[Q] Home WiFi network - LG Optimus G Pro

I am finding that the threshold for the number of characters in a password for connecting to my home is too high. The password for my home network has 7 characters but when trying to connect the phone’s software requires at least 10 characters to start the process of authenticating. Are there place holding characters that will complete the string with my 7 characters? I have already tried 0’s, and I do not care to reprogram all the devices on my home network for one new phone.

Network Coverage Type Icon

Hi Guys
Just replaced my T-Mob Rom with Schnaps 4.31, I used to have a "G" or "3G" icon at the top of the screen to let me know what network coverage type I had.
Since updating to schnaps its just gone to the 2 little arrows you get before you put in ya sim pin, is there a reg hack I need to do so I can see the coverage type?
Cheers
I think a simple reboot should fix it...did you have your phone connected via activesync before this happened?
Yes, but I have rebooted it a number of times now to install new software and such.
Still all I get is the two arrows (not the activesync ones).
Get into the registry, go into this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\
Then delete the value "CellularDataIconOptions".
You will get the normal icons back.
Hmmm went to hunt for that key and I dont appear to have it.
I found it on my Vario 3, guessing thats the key that shows what network type I am on.
I added it to my Hermes, just to see if it would show the network type but I got no change after a soft reset.

Multiple APN support on cooked roms?

Hey,
I have diamond on tmobile usa. I am using blackberry connect and it pretty much locks down the data connection for blackberry use. When i try to run another application like opera, the blackerry connection gets lost and it intiates the tmobile data connection.
I found a thread where you can edit the registry to allow multiple apn's at a time to not lose connection...
here is the info.....
Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\RIL\OperatorContex
There you will find several numbers. E.g. 26202 for Vodafone in Germany.
The number is a combination of MCC / MNC so 262 02. You might find you operator in this list:
http://surfio.de/info/mcc_mnc/mcc_mnc_liste_6.html
What happens is if your operator is not in this list there will be a key created with no contend. I inserted in there by copying from one of the others:
GPRSContextNumber = 3
UMTSContextNumber = 3
This is the source for the value of NetworkContexts in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Cellular\RIL\
Just set the Contexts value to 3 and delete the NetworkContexts entry. It will be created from the source above with the value 3.
I am so happy that I finally found that out. That was such a pain for a long time. Hope that helps some others as well.
Thanks to luiggi who gave me the final hint in his thread:

Now when I do this, once a connection is established and then closed, the network context of 3 automatically goes back to 1 instantly.
Are there any cooked roms that force this always to a setting of 3?
I would appreciate it help on this, because it is so friggin annoying waiting 5 seconds to acquire a connection and lose email at the same time.
thanks

Success: carrier unlock, CID, tether on Optimus 7

I have successfully completed the following:
1. Carrier Unlocked a Telus branded LG E900h Optimums 7
2. Connected the phone to Fido
3. Use 3G on Fido
4. Fixed broken Call Display problem
5. Tethered E900h to laptop
6. Set up Wireless Zune sync
It took some effort time to figure it all out, so I thought I would share my experience to reduce frustration that any others may encounter. Most likely, many of these steps will be similar for other WP7 phones.
Unlocking the phone
Because my local phone unlock guy was closed the day I purchased the Optimus 7, I tried instantunlockcodes.com and purchased an unlock code for $10. I received 2 codes the next day, but neither
worked. I recommend not using this website, as tech support responses were next day, and they were never able to get the code working (after 3 days).
I took the phone to my local unlock guy, who unlocked it successfully. He charged me $65.
For anyone who is trying to unlock the phone, when you insert a foreign SIM, the Optimus 7 asks you for a PIN. This is where you enter the service provider unlock code. When I tried either of
the codes that instantunlockcodes.com gave to me, it said, "SIM ERROR". After looking around on the Internet, it seems that this is the message that comes up when it's the wrong code.
Getting Data on Fido
Telephone/voicemail automatically worked on Fido. To get Data to work (ie 3G) I had to change the APN setting.
Go to SETTINGS -> Cellular -> edit apn
"edit apn" is the button at the bottom of that screen. The settings should be:
APN: internet.fido.ca
User name: fido
Password: fido
Have Data connection ON and 3G connection ON.
Internet now worked for me, including browser and Outlook. Outlook connected to Exchange flawlessly.
Incidentally, the first time I set up my phone, I set up Windows Live immediately (startup wizard), and then Outlook Exchange. My appointments from Exchange were all in bright pink.
Because Windows Live was giving me a sync error, I did a factory reset, and set up Outlook first this time. Now, my Exchange appointments are in red. No idea how to change the color, but I
prefer red. In both cases, the Windows Live account's appointments are in Blue.
Call Display and MMS
Call Display and MMS did not work. Frankly, I don't care about MMS (there is another thread on how to fix this), but Call Display is quite important.
Specifically, Call Display worked when land lines called me, but did not call when most cell phones called me. They would read, Unknown.
The solution to this was through Fido: I had to call them and change my Call Display from "Call Display with Name Display" to "Call Display WITHOUT Name Display". Evidently, this problem has
manifested in other unlocked phones, such as some Blackberries as well.
A point of interest: when I put in the original Telus SIM, the call display also did not work properly. They must have given me Call Display with Name Display as well.
Tethering and Wireless Sync
Tethering is a really handy thing for me. I use it infrequently, but it's really invaluable when I need it.
I've modified the solution that's been posted around, to be specific to Fido, but to clarify a couple of the screens, as well:
1. If you haven't already, install Zune first. While tethering is enabled, Wired Sync on Zune won't work. But Zune has wireless synch, which is way cool anyhow.
2. Set up Wireless Sync on Zune. I won't go into all the details, but basically, make sure that the phone is connected to the WiFi network, that your PC has access to the same network (it can
be hardwired, as long as it has access to the same IP subnet). If you have a guest/work router, make sure that both your phone and PC are on the same network. With your phone plugged in, run
the Wireless Sync wizard on Zune. It's painless.
3. Unplug your phone.
4. Press Phone, and dial ##634#, then press the Call button. This makes visible a hidden app called "MFG". Go to the list of all your apps, and you'll see a new icon with a hammer, wrench and
screwdriver lablelled MFG. Open it.
5. You'll be asked for a password. Enter 277634#*# -- you'll need to enter this password every time you want to go into MFG, which is a good thing, because I think you can seriously mess up
your phone if you play around in there.
5. Go to Engineer -> Port Setting
6. Select the QC COMPOSITE and validate. The phone will automatically reboot.
7. VERY IMPORTANT STEP: This is totally counter-intuitive, but you must go to SETTINGS -> Cellular and turn OFF Data Connection.
Note that once you're done tethering, you need to turn it back ON in order to use Internet on the phone.
8. Connect the phone with a USB cable.
9. Windows will automatically detect the phone, and if you're using Windows 7, will prompt you with a popup with the download link for the LG driver. It says LG CDMA driver, but it works. The
full file name is LGUSBModemDriver_Eng_WHQL_Ver_4.9.4_All.exe
10. Once the drivers are installed, click start, and type "Modem", click Phone and Modem.
11. Click Modems, double-click LGE CDMA USB MODEM, click the Advanced tab.
12. Under Extra Initialization Commands, enter:
+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet.fido.ca"
Replace internet.fido.ca with a different provider APN, if you're not with Fido, obviously.
13. Close the Modems screen, click Start, type "Dial" and click Set up a Dial-up Connection.
14. Enter your home area code because Windows forces you to, and go to the next screen. Then enter as the dialing number:
*99#
Leave the login/password blank. Click connect -- and PRESTO! Tethered Optimus 7.
* IMPORTANT *
Once you're finished tethering, you need to turn Data Connection back on. For some reason, when Data Connection is on, tethering doesn't work. Fortunately, it's a pretty simple toggle to
switch.
I hope that this is helpful!
Thanks for the great info! Just picked up a Telus HTC Surround and was concerned about the CID issue. I'll give this a shot.
You guys paid full pop then for the telus phone?
I'm suprised it costs $65 to get it unlocked...there has to be a way to do this for free...the cheap bugger in me doesn't like to pay for such things!
Yep, paid full at Best Buy. My Samsung Galaxy S just broke last night and I need a smartphone like there's no tomorrow, heh heh. Decided to give a WP7 phone a chance this time.
Yes, I paid $499 CAD + Tax. But, I'm ahead, because I bought an iPhone 4 on renew for $250 or so and sold it BNIB for $960 a few days after release
I have an issue with Text message timing - they are coming through with times that are not the same as my time zone.
UnlockThatPhone.com only 14.99$ and after 18h they send me 2 codes and now I'm so happy
did it work?

Click to collapse
Can you confirm if it worked? The first place I went to was instantunlockcodes.com . It was cheap and DID NOT WORK
I went to my "phone guy", who used another (expensive) unlock service, and it did work Cost me something like $50

Proxy Setting Problem

I am trying to set up on my HTC One M9+ to use a proxy.pac file online.
But when I go to my WIFI network e.g. WIFITesting hold the connected wifi network and choose modify network, scroll down to the bottom, press Proxy and choose Proxy Auto-Config, I expect to see additional option which would ask for my pac file URL, but it doesn't show up. I tried few times even on my HTC One M7, neither of them have this option. And after you choose Proxy Auto-Config, the save button is disabled. So the changes can not be saved.
I am wondering if anyone else have the same problem?
I checked Xiaomi 2S, OnePlus One, they are OK.

How to fetch Phone number

I need to show phone number and network operator name on Dialer app installed on HeadUnit.
I am able to fetch operator name via AG_EVENT registering on BroadcastReceiver.
I could find that via ACTION_LAST_VTAG registering on BroadcastReceiver, we have this EXTRA_NUMBER which can return "phone number" of the connected device.
But this action never gets triggered after the device gets connected.
Am I missing something ?
It was easy.
The AG_EVENT action has an Extra attribute BluetoothHeadsetClient.EXTRA_SUBSCRIBER_INFO. This will give us phone number of the device.
But there is limitation; if at the time of connecting mobile device with Head Unit, if mobile device has no network. We won't be able to fetch phone number nor operator name.
