So I am using the latest ROM from xxVirusxx Kingdom b1.3 (I think thats what it is) and it is running great. But the only glitch that I have seen from it, is that on certain websites the web browser automaticly closes. Has any one else experienced this, and has a possible solution? I've tried different browsers to see if it was the stock HTC browser, but no luck. Any help is appriciated.
I don't know if this is even the place to be asking this, but I could not actually write in the development section because of my status. This was the only place for me to start a question... sorry for being a n00b
try to update your flash. Can also try to visit the website using mobile mode.
It is known that the new browser will crash on some sites if they are not displayed on Mobile mode. There are some instances when the browser will force close because of flash. To know if this is the case, when you attempt to select a flash video to play it should highlight before it begins to play. If it doesn't highlight and the browser force closes, that means it is the flash. Not you won't see the force close message, but the browser will auto close, which is what you said.

I'm having the same issues.
The "mobile" option seem to make sense, I'll check and advise. Thanks for the info.
Hey guys! I have my GNex since yesterday and I love it oh so much
Just one question: Is it possible to change the stock browser's agent permanently to desktop? Because I always browse on desktop mode and hate most mobile optimized sites :/ And everytime I restart the browser I have to tick "show desktop site" again.
If not possible on stock, is there a solution with root? I'm gonna root that beauty anyway ASAP
Regards

P.S. sorry if such a thread already exists, but the search function from xda app is unbelievably crappy...

its not a stupid question its just not possible on the stock browser. The only option is to install another browser such as Dolphin Browser HD which works very well and can be set to desktop by default.

In Honeycomb you type in "about:debug" in the browser address bar, which enables the Debug category in settings. From there you go to UAString and select Desktop. Does this not work in ICS?

Yes this seems to work
edit: scratch that - it's not persistent

I know that hack, but it didn't show me an agent to change to desktop mode on ICS. In Honeycomb it's possible to change between mobile, tablet and desktop agent by default since version 3.2 btw. But about:debug shows some other neat options too, like OpenGL rendering for example.

I think you're talking about the check-box for "Desktop version" that is already available without about:debug? That's what I talked about in the OP. It resets after every browser restart.

Ok thanks. I'm aware there are other really good browsers, but Google improved the stock browser a lot in Android 3.x and 4.x and I kinda like it a lot So I thought it might be possible to hack. Doesn't seem like that though :/
Do you think devs could modify the browser.apk in some way to make desktop mode persistent?
Cheers

The UAString in HC sticks across browser and device re-boots.

Maybe in Honeycomb. It definitely doesn't stick in Ice Cream Sandwich. I've tried it. It doesn't stick. That's why I said it's not persistent.
Hey man, I almost swear I saw that what your talking about in this hour long video by Google /Samsung in October some time. ICS is supposedly meant to be possible to do just never found an option.
Hahahahahaha
Just found it. Press menu (top right corner, three dots sat on each other) when in browser and you find a check box for request as desk top site. This should be what your after man
Edit
After a more careful read through seems you found this option already. As for making it stick after reboot surely its not too much hard work to check one box after reboot? Permanent solution unknown

Yeah, I knew about this feature from the start, but as I mentioned before, it doesn't stick to it. And I don't talk about full reboot, the option doesn't even stick if the Browser was closed and needs to be restarted

I've tried the "about:debug" -method and it seems it's not working with ics browser. Any other ways to make the browser to act like desktop chrome?
In the menu (3 vertical dots top right of the screen), there is an option "Request Desktop Site", check that box. Its possible it may be under settings (im using a newer release, i don't remember where it was before (if it even moved))

Forgot to mention; that would also work if the option you just recommended could be made permanently "on" by default for all sites. Now I have to manually enable it every time I access sites.

ah, that is irritating. You could give Dolphin Browser HD (or Mini) a try; in the options you can set the user agent to desktop, iphone, ipad, or custom (!!)

I guess you're right.
If someone knows how to change the UA-string from the source, I could try to compile modded browser myself.
to make stock browser default desktop mode .
turn off wifi.
open browser.
top URL bar. TYPE, "about:debug" press enter or go
open the menu ,
click on setting
click Debug
Click UAString
then set to Desktop.
and your done.
when you set the default user agent to desktop can you request the mobile site?
EDIT:
Never Mind... It does not, but it appears that after doing this the debug option stays in the settings so I can switch back and forth between user agents now. Nice.

thats exactly what i was going to say.
I received an upgrade to 4.0.2 and had to redo this in my browser. The updated seems to have wiped it for some reason.

I second this. ICS Browser+ is MUCH better!!!!
I should put the ICS browser on the market with the debug menu enabled and renamed. Takes like 2 lines of code
Honestly, I tried many browsers out there, but I still love chrome, and love the little things it has. Only thing I dont like is how flash is not supported. Is there a way to get flash on Chrome, or is there no ways to get that? I tried searching for similar topics, but I couldnt find any.
If there is no way, can you recommend a browser that is like chrome, but with flash?
Stuff I like about chrome are:
1. I like how I dont lose my tabs even after closing the app (task manager) or even shutting off the phone
2. I like how chrome auto fills the url, such as if I type xd, it autofills all the url l
3. The smoothnews, and the speed.
Thank you!

Nope..there isn't. All mobile browsers do not support flash anymore. U might be able to get it on dolphin or firefox but I found it to be unreliable. It worked with some basic flash i used as a test but not for a local news site when a brush fire was going burn down my home.. Ur supposed to get the app for whatever ur trying to do with flash but obviously u cant find an app for some things like local news... so you just speed home and drive crazy the old way.
The dependency is two fold.. one is android version and the other is browser version. So if you run android 2.0 and ancient browser then you have flawless flash
BTW Opera mobile is faster than chrome and it does all those things u liked (not flash tho). I only use chrome on desktop but I test it on android with every new version. It's still slower on some sites.
Aww thats too bad I guess.
Thanks for the recommendation. Ill trybout opera

My Verizon G4 only came with Chrome browser. I saw some posts mentioning another stock browser installed on some phones. If you have the other browser, could you please upload the apk?
Same here, just chrome and I'm on Sprint

T-Mobile USA. Only browser is Chrome.
LG 818 N in India came with some other browser. I am using only chrome

I believe all the USA phones come with only Chrome. Been using #NoChromo google it for the thread other's are using it as well on the G4 I like it alot. Too bad we can't uninstall chrome.
My LG-H815, softvare V10a-EUR-XX, came with 2 diferent browser... Chorme and stock... on my previous galaxy SIII I used chrome, but I find the stock browser in LG G4 far better than chrome.
Stock browser also come within QSlide apps, so you can launch it from quick settings panel and then resized it to flow over desktop. The button controls for browsing can also be customized inside the browser, so it is realy a great browsing experience.
Here are some pics:
My phone came with the stock LG browser, but I downloaded Chrome because I like it.

Thanks for posting it! So far, it won't let me install it. I'll keep messing with it though.
Anybody figured out how to install the browser?
Sent from my LG-H811 using XDA Free mobile app
Yea I am really pissed that the US carriers rip out the stock browser with QSlide. We installed it in the G2 forums but it requires flashing it (I think).
I use the QSlide apps on occasion. Although on the G2, the Phone app would not allow for in-call button presses for Automated Attendant options. I mean it WOULD allow it... but they just weren't passed to the other side. Kinda defeats the purpose because I would have an email open with a conference bridge phone number and connection number. I could dial the number but not enter the number to join.
The Browser was pretty sweet though but irrelevant now that we have dual window I guess, although I think we can only dual windows certain apps. God I want root.
My US Cellular version (LGUS991) only had Chrome as a pre-installed browser, but after having some very annoying (albeit trivial) issues with Chrome on this device I opted to just remove it and opted to use Opera for Android (which I am finding has all the features I liked about Chrome and then some).
I use to be all about Chrome but it seems like it has been dropping the ball for me as of late (on both the Android devices and on my Laptop actually).

I'm on the Verizon G4. I tried putting the whole folder under system/apps and system/priv-apps, set all the permissions the same as the surrounding files and folders and force close every time. I would love to be able to use this browser. Can anyone help?
sometimes the lib file doesn't match with apk...what version of fw you used..
Once i have tried replaced camera apk from e to b, got force close even after clear cache/data..but when replaced with g fw, its working..so i guess you have to try with another version if possible
