Disabled app eating battery? - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, I'm new to the g3 and am coming from a g2. On the g2 I would always disable Google maps when I wasn't using the navigation and the difference was night and day as I could easily get a full day's use afterward. I know the battery isn't as good on the g3 but after disabling maps and force stopping it not only does my battery still drain quickly but my phone shows around 40% of the drain is coming from maps. Is there any way to fix this issue?

could root and use greenify to hibernate or titanium backup to freeze maps.

I'm not rooted, I get 18 hours a day with 3 to 5 hours screen time. That includes playing flash of clans and boom beach throughout the day.
I don't like how it was launched and the way the carriers are other than that I can't complain hardware wise.

Try uninstalling maps and then reinstall them, that might fix it, it has on other devices. It wont completely uninstall when you select it but it will ask if you want to replace it with an older version. Do that and then go to the playstore and update it again.

You should be able to disable the app after you uninstall the updates. You will have to update it every time you re-enable the app though

Which firmware is on your phone ?

Kitkat has a bug where location is still on even after you disable it, you have to reboot.

[Q] Get Rid Of Google Maps

My phone has had very bad battery life when wifi is on. And after reading online, and my own experience, I think the cause is Google Maps. Is there a way to automatically kill it after it stops, like some sort of task killer app?
Whenever I use my task killer, it shows google maps running, even after I killed it.
I don't even understand why google maps automatically runs, or why it needs to use any of my wifi...
Also, my phone is not rooted, nor will I be rooting it until the warranty expires.

First of all, I've said it a lot and I'll say it again:
just because an app appears in the running list, doesn't mean that it is actually using processing power, thus draining the battery.
So, I really doubt that if you haven't signed in to Latitude (which means location updates every so often), Google Maps is doing any harm to your battery.
You probably don't believe me anyway, so I'll just move on to my next answer:
NO, if you are not rooted, you can't remove Google Maps, it's a system app, part of the Google Services Framework, the backbone of Android OS.
Is there a way I can have an app automatically kill it as soon as it starts? And it seems that Google Maps is the only thing that could be possibly taking up my battery. Losing 4% an hour on standby is not normal.

If you were to use an app to kill it as soon as it starts, it would try again and again to restart and that's where you would definetely see the drain.
When you go to Settings->About Phone->Battery Use, do you actually see Google Maps in the stats? And if yes, how much percent of the battery does it say there that it takes?
And 4% in an hour could be due to many, many things.
Check out this thread to help you find out more about your issue.
Freeze it with titanium, unfreeze when you want to use it. That's what i do,.
as i know, maps service is only location by using gps,so go to location n security setting, turn off "use gps satellites",if its still running, use iridaki advice-ignore it,it cant eat your battery!!

Google maps is not in the battery usage, unless I open maps and use it.
The things that are using that battery are : display, cell standby, phone idle, wifi, android os, android system.
But if I turn wifi off, the battery drain problem goes away :S
I will download betterbatterystats and use it, will post on how it goes.

[Q] Google Services Draining Batery

Dear Community!!!
So Days ago i upgrade my Xperia ZL to kit kat, everithing ok a couple days, fantastic.....but, was suddenly my phone without battery, the problem? google play service was draining the 85% to my battery. When i upgrade to 4.3 firmeware i had the same trouble and then i maked to flash again. Also, this time i just did a factory reset and then everithing ok a couple days... but again, suddenly, google play service is draining all life to my phone...So, somebody knows whats the problem anda what can i do (whitout flashing again)... thanks buddies
The issue is a location wakelock, there are two ways around it disable location if you don't use it, or disable Google now.
If you are rooted, u can uninstall the Google search app from system and reinstall it from play store

you have an option in settings to disable location
since you are rooted, look for "wakelock detector" and "disable service" in play store,
'wakelock detector' will tell you what apps or services are causing it, and then u can disable that particular service using the 'disable service' app
Thanks a lot

A lot of thanks Xyge... I download the app than you sugest and AppOps to remove permissions at Google Search, especifically location and screen awake... apparently works better and services not drining the battery... Again XYGE thanks a lot

I discovered something else.
I reinstalled my Phone again with Android 4.4.2. I installed all my apps. Using the Google Now Launcher.
Batterie consumptions seems normal. I see wake locks but acceptable.
But when driving to home from work I used Avertinoo (A radar notifying application that uses GPS). At home I closed the application. But suddenly I saw that the phone stays awake all the time. And Google Service is responsible for 86% of battery consumption.
Only solution, restart of the phone.
I did several test with this application. A short usage of the application does not seem to trigger the problem.
I did a test with Navigon (Navigation software) and I got the same problem.
So I think any application using the GPS for to long, will cause a problem with the Google service (endless loop due to time out ?).

Instead of disabling location, setting the location mode to "device only" was enough for me.

it's actually a wakelock, whenever an app requires the phone to be awake(say use gps) it sets a wakelock until some condition is satisfied(as u said endless loop), point is its not due to time out but some weird issue that is coming up with the google apps of our particular device....that's why a restart solves it or at times it may not occur for hours of usage of an app and next time it may occur after a minute.
the disabling of services or location is a temporary solution right now.
I tried to clean up all google apps in system and install the latest gapps and odex them.....until now i havent seen any battery issues(in fact usage is not even visible).....i'll report the findings after a fair usage so i can be sure if it does fix the issue.
I uninstalled Google Search from system and installed from the Playstore, then disabled location reporting and my battery seems to go to normal draining

you don't have to uninstall or install anything
just go to sittings\ security and disable Google reporting
that's all
a little update is coming
On PTCRB there is a new Version certified .233
Maybe this will fix the battery draining.
http://www.ptcrb.com/vendor/complete/view_complete_request_guest.cfm?modelid=22622
I was having this draining problem (happened out of nowhere, a full week after installing the 4.4.2 update).
Uninstalling Google Search and reinstalling it through the Play Store didn't worked (kept having Google Services draining more than 80%).
Setting Location mode to GPS-only didn't worked neither. Turning location off worked, but disabled my location-based apps, has expected.
What did worked for me was going to Setting -> Location-> Location Services (Google Location Report) and disabling both Location Report and Location History.
Now Google Services DOES NOT DRAIN more than 2% of my battery. CPU usage is always low (using CPU Spy Reborn, the 1512 MHz frequency step is pretty much around 2 - 3% of the time, as is the 1026 MHz frequency step - the remaining frequency steps are all at 0 - 1%, with 384 MHz (the lowest step) at 52% and Deep Sleep at 34% of the time).
All this with Location active on high-precision mode. Roughly 5h10min of usage (LTE always on), with PowerAmp playing for more than 4h straight, around 55min screen on and 15min or so of gaming (Zombie Gunship), and the battery is still at 72%.
With 4.3, with the same level of usage (moderate to heavy, I guess) the battery would absolutely be on the 60-65% range.
In other words, disabling both Location Report and Location History worked for me, with zero downsides with regards to location based apps (Google Maps, Waze and GPS Essentials all work perfectly).
Hope this helps. Best regards.

Insane battery drain from Google play services

For some reason Google play services is keeping my phone awake all day. This started happening after the 5.1.1 update. I even did a factory reset when I updated. All the fixes I found online require root.. Anyone have a solution?
a good ap to save battery power is called battery doctory.
Google Play Services (which I will abbreviate as GPS) began sucking a lot more battery than usual on my phone as of a week ago. GPS updates automatically and silently install without your knowledge every few weeks. Occassionally, they introduce a bug and everyone's phone begins freaking out, seemingly like magic. I think the latest version may have some sort of bug, but it's hard to tell for sure.
First, what version of GPS was installed on your phone? Go to settings-applications-all-Google Play Services and look at the version number under the app name.
The latest version is 8.3.00.
One way to see if the app version is bugged is to uninstall the updates and see if the battery life improves. With updates uninstalled, your Google apps will basically be useless though. This technique isn't fool proof though, because at any time, GPS may update itself again. This also means that you can't downgrade, because the app will update without your knowledge.
Try uninstalling updates to see if your battery improves. If it does, try using it like normal until GPS updates itself. At that point, battery drain should kick up again.
PS: Are you using any Android Wear?

net_scheduler wakelock draining battery

Hi, I created a thread about battery drain I have been experiencing for few days. I managed to find 1 wakelock - net_scheduler from google services. Anyone else experienced this wakelock and managed to get rid of it?
TY in advance
I have all converted to google dialer contact cal calc everything I had on battery 24 hrs and it only used 16% screen was at like 18-20% at close to a half hr give or take a few min screen on time and I was in a place most the day was cutting from no service to roam to 3g and to lte all while was at work my battery was at about 78% from full charge 24 hrs ago so I don't think I have seen this problem now u could try a clean install of a ROM and it may be all u need a good full wipe
Edited
I also for got to say I also use Naptime it help a bunch as far as battery and making things in deep sleep so help with drail on battery
i got rid of this issue after deleting UserData /Internal SD and fully reinstalling my system.
There must be an easier way though ^^
I managed to solve this issuue. It was google play services that kept waking my phone up. Installing older version fixed that issue.

Which old version did you install that's not plagued with this dreadful wakelock issue? I'd appreciate if you shared the version number
I downgraded to 9.2.56 but didnt stay with this version for too long as i couldnt use google keep and i had no notifications from gmail. Im using 9.6.83 and i think the net_scheduler wakelock is gone but cant say it for sure as im constantly using it.
I'm positive it's the Google Play Services. Had the 9.6.83 before and it drained my standby of 30+ % of 7 hours bed time.
I uninstalled it and went back to the 9.2.56 / restarted / and updated it back to the 9.6.83 again / It's been back to normal for couple of days now.
Seeing this problem on all android phones of the people I know.
To fix this:
First install the latest version: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-services/google-play-services-9-8-75-release/
Then erase google play services data and then restart the phone. That´s all.
Worked like a charm on my Nexus 5 also! Thank you!
Thanks for the tip. Just installed 9.8.75 and will see how it works out.

Android OS wakelock

Hello everybody.
I have recently rooted my phone to try and identify the cause to my fast battery drain, which is primarily from the Android OS process.
I can't seem to find it. I see that the process "system" is working a lot and that the Android OS is awake for way to long.
Maybe you guys can point out something I'm missing here.
I would appreciate every help from you !
Thx

This really could be anything. I recently had this and experimented for days whenever I took a break. For me, it turns out that it was my work's wifi hotspot making my phone stay awake to stay connected. I turned off wifi and it was fixed. But this isn't a solution. I ended up connecting to my own wireless repeater and problem was gone.
Bottom line is you'll have to figure out what's going on yourself.

I'll tell you what I've done for battery life on my phone and maybe on of those will fix your problem.
1. Uninstall stock bloat (only the stuff actually running in the background; no need to remove stock launcher ect.)
2. Disable Wi-Fi scanning when wifi off
3. Use Amplify to limit wakelocks and alarms
4. Freeze the apps you don't regularly use. I have a titanium backup widget on my homescreen that will unfreeze snapchat and launch it. It is the pressed again to freeze it after use.
5. Greenify apps you don't want running in the background for no good reason. If you get the donate version, you can still get GCM notifications so it's win win. For apps that don't have GCM notifications, it will coalesce the notifications so your phone doesn't wake up as often.
6. Make sure you have all logging turned off from the LG hidden menu.
7. If you're on a bad wi-fi network run by work/school, then get the auto disable IPv6 app on the play store.
8. Use the HEBF Optimzer app to prevent Google wakelocks and battery drains.
9. Use PNF Root app on the play store to custom choose how often your phone checks for GCM notifications.
With these changes, I finish the day with around 4 hours of screen on time doing regular things. Don't believe the posts about 7-8 hours SOT because you don't know what they were doing. I once used my phone as a timer while studying and had the screen on for 3 hours and only drained 12% battery.
absolutely the same issue here. No luck with factory reset, not using whatsapp or messenger, not using wifi, not using mobile data, no luck with any kind of debloating, uninstalling, installing greenify, amplify whatever. In the end, the Android OS will come back and drain the battery. I've spent a way too much time on this issue.

Try clearing the Google Play Services data, then removing all Google accounts and then adding them back. This time, make sure not to agree to any data collection.
When you turn GPS on, it should show as GPS only in the location settings. Disagree to any prompts.
If your location defaults to high energy GPS and networks, then try flicking the toggle on and off very quickly after you have cleared the play services data. This is how I got the prompt for data collection to come back. It's annoying and you have to always disagree but it fixed my mysterious battery drains from android os.
