Restoring To Stock Question - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all, new to the LG phones and had a question about the restore process. I went thru the process in the development section without having the phone rooted or having a custom recovery installed. I have had success with restoring the stock firmware. My questions are as follows:
1) If I root with the 2 current methods available will I be able to restore the phone back to stock with restore process?
2) If I install a custom recovery will I be able be able to restore the phone back to stock with restore process?
3) Will the restore if successful reset the tamper counter?:fingers-crossed:
Thanks in advance for your reply's

What I'm talking about is resorting the phone back to stock from this post. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2799647
[ALL Variants] Update / Restore to Stock your LG G3
I want to know if we can restore back to stock with the above method after rooting and eventually having CWM or TWRP on the phone.

Thanks for clarifying. Ok, flashing a .kdz file is like reinstalling the whole stock ROM again, so yes, you should go back completely to stock, including recovery and you will also lose root. You could also try another guide that's called something like "Unroot using PC suite" that doesn't involve flashing a file or you could also look for the thread that's called "LG Flashtool 2014 easiest way to go back to stock", something like that. That method seems to be easier but still involves a .kdz file.

Thanks for your reply, I kind of thought the same thing, but was not sure as I'm new to LG phones and rooting/restoring them. Like the phone very much, cant wait for a recovery and unlocked boot loader.

[Q] Factory Reset back to stock?

long story short: I screwed up my D2CAN (Telus) with a D2ATT recovery, flashing a ported ROM from a Sprint S3 (MSG_Chubz ROM)
Now if somone wouldn't mind sharing some knowledge on how i can go about going back to complete Stock, i'd be forever greatful...
I am hoping to return to stock using Odin, and then want to Re-Root so I can flash stuff safely again.
Can someone suggest how I can go about doing this, without bricking my phone?
So in a nut shell: Would i basically Flash the (.tar) file I used to root my phone in the first place, with Odin?
Then after that, restore, or re-download the recovery of my choice, or is it a tad more complicated then I'm thinking?
Your thinking is correct. Flash the correct rooted carrier firmware, boot into stock recovery and wipe data and cache. Then proceed with a custom recovery via goo manager or rom manager. Make a backup

Yes, simply flash that in ODIN. It happened to me on my D2ATT. All I did was flash in ODIN and everything worked perfect on Stock again. NOTICE thought that this will most likely unroot your phone, or at least that's what happened to me.

Not if he uses a rooted firmware tar...like I mentioned already. You must have used unrooted stock. I understand that you're trying to build the 10 posts that you need to be able to post in the development section, but please don't post in a thread just to post. Cheers
All I needed to do was flash the proper modem for 1747m (d2can), and now phone calls and texts work perfectly again.
Thanks for the suggestions and help everyone.

[guide] install at&t kitkat e980 stock flash + root + recovery - complete wipe !

[guide] install at&t kitkat e980 stock flash + root + recovery - complete wipe !
FOR AT&T LG E980:
Basically, from my experience I put together this guide for anyone who wishes to flash a complete stock AT&T KitKat from .TOT file and the root and add recovery.
All the steps are what I have gathered from around the forums, SO I WILL GIVE CREDIT FOR STEPS THAT ARE OUTLINED BY OTHERS. These people helped by their postings.
FLASHING TOT FILES:
1. The BEST - I think a lot of us can agree - thread for the LG E980 flashing with STOCK firmware is this by HYELTON http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44983841&postcount=1
STOP OVER THERE AND GIVE THE MAN SOME LOVE AND THANKS !!!!
.TOT files and .Kdz files for all versions can be found at Hyelton's thread above. Also, more details for flashing .TOT vs .Kdz files there. Below is some tips from my experience.
Here is the exact TOT file I used: http://www.mediafire.com/download/djjmck2eost77e3/BIN_LGE980AT-00-V20g-ATT-US-APR-28-2014+0.tot
SOME OF MY TIPS: FROM MY EXPERIENCES
2. The only hitch is getting LGFlash Tools and hacking it. I tried the links on Hyelton’s thread but some are now too new to be hackable. For example, one must find the reg key for the new version of LGTools he links to. Megalock.dll is hit-or-miss. There are other ways for sure but I did not bother further.
3. I found that lower versions of LG Flash Tool (v 1.4.1330R) works just fine.
EDIT: The latest version of LG Flash Tools is here http://www.mediafire.com/download/6g1uyoz2zsiqq1c/LG+Phone+Flash+Stuff.rar
And it contains the DLL to be used during flashing. I STRONGLY SUGGEST USING THIS. You MUST -MUST- TURN OFF INTERNET WHEN USING FLASH TOOLS. This pack contains the full software, and dll files. I have flashed using just this package >10 times at least while testing roms
a.Connect phone and let Windows install drivers. In my case, Windows 8 default were just fine.
b.Put your phone in download mode.
c.Connect it to your computer. In case of windows 8 the windows default drivers work fine.
d.Follow Hyelton’s steps.
EDIT: See posts #32and #33 in this thread. Do not go back to download. But wait for fastboot to install. See post #33 for this. Just wait patiently, the phone will reboot to full normal mode/setup screen, then the LG tools will say pass. BE VERY PATIENT.
ROOTING AND RECOVERY:
ROOTING:
THANKS TO jarari2:
1.This method here works just fine: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2699067
Simple bat file method. Turn ON USB Debugging before trying.
2.RECOVERY:

No Problem.
To do the OTA I guess you went back to complete stock ? Yeah, that is a good option too....! Only, it requires one extra flash (going back to stock!)
Just for info, can you please add the steps to your post.

I went back to pure stock and no custom recovery, then did the 10p update - I found that the update to 10p would not work with other than stock recovery. I then just used the settings query for OTA update, downloaded and installed - all my programs and data were intact after the update, except apps requiring root would not run correctly. I then followed your steps to root. I still have the stock recovery at this point. KitKat runs great.

So when going back to complete stock the 10p, how did you keep apps, settings if you used odin.? Just interested in your procedure since obviously OTA on stock will retain programs and settings.
It just worked...

Honestly, I don't know. I had been flashing lots of different ROMS and then went back the total day 1 stock. I then updated OTA to 10p a couple of months ago and rooted but did not flash a custom recovery. I then heard that 4.4.2 was available, checked via the about link and downloaded. All the apps and data stayed in place. I then rooted and have yet to flash a custom recovery. I'm sorry I can't give you more detail. But I can tell you that I seem to have better battery life, and I had to pair my phone to my car again. Good luck.
i miss network connection
hi, i follow your steps, and it worked, i have KK now on my e980.
but... sometimes i lost my network connection, and it returns in a minute or two
any ideas?
With the recovery installed from this thread. Can we flash non stock custom roms or just stock roms.

Hey! I can't flash the .TOT, the Flash Tool doesn't recognize port COM41, or any other. I go to device administrator, and there's my phone as port 41, but the Flashing Tool doesn't. Any ideas?!

[Q] How to upgrade LG Optimus G Pro to KitKat if not on AT&T

I have bought an unlocked LG Optimus G Pro and am using it on T-Mobile. It's on JB version 4.1.2. I know AT&T has rolled out KitKat upgrade for Optimus G Pro. I tried to update the software on my phone but it kept saying "Phone not registered to network". I went to LG support page and they redirected me to AT&T for software upgrade. There is no manual download link for the upgrade and AT&T page says it will happen OTA and must have active sim card in it[which I guess means Active ATT sim card].
My question is:
->Is it possible to upgrade it to 4.4.2 version that AT&T has pushed without being on AT&T?
->If so, where can I find the stock/untouched 4.4.2 ROM?
Thanks in advance. Sorry, if this is a repeat question but I did search the threads and didn't find this question anywhere.
Its not completely untouched, but its stock 4.4.2 with a few added features like Slide Aside:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2781401
To install this you need to be rooted and have clockworkmod recovery installed. (This will void your warranty!)
If you install this rom on the international version make sure you delete the modem.img in the zip before flashing throught cwm.
But never install the firmware (kdz) from another model with the lg flash tools, i tried this once and it Hard Bricked my phone
But if you like AT&T bloat and dont want a few more G2 features you can ty this rom:

Thank you very much. Never rooted Android, will look in to the links you have sent to try to figure something out!
But if you dont want to get any trouble with the first rom i sent you should delete the recovery.img, aboot.img and the modem.img because without this i figured out that it can cause Problems where the phone does not either boot or go in recovery. I just want to save you from this Problem because it can be tricky to restore the phone with the LG flash Tool.

[Q] - N7100XXUFNG4(FND2) to N7100XXUEMK9(MJ9)

Good day to all!!!
I've gone into bootloop, and having a hard time finding a link to my previous rom which is N7100XXUEMK9-COA(MJ9). So I decided to download at Sammobile a N7100XXUFNG4(FND2) -Philippines coz I'm from Philippines. And I flashed it thru odin. Installed PhilzTouch, rooted and done. After using it for a few days, while reading some threads to other forums. I finally found a link to my previous rom. I've successfuly downloaded it.
I'm just wondering if I can directly flash this N7100XXUEMK9(MJ9) back to my phone which is N7100XXUFNG4(FND2) now using odin again? Can I flash this without losing my IMEI, Modem, Wifi or my EFS being corrupted?
By the way 4.4 is fine. But on my own observation, it drains my battery faster than 4.3. So if there's a chance getting back to 4.3, maybe I'll grab the chance. If it's going to be complicated, maybe I won't do it anymore.
Sorry for a the long story. Hope somebody can help me. Thanks all.
Anyone? Please. Thanks.

I am unsure about this, if you have upgraded bootloader, you are stuck with latest bootloader, however you can downgrade rom, unless I am mistaken.

Thanks. But actually this has been answered to the other thread of Dr.Ketan. Here's his post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55076259&postcount=571
dr.ketan said:
You can't downgrade with Odin if your existing bootloader is kitkat. Though you can use mobile din to downgrade to 4.3. And regarding IMEI, No one can say whether you will lose it or not because even you doing everything correct there are still minimal chances to lose it (any bad flashing can cause it) but make EFS backup and copy it to multiple places. I stroingly recommend to make backup efs in .img format (search play store for "Dr.Ketan Hindocha" and you will find IMEI Tool N7100/N900 which makes backup on said format)

But anyways, thanks for your reply. Mod can now close this. Thanks.

I just have a simple question about flashing

If I am rooted and have flashed TWRP can I flash back to stock using LG Tools and not have to worry about anything? I need to receive an OTA and this is the only way to do it. Is there anything else I need to do before flashing back to stock aside from backing stuff up? Thanks guys.
Nope just backup all ure apps and contacts the flashtool back stock then let it do its thing now like mine when i goback stock on mine im on kk so i have 2 or 3 updates to do
Ok so basically it will replace my twrp with the base recovery program?
