How to get info off phone with broken screen? - Sprint LG Optimus G

Hey all,
I am searching furiously but I thought it might be a good idea to ask directly too.
So i smashed my phone today. Touch does not work, but I can see it. I think getting a replacement won't be difficult, but until then, I have files both in storage and app data that I would like to recover. Since I have TWRP, the recovery is touch and I can't access anything in it. I cant unlock the phone, so I can't get stuff off of the storage either. I think Droid Explorer can help with that, but do I need USB debugging? I am pretty sure I turned it off for some stupid reason. How could I use ADB to extract the app data files?
Thanks! I'll keep on searching and post an answer if I find one!

Try booting into download/bootloader mode or whatever it is called (sorry, I have had so many brands of android. They all call it something different.) And try flashing a clockworkmod based recovery. Then you can use the buttons to navigate the the storage / access ADB through recovery.

Thank you for the help. I do already have a recovery on it, TeamWin whatever-it-is 2.6.3, it's touch based

You can still flash over that, if you can get into download mode, then replace it with CWM. No screen needed.

Duh! I feel stupid. I didn't think of that.
I don't think I'm familiar with the recovery via download mode? I have done a lot with the phone but can't recall if I've used download mode for that (just for installing BINs). I'll look around, thanks!

In case anyone's curious, I got confused myself. it isn't Download Mode you need, it's fastboot. Then use the fastboot program in the Android SDK to flash a non-touch CWM. Thanks again for the advice!
PS I can't seem to egt Droid Explorer to work (it installs, I tell it where the sdk folder is, but then when i run it it says it can't find it). I'm going to try to update my sdk and see if that helps, but I should be able to use ADB to transfer too, i think? How would I save data from the "data" partition 9app data vs. storage data)?

[Tool] Flashable Zip Recoveries

This is for those times when you want to change your recovery but don't have access to a desktop. You need to already have a custom recovery installed otherwise you can't flash the zip (duh!).
Here are some common recoveries in flashable form:
Stock_Optimus_V_Recovery.zip
aospCWMod-VM670-20110531_Recovery.zip
CWM_3.0.2.4_Recovery.zip
Thunderc-v-1.2.0-GNM_Recovery.zip
Xionia_CWMA_12518.4_VM_Recovery.zip
Xionia_CWMA_12518.4_Recovery.zip (Optimus S)
Xionia_CWMA_12518.6_Recovery.zip (Optimus S)
You don't need to do anything special for these. Flash them and your recovery will be changed.
If you want to flash a recovery not listed above using your current recovery, use the following directions:
Make sure your recovery image is not corrupt before using this.
Rename your recovery of choice to vrecovery.img
Place vrecovery.img in the root of your micro SD card
Place Flash_vrecovery.zip anywhere on the micro SD card
Reboot into your custom recovery and flash the zip
Enjoy!
This is fantastic! Thank you.
Wicked Love it! Thanks Dude
is there a way to flash a custom recovery from the stock recovery, my brother flashed the wrong clockwork on his optimus v and now we can't install roms and it currently doesn't have a rom on it. I managed somehow to get the original recovery on the device and I can get adb to connect to it and windows to recognise the device. any ideas?
thanks xda thanks my optimos was brick n now its work is a life thanks ..im use this Stock_Optimus_V_Recovery.zip
aospCWMod-VM670-20110531_Recovery.zip grasias grasiasssssssssssssssss
Not sure if you're comfortable adding it to the list yet, but the latest recovery used with ROM Manager, ClockworkMod 3.2xx (not sure of the final digits), does work on the Optimus V now, thanks to koush.

Is there an easy was to download the img? Can you link me? It's really simple to add it, but isn't this counter to the whole idea of rom manager?

I use the AOSP ROM (dead rom). For some reason, all the IHO ROMS keep rebooting me after installing all my apps. I also use the Xionia recovery and the Xionia 010-anykernel kernel. With that kernel though, your home key and menu key will be switched, but well worth it.

I use the asopCWMod recovery v3.0.2.4 I have the same problem with all the IHO builds, but I found that if I wait till just when all the apps have loaded and all the app icons are visable, then hit a lock screen widget and turn the screen off(wait 5min). When I turn the screen on and unlock everything works great.
I have to do this with every reboot, but it works.

Anyone have this recovery?
Sorry to bring up an old thread, but all the links for the recoveries in the first post are dead.
Would anyone happen to have Xionia_CWMA_12518.4_VM_Recovery.zip?
I have the .img version of it, but I'm not familiar with adb.
If anyone could help, I'd greatly appreciate it.

that's a lot of formatting in your post ;p
on the quick side:
so, my kitkat rom thread and twrp (both in my signature) still have live links to Google drive.
but...
kitkat pretty much requires setting up a sacrificial sd card with that twrp, which you can't remove from the phone. higher speed is better for the card.
that twrp has a kernel which reverses system and userdata, so even if you put it in internal mode, you have to modify updater-scripts to swap all mentions of system and userdata for it to work. with anything I didn't build, like anything pre-kitkat.
I have harmonia (important to set up the phone for activation) but if it's like my Evo 3d, you'll have to manually set the date back to 2019 or whenever the security certificate expired to get the activation app too connect or it'll just error out.
I also have a zip of harmonia I "fixed" to work with that twrp.
somewhere I also have bobzhome GB. and I think a reversed zip of that too.
I might even have older custom recoveries.
if you search around Google you might find the bobzhome rom stashed away downloadable, I was still able to grab it within the last year.
after a while I'll dig and upload stuff to my gdrive.
it sucks that Android file host deleted all my OV files though. I had a lot there.

[HOW-TO] CMW on LTE Version through Rom Manager

If you have any questions, concerns or problems, please post in the CDMA post because I will no longer be checking here.

This is a guide on how to get ClockWorkMod onto your LTE Galaxy Nexus through Rom Manager
Go to market, search "Clockworkmod"
Install Rom Manager*
Open up Rom Manager and select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery"
A pop-up will come up called "Confirm Phone Model," of course choose "Google Galaxy Nexus CDMA"
Now let it install etc, then with a File Manager** with SU access, Go to system, click "Mount R/W"(if using Root Explorer) and then scroll down until you see "recovery-from-boot.p" and rename it to "recovery-from-boot.p.bak"
Close out off your File Manager and go to Rom Manager and select "Reboot into Recovery"
There you go
You should be able to boot into CWM
* Free version works
**I used Root Explorer

Could be because you are on a custom ROM. I am on Android Revolution HD and I don't see it at all as well. I also can directly boot from ROM Manager directly into CWM. I never touched this file at all and I never looked for it.

Then you would follow the steps in the OP
What are the benefits to doing this final part. Is it necessary? Some say they didn't do this? Now on the Thunderbolt I didn't have to have rom manager installed and I could still boot into recovery. Is this the same? If I rename that file (which is in my system directory) will I be able to boot into cwm at any point?
Thanks I have done everything with the exception to this. Wondering if its necessary?
Edit: I guess I should have waited for a response because I went ahead and followed the steps in the OP and it came up with an android with a red triangle. Pulled that battery and booted up ok. Any info I need to be aware of? I wasn't able to boot into recovery from rom manager at first. I can now boot into recovery after reflashing CWM recovery but cannot do anything once I am in it?

Flashing through ROM Manager is just a simpler way to get CWM. And I'm not sure why you would have gotten the red triangle, unless you didn't rename/delete the file in system. And I haven't heard anyone say the couldn't do anything in recovery, so I'm not sure what the problem is there.
When I try and change the file name it says insufficient permissions??
I have root...
Cwm doesn't stick though. I always have to boot reflash recovery and then boot into recovery through from manager..
Any suggestion?

Your file manager doesn't have root privileges, so until you rename/delete the file you won't be able to reboot into CWM

This. I was using astro but changed to root explorer and changed file name. Turned phone off and went into fast boot and then recovery and it worked.
To be clear, I was able to go into recovery before. I would have to open from manager, reflash cwm and boot into recovery.
I was just unable to power phone off and boot into recovery manually. Now I can.

Yeah, that file can cause problems with CWM on LTE, although it's a quick fix, I'm sure it's being worked on for future editions. And since you've been able to flash things, when you use the volume keys to high light options, does it skip one or two every now and then? That's only problem I seem to be having.

This thread found right below my post will be of the most importance to you involving your current situation with your recovery. If you go to the CWM team website, I have linked here and browse the list of phones you'll find that the touch recovery for the AT&T variant is at 6.0.1.4. Just right click on the version number, (Don't left click as it will come up with a page full of random symbols.) and press save as and save it to the desktop. This is the bare .img file. It will have the full file name but before saving it rename it to; (without quotes) "recovery.img". After that follow the steps in the link below in order to flash it with ADB. (Since the other recommended ways aren't working for you).

ROM manager does not recognize the touch recovery since technically it is still considered experimental. Only the basic volume control recovery is recognized. This goes with saying with the free version of this app installed. I however, am not sure as to whether it recognizes it after upgrading to premium as it is a premium feature of ROM Manager.

Its alright if it isn't recognized by ROM Manager. As I said it is still considered "experimental" so it isn't supported by the app. I have had the premium version installed and it wouldn't let me flash the CWM-T through the app. Only when I used ADB did I get through. Still says nothing is installed. Just a little glitch on the developer's side if anything. Don't stress about it, once you can boot into your recovery your good.

I never done something so stupid before lol So I really don't know how to help him...... any way to be able to flash a stock rom maybe via odin ? or stock anything to get the phone to boot up again ? any help is greatly appreciated....... I could boot it up in recovery mode but since sd card is empty I can't restore any roms or any backups since he seem to have deleted them all
well your friend formatted the /system directory so there is no rom on there. of course it wont boot up.
follow this to go back to stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895
DO NOT USE ODIN.
also, tell your friend to leave the phone stock until he knows what he is doing.

OP, you might want to uninstall the drivers you currently have for 'android 1.0' in device manager, reboot the computer and then try installing the new drivers.
Or use a tool kit to download a factory rom and flash it.

att fusion 2 / u8665

Hello so I am new to these forums but have used them in the past for assistance. I have been trying to root a att fusion 2 aka u8665 ive seen a couple posts on here about how to and someone said they were successful but vauge steps cause frustration.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1920528
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1976657
As i said i have been trying for a while and basically tried everything listed in those two posts, also the post where they said they managed to attain root through fastboot confused me. From what i understood fastboot needs root to be able to operate, otherwise the steps in the post about using adb i just keep running into permission issues where i cant mount anything to root it.
I had trouble myself, but figured it out. I recompiled all the files posted by RFE.

still stuck
thank you for the quick response, but see the issue i was having is that fastboot is installed through the adb, yet i cant get it to recognize my device. but again thanks for the quick reply but one last thing this recovery.img is it a pre rooted image?

not yet i am going to try again in a bit here though, still running into issues where fastboot will not recognize the device. im guessing a driver issue, except not sure why they wont work.

If anyone else would like to contribute please do. I've had 5 attempts at registering this type of device without triggering a call-home. I've swapped out 90% of all the components that brand the phone AT&T (including huawei-hardware-extensions & mobile phone "care"??). When using Titanium Backup you will notice that some of the specially protected APK files cannot be removed or "found" - you will get the message "APK file not found." The only way to get around this is to use fastboot and pull the file from the device before removing it. If you remove the wrong system APK your phone won't be bricked, but it will give you infinite android.acore force close loops and other nasty crippling bugs (such as no touch-keys backlight). If you want to be sure that you are not doing any damage, do a full reboot and cache clear after uninstalling any of the AT&T prepaid system components. Many of the system components can not be removed or replaced with other versions until their dependencies are replaced or removed as well. Titanium Backup once again comes in handy and lets you select an android ID or "profile" which is a UID that is tied to your Google Play / Android Market account. You will have to create a new random Android ID after you have have replaced all the apps. Make sure you remove any files like Twitter that have been specially made for this phone & include a long unique ID like Twitter-3-6-0-(123456)--00000_V300_001.APK - the phone is incredibly fast without any google or ATT stuff on it.
