Hey guys
It has been about a week I've received my spigen ultra slim case for my nexus 5. I got the smooth white version.
I've been noticing that the back of the case is already full of scratches. Has anyone of you also notice this? It's weird to me because I thought spigen uses durable materials. Fortunately enough the scratches aren't visible thanks to the white case color. You can only notice it when bright light shines on it but it still bothers me.
Now I wonder whether the scratches on a black spigen ultra slim case would be visible or not?
Thx!

It's normal. It's bound to happen to ANY case. The longevity of the case varies with mileage/user/surfaces you're placing it on
I've had a champagne one for a month, if it's scratched up. I hope they died the plastic right thru, so they stay the right color. Cheaper cases seems to black under the color, and show the scratches far worse.
I have the champagne one as well with a few minor scratches but it still looks good none the less.

So both of the cases arrived from amazon today and I have some first impressions on how they fit on my panda nexus 5.... Haven't seen anyone review the ultra slim, and I'm surprised more of you weren't interested in the ultra slim since it maintains the nice hardware of the nexus 5. The only problem with those super slim cases is they really don't offer drop protection, only scratch / ding protection.
Ultra FIT - SUPER slim fit however the case could be tighter around the phone, its not coming out, but the corners of the case can slide off the nexus pretty easily. I love how the original volume buttons and power button are both exposed as they feel great to me. The matte texture is incredibly high quality feeling but leaves finger prints like crazy. I think the white one is probably the way to go (the jury is out on how dirty the black will look due to the texture). Anyways, very classy case, the slim armor is VERY BLOCKY compared to this svelte piece.
Slim Armor - yes the reviews are right, I don't think SPG made these cases properly - I spent 5 minutes trying to get the case fitting without the power button being overly sensitive but at this point its just not useable. If my finger glides over the power button with ANY amount of pressure, it gets triggered. That's just not acceptable to me. Also, the white part of the case is VERY slick, I almost wish SPG would make a slim case in the feel of the black part.
Neo Hybrid users - does the black back finger print like crazy? I'm wondering if its the same texture as the ultra slim.
Pictors for you guys...
...received n5 yesterday and ultra slim armor, notice same problem with power button WAY too sensitive... Doing what little adjustments that are possible(w/o physically modifying the case/button cover) make it only slightly better...
[EDIT]
Also received their ultra hybrid case today. Seems pretty cheap v. the slim armor, and the back(mine at least) ISN'T even remotely clear, try milky. Not happy to start with this one let alone putting it on the n5... the poetic true bumper may be what I end up with...

Yep - and let me guess, your slim armor is white? I wonder if there's an issue with the white plate being too stiff?
By the way, the other case is actually called "ultra fit" - my bad.

Have you removed the 2 protective films on either side of the clear back plate?
This is missed by so many people and without taking them off it gives the impression it is a foggy milky look.
hmm.... i think i might slap a dbrand black leather or carbon fiber on the back of the spigen ultra slim. any thoughts on how that might work?

Do you mean the Ultra Hybrid with the clear back? If so, then that should work fine. The dbrand rep also said that front skins should fit nicely with the Ultra Hybrid, too.
I'm not sure why you'd want a skin if the case isn't clear, though.

No I'm thinking of putting the skin on the case itself on the ultra slim

You could try it? The ultra fit feels very nice.... great texture. Superior to the factory nexus 5 white finish.
again this is the ultra fit...long not theugly ultra hybrid with clear back.

I received the reverse. I got the Slim Armor in black and the ultra fit in white for my black N5. The Slim Armor is going back to Amazon today as it had the power button issue. The Ultra Fit is excellent though. At first I thought it was going to be a bit slippery for grip, but it's actually quite good. Also, as you suspected, the white does not show any finger prints. I don't have any problems with the corners on mine either.

I have a slim armor coming tomorrow... Hopefully I don't need to send it back.
I do currently have a white ultra fit on the phone. The case is great for the most part. I do think the edge near the usb port and speakers is too sharp. I regularly have my finger irritated by that edge. The case also marks too easy. I set the phone in my cup holder in my car and there are permanent scuff marks on the back. It was in there no longer than 10 minutes and did not slide around.

Agreed on that point, no pun intended.

For the record I have the Slim Armor in White with no power button issues.
I can see how it could happen though but most times its not on the device the right way.

I have the slim armor and If i looked at the button to hard it would unlock - that's how freaking sensitive it was. I readjusted the case on the power side and it definitely feels a bit better and less snug, but I still think its too easy.
but i do agree that it might not sit on the button properly - i think it's half corrected the issue in my case
I have Slim Armor, sort of a love/hate thing.
I modified the power button to where I like the feel now, which meant slicing off almost 1/2 mm of rubber on the inside of the rubber button, taking a file to the interior edges of the plastic, and smoothing them so the rubber button doesn't hang up.
The edges around the charging port are super sharp, I usually hold my pinky under the bottom of the phone, and its already sore. I tried filing the edges down a bit to smooth them, but the hard rubber is not giving up.
I have had very good luck with the feebay "s-line" tpu cases, just ordered one with a kickstand. Even though they are some of the cheapest cases around, they are very grippy, not very bulky, and who doesn't love a kickstand? Surprisingly they also are pretty good as far as drop protection.
I have the Slim Armor and it's also a love/hate thing. The power button annoys me... I don't ever get my confident on/off press. Sometimes it's firm and I know it was pressed and sometimes it's soft and not sure. What high quality case that's similar to the slim armor do you guys recommend with a solid build? Thanks guys.
Just received the Ringke Fusion case which I ordered a few weeks ago from Amazon. I actually ordered it launch day for the Nexus 5, but they stipulated that it wouldn't be shipped until around November 6th.
Overall I'm very happy with the case, nice build quality, especially the matte black finish. The clear backing was nicely protected with a film on both sides, so no damage upon receipt. I used the Ringke Fusion for the Nexus 4 as well, but the Nexus 5 version seems more refined in design and matches the Nexus 5's aesthetics a bit more. The Spigen Ultra Hybrid case is obviously the closest comparison, but I prefer the less pronounced buttons on the sides as well as the slightly more rounded form.
The case also comes with a template card for you to place on images and make your own inserts for behind the back cover (which i can't see most people using, but its a nice thought).
Only real issue with the case comes from the fact that the back is clear, and any dust which gets between the plastic and the black back of the phone is very visible.

Does the case come with a glass screen protector? or do I need to buy it separately?

Nope, thats not a glass screen protector that's the template for making paper backings

Do you know if a glass screen protector works with this case?
Don't you have some "watermarks" on the clear back?

The case shouldn't interfere as long as the screen protector doesn't go to the extreme edge of the actual glass. I'm currently using a screen protector that is only about 0.5mm from the glass edge and there no case/screen protector contact or bubbling.

Waaaay less than the Nexus 4 one, and only a few specks near each corner. Not a real turn-off

I actually ordered both, and use the Spigen version for the reason you don't. I like the better defined buttons on the Spigen Hybrid.
I ended up ordering 6 cases and the Spigen Hybrid is my favorite I use every day. Just be sure to peel the almost invisible shipping film from both sides of the clear case.

With my N4, my go to case is the Rinke Fusion and the first gen at that! Anyone who had the first gen release knows that the buttons were hard as nails and have virtually no feedback. I lived with it, and got used to it, but in the back of my mind, it's a flaw and I know it lol.
Now with the N5, I looked at the Fusion, but because of my personal experience with the first gen fusion case, I opted for the Spigen. It was personal preference actually. I prefer the button layout, even though the power button is pretty sensitive. I like the more "squared" look of the Spigen's back side compared to the Fusion as you pictured in the OP. Not knocking it at all. The fusion looks nice, but my grey Spigen is my current go to. However saying that, I am awaiting the white candygel Spigen case and I'll see how that works. And IMO resembles the fusion a bit lol.
I have this case and love it. I photocopied the barcode on my gym card and stuck it under the case so I don't have to take out my keys when I go to the gym. Works perfectly.
hi, I've got spiegen case and the rinkge. I prefer ringe because it's thinner, it doesn't rub off the screen protector as the spiegen. The transparent back it's hard to scratch, spiegen was so soft and in two days looked hoffible. I don't like only one think and it's on the transparent back I've got two cyrcle..and I don't know why..Does anybody have the cyrcle like me??? Tnx

I'm pretty sure that's cause you still have the 2 protective layers on the plastic still, I remember seeing 2 circles when i first took it out of the box
Hi,
So I have the white N5.
I have now bought 2 cases for it from Spigen.
I started with the Ultra Fit Smooth White. I liked the case, and it's feel, but it did not show the nice N5 back.
So I bought the Ultra Fit Crystal. The looks better because it shows the back of the N5, but it attracts finger smudges like crazy !
In addition, I installed the screen protector that came with both cases, same issue, fingers all over.
So my search is still on, I'm looking at the Ringke Fusion and I'm wondering if the clear back will cause me the same issues.
Do you guys know of any cases that are clear but in a matte or smooth finish.
Thanks,
:good:
Did anyone try both of these and can tell if the high floss clear case worth buying ?
Does the gloss clear protects at all as the Matte back?
By the way, does the back matte white turns yellow?
FYI some guy on androidcentrals forums posted pics of it
link
woah thx for the info =)
posted there a question as well, and yet i want to hear what people in here have to say
From my experience, clear TPU cases tend to turn yellow fairly quickly even in very clean environments.
With that said, I'm using the Diztronic matte black case and absolutely love it.

well i have searched and read about these clear cases including diztronic clear case and saw
some people say their case became yellow.
I guess ill go on the black one although its kinda disappointing.
My new white nexus is on his way buy he will never show its true color nor its "Nexus" brand in a black case.
What about a smoke grey case? will it be available soon?
and if not... what other GOOD choices do i have?

This yellowish colour is not about dust or dirty environments, but about UV, which degrades the material.
But it is often doped to avoid this (that's why old computers used to turn yellowish but not the new ones).
i guess im not gonna buy the gloss one, but are there any alternatives so the white color will be seen? or ill just buy the black matte?
Hi
this yellowish problem is a matter of worry for sure...in that case you can go up with Matte Back...but as far my experience I use white snap on case with kickstand for my N5 and it works very fine..the grip on the phone is very fine and there is no issue of even getting that yellowish thing also...I got it from Fommy a re seller website...you can also check out their may be you find it a better one you are looking for...its a snap on with kickstand for Nexus 5
Thanks !!!
does it make the phone much fatter? >:
I currently have the Spigen Slim Armor and I really like the armor material, I was wondering if there was a case (white) with similar feel/material like the ones in Spigen Slim, been looking can't find any white hard cases around
Well there is the nilkin frosted armor it comes in several colors, white included. I used the white one with my old Xperia T and rhe feel in the hand is awesome, light and sturdy. The only problem it's that it will get yellow over time.
I also have the spigen ultra fit in white, IDK Do you know if these cases get yellow as well?
