[Q] Smart Notice - No Background images - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
For my smart notice app, it's not loading the background images on the widget. All I see are just the text for the weather and time.
My phone is running the leaked version of V10J and mobile network is 3UK.
Thanks all!

Have you tried switching it off and back. Also try full system reset. Failing that you may need to re root.

[Q] Wifi issues + getting rid of the 3-dot bottom menu

Hey,
Got my One X yesterday and so far it's been really amazing. There are two issues that are getting increasing annoying though. I am based in Hong Kong, my oneX is running the latest available software 1.29.708.9
(1) I mostly use the university on-campus 802.11x network. After using Google Maps for around 20seconds, it remains connected to the network but I am no longer able to use the Internet. I need to manually restart the Wifi (On/Off) in order to be able to use it again. It does not happen usually with any other software, youtube HD vids as well as heavy-content webpages both work like a charm.
Moreover, after not having used the phone for an hour or so, the phone appears to have the same symptoms, ie. remains connected to the network but I have to restart the wifi manually in order to use it. It is quite a big deal as I have to restart the network every now and then to make sure I dont have any new emails/ whatsapp msgs.
I did some reading and people here seem to have been able to solve the problem by changing to band to 2.4Ghz as opposed to the 5Ghz freq. I could not locate that option anywhere though. Is it available in the stock HTC ROM?
Any solutions?
(2) The 3-dot bottom menu in non-ICS apps (especially games) is extremely annoying. I dont mind exchanging the recent apps button for the settings button so that I can get rid of the black bar. I found this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582506 but the problem is I am running a 1.29.708.9 version . Is it going to be compatible with that mod? Can I basically install it over my current stock ROM once I root the phone?
Most of the custom ROMs available are based on the x.xx.401.xx version. Can I still install and use these ROMs without any issues?
Cheers!

1. I think they are talking about changing band from 2.4Ghz to 5Ghz freq on the WiFi Router NOT on your phone.
BUT you can download/install an app from Play store named "Power Saver Settings" and uncheck "Put data connection to sleep" option
2. AFAIK you can install custom ROMs with no problems. BUT check with the ROM developer prior to installing. You are solely responsible if anything goes wrong...am sure you are aware of that.
Hope this helps. Cheers

[Q] LiquidSmooth 4.4.2 3/28 huge zoomed apps, forgetful wifi and SELinux run amok

A few weeks back I upgraded from 4.1.2 stock to 4.4.2 Liquidsmooth on my SGH-T999V. I've updated a few times since and am running 2014-03-28. The 4.4.2 transition has been quite painful. I'm lost control of my phone and key functionality no longer works. I really don't understand how manufacturers think it is ok to suddenly turn on SELinux with their settings, provide no means to change them and disable every venue I can find to configure my device or turn this off when needed.
1. Has anyone found a workaround which can get SELinux into permissive on this device? If I don't find a solution to this, this will be the last Samsung device I ever buy... All my Nexus devices all work well with 4.4.2, updated easy with OTA updates and do not have this foolishness.
2. On 4.4.2, my device keeps forgetting my wifi access points and it is getting tiresome. I'll find the device on mobile data, restore my wifi access points from Titanium backup XML and before the restore notification even completes I'll be back on working Wifi. Wifi lasts about a day. Has anyone found a solution to this or even what is causing this?
***Edit 2. seems to have fixed itself in recent nightly builds.
3. There are certain key applications which do not work properly on this 4.4.2 ROM. Some I gave up on. Others I can't. Specifically both ING Direct Canada banking application and Symantec VIP Access soft token both fail in a similar way. Basically after a normal splash screen the main screens of the applications have huge text and huge buttons. Elements of the UI are also huge ex. the menu on the login screen which used to be a single or a couple rows now takes half the screen. Basically everything is on at least 6X zoom. I'm not even really sure what is causing this. I've tried tweaking some per app settings but they didn't help. Can anyone suggest a solution?
I do like the UI improvements but that may just be from switching to KK Launcher. The device seems faster and my battery does seem to last a lot longer on this ROM.
Update
The apps which are huge zoomed are getting slowly replaced with fixed versions.
Forgetful Wifi access points seem to have been fixed in the nightly builds. Selinux remains an unworkable problem.

[Q] Camera app missing capture modes after Lollipop update

Hi,
Recently updated my stock ROM for M8 to the Lollipop update.
I am in the UK, on EE. Software version is 4.19.61.2.
After a few days I was reading about HTC camera improvements online and thought I would check the camera app and see if I noticed any updates.
This was when I noticed that the 'Capture' menu which normally contains quite a few options, now only shows 'Camera', 'Zoe Camera' and '360 Panaroma'.
I read another feed where someone had similar problem, the advice given was, try enabling blinkfeed, update from Play, check no custom launchers interfering with camera, factory reset.
So, I enabled Blinkfeed again and I have no custom launchers installed. This did not make any difference. I checked on Play and the app is the most up to date version. So I gave in and did a factory reset from HBoot. Turned on and camera still the same.
Anyone have any ideas on what else I could do?
Many thanks for any replies!
Nobody at all experienced this?
I'm really stuck for what to do, is there any point contacting HTC?

[Q] HTC Sense weather having issues

I just reset my Tilt 2 to default because the file manager and the program uninstaller were freaking out and not working right anymore. Now the weather widget in HTC Sense no longer works right. I keep getting a dialog box that reads as followes:
Connection Error
There was a connection error while
attempting to download weather
data. Retry?
[Yes] [No]
Does anyone have a solution to this? It never did this before. I suppose I could just reinstall the ROM and see if that fixes it, or try resetting the device again, but I wanted to get some ideas here first if possible.
I know your post is fairly old, but I believe they disconnected the server that provided these weather updates some time ago.
Same issue with SPB Weather...
I am running an Energy ROM, and can still get weather updates. But without a sim card, I can only get one city via wifi??
[edit] Weather Underground app still works!

[Q] Google Services using massive data constantly... what's going on here?

Ever since upgrading to Lollipop (5.0.1), my G3 has been consuming vast quantities of mobile data (much more than it does on Wi-Fi) , at a rate that is threatening even my 1GB monthly cap. I have never had this issue with this phone before upgrading, nor with any other phone I have owned, and I can't find any resources about it online. It appears to use small amounts of data (a few KB) continuously throughout the day, not in large chunks, so it is not Google trying and failing to download a software update like come CM users have seen.
I uninstalled every app that I did not have before the Lollipop upgrade, as well as any potentially troublesome apps, to no avail. Then I tried booting into safe mode, removing all my synced accounts except the main Google one, turning off sync for that account, turning off data backup, clearing the caches of all my apps, and not opening any non-stock apps for a day. Even with all that, it still ran through a few megs in just an afternoon. Turning everything back on and setting accounts back up did not increase or decrease the data consumption. Restricting its background data does stop it from using mobile data, but it also seriously cripples my device (Play store stops working, sync stops working, calendar etc. stop working...)
I attached screenshots that show its data usage. It decreased considerably around June 9th because I finally got Wi-Fi in my room. But even still, it continues to eat my data for no apparent reason. I REALLY want to avoid a factory reset (and I doubt it would help anyway, since it was factory reset for the upgrade, and running everything completely stock doesn't help).
Can anyone give me some ideas here?
Info about the phone:
Model: LG-D851 (T-Mobile)
Android version: 5.0.1 (stock, rooted)
Kernel version: 3.4.0
Software version: D85120b
Network: olleh (South Korea, the same SIM card I used with the phone before the upgrade)
Google Play Services version: 7.5.71 (1955121-430)
Google Services Framework/Google Account Manager versions: 5.0.1-1602158
Hey, try limiting background data. There should be a tick above the usage graph.
Also many people have problems after upgrading to lollipop, including me, you should try factory reset. I had like half of my apps broken and frequent crashes after upgrading.

Hi Martin, thanks for the reply. I'm trying to avoid restricting background data because I often have to go long stretches without Wi-Fi, and a lot of my apps stop working properly if background data is restricted. And I don't want to factory reset because it takes me days to set my phone back up to how it was.
