I am trying to play my video from my SGS3 to my smart tv. When playing a video while on the same wifi as my tv, there is a little icon at the top of the screen on the phone that allows you to pick your display. When I pick the "Smart TV" display, the video is sent seamlessly to the tv. However, I am having a problem with orientation. Videos downloaded to my phone are perfect, but videos I record from my phone are not. A video taken in portrait mode shows up on the tv sideways, and a video taken in landscape mode shows up upside down. It displays normally on the phone. Anyone have any ideas?
Another question: Does anyone know what needs to be installed for this to work? I'm guessing it uses dlna via allshare, but when i put a custom rom on the phone, I no longer have the option to send the video to the tv.
FYI: For those of you that do not have a smart tv, but do have pc or something else running XBMC, you can also use this feature, but I'm guessing you have to enable dlna in XBMC. Works great! (Same issues with orientation though)

Use bubble upnp. I'm on stock and I hardly use allshare, in fact I have disabled it and use bubble upnp.

Thanks for the response. I installed bubble upnp and it does the same thing. However, I did take a few more videos and noticed the way you hold the phone matters. If I take the video in landscape mode with the home button on the right, it displays perfectly. If I have the phone in landscape with the home button on the left, the image is inverted when played through upnp, but normal on the device. Also, if the video is done in portrait mode, the orientation is rotated 90°. Is this what happens with you?
Also, if anyone else has any suggestions for upnp apps, please post them here.
Try Twonky Mobile or Twonky Beam, theses are the most reliable for me, with the added bonus with Twonky Beam to be able to send any video from the web.
Hey guys
For you that are using this on your tv, which adapters are you using?
How well does it play 1080p HD mkv files over hdmi to your tv? I'm not sure how the resolution would work for this to a 1080p TV.
You can get a Samsung wired hdmi converter on ebay for about $10. Or the allshare wireless dongle for about $40 or $50. Keep in mind if you root the Allcast dongle will no longer work.

Two times no...
I use a rooted P605 and my Allcast Share Dongle works despite the system status Custom which did not work on my N8000.
I did yet find no wired adapter which works with the P605, either partial, intermittend or no display. And the Samsung store showd no official adapter.
Erstellt mit meinem Note 10.1 2014 LTE
This is the one I had bought previously for my Note 2, which also works on the G Note 14 as well....

Maybe the LTE version works...mine didn't I had to return and exchange it. Even flashing back to stock would not work after I tripped the flash counter

Has anyone tried playing 1080p movies via HDMI to the TV? How does it run? I'm wondering if the movies actually get played at 1080p?

I played 1080p game trailers and movie trailers using an HDMI connection. It plays whatever the source is. One thing to note though. Playing videos with any app other than the default video app does not fill the screen all the way. There will be borders on the sides and top/bottom. It's not horrendous but is noticeable. However if you play using the default video player this gets corrected somehow when being output to the tv.

Great! Just wondering, is there any lag at all when playing 1080p movies. I was watching some videos of the Nexus 10 doing it since its probably the most similar device to ours right now and the reviewer mentioned there is a bit of lag since it has to power the video on both screens. Unless there's a way to turn off the tablet and just let it use the TV as the screen.
Also does the default player support mkv? I don't have my note to test it out right now.
Just make sure to buy the 5 -> 11 pin MHL adapter if using a normal MHL adapter. Just like the Note 2, the standard 5 pin MHL adapter won't work.
Also, don't forget it has to be a powered MHL device.
I have to do the same thing for my GN2 on my Pioneer App Radio. Only I use an adapter.

For videos, you won't notice any lag since you're just watching the video. Not to mention, when using the stock video player app it detects that you're playing the video on a larger screen and shuts down the output on your tablet screen so it's only visible on your tv. For games though, you may perceive a little lag since you're actually controlling what happens on the screen.
I haven't tested playing mkv's on the stock video app on the tablet but I can confirm they play on my galaxy note II so they should work. The only thing is that the stock video app doesn't support all audio codecs so if your mkv file contains dts audio you'll probably run into issues as the stock app won't be able to decode.
Apps like Archos video player (along with the free codec pack) should work fine for playing everything.

The tablet screen stays on during hdmi out and if you turn off the screen it stops hdmi output. The reasoning is that when you turn the screen off you are turning off the digitizer, too. Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to control the device during playback.

Fair enough. But if I want to have 2 hours of constant playback for a movie without having to pause or anything, is there any app that does turn off the screen while its playing other than the stock app? I don't want the same thing to be playing on 2 screens at once. The stock app was mentioned saying that it automatically does turn off the screen while playing back via HDMI, which is cool. Sadly it doesn't play the audio on some of my MKV files cause of the codec, but MX player does. I'm looking to replace my laptop with this if possible to connect to my TV to play movies, but it should hopefully work just as well as the laptop otherwise it isn't worth it. I wouldn't be connecting this to the TV for anything other than movies anyway.

There are a couple schools of thought. Unfortunately I do not know of any way to turn off the screen during playback. However, there are a couple of apps out there which turn off the backlight during HDMI playback. One of which I believe is called screen off which you can find on the Play Store. The other is called tasker which allows you to create a system trigger event task that will do X when Y happens. Some people have said they're able to have the backlight turn all the way down when HDMI out is detected.

Sorry, it doesn't turn the scrim off but it dims the screen quite a bit to where it's hard to tell it's on and does not actually show the video that's being played. I should've been more clear.

Hello, i just switched all my RPI's/OpenELEC combo boxes to the Amazon Fire TV. I was having issues using Gotham 13.1 stuttering during streaming, last night i installed SPMC (spmc-armeabi-v7a_12.4.2.apk) onto one of the boxes and its seems to be better. Will need to watch a few more things to make final judgement. What version is everyone running on there AFTV?
Should i download grade to the first original AFTV firmware then try again?
please advise.
Thanks

The official 13.1 build from XBMC doesn't work properly for me either. The volume cannot be adjusted, it remains at a fixed level regardless of how much it's reduced or raised
So I am looking for something better as well
Please report back with your findings!

I have been using 13.1 for weeks without the issue you are having. How do you have the video acceleration settings? If you dont have MediaCodec turned off, that may be causing it.

Recently I changed from my 2.4Ghz to 5Ghz wifi and the buffering issue is gone now. I do see very rare occasional frame skips, but it is very minor. It visually looks like it drops below to around 25 FPS for about half a second once in a while.
with 13.1 I have choppy playback when viewing xvid files with libstagefright or mediacodec enabled, regardless of software or hardware acceleration ticked. I also have to enable libstagefright for correct playback of anything greater than 720p or a lot of mkv files. (0:00 time/skip issue)
have not gone to helix 14.0 permanently, I tried that about a month ago but it seemed buggy to me.

Xvid files are stuttering or all files?
For sound issue, all files or only files with Dolby digital or DTS.

For stuttering any add-on i use to streaming it stutters.
For sounds i have tried everything setting from 2.0 to 5.1 enabled passthrough or not etc. and any movie or show i play from any add-on. weather its 5.1 or 2.0 its sounds like crap. just on the box plugged directly into the tv...
didn't have either of these issues using the RPI and openelec setup. hoping it all gets fixed.
Thanks
Hey everybody,
I´ve got a little problem with my AFTV (unrooted, newest Amazon Firmware and Kodi dated 23.12.2014).
I configured everything I need and tried a movie from my synology but there was only the movie and no sound.
Trying a Haddon from a local radio station it is the same problem, no sound.
The original FTV, like Instant Video, is working normally.
Do you have an idea, what I can do to get sound working with Kodi?
Thank you
Temporer
*EDIT*
Problem occurs when the AFTV wakes up from standby and affect both systems, AFTV and Kodi.
Need more detail. You don't mention what audio is contained in the file (but you mention an add-on which I'm assuming is 2-ch stereo), what audio device you are sending to (e.g. receiver, soundbar, etc.), and which method (optical or HDMI) you are using for transport.
The sound in the movie is Dolby Digital 5.1 and from the addon it is 2.0.
Sound should go directly via HDMI to the TV.

What audio output settings do you have set in Kodi?
Hi everybody,
problem has been solved by itself.
After a complete power cut, everything is working fine.
Hi everyboby,
problem is still there.
But I have some new information:
- Problem occurs, when AFTV is waking up from Standby (complete AFTV has no sound)
- when I change the resolution from automatic to 1080p 60fps or 1080p 50fps, the sound comes back.
- Changing this setting back to automatic will not cause the problem again.
Any ideas, what exactly causes the problem and how to solve it?
Thank you very much

Hi everybody,
I just tested the AFTV with a Toshiba TV and it is working fine.
I think this must be a problem between AFTV and Philips TV.
Any ideas?

You don't happen to know more about this do you? On my newer smart tv, firmware updates are automatic. But my bedroom aftv is connected to an old-ish tv with no Ethernet*and obviously no WiFi. It does have a usb port and DVD drive. But it's 1080p, good picture and I have little need to upgrade. Except...
I have this one of a kind issue where I need to reboot about 70% of the time before I use it
with aftv. The sound cuts in & out. Reboot fixes it. I was happy when someone showed me fast reboot, an app that simulates reboots but it doesn't work for this one issue. Needs an actual reboot.
Anyway just takin a shot you or anyone might know of a website with a database of firmwares. I'm thinking if it doesn't go online the tv doesn't typically get updates but I don't know.
I have a Samsung LN46A650. To upgrade the firmware, I download it to a USB stick, plug that into the WISELINK port, and follow the menu.
For you, the first step is to determine if there *is* an update.
Post the brand and model?
I have same issue with my Samsung TV ... well it has happened 2-3 times. I fix it by turning off and on the TV.
I believe it may be related to CEC going screwy when the device goes to sleep

I didn't mean to suggest that updating my firmware had anything to do with the issue folks here are having. I don't have the issue, but I routinely check for firmware and software updates on everything I own.
That said, I suppose it's possible, but I consider it very unlikely that CEC would have anything to do with this. Anyone else here have a universal remote that can test that out?

I have the same problem and turning the TV off and on fixes it for me too.
I've had my Fire TV with XBMC for about a year and I didn't have this problem at first. It really seems like a firmware update messed it up.

Same problem is also present on Macbook Air. After waking there is no sound.
Does anybody have trouble screen mirroring or casting with their OP3? I can't seem to connect to my TV, either through casting or wifi direct. I'm using FreedomOS and BlueSpark kernel.
No problem for me...I am casting to a Roku
Using 3.2.7 and EK Kernel. Haven't tried it directly to any if my Samsung TVs.
No issues with my op3. Casted to Samsung TV just fine. However I wish if I could keep my phone screen off while casting still goes on. Does anyone know how?

No issues with OP3 on 3.2.7 while casting directly to Sony TV.
You can try BubbleUPnP or Tubio, both from Play Store. With these, you can stream videos, photos etc with your screen off.
