Bug in restricted profile management - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 Q&A, Help & Trouble

Hello all,
I have a problem with my tab pro 10.1. I created a restricted user for my daughter and gave her access to few apps. When I installed a new game recently and tried to give her access, I couldn't anymore because the menu wouldn't stop switching to the "Enable Google search" tick box option.
Its hard to describe so I made a video to show the behaviour:
Samsung galaxy tab pro 10.1 Bug restricted profile: http://youtu.be/G1W8UOjLVm8
I tried deleting the profile and creating a new one but it didn't fix the issue. I couldn't find anything on Google about this.
Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this, apart from a hard reset?
Thank you.
Sam

Have you tried soft reset? Holding power til it shuts down
Are you rooted?
Have you tried deleting cache?

Hello,
soft reset = no, what are the consequences ? any loss of data or settings ?
rooted = no
deleting cache = no, what are the consequences ? any loss of data or settings ?
Thank you
Sam

I'm not against trying those but I'm not the only user of the tablet, I can't take the risk to delete anything

Hello!
I just saw this thread, because I was searching for a solution for exactly the same problem with my Galaxy Note Pro.
When I saw that you also have the issue that the settings dialog switches to the Google search option, I wondered if Google search had something to do with this behavior.
So I deactivated the app "google search" in the application manager.
After that I finally was able to set up a restricted user and allow this user to use certain apps.
So I thought I should share this finding...
I haven't tried yet, but i think, after setting up the restricted user completely, google search might be reactivated again.
As I don't use the app google search very often, I am not quite sure about the consequences of deactivating and reactivating this app. But I think in worst case some settings may be reset to defaults.
Kind Regards
René

It works ! Dude thank you so much for sharing !

Issue with 'Locations', unable to find current location unless GPS is turned on

I am in need of Android guru assistance. Currently Google Maps app will not update/detect current location and repeatedly request 'Please enable a My Location source in system settings'. Location will only be updated if GPS is turned on (which was not required until this happened)
I have ticked the all the settings under the 'Locations' tab, but still the same occurs. Several apps are affected by this i.e Foursquare (unable to get location), Waze (crash upon launch).
The issue surfaced after I accidentally 'killed' the Maps app using HTC task killer, and tinkered with the Locations Settings under the Maps app.
Tried to return to default values by cross referring to a HTC Butterfly, but problem persist. Anyone has any ideas? Thanks in advance
Device : HTC One X

Unrooted phone
There is an option in settings to reinstall gps service. Setting > location >reinstall
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Hi Vceck,
I've already tried reinstalling as suggested. Problem still persists. Google Maps (and apps relying on its positioning) will not work with solely wifi/mobile network and requires GPS. It's quite a weird one, since I believe GMaps positioning can use wifi. Or am I wrong?

Try dissabling FAST BOOT from settings>power then restart the phone and a message asking permission if you agree that google use your location shold appear
I'm having problems with location too! Today all of the sudden all google apps ask me to enable google location services but they are already enabled and there's just no way to get it working..

Hi internetjlmb,
Already did as you suggested, no change. Thanks for the tip tho'.
Now a grimmer issue surfaces -- the 'Maps' app is draining the battery, crazy fast. Unplugged my phone from charger at7.00AM with minimal usage (two short phone calls, no mobile network / wifi enabled), by 8.00AM battery was down to 91%, with 'Maps' taking up 71% of the usage. Screenshot is attached.
I have to disable the 'Maps' app for the time being as everytime I enable it, battery goes down and phone overheats, I kid you not.
Already sent a feedback to Google, but not hoping for any response. Anyone else knows how to solve this predicament? Just to confirm, whenever we 'tick' the 'Google's location service' under the [Location] tab, should it ask any question such as 'Are you sure?' or anything. Mine just ticked and did nothing.

Hi zodiark,
Same issue here. My Location can only be updated if GPS is activated. Which is a bummer. I don't think GPS is necessar to just update location. Or am I wrong on this?

In my case I have two options to enable google location services. One of them asks me to accept the terms of service of google, but again nothing happens.

Same here. Only the 'Location & Google Search' tab will prompt a question when clicked. I had to disable Maps app due to its excessive battery usage.
Hi,
Anyone with a solution to this? This annoys the heck out of me. Is it a phone or Google settings issue?
Thanks.
Issue with recent Google services update
Having exactly the same problem as described by VDread. Folks over Android Central are reporting similar problems and suggest that the problem is with recent Google update and that google is aware of this and that they are working on it.
I was going to do a factory reset but perhaps I settle for disabling Maps for now.
Hi Kreisi,
Thanks for the info. At least me and Zodiark arent the only one with this issue. This however beckons the question : why only some units affected, as opposed to a global scale issue. Hmm.
I have just realized that I am experiencing the same issue. It could also be responsible for the poor battery life on my phone...
Welcome to the club svucinic811. Hope Google / HTC can resolve this soon

Well it comforts me to see that there are others and that this is Google related, and that they're working on it. It would be more annoying in the long run if this was just another messed up update by HTC and we had to wait for the next one, hoping it will make the phone usable (like it was supposed to be). I do however hope the fix will come SOON -- my phone seems to be awake all the time, all the location-related services are non-functional, the battery life is piss poor.
Svucinic811,
Disable the 'Maps' apps for the time being. That has been draining my phone's battery. That should help alleviate the heavy usage -- as the phone tend to overheat even in sleep mode. Weird error. Reports from Android Central says that a certain folder/data was somehow misplaced by Google when HTC phones are updated. Could be a Sense v Google settings issue.

Thanks, will do and see if it helps. It's not like I care about the stupid Maps anyway...I've had my share of nonsense like this, my next phone will be iPhone or a dumbphone.
Yeah, I've read that thread @ Android Central Forums and that "Network Location" app is in the Downloaded Apps section for me as well.
Same problem here. Can´t get a location and the battery consumption is in the highs!
I had to freeze maps with Titanium Backup for now. Are there other devices being affected by this "bug"? Anyone know if this is google side or HTC side?

Apparently also affecting the One, One S and even the EVO.
Some LG phones are also affected. Could be an issue between Google vs ROM settings.
My phone returned to normal after I disabled the 'Maps' apps. The downside is, I can't use Google Now, Google Maps and any apps thats related to those. Even Waze. Total bummer.
According to Android Central (http://forums.androidcentral.com/an...w-keeps-saying-my-location-service-off-2.html), the issue is the recent Google update caused some data folders i.e Network Locations to appear in user's 'Downloaded Apps' folder instead of the Android system.
Factory resetting wont help either -- most have the issue resurface after several hours of use.
Owh well, the issue turned my smartphone to a semi-smartphone.
I seem to not having this issue..
or that's just me that didn't realize it? -_-
although yea i must turn on GPS to be able to pinpoint my location
even if i want to update current location i need that stupud GPS to be on

App Erasure/Inactive Apps Fix {Prevention Information Error}

So I thought this would be helpful because I spent so much time searching and was not able to find an answer. I will post it here to help others who thought their Note 3 was DOA.
Symptoms:
> Upon installation of an app (seemingly random, until several factory resets later I realized it was the same apps for me) it is greyed out and shows sd card symbol
> Trying to launch app would seize up the device and just black screen and force close
> Regardless of factory reset and uninstalling/reinstalling apps, they suffered same issues (other apps were fine)
> Would periodically see the following message:
"Prevention Information. An application has been forced to stop for an unauthorised attempt to access system on your device. It may be safe to delete an application obtained from an unauthorised route. Check now?"
*NOTE: all apps that I was having issues with were via Playstore, not a side loaded one.
Solution:
> After some research and going on a hunch, I finally fixed it by doing the following:
Factory Data Reset
Unchecked 'Verify Apps' option under Settings > General > Security
Dragging KNOX Shortcut to Disable option in app drawer (click and hold icon in app drawer and "Disable" appears on top)
Cleared Data on LookOut Security and re-entered logins
Removed those problematic apps and then reinstalled them
After reinstalling the very same apps giving me issues this whole time, they are now working perfectly. Please note I tried everything under the sun including 2 factory resets and reinstalling/installing from Wifi/Data and nothing worked. It was not a simple parse error or a simple install to sd versus install to device issue. It would happen by default and was not being corrected by any other method than this above. This is what worked for me and it finally solved my issue. I've been seeing a lot of buggy stuff with this Note 3 versus my Note 2 and I feel it's some of this extra crap that Samsung put in the Note 3. I know KNOX is supposed to be great for security, but it will mean nothing if it makes my device lose simple functionality of some apps.
If this helped anyone, feel free to thanks.
Cheers,
So quick update, the issue returned. I think I narrowed it down to a bad sdcard. I didn't think that would attribute to the app issues because I never explicitly installed to sdcard. But it seems at some point the phone tried to store the apps in question on the sd card automatically and that's when they failed. Anyone know if there is an auto apps to sd process on note 3?

I noticed my Sam's Club app was an icon of a grayed out SD card also.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
So far after removing my bad sdcard last night I haven't had the strange issue anymore. Actually a lot of the weird things that was happening have seem to subside. *Crosses fingers* hopefully this was my issue the whole time.

Keyboard No show

Okay, I'd like to start out with saying that I have Samsung note 10 plus. I may even be in the wrong forum for this question, which I apologise in advance.
I really need you guys help. I'm not sure if it's something I did having installed the app Package Disabler, (and mostly disabling things that I felt were Samsung bloated apps)
but after I did this and restarted my phone, the keyboard is missing. Now, I can't input my password to open my phone. I've Googled around and found some solutions, but they're all dated back in 2017 and things have changed since then.
1. using a wired keyboard or a micro USB adapter just to use it to access the keyboard part which would allow me to open up my phone since my phone hasn't a keyboard at the moment.
2. My only option now is the emergency call button. One suggestion was to dial #211 and that would miraculously do the trick. People were raving about that one, but then again that post was from 2017. lol! I tried it and got nada.
3. I even tried the wipe cache partition and that still doesn't work. I don't want to master reset my phone AGAIN. I just updated it, two ago.
Do you have any other suggestion???

Firstly ,
if you have read some of my previous post, i have warned about the possibility that disabling ,
apps eg with a package disabler , can have a "knock on" effect .
Anyway ,disabling what is bloat to you, can be linked to another device function/ system app ??
This is the reason i stopped using a package disabler .
The knock on effects can be various .....??
eg ..system apps can be corrupted or not working .. excessive battery drain ....etc
Nowadays , I only disable apps in the Device/Settings /Apps/....
All i can suggest is ..if you can ??/ ..enable all the apps you disabled with the Package disabler
Double check that you have and maybe do a "clean" factory reset afterwards .???
Do not import any backed up Device settings or data ..as it could have been corrupted
Good luck .

Question unknon malware or issue : in galaxy a72 device : quitting touch response/struck problem/occures again within some time after reboot.

malware issue : my galaxy a72 device has got any malware or virus that's not recognisable by any antivirus & it turned itself as system app. also it replicated itself intomultiple copies as various names. it causes system lag & anytime it makes the phone taking touch inputs, after itphone gets totally unusable. touch works again after reboot but within a little time it quits giving touch responce again. I hard reset my phone but the problem is persistingly the same. I don't understand how to get rid from this. Pls anyone help
Hi guys, I have same issue. Couple minutes after rebot I got unresponsive display... Is there any help what to do?
EDIT:
after first lock screen I got this issue. Than I can only restart..
Since this issue celular priovider is unavailable. 2G/3G/LTE doesnt work, also settings
I can not see other way than factory reset, or?
I'm experiencing the same issue; the malware has turned itself into system applications, and now can't be uninstalled or allow me to revoke permission access. It doesn't affect the speed of my device, though, but it affects other areas, such as legitimate websites and, well, my privacy.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S9+, and my model number is SM-956U. I have more information on my profile, but I'll attach a screenshot of what the malicious applications look like.
flash stock firmware with odin
Flashing stock doesn't help

Tried in my old phone, there are no problems.

HI YOU HAVE MANY WAYS TO FIX THAT
1-TRY FORCE CLOSE GOOGLE ASSISTANCE AND CLEAR ALL DATA AND CACHE .
2-IF YOU ARE USING A DATA PACKAGE ,USE A VPN
IF THOSE METHODS DON'T WORK UNINSTALL APP AND REINSTALL IT

Tried, didn't work.
Same here, brand new Pixel 6. Go into Assistant settings, scroll all the way down to "Your Apps (manage how Assistant works with installed apps)." Click on the Chrome browser and make sure "let your assistant choose this browser" is checked on. THEN, in the same settings, go to whatever other browsers you have installed and UNCHECK those.
Apparently Assistant got confused by too many options. (it might work if you check another browser and uncheck Chrome, but I quit playing with it once it was working again.)

Tried uninstalling, rebooting and re-updating the Google app. The Assistant is working again but Continued Conversations doesn't work. There were also times after I did this, the problem returned.
I had the same problem yesterday and fixed it by doing the following:
Google app->settings->Google Assistant->Assistant Voice-> and switch Phone to full.
I also purchased universal safetynet fix 2.2 and now pass Safetynet. Did both in conjunction with each other so that combo should work if you are rooted with the correct Magisk Canary.

ok i forgot to off capital letteres
I have struggled with this recently. Here's what worked for me. I noticed that on cellular it worked, but on my WiFi it did not although it had in the past. The trick was to go into WiFi settings and tell it not to randomly change the Mac address (use Device MAC). I suppose that -- maybe only with some routers -- the changing MAC is upsetting the NAT translation and your phone is making an outbound connection but that's just a theory.
I had the same problem, had used adaway and blocked some dns requests, cleared these and Hey Google worked again. Cheers.
Usually, the only times I have trouble with the Assistant this way are when I get in my car, hook it up for Android Auto, and in my driveway, I'm kinda in range of my Wi-Fi but not very well. It doesn't usually take very long for my phone to switch to mobile data on its own in this situation (and it took my Samsung way longer), but once it establishes a reliable connection via mobile data, then it's fine.
Necro'd thread to post POSSIBLE FIX:
Go into Developer options and disable 'App Wi-Fi Multi/Broadcasting Filter'. I'd turned it on randomly and forgotten, and have been suffering ever since. Turning it back off allows the app to connect to the internet, despite your phone being locked until standby.
Going off to cross-post this elsewhere because I've searched SO many pages trying to find a fix, and nobody mentioned trying this.
