Hey,
I've tried to update my Kindle Fire HD 8.9 to the newest CM11 version, but I wasn't careful enough to update my TWRP 2.4.4.0 beforehand to the newest version, resulting in a Kindle that is stuck in recovery (TWRP).
I managed to load with ADB the newest TWRP version (2.7) on the device, but I can't seem to be able to install the file from TWRP (it only recognizes the CM11 and Google apps files in the folder, but not the kfhd8-twrp-2.7.0.0-recovery.img file I loaded).
Any chance anyone knows to make this happen so I can get back to using the Kindle?
(unfortunately, I failed to do a backup and I don't want to wipe everything since I have a quite a few files that I won't be able to restore)
Thanks!

It's a bug of prior versions 2.1.1 of TWRP. You can change boot mode in KFU. I urge you to flash new version of FFF as well as TWRP for ease of your life. Just select them in KFU.

should I try updating the fff for now ?

KFU is "Kindle Fire Utility" and you are running it right now.
It has a "Bootmode" menu. Select it.
You will then see a "Normal" item. Select it.
This will set your bootmode to normal so you don't end up in recovery all the time.
Read this for some basic concepts about how your Kindle Fire works...

When you can get your Kindle Fire to boot normally again, look at this...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500935
At a minimum, upgrade your TWRP to 2.1.1 using the script above. Also consider upgrading FireFireFire to 1.4a.

I flashed the rom in a normal way.
wipe wipe wipe the flash

sr i was mistaken! Now it stuck at the logo! i try kindle fire unbrick ultility but it said device not found
When ever I turn on my kindle fire it first boots up to TWRP v2.6.3.1. Then I have to reboot it to the system. When it finally boots to the system stock 6.3.2 after 5-10 seconds it will turn off and boot into TWRP again. When it is in TWRP it doesn't reboot after 5-10 secs. I've tried using KFU and fastboot/adb command to try to boot it to normal boot. It still reboots. After that I've tried install CM11. After about 2 hours on it it didn't reboot. So I figured I should try a modded stock 6.3.2, but that still reboots after 5-10 secs.
Any ideas on how to fix? I can't seem to figure it out even after reading Kindle Fire For Beginners.

I'm having the same problem. In my case, the cause appears to be the 6.3.3 OTA trying to flash, but it fails. I've yet to figure out how to prevent it from trying.

I don't recommend using KFU once you have a working TWRP.
Use a TWRP installable bootloader (zip file) like [bootloader][05-26] FFF 1.4A bugfixes + new look + recovery boot [.zip file size]

I guess I'll probably use a custom ROM then. I had permanent root with super user installed a while back from KFU . What would happen if I updated? Would that brick my KF? If I did update I could always re-flash it with a lower ROM/custom rom with TWRP, correct.

Wait I'm a bit confused. You will lose the recovery and the bootloader once you upgrade? I thought the the recovery and bootloader were stored on a separate partition so even if you upgrade your ROM, losing your root won't affect your separate partitions. Also from reading your post in the other thread, is what I'm experiencing might cause by TWRP since mine is v2.6.3.1 and only 2.2.2.1 can install 6.3.2 stock ROM or its might be caused by what Haus said that OTA 6.3.3 update is causing my reboot.

Yes I have. They're Pretty Helpful
Hello everyone,
I just found my gen 1 kindle fire in a box and was looking at all the roms out today. I got the newest otterx and twrp installed without a problem. I am still in the amazon partition and have been trying to get adb to work before I change to the otter partition. I have windows 8.1 and got the kindle fire drivers v1.3.1000.0 installed. I see the device in adb but it tells me unauthorized and I cant seem to get it to not say that. I tried kicking it into fast boot but that gives me a unknown device(bad address) in the device manager and it wont let me give it a driver. I hope someone can help me out.
Solved By using windows 7 and the correct TWRP version

if the question is 'is adb failure do to wrong partitions' no not likely
Thank you again for your help.
I guess what I am asking is do I need to change the partition type before the adb will not be unauthorized sence I have the otterx twrp installed. I am trying to install the version 2.7.1.0 but I cant figure out how. when i try in fast boot it gives me a unknown error. I still have a rom installed if that helps me I am just not sure how to install the correct version if I cant adb and I can fast boot and I dont see any files on the sd when I go to install in twrp.
if you didn't switch to OtterX partitions yet, see if old rom still boots, if so place OtterX twrp 2.7.1.0. zip on SD card
if you already switched to OtterX partitions, rom is gone
I am stating to think this is not going to work for me. I got the otterx twrp 2.7.1.0 installed and it is no longer unauthorized but now I tried to do a adb push of a apk and it gave me a protocol failure. do you have any ideas on that one?
Thanks

Thanks for all your help, Shadow. I have an old Fire I hadn't touched in a while, which I had flashed years ago and had an old Clockwork recovery on. I updated the recovery to TWPR, I switched to OtterX partition and now can't get adb to recognize the device so I can flash a new ROM. While trying to boot the old ROM (which stalls out from having no SD anymore) the device shows up under Device Manager normally, but booting into TWRP, the Windows 7 driver installation in unsuccessful and it shows up as "Amazon OtterX" under Device Manager with "!". How do I get adb working in order to install new ROM?
Thanks for your help.
