I have a rooted htc one m8 running 4.4.2, I've had it in my pocket, and the thing is it unlocks itself sometimes, and the screen is turned on. So today I turned it off, and when I turned it back on I lost service. The pin input screen doesn't pop up anymore, not after shutting it down and restarting, and turning my airplane mode on and off, on top of that my my middle on-screen button doesn't work anymore. I can press it and It gives me feedback by vibrating, however it doesn't take me back to my homescreen anymore. This is enervating as you see, not being able to talk or send messages... Please do give me a solution or refer me to the thread treating this issue as I've not found such thread. Thanks in advance!
Regarding the "Home Button" I don't have any clue.. Rooted my One as well and never happened to have this problem.
The no service maybe is not directly linked to the other problem. Are you using an original nano SIM, or did you cut it yourself? If yes it could have caused a defect which has not occurred right away. Have you tried removing the SIM tray while phone is on and place it back in? If not what happens when doing this.

I'm using an original nano sim, and yes I did try removing it. I haven't dropped my phone, nor was the sim out of place, no dust or water could have reached it either, I've got a sturdy case around it!
Do you know how to use adb and fastboot commands?
If yes you could try to clear the whole cache of the phone to check if the problems result of some data in the cache.
The commands would be
adb fastboot bootloader
fastboot erase cache
No data will be lost by this. Thus this is what I would try first. Otherwise I would - as long as you are completely stock - perform a factory reset. By this all data on the phone would be lost including installed APPs, but it is with it, if you get the problem solved by this.

I've factory reseted it, wanting to flash the stock recovery so i could install the 4.4.3 ota, however inbetween everything I installed a back- up from twrp recovery. i didn't even know I had backed it up, it was a fairly recent one. So I got lucky, the problem has resolved itself, thank you for your help!

I've backtracked the root of the evil, the latest update of Echo Lockscreen bypasses the pin-input screen which causes the 'home' button to malfunction and obviously the fact that I couldn't get service! So I disabled it and put my pin in and enabled the lockscreen back on!

Ok, I am having a VERY strange issue with my gsm galaxy nexus. First off it started acting weird rebooting itself all the freaking time so I got fed up and decided it was time to try a new ROM (currently on stock 4.0.4).
Now here is where the crazyness starts. I tried to root and install CWM but nothing sticks, so I try to ODIN a factory image and when the phone reboots I am back on stock with all my settings and files still in tact like nothing flashed, I try to connect to my computer and transfer a file to my phone and when I reboot or go into recovery the file is gone. I have tried re-locking my bootloader and when I reboot, it is still unlocked. I have even factory reset my phone and all my data is STILL there. I don't understand. It seems as if my memory in my phone is not allowing any writing or something. Please tell me I am not the first to experience this.
Basically no matter what I do or try, my phone stays the exact way I currently have it. PLEASE HELP!!!
I also just noticed that when I enable wifi and then reboot, wifi is disabled and also whenever I reboot, my apps that I have already updated try updating again. It just seems like my storage is not writable.
I think you need to make a video of you doing a factory rest and have it not work. I love paranormal videos.
Have you tried fastboot? If you are using the toolkit, stop, do it manually.

Yes, i have tried fastboot both manually and with the toolkit. I have literally tried everything. This makes NO sense. I have had a ton of android devices so I know how things should be working and this thing is busted.

Format the internal memory ... last option but it might help, good luck
Are you able to boot into the OS still? Does adb work? Does fastboot work?
I just tried running some commands which should have pretty much wiped my device.
I ran
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase cache
When I reboot the phone, all my damn data is still there and everything is in tact.
Interesting...

Apparently it's common on gsm models.

I also noticed if I try to uninstall any app the phone reboots itself and if it doesn't when I do reboot it myself the app I uninstalled is back.
I think we can all agree there is only one thing that can be causing this: the ghost of Steve Jobs.
I read somewhere that the exact same thing happened to someone with an SII. I don't think they were able to find a solution.
This is very interesting. I'd contact Samsung.

My friend has a possessed iPod touch, it just does things automatically.
Kind of funny to watch though.
Sounds like a bad flash chip. I'd suggest the repartition option in Odin but I'm not sure if it works on the GNex or not. Worth a try if you're desperate

If you do a reset through the settings menu what happens? If nothing it sounds like a bad chip. If it changes that you maybe good to go. I have seen an issue on my wife's phones where it was unable to write to the partition in recovery.

If i do a reset in the menu, it reboots to recovery with a red exclamation so i press all 3 buttons to bring up the menu and try to wipe data/factory reset in the stock recovery and it says it works but when I reboot all my data is still there.
I called Samsung and apparently they wont help me since it is an international version. So basically I have a phone that can't be fixed and will always be in the current state it is in now.
EDIT: I have now found 3 occurrences of this besides mine. One guy with a Galaxy S2, one guy with a Droid X and one guy with a Dell Streak 7. Nobody ever fixed it. Neat
Maybe there are some more option going through the debug port?

I'm limited on the number of commands I can run because I never rooted this phone. Should have been the first thing I did. Figures the only device I never rooted has this happen to it.
Did you try rebooting?

Sprint Evo 4g Supersonic will not load my boot screen. Im not sure what is going on I do know that one of my phones is stock and the other is a rooted phone. What the hell is going on. Im not a noob to root FYI. I build gaming rigs and other computer related issues I can solve fairly easy. However, this is getting under my skin because I want to UNROOT so i can activate service on the one phone and then Root it again back to where I had it. The other phone that is Stock RUU sprint is having the same issue. For the love of God I just want to be able to unlock my stock and root! Awaiting a sound answer to my question and I do hope I posted this in the right catagory of the forums because I saw nothing of this issue for Supersonic RUU EVO 4G. Thanks!
So holding power and volume down at startup doesnt bring up the bootloader screen correct?
I know this may sound obvious, but power off the phone, pull out the battery, put it back in, then try again.
Did you make sure that Fastboot was disabled in your phone's Settings? Cuz that will keep it from booting into your bootloader

You don't need to unroot to activate a phone.
Thanks for the suggestions I already had it off fastboot and I took the battery out and swapped with another one and it worked fine after. Its been a while since I messed with my phones technically.

Captain,
other then the obvious "thanks" Sprint is the one that messed my rooted phones network when changing phone numbers. if I remember correctly its stuck on "Hands Free Activation" continually having the icon circle and "contacting the network" times out and I get code 1012. I can cancel this and use the phone just no service. I went back to a stock rom to do this in order to add a line and switch numbers on both evo 4g supersonics. the rooted failed connection and sprint stock is now my phone. I am going to root this one since it has hboot 2.16 but I have to downgrade windows 8 to 7 ultimate first. NOTHING is compatible with that OS... yet anyways. I will check out your methods as well. I was looking for a forum that would be able to explaine how to activate a rooted phone. Ill get back to you if I have an issue! Thanks

If you wouldn't mind please email me specifically how to bring my phone in. Unless OTA ROOT APP works I need to know in order to restore the phone to its line. In forum mail is ok to reach me at. Thanks.

I have the same problem with being unable to bring up the Bootloader Screen.
So I tried to follow your advice, but I don't see how to disable Fastboot.
I don't know how it was enabled in the first place. I certainly was smart enough to do it.
I went to 'Settings' but see nothing related to Fastboot. Where can it be found?
If this is a common problem, wouldn't it be a good idea to address it in the instructions?

Usually, it is in menu/settings/apps depending on what rom you are on.
I'm on Decks Reloaded and I think it is disabled by default, therefore, no option to enable it.
Got a HTC One X second hand from eBay, from the UK. Problem is that it's stuck in airplane mode, which clearly seems to be a software issue. Basically, the previous owner had routed the phone (I know this because Clockworkmod is the recovery) and has installed a stock ROM without re-locking the phone. This is probably what's causing the issue. How can I go about fixing this? Nearly all other solutions point to using a Nandroid backup. Obviously since I didn't do the bootloader changing etc. I don't have a backup. Is there anything I can do without going through the long-winded task of sending it back?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Reboot into bootloader (reboot with volume down, keep it until you get into bootloader). Find your CID and main version (i.e. download "minimal adb and fastboot", get into fastboot mode in your bootloader, type "fastboot.exe getvar all"). Once you have your CID and main version google for "nandroid backup collection htc one x". Download it, put inside clockworkmod/backup on your phone and, since you already have CWM, you can easily recover from downloaded image from recovery.
Lot of threads around if you need more detailed instructions for a particular steps. Good luck!
Go to the nandroid backup section (search it) and download the backup that suits your CID number and restore.

Ive found one the same but surely you could flash a custom kernel then custom rom? And then use it normally?
It is a well documented problem, it can sometimes be fixed quite easily but there are handsets out there that cannot be fixed so easily or not at all. I would have thought that the majority of them being sold on eBay will be the ones that the owners have tried to fix unsuccessfully, and buying them would be a bit of a lottery

i'm going to start by addressing my phone. i have a HTC m8 it is rooted and i have updated it to 5.0.1. but during that process i ran across some issues that might have caused issues in other areas. when t- mobile release the lollipop update i goggle how to get it on a rooted phone and basically what i got from it was i had to replace custom recovery with stock recovery to get the update and if i wanted to go back i had to do the opposite. when i watch the video i didn't realize the video was old and had not been updated until i got to the part of the screen(on my device) where it was a red triangle. so make a long story short i found the correct stock recovery and installed it but when i did. It said i lost su and i need to re install and that became a problem as while because i could not found nothing that was helpful. so i just tried uninstalling xposed framework mode and when i restarted my phone. It was stuck in a boot-loop. so it took me a minute to get out of that and all it took was me installing su again. so now that's out of the way when my phone came back on i realize a lot of my app force closing and maybe i thought it was minor bugs form the new update but after awhile nothing change. so at this point i'm done with this i'm ready to go back to stock and i cant because my internal storage is missing and i know all of my flies is there because when i boot into recovery i see them but when i connect my phone to my PC it shows a limit of files and on my phone in certain apps it shows files and in others apps it doesn't. i just need to know how to fix it so i can unroot.
Sir,
Please wait until mods will move this thread to the device specific forum for more relevant answers.

So.... About a month ago I got the first text message informing me of this battery downgrade... so I started investigating and came across a FB group who were using a version of Ez-Disabler to block updates. I successfully installed and blocked everything and then some... Fast forward to Thursday evening. While at work I needed to find something that was in my secured folder but my secured folder was disabled in the previous blocking session. So I decided to go into Ez-Disabler and enable the knox packages. I noticed there were some things enabled that I did not enable so upon trying to correct the issues I noticed they wouldn't disable. I wasn't sure what to do because my license wasn't being verified. So I removed Ez-Disabler and installed Package Disabler Pro. I was able to disable the things I needed but I think I might have accidentally disabled something I needed to have enabled to start up my phone because now it is stuck at the AT&T logo during start up and wont go past that when I try to turn it on. Then on top of it all... I can't turn it off after wards. I have to wait until the battery dies to try to put it in the hard reset menu.... I really don't want to lose whats on my phone. there are some things I need to save if possible..... Is there anything I can do?
