[Q] Head/Earphones Sound Only Coming Through One Side? - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've owned my G-Pad since April, but it wasn't until yesterday did I use earphones with it; only to discover that it only comes through one ear. I've tried multiple earphones and headphones; both with and without mics on them.
Since I've bought it over 4 months ago, I can't return it/exchange it for a new one.
Is this a common problem? And is there a fix?

Silly, question, do you have a case on the device? I've found that some cases prevent the earphone plug from going in all the way (even though it appears like the plug is fully pushed in and even feels like it is). Try taking the device out of the case (if you have one) and test again.

Unfortunately more than likely. Make sure that the balance setting in accessibility is set at the middle and that the mode is set to stereo.

[Q] Griffin Handsfree Aux cable....

I was looking at this today, and even though it didn't specifically say the captivate is supported, I went ahead and bought it. It looked like it used the same basic plug most microphone equipped headphones use, but I can't get the button or microphone to work. It does work with an iphone, so I know (the button at least) does work. Does anyone have any ideas on this, or experience with this product?
Thanks

Fair enough...
This is the actual products website:
griffintechnology.com/products/hands-free-microphone
These websites list it and list many more supported device, including the captivate (I know this doesn't change the manufacturer's supported devices):
daydeal.com/product.php?productid=41989&cat=5127
yourwirelesssource.com/buy/accessories/cat/1005/model/1005_302888/accessory/908642
I am not actually able to post links but these should get you there.

The compatibility page lists only a few android phones and leaves many older and newer ones that you expect to work - it lists the Cliq, but not the Droid or any other Moto phone - nothing recent either.
So I would say it just won't work - I can't tell you why - the factory headphones that come with the captivate have a similar design - 4 conductors, mic and button, but maybe the headset jacks are looking for a different impedance.
whatever the reason, I don't think you will find an easy solution.
Thanks for the response, I had pretty much decided to return it already. I did actually pull out a multimeter to check the rings, and found out something I hadn't realized before. That the button isn't a direct on/off switch, which goes along with what your thoughts were about the impedance.
I've had an idea for this exact product (more or less) for a little while now, and thought it was great to see it in store. Maybe I can cannibalize a pair of earbuds and attach a male end to the other side.

Headphone issues

I just bought a pair of Skullcandy Fix In Ear headphones. While Skullcandy is not a great brand I had store credit that was about to expire and decided to grab their best in ears. I just got them in yesterday and upon plugging them in to my S3 the right side ear bud is not working. I tried it out on my computer and it works great. So, my question is does anybody know how to fix this or if it is a common issue? I tried looking around and saw that skullcandy's are hit or miss but i didn't see anybody have an issue like this, most had issues with the volume rocker.
Do you use a case on your S3?
Is the headphone plugged in completely?
Do other headphones work properly with your phone?

I do have a Cruzerlite TPU case on it
I took the case off and plugged it in all the way to make sure that it wasnt working
I also tried having the plug partially out of the jack as I read that it will sometimes works in which case it would be a defect
Other headphones work including the other pair of skullcandy's i got.
Skullcandy has great warranty. Just ask for replacement. My s3 doesnt have problems with the factory ones nor the phillips in ear
Sent from my Galaxy S3 using neighbors wifi

I have the exact same headphones. they don't work withmine either. back to using stock
You could try using an extension cable.
Since headphone cables usually break at the plug it might also help you to prolong their lifetime.

Wave 3 headphone jack problem....

Since there is no general board or help board for Wave phones, im sorry that i have to post this here....
I just got a Wave 3 from this guy, and the phone is in perfect condition and everything....
But, if i connect my Sennheiser EARPHONES, or my Pioneer HEADPHONES, the phone COMPLETELY freezes. Display doesn't work, buttons dont work, i cant turn off the screen. Then everything returns to normal when i unplug them.
I have to plug them in and out 2,3 times sometimes in order for them to finally work.
Stock Samsung earphones dont have this problem, but they are awful and only one earpiece works.
On my previous android phones, i never had this problem.
Please help me, i use my phone primarily for music, and i like the bada music player a lot.
UPDATE:
I just found out that the STOCK earphones have 4 conductors, and my sennheiser earphones have 3 conductors
Could THIS BE the reason?
I added a picture.
try to flash to an other firmware or update via samsung kies.
maybe this is a bug in your rom...
How do i flash a bada rom? Is there a risk of bricking like Android?
I did a fw update via Kies yesterday, that did not fix the problem.

I didn't hear about someone who flashed his WAVE correctly and has problem..
Can you check do you have 4 conductor earphones? If you have 3 conductor earphones and you NEVER had this problem, then something is wrong with the phone.
Please check my picture for comparison

the freezing problem may be from software bugs.
If not, check your headphone jack input and aalso from other devices, check if something is different, also, its 2nd hand if i'm right? if so, it may be damaged, i dont know.

But dude, i tried 2 headphones/3 earphones:
Stock samsung 4-conductor earphones - no problems
Sennheiser 3-conductor earphones - freezing, 2-3 times plug in/out, works
Nokia 4-conductor earphones - no problems
Canyon 3-conductor headphones - freezing, 2-3 times plug in/out, works
Pioneer 3-conductor headphones - freezing, 2-3 times plug in/out, works
Ahh, i must sell them and get earphones with a microphone (4-conduct).....this is so stupid -_-

I don't know what to say... a friend of mine said that her sister had the same problem with her Wave 3.
I bought some 4-conductor earphones today, and they work good.

i have 2 of those 3 conductor (both skullcandy), and they work without freezing problems
ps: i use this kind of set (same model, just other color)
maybe its a problem with wave 3.
i use wave 1

In the end, its not really a problem, its just that wave 3 doesnt support 3-conductor very well. All 4-conductor ones work good. :good:

Instant reboot when playing audio with headphones plugged in

Hi,
Unrooted stock N7 (2013) here. This is strange but when I plug in my headphones the tablet will reboot as soon as audio starts playing. This happens with any app, any headphones. I DO get sound out of the headphones for the 5 seconds or so between plugging them in and the device rebooting. Any ideas??

Sounds like your headphone-jack is causing a short circuit. Are there any control-buttons on your headphones? (they work with causing a short circuit). Is there any dust in the headphone-jack? If thats not the case, you might want to return your unit.
Edit: If this problem wasn't there from the first device-usage: have you tried a factory reset?
Yeah a short was my first thought as well, but it's hard to see that being the case since I actually DO get sound out of the headphones? It's had the problem ever since I got it and returning is not really an option since I bought it in on a trip in the States and I live in Europe. Factory reset doesn't help. I've tried with different headphones.I guess it's most likely a hardware fault I'll have to live with....

Well, your options are very limited indeed. If you dare, you could do a device teardown: the headphone-jack can be de-soldered and replaced by the looks of it: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus+7+2nd+Generation+Teardown/16072/. But, that will surely void your warranty + there is a huge risk of permanently damaging your device.

Headphone Jack Inconsistent

I got a brand new pair of earbuds (Brainwavz Delta something) and plugged them into my HTC 10.. they work fine for a bit then if I move the phone just right (or sometimes do nothing) the music stops, there's no longer a headphone icon in the status bar, and I have to unplug and plug them back in.. any idea what this may be caused by?
My Xiaomi Piston 3s worked fine with it, they just died in one ear :/
Edit** the headphones work fine with my Nexus 7, so it's not an issue of compatibility... unless the fact that it's a 3-ring plug (which should be fine, so were the pistons)
Same issue with headphone jack
I was using a pair of Fischer Audio Consonance Pro IEM's on my M8 and now 10 and experiencing the same issues. Songs skipping all over the place, starting, pausing, the OK Google app starting up and saying it couldn't hear what I said, or picking up something from what I am listening to. It is maddening. I love this phone so far, but this issue will drive me crazy if I can't be easily fixed.
It's as if the jack/plug is coming loose, since it fails to recognize the headphones until I unplug it and replug. It's very annoying, and seems to happen only if I tip the phone just the right way :/ hope it's not a hardware defect...
I have a feeling this is because of the edges, if you look at the headphones Jack it isn't flush the edge goes in a little thus you don't get 100% covered 3.5m lead.
Does seem worse in some headphones though

Not really, the best way would be to get a very small 3.5m extension cable, one that isn't so sensitive, but you would only find out through trial and error. Or buy another set of headphones. For example my bose qc25 aren't to bad but a cheap sony set I have if I move abit they crackle.
Is the one bit of design htc messed up. If they would of moved it a few mm to the front and problem solved.
Surprised more people aren't moaning about it as one big points is the 24 bit audio.
Can we confirm that this is an issue across all HTC 10's and not just an unlucky few? I thought my phone might've been defected. 2 Beats headphones I have (got both as gifts) do not seem to work properly. But if I use other a plantronics headset I have, works just dandy. I'm afraid to buy any headphones not knowing which would or wouldn't work. This is not a good thing at all.
I have a Sol republic headphone with mic integrated and doesn't work properly on mine either. However, a friend of mine has a sol republic headphone too, and it works. I bought a panasonic tcm 125 and it works really well.. so IDK, I'm going to change the cable on my sol rep to see if that fix the problem.
Might be headphones with integrated control/mic which has the extra ring :/
Question: when does the issue happen for everyone else? Mine almost always acts up when I turn the screen off, maybe that has something to do with it
I can confirm this is NOT a wide spread issue, I even dropped my phone, not low enough to hang on the cord but enough movement to yank on it, I have messed with it, played around to see if I can make it have an issue, but no issue exists, its either an unlucky few or your headphones.
The only issue I have not related to this is my headphones I tested, the "Audio Technica ATH-M50" jack is too big to fit in the headphone jack while my phone has its case on (Spigen Neo Hybrid Crystal), taking the case off solves it, just barely not big enough cut out on the case for that model of headphones, regardless they don't sound as good as my IEM's so F em! lol
Have you guys tried other headphones or AUX cords? I don't have this issue anywhere, not via Headphones, not at my work on are speaker system, and not in my car via AUX.
So the actual shape or design of the headphone jack it self is NOT flawed like I noticed some have speculated.
I've been using my m50x or bose qc20's. Both work fine with no issues.
Pretty sure it's headphones with integrated controls for Apple devices that don't work. My jbl reflects which I use for running (3 rings) don't work if pushed all the way in. But my bose sound true work just fine. And the bose just so happen to be made for samsung and android devices. If I had some apple earpods around I'd test it but I'm thinking it's just headphones with integrated controls exclusively for Apple that might have issues.

Wish that were the case.. mine are specifically Android remote headphones :/
Experiencing similar issues with my Sennheiser Urbanite XL headphones. Seemingly random moments where the headphones seem to just disconnect with the slightest movement (or non-movement).

Hmmm you're right. My sisters htc 10 seemingly all headphones just do not to work. Might be a small batch issue. I'm thinking about exchanging out for another one because I have the yellow band issue on the bottom of the screen anyways. Really don't want to play the exchange game like I did with the nexus 6p especially since HTC doesn't have the same support Google does. Gonna exchange if I get a bad one twice I'm just returning this phone all together. Hate to see it go because this phone is gorgeous.

Ah I have the unlocked model and I modded it to use on Verizon. I had no problem replacing phones through verizon though. Switched out my s6 edge 4 times for free due to display and speaker issues. Of course you end up getting their certified like new device which may or may not bother you. But if it doesn't you can just go to a corporate store and show them some headphones won't work. Most likely they'll ship you one free of charge.

I'm not a huge fan of Verizon anyway.. parents are just too afraid to lose the coverage (T-Mobile is top of my list but they're not so convinced)
I accidentally whacked my headphone jack very lightly with the tip of my finger and now my headphones seem to randomly disconnect. It works fine with my aux cable, but with my headphones with a mic it seems this happens.
