[REVIEW] Ringke Fusion for Nexus 5 - Nexus 5 Accessories

Just received the Ringke Fusion case which I ordered a few weeks ago from Amazon. I actually ordered it launch day for the Nexus 5, but they stipulated that it wouldn't be shipped until around November 6th.
Overall I'm very happy with the case, nice build quality, especially the matte black finish. The clear backing was nicely protected with a film on both sides, so no damage upon receipt. I used the Ringke Fusion for the Nexus 4 as well, but the Nexus 5 version seems more refined in design and matches the Nexus 5's aesthetics a bit more. The Spigen Ultra Hybrid case is obviously the closest comparison, but I prefer the less pronounced buttons on the sides as well as the slightly more rounded form.
The case also comes with a template card for you to place on images and make your own inserts for behind the back cover (which i can't see most people using, but its a nice thought).
Only real issue with the case comes from the fact that the back is clear, and any dust which gets between the plastic and the black back of the phone is very visible.

Does the case come with a glass screen protector? or do I need to buy it separately?

Nope, thats not a glass screen protector that's the template for making paper backings

Do you know if a glass screen protector works with this case?

Don't you have some "watermarks" on the clear back?

The case shouldn't interfere as long as the screen protector doesn't go to the extreme edge of the actual glass. I'm currently using a screen protector that is only about 0.5mm from the glass edge and there no case/screen protector contact or bubbling.

Waaaay less than the Nexus 4 one, and only a few specks near each corner. Not a real turn-off

I actually ordered both, and use the Spigen version for the reason you don't. I like the better defined buttons on the Spigen Hybrid.
I ended up ordering 6 cases and the Spigen Hybrid is my favorite I use every day. Just be sure to peel the almost invisible shipping film from both sides of the clear case.

With my N4, my go to case is the Rinke Fusion and the first gen at that! Anyone who had the first gen release knows that the buttons were hard as nails and have virtually no feedback. I lived with it, and got used to it, but in the back of my mind, it's a flaw and I know it lol.
Now with the N5, I looked at the Fusion, but because of my personal experience with the first gen fusion case, I opted for the Spigen. It was personal preference actually. I prefer the button layout, even though the power button is pretty sensitive. I like the more "squared" look of the Spigen's back side compared to the Fusion as you pictured in the OP. Not knocking it at all. The fusion looks nice, but my grey Spigen is my current go to. However saying that, I am awaiting the white candygel Spigen case and I'll see how that works. And IMO resembles the fusion a bit lol.

I have this case and love it. I photocopied the barcode on my gym card and stuck it under the case so I don't have to take out my keys when I go to the gym. Works perfectly.

hi, I've got spiegen case and the rinkge. I prefer ringe because it's thinner, it doesn't rub off the screen protector as the spiegen. The transparent back it's hard to scratch, spiegen was so soft and in two days looked hoffible. I don't like only one think and it's on the transparent back I've got two cyrcle..and I don't know why..Does anybody have the cyrcle like me??? Tnx

Impressions of Spigen Ultra Slim and Slim Armor

So both of the cases arrived from amazon today and I have some first impressions on how they fit on my panda nexus 5.... Haven't seen anyone review the ultra slim, and I'm surprised more of you weren't interested in the ultra slim since it maintains the nice hardware of the nexus 5. The only problem with those super slim cases is they really don't offer drop protection, only scratch / ding protection.
Ultra FIT - SUPER slim fit however the case could be tighter around the phone, its not coming out, but the corners of the case can slide off the nexus pretty easily. I love how the original volume buttons and power button are both exposed as they feel great to me. The matte texture is incredibly high quality feeling but leaves finger prints like crazy. I think the white one is probably the way to go (the jury is out on how dirty the black will look due to the texture). Anyways, very classy case, the slim armor is VERY BLOCKY compared to this svelte piece.
Slim Armor - yes the reviews are right, I don't think SPG made these cases properly - I spent 5 minutes trying to get the case fitting without the power button being overly sensitive but at this point its just not useable. If my finger glides over the power button with ANY amount of pressure, it gets triggered. That's just not acceptable to me. Also, the white part of the case is VERY slick, I almost wish SPG would make a slim case in the feel of the black part.
Neo Hybrid users - does the black back finger print like crazy? I'm wondering if its the same texture as the ultra slim.
Pictors for you guys...
...received n5 yesterday and ultra slim armor, notice same problem with power button WAY too sensitive... Doing what little adjustments that are possible(w/o physically modifying the case/button cover) make it only slightly better...
[EDIT]
Also received their ultra hybrid case today. Seems pretty cheap v. the slim armor, and the back(mine at least) ISN'T even remotely clear, try milky. Not happy to start with this one let alone putting it on the n5... the poetic true bumper may be what I end up with...

Yep - and let me guess, your slim armor is white? I wonder if there's an issue with the white plate being too stiff?
By the way, the other case is actually called "ultra fit" - my bad.

Have you removed the 2 protective films on either side of the clear back plate?
This is missed by so many people and without taking them off it gives the impression it is a foggy milky look.
hmm.... i think i might slap a dbrand black leather or carbon fiber on the back of the spigen ultra slim. any thoughts on how that might work?

Do you mean the Ultra Hybrid with the clear back? If so, then that should work fine. The dbrand rep also said that front skins should fit nicely with the Ultra Hybrid, too.
I'm not sure why you'd want a skin if the case isn't clear, though.

I received the reverse. I got the Slim Armor in black and the ultra fit in white for my black N5. The Slim Armor is going back to Amazon today as it had the power button issue. The Ultra Fit is excellent though. At first I thought it was going to be a bit slippery for grip, but it's actually quite good. Also, as you suspected, the white does not show any finger prints. I don't have any problems with the corners on mine either.

I have a slim armor coming tomorrow... Hopefully I don't need to send it back.
I do currently have a white ultra fit on the phone. The case is great for the most part. I do think the edge near the usb port and speakers is too sharp. I regularly have my finger irritated by that edge. The case also marks too easy. I set the phone in my cup holder in my car and there are permanent scuff marks on the back. It was in there no longer than 10 minutes and did not slide around.

I have the slim armor and If i looked at the button to hard it would unlock - that's how freaking sensitive it was. I readjusted the case on the power side and it definitely feels a bit better and less snug, but I still think its too easy.
but i do agree that it might not sit on the button properly - i think it's half corrected the issue in my case
I have Slim Armor, sort of a love/hate thing.
I modified the power button to where I like the feel now, which meant slicing off almost 1/2 mm of rubber on the inside of the rubber button, taking a file to the interior edges of the plastic, and smoothing them so the rubber button doesn't hang up.
The edges around the charging port are super sharp, I usually hold my pinky under the bottom of the phone, and its already sore. I tried filing the edges down a bit to smooth them, but the hard rubber is not giving up.
I have had very good luck with the feebay "s-line" tpu cases, just ordered one with a kickstand. Even though they are some of the cheapest cases around, they are very grippy, not very bulky, and who doesn't love a kickstand? Surprisingly they also are pretty good as far as drop protection.
I have the Slim Armor and it's also a love/hate thing. The power button annoys me... I don't ever get my confident on/off press. Sometimes it's firm and I know it was pressed and sometimes it's soft and not sure. What high quality case that's similar to the slim armor do you guys recommend with a solid build? Thanks guys.

Found my case finally - very minimalist

Let me state it 1st, I like my N5 naked. It really feels good in my hand, but the hard reality of the world is I will drop it, again. 1st time I was sitting on a chair and put the phone on my leg and I said to myself, take it off your leg because when you stand it it will fly off. And boys and girls what did I proceed to do? You guessed it, I stood up and the phone hit the concrete floor on the right corner and kind of popped open. I squeezed it shut and no harm. Anyway, after that I had been looking for a case and bought I think 3 others. They were all thin and 2 with the clear backs and 1 without, but they all added too much bulk and worst of all for me was the fact when I actually used the phone, something sharp would rub my ear and drive me crazy.
So, I had the following criteria; minimal, no top and bottom covering and had to raise the phone up slightly when I put it down on its face.
Well, the new release Ringke Slim going for around $7.99 is perfect for me. I covers the corners so if I dropped it I feel it would absorb the blow. It's raised just a little so when I lay it down it is off the surface. It has no top and bottom so does not hurt my ear and its cheap! I would of paid pretty much anything for a really good case, but I found it for cheap. I still have to put my glas screen protector on, like I say I really like it naked, and with that on it should be pretty safe.
I can't really see anything being thinner, except maybe just a bumper, but I have not seen one I like. I will be leaving the Slim on my phone.
It's a great case for those of us who like a more professional look with a minimalist form factor and the feel of the naked N5 back with an added grip factor. I'm with you
There is a similar case that's cheaper and believe it or not thinner, albeit minor. Bear Motion. I have 2 and while they are slightly thinner and have very smooth edges unlike the stock rearth slim, they are very slippery in the hand. Too slippery for me.

The spigen ultra fit and ringke slim are both good minimal cases. You can't go wrong with either.

Thanks for the additional case suggestions, I'm going to investigate the Bear Motion. I could not imagine slimmer but the slippery factor may be an issue. The slim is not as nice, to me, as the naked back, but not bad in terms of grip.

Yeah when it is new you are correct. How long have you had it? Reason I ask is because after your finger/hand oils get on the case it then becomes very grippy like rubber. At least that has be my experience.
I'd also imagine it can be dependent on where you live and the weather. If it's cold and dry this case could have a little slip to it.
NX5
The Ringke Slim is a terrible case. It scratches the device, sharp corners all over it. Do not recommend it unless you want to scratch your phone.

Yes ultra fit is too tight that it scratches the phones corner
I'm not quite sure it would protect your phone from a drop. There was a post on here not to long ago with a cracked nexus 5. In the picture it was wearing the spigen ultra slim which is very similar to the ringke. The glass screen was cracked at the bottom where it took full force of the fall because there was no protection there.

It's the best case I've used so far. Highly recommended if you want a case that doesn't take away from the look and feel of the N5. I've taken the case off and on over a dozen times and I have no scratches at all on my phone corners. As for the sharp corners of the case, about 30 seconds with a nail file takes care of it

Sure it does. It depends on many factors. How high it drops from, how it lands, what it lands on, etc....
This is a minimalist case with form factor, scratch resistance, and looks as the priority. Not drop protection. If one wants strong drop protection then this case is NOT the one to buy. One should then purchase a thicker bulkier 2 or 3 piece "fat case" like an otter box or similar.

Not everyone has the scratch problem like you guys have had. I have a Ringke Slim and have never had it damage my phone, and I quite like the case. I also switch between different hardcases often and there are no scrapes in sight.
Also, it's unfortunate dice that you damaged your phone from your drop with a hardcase case on it. But don't criticize a person for recommending one because his good experience differed from yours.
It seems you've got some personal vendetta and drive to go into every hardcase thread and badmouth them.

Are you using a White or a Black Nexus? I have a feeling that the sides of my white one will end up getting damaged over time with this case, just because that's how glossy stuff is... Regardless, thanks for mentioning the case and it's nice to hear that the interior is matte. I just wish that there was a case similar to the 360 Spigen case that covers the top and bottom as well, and is matte on the inside.
But for now, i guess the Ringke will do.

I do have the black N5 and the black case, on the black phone you almost have to take a 2nd look to see it has a case. I do like the way on a white case the white would show on the top and bottom. You may be right but, the rubbing of just the day to day may be enough to wear it down. Well good luck in finding a case and let us know what you decide on.

I think I'll have to just settle for this one, as every time a company creates a minimal case such as this (like Incipio's feather line), they will always leave the top and bottom exposed.
I'm slightly concerned regarding the buttons being exposed, but I'm sure that since Google has a rev. 2 variant with better buttons, any issues I come across during the warranty period will be addressed.
I remember with my HTC EVO I had left that it in a Seidio Surface case which wrapped around all sides and it still got dents/scuffs/scratches just sitting in the case because of small bits of dirt or something would slip in. Oh well, such is life

Liked and subscribed for no other reason than the Last of the Mohicans soundtrack playing in the background. One of my favorite soundtracks.
I agree with your assessment on the UAG. I was not impressed with its quality, fit, and finish, especially for a $40 case. It's really a $17 to $19 case. I am rocking a cheap case currently, similar to the Spigen but just a TPU case.

What did you end up getting?
I just got the Spigen, because I was happy with this case on previous phones. I'm disappointed by this case for 3 reasons:
Gap at fingerprint button and camera openings allow dust and dirt to get underneath case
Back of case is very slippery because the edges curve in
Back plastic makes direct contact with whatever surface you put phone on. So the back will get scratched as it slides around.
I'm thinking of getting the Ringke, but Amazon reviews state dust gets in from the back openings (like the Spigen) and it's loose on one side. I guess the curved back of the G6 is the reason. The opening for the fingerprint sensor is not chamfered on the Ringke. The Spigen cutout is chamfered and smaller. Using the fingerprint sensor is comfortable and precise on the Spigen. The Ringke has TPU feet on the back corners, so it won't slide on a surface and the back plastic won't get scratched. I like how the Ringke comes in smoked black, whereas the Spigen is only available in clear (which will yellow eventually).

So I went with the Ringke Fusion ink black with clear back and it does get dirt and debris around cutouts. I should have gone with the smoke back because the clear is a fingerprint magnet. I'm constantly wiping the back off as it looks horrible with all them smudges on it. But besides that it's an ok case. But I am in search of a new case as I'm tired of this one now lol.

Spigen is the best one.
Went with Poetic for corner protection & price
I used to like clear case, but overtime they turn yellowish
Best clear case for LG G6. UAG vs Spigen vs Poetic vs Ghostek
I loved my Spigen case. It has fit precisely on my LG G6 and provides ultimate protection.
I loved the feel of my Spigen case, but it's definitely a finger print magnet and yellowed over time, and it picked up blue from my jeans, so it's a mess. I wish they had the same case available in solid colors or at least tinted. I moved on to a Spigen thin fit hard shell case for now. No more clear cases for me.
I will suggest Spigen cases for LG G6 .

Slim (very slim) case

Broke the rear glass
Top-right corner is totally broken and there's a crack thru the whole glass.
At the moment I put some silicon on the corner to avoid pieces of glass from falling, but I need now a case, a very very very slim one.
Bought one from Amazon that was supposed to be slim but... the problem is that the cover on the two longer sides is too high, meaning it is higher than the white aluminium side. Not sure I can explain...
I'm looking for the slimmest and thinnest case that just covers the back and not much on the sides.
Any help?
Thanks

I had this one and it was the thinnest I could find. The only real protection is on the back of the phone which proved to be what I needed most. It finally cracked one morning I woke up from my couch and did a full stretch putting my phone into my ceiling fan on high. The case initially took a little get used to due to me being accustomed to the excellent grip from the cloth official Google case. In short, is worth the price, absolutely! Would I buy again, No.
I know this one, too thick and on the sides is too high

That's what I have and it's really thin
This is an extremely thin case but not cheap. I have it and it super nice.

Practically identical, and may be exactly what you're looking for. I have both, and love them.

+1 to this. My favorite case, but it scares me to carry it sometimes. Super nice, super thin. Don't imagine it will protect much though.

By far the thinnest one I've owned and the way it fits around the edges is pretty flush. Fits like a glove and feels good in the hand. Not really good for protection though if you drop it, but more like a wrap to keep it from getting dinged up.
I can post a photo of mine later if you want one.

I'm actually interested in getting this exact case, but in Wine Red. Are there any issues with screen protectors? Would appreciate a photo as well.

I no longer use glass screen protectors, moved to Skinomi(best screen protector I've found so far).
When I did use them, I used curved ones and the case fit EXACTLY to the edges of it. Everything fit like a glove.

Good to know. I also use film screen protectors (currently using a Sparin one, as the Spigen was sold out at the time) as they don't have the issues that tempered glass ones suffer with curved screens.

Question Outer/Cover Display Screen Protector

Can anyone recommend a tempered glass or other quality screen protector for the outer cover display? Something that you've personally used and can vouch for.
Thanks in advance!
Same. Front protector scratched on me 1st day. Also peeled up when I was opening. Need to replace.

Yep. Mine was basically destroyed on day 1 with normal use.
Whitestone has a ez screen protector and also a liquid adhered protector. I have installed ez one without trouble since a few days before official release and it's still holding strong. You also get 2 for like $10 so you can't really beat it

Looks like it might have trouble fitting properly if used with a case. The black border looks problematic. Have you used it with a case and, if so, do you have any pics or comments on that? Thanks.
I'm trying to figure out the best front screen protector as well. I would prefer tempered glass but have only seen a couple and not in stock at the moment. Still have the stock one on it but it's starting to bubble and peel/Crack on the sides.
I'm using these white stone dome front tempered glass screen protector. I got two of them for $10. They work decent with a case. But make sure it is a minimalistic case like the Samsung carbon fiber.

I am currently using samsungs silicone case and there is no problems with it coming off. Have not tried with a heavy duty case but I honestly don't see it as a problem
I got my leather case (samsung one) today and love it. However as soon as i applied it the cover screen plastic protector came off in the edge so i just removed it.
since it seems pretty thick on the inside - is there any 9h glass available yet which fits with the case? Or can i go to a samsung store and they reapply the plastic one on the cover screen?
i dont mind paying
I'm using the Whitestone glass screen protector. NOT the EZ. I've used it on all my phones since it was first released, including I Note devices and the Z Fold 2.
I use this for Extra protection
Whitestone Dome Glass UV.

I'm waiting on these to get delivered to me today actually. The stock one on my front screen is starting bubble and peel up on the side. My case kinda covers it up but the stock one is also picking up quite a few scratches. Hopefully these will do the job. Isn't that easy to fine a good tempered glass screen protector for this device. Spigen looks to be coming out with one but not available yet.

I had Spigen EZ for front screen and it is crap. Peeled off next day and applied Whitestone Dome.

Hmm, not sure what that one is. I haven't seen a front screen protector from Spigen anywhere. The one I was referring to is the one below, which is the only one on their site and doesn't appear to be out yet since it says coming soon.
Galaxy Z Fold 3 Screen Protector GLAS.tR Full Cover Glass + Hinge Film
Shield your Galaxy Z Fold 3 with our premium tempered glass full cover Screen Protector. The Full Cover Glass screen protector is the ultimate solution for screen defense to ensure a flawless fit with seamless case compatibility.

Yeah, exactly this one. My mistake I wrote EZ.
In UK is available from Amazon.
Anyone got a recommendation for a good case? Id normally use Spigen but some of their case prices are ambitious to say the least.

I'm using the Ringke Slim and I really like it. I ordered the Spigen S Pen case, but it won't ship for another week or so. Looks bigger than I'd like, but definitely need something I can switch to when I really need to carry the S Pen and don't want to have it loose in a pocket.
I also ordered the official Samsung Aramid case (which also won't arrive for another week or two). Based on the reports I've read and the pics I've seen, the Aramid appears to be the slimmest case available for the ZF3. I hate bulky cases, especially on a device that's as large as the ZF3, so I'm guessing I'll probably settle on the Aramid for 90% of my daily use.

Thanks buddy, how are you finding the ringke slim? I was keen on that until i read a few amazon reviews mentioning the case had scratched their devices? Have you had any such issue? Would be good to hear if you used the sticky pads and if they are easy/hard to remove.

Great case. No scratches. Not sure how anyone scratched their Fold with this case. You'd have to be pretty damn careless to do that. I used the adhesive strips.
