[Q] Why can't I search for networks - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Phone is working fine, can make and receive calls. On a road trip through some remote areas I noticed there was no signal. Upon reaching area with cell service, my phone doesn't seem to "auto detect" it's back in civilization. Always picks up a signal after a re-boot, but that shouldn't be necessary. I figured I could force it to search for networks instead of rebooting, but when I go to the settings, the options are greyed out.
I'm on my 3rd M8 due to their #$&* build quality, all of them were bone stock (no rooting or ROMS) and all have had the search for network option greyed out.

Turn off "4G!" notification?

Does anyone know how to turn off the "4G!" notification that seems to constantly be there if you have the antenna on and there's no service? I want to leave the radio on as I am constantly moving and go in and out of 4G range throughout the day.
The notification is akin to the wireless network availability notification, except that one has a clear way to be turned off via the wireless network settings.
I am rooted and running the latest stock de-odexed ROM from xHausx.
Here's a screenshot of the notification I'm referring to

I 'could be wrong', but i don't think there's a way to do that right now.

About the only way is to turn off the antenna when your out of range of 4g. You can add a widget to make it a little quicker then going into settings.

Ok the problem which was really annoying me and had almost made me buy another handset was the Network drop issue. My HOX would loose the network randomly and then it would just not connect back. I am sure many of you here in the forum have mentioned this issue. Finally i found a solution for this
So i am the latest stock ROM and above is the version. simply got to
setting>power> and uncheck the "Fast boot" option, restart your phone and your done.( need not necessarily restart the phone). I have not tried this on any custom ROMs. so people on the custom ROM can also try this and report here. Hope this helps
Cheers,

i thought a separate thread with the current ROM on my phone would help others

[Q] No service-insert SIM card on GSM Nexus

I'll occasionally have my phone drop my connection to the network and claim that it has no SIM card inserted. I'll turn off the phone, pull of the back, remove and reinstall the SIM card, and turn the phone back on. Most of the time this fixes the problem.
I've noticed it seems to happen after my phone gets hot (using Google maps navigation, playing Ingress, etc.) I'm not sure if this causes it or not, but it's something that I've observed.
This seems to be happening more often than it used to.
Any ideas on how to prevent this from happening again? I need a reliable phone when I'm on call at work.
Thanks!
