM 5.0.2.6, S-off, and when i try to install any custom rom, it will install fine then ill boot it up and it will be at different points during the bootup process animation screen where it will freeze and restart over and over. Sometimes it will get to the lockscreen and freeze there. The only rom that hasnt done that so far is the CM7 alpha. I have tried to install: .sense, jmz, and team marvelUS rom for the marvelc, and still not able to do anything. Has anyone encountered this problem and fixed it, anyone can give me anything extra to try? i have wiped data/factory reset, wiped cache/dalvik, and battery stats, also tried not wiping any of those. The custom stock rom still works fine if i install it.

Did u make a partition before trying jmz and teammarvelusc? I haven't tried .sense yet but I know that at least on jmz u need at least a 512mb partition or u may encounter some problems. Also, what hboot do u have? U could also try formatting /boot to see if that helps. Could also be too high of a CPU oc. Cm7 alpha is set at 600mhz, jmz and teamusc have their kernels oc'd to 806 by default if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks for your quick reply! I did try the partition of 512mb and just in case a swap of something too haha. My hboot version is 1.06. And on the processor speed that makes sense. Is there a way to change that in the rom before I load it or do I have to luckily catch my phone before it freezes?
There may be a flashable stock kernel out there for marvelc, if anyone would know it would be Simon or insink. There should be one around this forum somewhere I would think.
You could also try m1ndh4xr8's kernel, its oc by default but I've had good luck with it.

Well I did install that kernel and it actually worked with stock rom, but my wifi now says error haha any ideas. Btw thanks for the clues on the kernel I may just use that one with other roms and see if that works. But any clues on the wifi?

Or check out ROM Manager for flawless ROMs
Well problem with jmz is that it keeps my phone on a reboot loop. And rom manager I tried but it never worked for me on any of my phones for installing roms haha but I did download the rom and installed on cwm.

does anyone know where too get the offical img files for virgin mobile usa. like kernel, recovery, system and so on.
No I couldn't find them from VM I found the stock rom on the forum I believe but don't remember where. I still got it do u need it? The rom has the stock kernel in it obviously lol

Ya i remember encountering that problem back when there wasn't really any support for marvelc. I attached the 2 kernels i have on my sdcard that i know for sure work completely with no errors. Copy them to your sdcard, then the first thing i would try is boot into cwm, wipe cache and dalvik cache. then flash the attached m2ndh4x8r kernel, as thats the one i currently use. See if that fixes your wifi problem. If it doesn't, then do the same for the attached jmz kernel. If neither of those are fixing the wifi issue, then u will need to install a different rom. When i first bought my phone and was on stock, the wifi didn't even work at all, till i rooted and went custom.

[Q] Have big problems of bootloops please Help !

Hy,
I am rooted, and i had fun trying many roms, kernels, lauchers.
Of course i knew how to erase cache, how and when do a ful wipe etc....
But Till 2 days i have big problems with cpu blocked at 1200 mhz or bootloops
I think i have all tried : full wipe, erase cache kernels, changing roms, changing kernels and bases (1.29... 2.05....)
But only a rom (hopefully recovered in clockword) allows me to make my device work...
Edit : I just tried with stocks kernels 1.29..... and also 2.05 (new base) : BOOTLOOPS
I tried with different roms that always worked : insertcoin 6.45, 7.20 7.30 : BOOTLOOPS
Maybe the only commun setting i have done is to restore some Titanium backups ....Like i used always to do before.....
Maybe a bug in my last backup/restore should explain all this problems ....
It seems like if my past errors are still stocked in some place of my phone....
Have you a suggestion ?
For info i use insertcoins roms till the beginning, with stock kernels or faux kernels....
To make simple i d like to réinstall insertcoin 7.20 or 7.30, no matter with the kernel i only want it works caus ei am a bit afraid !

Goes like this
1 core = 1.5
2 cores = 1.4
4 cores = 1.2
Try flash stock recovery and boot image then running the RUU. can't find links atm rather not on my phone

You mean flashing the original stock rom i had stocked in recovery (before unroot and playing with custom roms ) ? or you mean to flash an original stock rom.zip that i should find somewhere in the forum ?
Then flash the stock boot.img right ?
Then lauching the rom ?

Why can't you search??? RUU is a ROM Update Utility. it restores your phone to stock , the way it came. Simply download the latest corresponding ruu, lock ur bootloader, and run the ruu
I was searching on google ! In fact so much time ago i have unrooted my phone, installed the bootloader.... I had forgotten what was exactly the RUU because i never tried to do anything whith that.
I was trying and trying custom roms, kernels, launchers, but not ruu, so excuse me !
I think, i cross my fingers, that maybe all my problems come from a restore from my titanium backups ....
Because till i dont reinstall my settings my phone seems to function correctly...

[Q] Incredible 2 Bootloop and ROM Problems

Hey Guys Thank You For Taking A Look At My Thread.Lets Cut To The Chase.I Have A HUGE PROBLEM with my Replacement Incredible 2.I Rooted my phone with Tacoroot, and everything was fine.Flashed Condemed CM7.2 and started realizing i didn't like it as much,so i made a BACKUP just in case i wanted to return to the CM goodness.Went to TSMTrinity's Sense 2.1 Version 4.5 S,and here's where the problem started happening. After I set up everything on my Sense 2.1 ROM,i backed it up,the screen would get to the boot animation, get past the boot animation,id see my lock screen for 1 SECOND,and then it would start the bootup again.seeing as this was a problem,i WIPED All Cache and Factory Reset/Wipe Data on My Revolutionary Recovery. Then,I Restored the 2.1 Backup that i created and everything was fine again. Then again,i decided to Flash Mikrunny's Sense 3.5 ROM,which after i set up,worked fine,UNTIL YESTERDAY.I was driving in my car yesterday, listening to music on The STOCK HTC Music app on Sense 3.5,and the phone rebooted on its own.And it would not stop until i took the battery out.I got home, charged the battery for a bit,(shut down that is),then headed to recovery.I took out the SD card and rebooted the phone, but no luck.tried this rebooting process for an hour, until i decided to wipe cache and factory reset to my 2.1 ROM BACKUP.it works, but i just wanna know,am i doing something noobingly wrong when backing up and restoring roms? Also,i use Revolutionary's Backup,or I think its called Nandroid,to do backups and restores, and ROM MANAGER to edit their names and delete them. Also,an added side to his problem, when i boot to the Hboot screen, when it loads, for a few of the items it says, missing or wrong image.could that be the problem?? THANK YOU SO MUCH WHO REPLIES AND HELPS.:crying:

What OP wrote applies to me as well. I am looking for something better than aerovan's CM9 (which has been my DD), and thought I would give Viper a try. Without fail, bootlooping (which I could have guessed since I did tacoroot and this seems to be an issue with sense based roms).
That said, I tried steps 1 through 4 and the bootlooping stopped in Viper - it goes through startup and just shuts down before leaving the boot screen. One strange thing that I noticed is that the ICS Firmware/radio with Viper (which I loaded in CWM), wouldn't load in 4ext. Maybe I'll give paranoid a go if I can't resolve this bootlooping issue in Viper! I hope OP has better luck.

I'm not as knowledgeable as Chilly, but a thought did occur to me. if the cm9 rom included a kernel on the flash and then you went to a sense based rom that didn't include a kernel that could cause a problem. I believe that I read that cm using a kernel that is asop based while sense roms use a different based kernel. You may check to see what kernel you have and then check for the recomended kernel for that rom and flash that kernel. don't forget to wipe.

All of the roms come with a kernel for our phone, but certainly, don't flash a sense kernel with aosp or vice versa after rom flash. Chilly is right. Flashing a newer radio should fix the problem and the radio is flashed with a PG32IMG.zip in the bootloader, not in the recovery.

Good call. When chilly said you don't flash kernels in recovery I hit my head. I flashed the radio, but now my challenge is getting back into recovery since I renamed the file and bootloader always finds it and wants to reboot or I load CM9 which stays on flash screen. I'll figure something out, maybe with adb. Thanks.
Power down, pop the sd out, boot to recovery, rename file, profit.

i made a stupid mistake of flashing radio in recovery, in fact the radio is for Samsung at&t and now my phone vibrates it doesnt show htc quietly brilliant, only vibrates and orange light with black screen untill i pull out the battery... i was able to return to stuck and it can only boot if its connected to power, it doesn't read sd card while android is booted and in recovery to, only in bootloader it reads sd... error in mounting if i try to... i flashed RUU.exe 2.3.3 and 2 other RUUs for my droid inc 2 but it keeps vibrating... please help me!!! thanks
I made the same mistake when i first gained s-off for my dinc2. the thing with the venom rom tho is if you ever want to go back to aosp ull need to gets chill's anti-venom zip and flash it through recovery because doing a normal wipe wont do the trick. also a helpful trick that worked for me with roms if i ever start getting boot loops i go into recovery from the bootloader menu and i wipe the dalvik cache under advanced and then wipe the chache under mounts and storage and it always works like a charm for me. but ive also learned that you have to be careful which kernel you flash with the rom of your choice because not only will it cause lags if you happen to get past the boot animation to the main screen but in some cases it can cause breaks in your framework like your wifi data etc. im not an expert tho those are just suggestions that im familiar with because theyve already happened to me before. hope this helps in any way.

Please help. Think I have bricked it!

So, I was relocking my HOX in order to get the OTA JB update from carrier (H3G) in order to use the new Viper ROM.
All went well and managed this. Got re rotted and installed CWM ans Super SU.
However, I read that before installing the JB Viper ROM it was important to do a full wipe. Using CWM i did this. Specifically I did the wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache and format system.
Now my phone is stuck on the white HTC screen. Please help.
Thanks
You formatted system, which basically wiped the rom. Reflash and don't format system.

And don't forget to flash the boot.img file !
Thanks for the quick response and apologies for the basic and wrongly termed questions. Just panicking a little.
How do i get the ROM and boot.img on to the fone? Because it sticks at the white screen the pc doesn't seem to detect it.
Last time i used a stock RUU and followed that process. Will i be able to flash the new Viper ROM instead?
thanks
The boot.img is supposed to be flashed from the PC. To get the Rom into the phone you need to go back to clockworkmod, go into mounts and storage and press the mount usb thing
Edit - to flash the boot.img find a thread about fastboot. Don't worry you'll get there
To get the ROM on the phone boot into cwm and GOTO mounts & storage
Then mount USB storage
It should now be detected as a drive on your PC and you can copy the ROM back over

Got it resolved. I had used the tweaked kernel and assumed that this was not standard, so when asked about which kernel i was using i said it wasn't the viper one.
So i went back to basics and used the kernel that came with the ROM zip and just flashed both. Working fine now. The only question is whether I could have used the tweaked kernel and answered yes to using the viper version?
Thanks for your help. Felt like I have learned a fair bit in the last 12 hours though!
Well if you flashed a different custom kernel you can answer that with the question so it won't load the stock modules but backs up the custom modules from the custom kernel. This way it won't mess up functionality.
When you use a boot.img without it proper modules it can mess up those things you experienced. Hope i make my self clear

[Q] How to choose a ROM

I just got my replacement HTC One V CDMA unlocked and rooted. I want to overclock and understand I need a custom ROM to do so. My first HTC One V I bricked trying to flash rhythmicrom. I unlocked, rooted, backed up using TWM. Each time I tried to flash the new ROM it would get stuck on the HTC screen with the red writing talking about developmental purposes, etc. Each time it would hang on that screen I would simply do a recovery to the back up file and everything would go back to normal. The last time I tried to flash it hung up, and when I tried to go back it would not go back. I am not sure why Rhythmicrom would not work. Is there another one I should try? Does it matter if my HTC one V is a newer version, etc? I just need a basic ROM with the ability to overclock. MMS is a necessity and the camera would be nice. Thanks for any help you can give me.
Did you make sure to flash the appropriate kernel via fastboot aftter flashing the ROM, because if not that could be the cause of your phone failing to boot. As for ROM's, well I guess that depends on whether you have a PrimoU or a PrimoC, I personally use SHPONGLE for the PrimoU, but I can't comment on the PrimoC as I do not own one

Thank you for the reply. Yes I used the kernel (boot.img) that was included with the rythmicrom rom. I have a PrimoC. I was reading and see that my problem might be caused due to maybe having a newer version of the phone and the hboot or radio might be different?

Hey, so some kernels support the newer radio and some do not. If you are on the newer radio: Baseband version 1.00.00.0928 (check in about phone in settings) then you have to use a kernel that supports the OTA, such as for sense use the FOTA kernel posted under the cdma development thread, for android 4.1 use the kernel I made that can be found in the slim bean rom thread by curtis, and for 4.2 rythmic rom's kernel should work just fine. If not, try the codefirex kernel from simon's rom (original dev. thread) but you'll lose functionality of the camera as it is an ion kernel.
I hope this helps, quote me in the reply if you have more questions, otherwise I may forget to check back here.
why u no flash kernel omg! just read the trouble shooting section

Thank you very much for you help. I checked my radio and it is 1.00.00.0928. Is this the reason why the rythmicrom kernel would not work? So you recommend using the FOTA kernel with which ROM? Sorry for the dumb questions. I tried my best to read everything I could before asking for help. I just don't want to brick my replacement phone. I am not sue they will be as understanding as they were the first time.

well it shouldn't have been the reason because if you type "fastboot flash boot boot.img" in command line for the kernel you want to flash then it should flash correctly and rythmic rom's kernel has supported new radio since the beginning pretty much. Unless you have a really old version or something. The FOTA kernel is for sense roms or cm9 (which is based on android 4.0 ics). I really like and very much recommend MyOneV rom that curiousnoob has ported under the cdma dev. thread. It's fast, smooth, and has the least amount of lag compared to any other sense rom that I've tried. It's my daily and go-to rom!
You shouldn't brick your phone as long as you fastboot flash the correct kernel (for primoc/cdma), even if you end up in a bootloop you can hold power button and get back to bootloader to flash a new rom or restore a backup

Thanks for the information. Is it necessary to wipe the sd card before installing the new ROM? This is how I bricked my last one. I read somewhere that I needed to do a full wipe including the sd card. The sd card is where my recovery was and when I wiped it I didn't have anything to recover to. I tried RUU and that did not work.
So I think I might do this kernel [KERNEL][VM/PRIMOC][ICS:Sense] FOTA-Compatible Sick Kernel
With this ROM: myOneV 9.5+CDMA
Does this look ok?

It isn't necessary to wipe sd card, although if you get any weird bugs that no one else has reported (read threads) then yeah, I'd wipe sd card. In fact, I do actually wipe everything (except sd-ext) from twrp 2.6.1. But before I wipe I mount usb to my computer and copy over the twrp folder with my backup and any pictures I wanna save. Then, wipe everything including sd card (although not necessary I like to do it) and then mount usb again and copy the files I need (rom.zip and twrp folder). But to do a full wipe technically it's just wiping data, cache, dalvik cache, and system.
RUU will not work if you are on the newer hboot version (forgot the number but it's around here which is new vs old).
that combination works for me (I'm on new hboot and radio) so should work fine! btw that's the rom and kernel I mentioned earlier idk if you caught that or not

Cool thank you. Yes I did catch that I just wanted to confirm that was the one you are talking about. I went to download that rom and it said it was not available any longer.

kinda... but with stock kernel wifi didn't work... however fota kernel works so great with overclock that there's no need for stock kernel and it's not a problem, I'm happy to help

Thank you for the link! I downloaded and got the ROM working now with the stock kernel. Now I am going to try and flash the sick kernel. Just to confirm, this is the one I need:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261819
I am going to put it in my fastboot folder, rename it boot.img and then flash it using cmd.
Does this sound right?
Also, just an FYI...I received a PM from Curiousn00b stating that the newest version is now available.

Hey, I got the kernel to work! Now my wifi is operational. Now that the new version is available, do I dare ask how to go about updating? Is it just the same process? Thanks!

You flashed the fota sick kernel? Well, you can update by just wiping dalvik and cache and flashing the new rom, but it's a full wipe (same process as before) is always recommended over the previous "update"

Yes, I was able to flash the FOTA sick kernel. I have it set at 1.709 GHz max and 245 mhz min. with the I/O scheduler on noop. I put the governor on "performance" and did a benchmark test with antutu. My score was 7069 which didn't look all that great compared to the others. Does this sound about right? I was also only getting 6.2 fps on the 3D testing.

hmmm... I have no idea... I've never really messed with benchmarks before, don't think they matter much, I'm happy just having a lag-free phone btw for typical use, I'm sure you know, performance gov. will kill your battery fairly quickly, so I usually use [email protected]$$v2 gov. or lionheart, but usually the first

You are right, the phone is more snappy for sure. What GHz do you use for everyday? I was using [email protected]$$v2 gov but put it on performance just during the test. I also have buzzlauncher as my launcher so I am not sure if that is taking away from the performance, but it looks nice. I am just happy that it is working, so again thanks for your help.
