I am said to have an android update to install; i tap, phone reboots, and got a green circle; when the progress bar is at about 30%, the logo changes for a red triangle.
Where is the update log ? How can I track the issue ?
Is it possible to apply updates manually ?
Phone rooted and heavily modified. I did not changed that many things in /system, but I installed Xposed, and some plugins may have done more things than me.
I usually have TWRP, but I restaured the original recovery for this update.

It's an Android Update. I made changes in /system but never changed my ROM.
OTA_M8_UL_K44_SENSE60_MR_Bouygues_FR_2.22.1020.5-1.54.1020.10_release_387488.zip
Update info says it will improove Android 4.4.3, Wifi, Bluetooth, Camera soft, Gallery, params, HTC Sync, BoomSound and Quick Launch. So it looks like an Android HTC update ... with my operator brand (Bouygues is my service provider, the one who sold me the phone).

well if thats the case then you might brick ur phone, try to reflash the rom
never accept update from your mobile operator.
I have unpacked the ZIP. What is the way to manually apply it ? I have found several scripts and ELF; some at the root, and some in META-INF; which one is the entry point ?
I have found a 45MB firmware; where does it go ?
Does the log go in /data/anr/traces.txt ?

I have literally said yes to updating every time it pops up. I know it's the same, because it's the same size every time (293.3 MB). Not to mention I've said "accept" every time, installed, reboots my device, then couple days later it tells me to do it again. Another thing to note are the same 3 systems apps asking to be updated (Voice Mate Speech Pack, Voice Mate, Voice Mate Engine).
Text from the update:
This update will ensure your device is working at optimal performance with the Sprint Network. The update will require that your phone is rebooted and it will not be available for emergency calls while installing the software.
My LG G3 is the Sprint variant (ls990), rooted via Stump Root and on the stock android. I have used G3 TweaksBox, as well as installed Xposed.
PM me for a link to the screenshots.
Anyone with an answer? Google only refers to Lollipop updates that are still not here anyways

You know OTA`s will only be installed when a device is unrooted and doesn`t have any system modifications. Either disable OTA notifications or flash a stock rom and have root removed or flash a custom recovery and rom.

Im trying to root the HTC E9+ (phone wad bought in China) to install the google apps
i unlocked the bootloader
but cant flash or even boot into recovery as no versions of twrp or cwm are available yet
Any idea where i can get it or is there any other way to install su bin ? odin ? thx
I've got the same problem...
I've got the same issue as the OP. Some more background... I got this phone (HTC E9+, aka e9pw) a few days ago in Hong Kong. Had read about the hardware and was very excited to get a new phone. Powered up OK in the shop, made calls, browsed internet etc.
I got back home and suddenly noticed that not all was as it seems. The app store icon didn't link to the Google Play Store, but some HTC Chinese only app store. Chrome wouldn't install. Lots of the google stuff is stripped out.
The problem seems to be the Chinasense UI. It is not a full Android UI, but something very stripped back. There are none of the standard google apps and things like Chrome and Google Play Services refuse to install. These limitations make this smartphone a very dumb phone.
I hope that this is just a short term issue that HTC hasn't integrated the new MediaTec chipset yet and that soon the full Sense UI will be available, until then, any help would be appreciated with rooting this thing and getting a decent phone...
If you still don't know - all google products in China forbidden!!! It never come back. Just find way how to load international version.
Hello,
I live in France and i received the Htc one e9+ this morning. I come from GN4 and i had HTC one M8 before.
Like you i'm trying to install gapps but not everything goes well.
I would like to ask you if you are as desapointed i am ?
-The phone feels really cheap
-The boomsound sounds far from HTC one m 8 quality, do you think the same ?
Xavier
@ Mozart360, from where you got e9+.
Because, this phone is only for Chinese market.
@ Arvic, I took it on ebay.com. I really thought it would be a fantastic phone.
e9+ India version seems to have all the google stuff
Personally I like the look and feel of the hardware. It is just the Chinasense UI which is disappointing. I've noticed in some of the videos for the e9+ release in India that the google apps are there. There is hope yet for this phone...
Then we must find way how to root it. I guess here in xda someone share idea how to do it...

Hi, if you just want to get all the google services, you can download an app from the HTC market named GMS which you can search it, and then you can download all the google services through this GMS app, which the data is about 180+MB. After downloading, it requires a reboot and get into stock recovery to update some package into system to get all the services running. With all this progress, you can use google services as a normal android cellphone.
But about the China SenseUI, without root, nothing can be modified. There are three switches in /system/customize/ACC/default.xml to turn on or off the China SenseUI function. As a result, without root permission, this default.xml file could not be modified, as least I have not worked out a way to modify it. So China SenseUI couldn't not be turned off. I don't know how to operate with stock recovery to modify system partition, or whether the stock recovery get the rights to modify /system partition.
ALL THE ABOVE shares to the one who is using HTC E9+ outside China.

And another thing attached, the app name is GMS安装器 in chinese, but no English name. Its icon is a green android robot with some google icons in the body of the robot. Don't get the wrong app. The app itself is only 0.05MB.
And it's very sad that the HTC Market doesn't have an English language. Try to recognize the chinese characters as I told above.
GSM works!
It works! I downloaded and installed GSM and now I have all the Google Apps. I'm pretty sure this phone now has everything I need. The process is all in Chinese so I'll give you a run down of what I did. Hopefully I can remember it all.
Go to the HTC app store and find GSM. Icon of a little green Android guy with some icons inside him. Download and install. GSM will then start to download all the apps which took me an hour or so. There is a notification with a progress bar so you know it is going ok. After the download there is a message which asks you to make sure the SD card is removed. Accept all the pop ups. Restart and hold down the volume button which goes to recovery mode. It will crunch away with some installation. When it finally boots up, all the Google stuff is there.
Thank you CPStar.

E9+
hey guys... i hav an e9+ but taiwan stock ... so evrythn is english and no xtra chinese apps ... if ne1 wants i will try to make a system dump for u guys.. but i guess GMS solves the issue for evry1.
So what are the opinions of the few that own the E9+? Pros/Cons? Battery life? Gaming performance?
I am considering this phone because IMO 5.5 inch screen is the sweet spot.

Yes, it works! Thanks @cpstar !
Only steps are different....
After downloading file via GSM, phone must switch off, then switch on by holding power botton and volume down, then must choose "reboot to bootloader mode", then reboot in recobery mode.....
But when you press "reboot in recovery mode" - actualy nothing happens.
I just swithced off phone by long hold power botton. Then switchen on and in booting time started install 27 app.
After, I tried via HTC help to check phone updates. And downloaded update, but following window it ask to "install now", after "OK" phone just two times restart and nothing happen!
After restar - again popup msg about update.
How to solve this problem?

Battery life ~ 9 hours. By using WeChat all the day, taking photos, Using Web browser. By using 4G network. If using WIFI, will be longer time ~ 12h.
Except Chinese app - I'm satisfied.
So how do we root HTC E9+ ???
Hi guys,
I've been following this thread and am planning to buy an HTC One E9+. Can Frama-root / RootGenius / Kingo Root do the job? I plan to buy it once there's a verified way on rooting the E9+ phone AND add Google apps. I understand Google apps can be added using the GMS安装器 application. So the only question now is: How do we root this phone? Tried Google and Baidu, seems nothing clear yet on how to do it. Thoughts? Please share Android experts! Thank you!

Hello
Im also buy HTC one M9+ , use GMS安装器 intsall all google apk but cant change blinkfeed chinese version international and sanse cant change chinese version .
HTC one M9+ have any international version offical room or not ?
I can witness that the above rooting process is working perfect for my E9+ (HK) version.
So should i get it?
So guys im thinking about getting this phone and now i know it has root and if i am correct it can function as a normal android smartphone but i do have 2 questions I'd love to be answered. 1 can you install google play and download apps from it? And 2) what roms work on it (if any)?
I bought this phone in Dubai and it has Play Store and Chinese senseUI stuff. My question is, after doing the above rooting process, will it be possible to update or no ?. There is an update available, I haven't rooted and haven't updated yet
I have the dual sim version. Does this method work with it ?
Hi guys, I really hope you can give me a hand here. I was rooted using method 3. Yesterday I unrooted the device. Today there were some OTA updates, so I downloaded them and wanted to install them. It was 58 if I'm not mistaken. The phone rebooted and started installing the updates and after few seconds a symbol of android popped up with an error message. After that the phone started and said that update wasn't installed and the origanal settings were returned. After that it said that there wen't new updates available. Factory reset didn't help either. Later a new update was available 59 I think, but the same thing happened... I really don't know what to do now.
I have ZF2 64Gb, WW version installed on it.
right now running 2.19.40.22
I'm really hoping for your help
Update: I've don't system wipe and cache wipe from the recovery menu
Update N2: I've managed to install V2.19.40.22 image from official website. But my phone doesn't show me an option to do an OTA update, it says that there aren't any update available. Is there a way to make him check again properly?

Do you mean as in making the file MOFD_SDUPDATE.zit puting it on the SD card and through recovery? The update starts, then says gives an error
In recovery it says:

I might have edited my build.prop file back then when I was playing with DPI. Now I can't find the line I edited... please help

That's why you have to flash the pre root firmware first. It restores all the system files so they can pass the check while the OTA runs.

I have solution for you.
100% working.
Before update v 59 once do same with v 58.
Hi,
After performing OTA update to Android 9 Pie WiFi started to experience serios problems.
It connects to Wi-Fi routers like before, but keep constantly loosing connection. The indication in the status bar is like normal. However all apps requiring internet stop working.
In Twitter app, you can browse the tweets but when you want to update the screen you have 'Unable to get tweets at this time'
In Gmail app, you can browse emails in a folder but when you switch to other folder you will have 'Connection error, retry'
In eBay app, you may go into Bids area of the app and see your bids, but when you switch to a lot the app locks.
WiFi calling is not working.
This problem was reported many times this summer, when Pie was available for beta download (Reddit and Google dev forums have a long list of reports). It was suggested that:
-disable\enable WiFi trick can work this out. (It cannot with XZ2c)
-disable IPv6 in router as the Pie tries to establish IPv6 connection (It is not a solution when you are not an admin of a router, but I checked on 3 networks and diffrent models by disabling IPv6- no use).
-disable WiFi discovery in WiFi settings (it does not work).
-reset network setting (I did lost all my saved networks, but it did not help).
I contacted Sony Support and the only suggestions is that OTA update did not go well, so they want me to make update again via Xperia Companion. Meaning hours of backup and loosing information and settings of dozens of apps.
According to the reports (you can google "WiFi issues after Android Pie update") making factory reset is not a solution. I will try to restore the updated Android 9 via Xperia Companion.
But this is the serious issue equal to bricking a phone that quite new yet. (((((((
seems I am experiencing this as well sometimes after PIE update... sh!t..
I made clean install via Xperia Companion and it did not help. Sony wants me to bring it to the service.

Yes, install flashtool and download a firmware that is still on Oreo (check version number). I used the SG one (4G icon and NFC persistent icon). After flashing it, you most likely end up in a bootloop. Fix this with Experia Companion. Don't wait to long though; once Pie is available for all regions, you can't use Companion to fix the bootloop AND stay on Oreo. You will be stuck with Pie. Good luck!

Sound near impossible. When can I get the latest Oreo for ZX2c? Can you guide me to flashtool thread, so that I could read how to do it?
It's not too difficult. All you need to know is at flashtool.net
Installed previous firmware, all problems gone!! Even the speed is faster than on Android Pie
Now I need to find out how to hide Sony's 'New software available' from the notifications.

2) I dowloaded and installed the driver https://developer.sony.com/file/download/xperia-xz2-driver/
3) I find the previous firmware for my region, the latest is 51.1.A.11.51 . It is one big 2.2 Gb *.ftf file, I put it into C:\Users\**yourname*\.flashTool\firmwares on my Win7 pc
4) Run the flashtool and pressed the flash button
5) when prompted I switched off the phone, pressed volume down button and then inserted the USB into phone and pc
6) Waited 7-8 minutes untill the flashing is finished.
Disconnected the phone, pressed power and in 10 minutes I have this cool device up and running like it should!

6) Waited 7-8 minutes untill the flashing is finished.
Disconnected the phone, pressed power and in 10 minutes I have this cool device up and running like it should!

thanks I already downloaded the .11.51 firmware also, but I don't have the ftf, I have all files extracted... probably because I selected to unpack it automatically.. but I thought I still could find the ftf somewhere... will download it again without the unpacking this time and see.
this way it cleared all your data right? and wiped internal sd also maybe? or all your data was still there after the downgrade?

thanks for the info, fastory reset is not a big problem for me, I think I am downgrading also soon! don't like pies... redownloading ftf now and flashtool (which is taking ages to complete download... so slow!)
edit: even without unpacking I don't have the ftf but three separated files, will google to see how to create the ftf from the firmware files!
nvm
downgrade successful, great to see Oreo running again! quick settings icons in pie are just horrible..
no update notification here yet, but probably just because the ftf i chose (customized ce1) has no pie update available yet...!

Glad to hear that you succeded! Congrats!
I have read some advice that AdGuard app can block Sony Software Updates, but it required installation of crapware (unnecessary browsers) so I will look into other possibilities to block it. This exercise with Pie update made me spend long hours backing up and restoring, so I will need more time.
Offtopic: I have blocked updates on Win 10, Mozilla and now it is time for my Android phone. What is this world coming to...

I'm using adguard to block ads in browser.. maybe if we disable the Sony sw update app via adb will do the trick? i did this to disable some system apps that were not possible to disable from settings (SwiftKey keyboard etc)
i don't mind about future updates so will try tomorrow if i have time and see what happens!
disabled all update relevant apps from the phone via adb shell.. I hope this will prevent the ota update to show up, will see when the PIE update for CE1 will be released! :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

you must install minimal adb for windows and send the adb command, I did it on win10 and it worked fine. also disabled headsup notifications this way, hate them!
when you have minimal adb installed, connect the phone via usb (when it is on and debug mode enabled in advanced settings) open a command prompt from the folder where you have adb.exe and run:
adb devices
... to check if your phone is seen. if so, run the following commands to disable sony update apps:
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.sonyericsson.updatecenter
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.sonymobile.mtp.extension.fotaupdate
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.sonyericsson.mtp.extension.update
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.sonymobile.updatecenter.config.latecmz
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.sonymobile.updatecenter.config.autoinstall
doing like this now when I go to settings > sw update I have now the stock android update app opening, not the sony app anymore, so hope the sony updates won't be seen anymore!
if you have already the notification always shown you can try the above and see if after rebooting the phone, it disappears or not..
let me know!

Hi there. I'm new to Xiaomi/MIUI and would appreciate any help with the following issues.
Mi 10T – Global Stable 12.0.8 – stock launcher – MIUI optimization ON – de-bloated with ADB
I can't see how much storage space is being taken up by each installed app/package. They all show a "0" value.
I can't find Running Services under Developer Options.
I can't permanently disable usage access for System Launcher. It re-enables itself once I exit the settings menu.
App icons aren't updating. For example, Gmail, Maps, Photos and FB Messenger still display their old icons, despite me using the latest versions of those apps.
Google Play still displays the older menu style, despite me using the latest version of that app.
System Apps Updater doesn't detect OTA updates, despite several newer versions of MIUI 12 system apps existing on APK Mirror. This issue presented itself before I began de-bloating.
Updater doesn't detect OTA updates. I had to sideload 12.0.8 in order to update from the phone's original OS version (12.0.7). This issue presented itself before I began de-bloating.
Full disclosure: I'd rather not turn off MIUI optimization to see if that resolves any of these issues, as I'm not keen on resetting permissions (again).
Edit:
When I uninstall an app via the app drawer, a gap is left in its place. The icon of the uninstalled app is still there, it just turns invisible. I can uninstall it over and over, but it doesn't go away until I reboot the phone.
There doesn't appear to be a way to turn off the phone's equalizer. I can't use Blackplayer's equalizer until I do so. I don't know if the same applies to other music players.
Edit:
There doesn't appear to be a way to add emergency contacts or access them via the lockscreen emergency dialer. Emergency information (com.android.emergency) exists within the list of installed apps.
I'm on Global 12.0.7, unlocked, rooted and debloated. Stock recovery. What did you exactly do to update to 12.0.8? I do not want to wipe and I'm a little confused with the procedure...

I downloaded it from here, went to About Phone in Settings, clicked on the OS version number in the top left, clicked on the 3-dot menu in the top right and installed it via Mi File Manager.
AFAIK, you can only use Mi File Manager to install the update via this method. If you've disabled or uninstalled it, nothing will happen when you click that menu option – even if you've installed another file manager.

I just tried this. It reboots and starts updating... but goes from 0.X% to 100% in two seconds, then it boots and it's still 12.0.7

That sucks. It worked just fine for me. Don't know what else to suggest.

Finally I booted into TWRP and flashed 12.0.9 from there, no issues.
