[q] sm-t217s -> sm-t217t ? - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I picked up a Sprint Tab 3 and unlock code for cheap. I would like to use it on T-Mobile for data only. Thinking I could just swap SIMs, I tried to insert my T-Mobile SIM into the tablet and never received a message for the unlock code like I've seen in videos. Needless to say, it didn't work and tablet states "invalid SIM" on the bottom. Am I doing something wrong?
I tried to flash the T-Mobile img with Odin 3.09 and that failed. Is this not possible?
What are my options?
TIA

I also have the same question. I have the sprint tab 3 and want to move it T-mobile or Verizon. Did you get this answered?

No. However, from what I have learned from researching the issue, I believe it can be done but with a lot of work... more than I want to go through. And even then, there will be limitations to the radio bands.

I have a new T989 I bought without a contract. I have a Simple Mobile sim card. I have rooted and installed Juggernaut Rom. Before I rooted and now no changes in the fact when I install any sim I get no message of invalid or a place to enter unlock code.I know SM is suppose to work without unlock. But I havent been able to get SM to work at all. Do i need to flash another rom, because it seems that Im locked into Tmobile so far. Any help much appreciated!

Which .apn are you using? are calls working with the exception of data and mms?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
I have not changed the .APN. Nothing is working , there is a circle with a line through it in top status bar. Just get " mobile network not available" Im lost at how others have used Simple Mobile sims with nothing extra but to configure the mms/internet.
simple mobile is tmobile, you can use a tmo phone without unlocking with a simple mobile sim, i still have my simple mobile sim from when i used it on my vibrant, and i was able to make a call from my sgs2 without unlocking, so i might be wrong but you should try with an at&t sim, the apn settings for simple are on their site also.
Weird, I'm experiencing the same issue.
I believe the Simple Mobile SIM card is fine, because it works in /other/ (non-smart) phones such as my T-Mobile branded Motorola V195 and Nokia 6030 - I can place and receive calls and text messages.
But the Samsung Galaxy S II T989 is always stuck on "Searching" on the lock screen, and Settings: Wireless and network: Mobile networks: Network operators: Search now: only turns up "T-Mobile" and "AT&T" under Available Networks, both of which say "Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network" when I tap on them.
Oh yes, and I did program the Access Point Names (APNs) as per Simple Mobile's instructions, twice.
Both with the stock ROM, and with Juggernaut-v4.1 (as it so happens). Baseband version T989UVKL1.
I'll try and find someone with a working T-Mobile SIM card, test that in the phone tomorrow, and report back.
Sim is prolly bad I had same issue when I first put my sim in try another simple sim, maybe sticking it in non smart phones Burns something cus that's exactly how it went down for me:/ when i was using an older phone as a temp, then bought the sg2 and didn't work try using ur sim on another smart phone if it doesn't read it it's toast like mine was

I tested a coworker's T-Mobile SIM card in the phone and had exactly the same problems (no network/unable to find network - just AT&T and T-Mobile), whereas my coworker was able to use my SIMPLE Mobile SIM card in their phone successfully.
I flashed my baseband from to T989UVKID *, and the behavior is the same - still saying that it's not registered, and still only shows AT&T and T-Mobile when I search for networks. Co-worker's SIM card still doesn't allow me to connect to T-Mobile, either.
I'm starting to think the IMEI for this phone might have been reported stolen, and maybe it's being blocked externally (I did buy it from a pawn shop eBay seller - albeit one with good feedback). Hopefully T-Mobile can tell me if I call them up.
*-Well, I loaded the zipfile from topic "1426001 - [RADIOS] CWM Flashable Modems" onto my sdcard and applied update from zip, and Settings: About phone says "Baseband version T989UVKID" now.

probably blacklisted , sounds like this phone is blacklisted a lot people buying and selling before its even payed off , or getting a replacement and then selling
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Ya sounds like that. You know what my brother had a vibrant brand new from someone on cragslist and then several months later his gave same problem. He was on Simple Mobile. He called t Mobile and believe it or not said they don't black list phones and say it is not possible for them to do so. It was different reps too that said the same thing. I don't know. Maybe true?

IMEI blacklisted
I just borrowed the SIM card from a coworker's AT&T phone. I had to unlock my Galaxy, but I'd purchased an unlock code a few days ago before I realized that the problem wasn't a SIM lock.
Sure enough, the phone works fine on AT&T's network. 2187 kbps down, 436 kbps up, 105ms ping (in my area).
It's definitely the carrier blocking my phone. Now to see if I can return it. Hey, it will work on the AT&T network now, or maybe the seller can catch the person that sold them the phone.
P.S. Judging by the threads on support.t-mobile.com, Support L1 doesn't have access to or know about the IMEI blocks, but L2 does. Case in point:
support.t-mobile.com/thread/15348
Incidentally, I don't feel that it's T-Mobile's fault that I got a blacklisted phone, although I would like it if they *published* their IMEI blacklists. In Australia, you can punch in an IMEI code and see if it's blacklisted.

AT&T Unlock Code

Hello everyone,
I just received an unlock code from AT&T and it stats to power off the Samsung S3, insert a non AT&T sim card which I did (used a t-mobile) and input the pass code when prompt. I was never prompt to put in the unlock passcode.
I did noticed I had two signal arrows and a voicemail from t-mobile and the APN was already filled out with t-Mobiles network info.
I am not trying to use t-mobile, just want to unlock it so I can sell it.
Is my phone already unlocked?
Sounds like it
yup
yup...your unlocked now.
Is there a way to find out for sure?
Yes If it is not giving an invalid sim error then it is already unlocked

Did you buy the phone new?
I bought the phone off someone but he never used it so its new per the guy I bought it from.

[Q] Is this thing factory unlocked?!

This might seem like an odd question but I was poking around my note 4 today and i'm noticing something interesting within the settings. If you go into Settings> More Networks> Mobile Networks you can see a small list if mobile network options. If you select Network Mode, you can see it has GSM/UMTS as an option to select. Going back you can also see within that small list of network options a grayed out setting "Network Operators." This leads me to question, is this phone capable of being used on both GSM and CDMA? If not with factory Sprint settings, possibly something the hardware is able to do unlocked? I just find it interesting that the device offers different network options than the standard CDMA/LTE that I am used to only seeing on and once more there is no carrier branding on the device at all outside of the initial splash screen upon start-up.
What do you guys think?
Before my sprint note 4 was activated, in the apn settings,i was able to edit it as there was nothing in there. Once I had activated the phone it showed the sprint one and had became grayed out being uneditable.

Interesting, thanks for the share. During that brief moment you had in the APN Settings, did it display list of carriers or was it like an actual edit option for you to place input? Im curious to find out if this thing can actually run GSM network sims.
ask sprint for a sim unlock...and check

So me being the sly little devil that i am, decided to check my apn's on my phone which turns out, THAT THEY ARE EDITABLE!!!!. So i can know assume that the phone may come factory unlocked and that we should add another carriers apns and sim card to try it out. I believe this is the reason why the phones dont have the carrier branding on them, because they are proprietary to samsung before activation, and then that carrier adds the signed/encrypted packages to the phone. So, with that said.... I NEVER ACTIVATED MY NOTE 4. i SWITCHED BACK TO MY NOTE 3 AFTER I PURCHASED THE PHONE. ( sorry for the caps, pure excitement) Then I skipped the activation and blocked the phones internet access, so here i sit with an non activated sprint note 4. If anyone wants me to test anything let me know!
Here are the pics.

Any idea what I beed to do to save the apn. They wont atick. Should I acquire root?
i stuffed a tmobile sim in and got the invalid sim msg, if its anything like the s4 etc we will need to sim unlock it and then domestically unlock it.
you can always ##786# and enter your MSL to reset the device if you think sprints programming is the thing messing it up, however it really does wipe the device.
its a no go

I can see att and tmobile network, but i did some browsing in the build.prop file and discovered that there is a setting that says uses sprint sim card only. So It turns out that sprint used the same lock method as the note 3 on this. So now im trying some other things, going to look into a jtag and solder directly to the chip to read files and write them, so i can find out whats really going on with this unlock behind the scenes
sim locked
I'm stuck with my sprint galaxy note 4 unactivavted .
Did you guys ever get yours unlocked
if you are still with sprint .
One guy told me that i would have to get Sprint to do a international ulock and that will unlock the sim but the phone has to be active on sprint's network for them to do it
If their is a way to unlock my phone without going to sprint please tell me thanx and good luck

I just hate sprint so bad, I have the nexus 6 witch I know I can take to a GSM carrier but we are wondering if my wife's Note 4 can do the same once we pay them off.
Currently the note is not sim unlocked in the US they are unlocked for outside the US. But with in time I'm sure some great xda member will find a way like they did on the note2

ask sprint to do a " international sim unlock" now because you are going overseas for vacation . they will not do it if you dont just to go to another carrier but thats what I found out after they do that then the phone can be used with another carrier. that is what I didn't do and now they said I would have to get their service two year contract and keep it for 3 months and then they will unlock sim pay early termination fee goodluck

Galaxy Tools has a SIM unlock button in it. I pressed it and it says Im unlocked now but not sure. So as far as sprint unlocking it for you I think its possible you can do it yourself for international.

Using T-Mobile Note 3 on AT&T

I wanted to get a T-Mobile Note 3 so I can have the device with an unlocked bootloader. Do I just buy one from Swappa or someone else and pop my sim in and I'm all good?

You have to carrier/sim unlock the phone first. Then you can pop in the at&t sim, and then you should change the APN settings and you should be ok to go. Though many people reported wonky/quirky speeds due to modem firmware being different(I'm trying to get to the bottom of this myself).
I'm planning on going this route myself, I started a more concise thread if you want to check it out. I wanted to know people's settings/issues/resolves/fixes running a n900t on at&t's network.

Sprint Note 10+ but on AT&T

Guys,
I got a Sprint Note 10+ from one of my friend who was leaving for good to a diferent country. He is on Sprint. I am on AT&T. What's the process to flash this to make it work like a Note 10+ on AT&T?

Sure hope he got Sprint to unlock it for you before he left. Because if not, you'll have fun getting it to accept your att sim card.
If the unlock is done already you should be able to factory reset and insert your sim card and it should detect and customize for att settings.

Moving across the globe won't prevent your friend from getting a hold of Sprint and requesting the device to be unlocked.
Try getting in touch with him and ask him to take care of it. As long as the device qualifies for unlocking with Sprint then this shouldn't be an issue.

Is the phone network/sim unlocked? If it is then the process on how to do this has been covered indepth already. Be aware though that some features will only be provisioned to phone's that AT&T sells (they determine this by an IMEI whitelist). This also has been discussed extensively on the forum.
If your phone is not sim/network unlocked then you will be wasting your time as it will only work on the Sprint network. At this point get a hold of your friend who gave you the phone and ask him to get a hold of Sprint. Your friend will need to ask Sprint to unlock the phone, provided the phone qualifies to be network/sim unlocked by Sprint.
