Diztronic Stickerboy Mod - ONE Accessories

A while back I bought a Diztronic case from @OneStepAhead. This case quickly became my favorite case. The case can be found here:
Diztronic TPU Case- Notification List
The look and fit is perfect, and it provides some of the best protection that can be found right now. The only thing that I was missing was the textured sandstone back that I love so much on the Oneplus. I wanted this texture not only for the look and feel but for the grip. The case tends to slide out of my hands easily. I also own the Pelosi sandstone case, but I feel the Diztronic provides better coverage. While browsing the forums, I found the Stickerboy thread here:
Sticker Boy Skin Review
I decided to try to apply a stickerboy skin to the back of my Diztronic found here:
https://tpu-cases.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=104_105&products_id=396
I bought the matte black found here:
http://www.stickerboy.net/collectio...s/black-matte-antibacterial-oneplus-one-skins
*Note: I bought the Type 2 back panel only.
Other skin sources:
http://www.cruzerlite.com/skins/oneplus-one
https://dbrand.com/shop/oneplus-one
Here are the results:
Pros:
- Fit is almost perfect. The rear camera/mic/headphone jack cutouts are just slightly off. Edit: Fixed with hairdryer
- Definitely improves grip. Edit: After using it for a day, I feel that I need something "grippier"
- Adheres well.
- Looks great, I love having the 1+ on the back.
- Feels like a little added protection.
Cons:
- There is a slight ridge around the edge of the sticker that you can feel with your fingers.
- The rear camera, mic port, and the headphone jack all have slight overlaps where the small portions of the back part of the sticker are exposed.(See pics). Edit: fixed with hairdryer.
- I get a bit of lint on the edge of the skin. Wipes off easily.
- Texture is not sandstone grit like the back of the OPO. It feels more like a textured vinyl.
- Need more grip.
Tip:
-Use a hair dryer to form the skin around the camera/mic openings. Credits @rodger-sp

Summary:
The jury is still out on how well this will work and stand up to every day use. I just applied the skin yesterday so we shall see. Overall I am very happy with how the project turned out. I am going to use a red paint pen to accent the 1+ logo on the back. In retrospect I would have considered a different colored skin to accomplish that. I may purchase another Diztronic/Stickerboy combo to get a little variety.

Cool idea. Did you purchase the "Type-1" or "Type-2" Back only?

Thanks! Good catch. It was the Type 2 back only. Added to the OP.

That is a great idea! I have the Diztronic TPU case and some Stickerboy skins I am going to have to try this.

Feel free to post pics, especially if you try another color combination.

Thanks OP. Been thinking about doing something like this. Or even scuffing the back to get some sort of grip.

This is a great write-up/project. Looks like it came out quite well, good pics too! I'll be doing this as well in the next week or so. I may also pickup one or two more diztronic cases for some color variety as well. Thank you for posting this Condor97.

After using the case/mod for a day, I feel the need for something "grippier". I updated the OP to reflect this. Does anyone have any experience with the Cruzerlite skin? How does it feel?

Here is how I did the Stickerboy / Diztronic mod.
I am using the Charcoal Gold Scratch Type 2 back with the black Diztronic TPU case.
After I installed the Skin I used a hair dryer to heat the skin so I could bend it around the camera opening.
For the mic. opining after heating the skin I used a very small pair of tweezers with a sharp point to increase the mic. opining. I inserted the tweezers slowly wile twisting them. You can see the results in the second photo.

http://www.moshimonde.com/product/ivisor-ag-for-galaxy-siii.aspx
Packaging:
Minimalist cardboard packaging printed with Soy ink (as stated on the package). Very easy to open with the pull tab on the back. Inside is a cardboard flap that protects the screen protector and included cleaning cloth. As for that cloth...what a joke! It's a nice material but it's roughly the size of 50 cent piece or silver dollar. It's so small it's tough to keep two fingers on it without letting them touch the screen as you're trying to clean it. Once I seen that cleaning cloth I though "oh boy, what did I get myself in to?"
Installation:
Before proceeding with the install I did a dry fit to see how it lines up to get an idea of how it was going to fit. It covers the whole face of the phone all the way to the edge. The cut outs are precise and form fitting and there are two "cutouts" for the capacitive buttons as well. The fact that this protector is able to be removed and replaced at will, guarantees a bubble free installation, took alot of the stress out of the procedure. You don't have to worry about how or where you hold it for fear of getting finger prints on the backside of it since it's the same color as the phone except for where it covers the screen. Simply peel off the protective sheet, line it up at the top with the protector slightly bent in the middle so once it's lined up you can roll it down into place. Once it's in place, use the cleaning cloth to rub all around the colored portion to ensure a good adhesion.
Final Thoughts:
It looks like you don't have a screen protector on it at first glance. If you have a white phone you're well aware of the light bleed around the capacitive buttons, this fixes that. Install took all of 20 seconds and resulted in no dust or bubbles under it. The reason it guarantees no bubbles is because there is no adhesive or other adhering properties on the area that covers the screen. The "adhesive" is only on the colored area. The protector adheres nicely to the phone including the beveled areas of the screen but beware when using this with a case. I have an Incipio Silicrylic Dual Pro and because the silicone sleeve barely wraps around the edge of the face of the phone, when you press the volume or lock button it pushes the sleeve against he side of the protector and lifts it I have a Fosmon S style TPU case and checked it out to see how far it's edges wrap around the face of the phone and it looked like it wrapped over it more, but because it's such a tight fit I decided to remove the back cover of the phone before installing it and that worked out perfectly! The phone is nice and snug and it doesn't cause the protector to lift when pressing the buttons since it actually overlaps the protector instead of butting up against it's side.
As for clarity....well, this is an AG protector which stands for anti-glare so i'm sure you all know what that means. The standard grainy effect is there, although it's not as bad as most, and does take away some of the clarity of the screen. It's mostly noticeable on light backgrounds but if you're looking at it close enough you can see it no matter what. One thing that worried me is that there would be an obvious sign that the protector is not adhered to the screen itself...there's not. The protector is nice and smooth to swipe across and even the "openings" over the capacitive buttons are smooth, that's because they aren't actually openings it's just that they aren't colored.
Overall the product is good but it degrades the display quality and limits the cases you can use with it. But it also covers the whole screen, is washable and reuseable, eliminates the light bleed around the capacitive buttons, significantly reduces glare and fingerprints, ensures no bubbles and makes installation a breeze. Only 2 negatives, but they are big deals to alot of us so weight the pros and cons before you go give up your $25 for it
thanks for the great review.
My last hope for this protector is that it plays nicely with the Seidio Surface Garnet Red case I just ordered for it
Good review but I returned mine. I wasn't as good as I hoped for personally. I used it for a good week and a half.

I don't blame you. I had issues with it letting dust between the protector and the screen. So I returned it. Plus it wouldn't work with any case that I bought. Really its to bad because I loved it at first!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it plays nicely with the new case cause like you I really like this thing...the degredation is there but it's not so significant that I couldn't deal with it given all the other benefits of it.
Thanks guys for the kind words on the review, I try to be as thorough as possible to help those on the fence try to make their decision.
WTF are they thinking not making a clear one? Such potential!!
Hopefully the X gear one has beveled edges.

It doesn't fit with the seidio case. I have the surface case in black. When you slip the case on with the protector on, it squeezes the edges of the screen protector together causing one edge to lift making a slight bubble. I couldn't stand the anti glare so I ended up returning the screen protector. Made the screen look blurry. The screen looks 10x better without it. Also wasn't worth $25 to me. It did feel nice but can't say it looked nice though.
You didn't go wrong with the seidio case though. It's a nice case. I've been using it for the past 2 weeks.

What I meant was I hope it has curved edges like the gs3. I think they mean beveled edges as in not sharp edges so the don't get caught on anything

I like the idea of this as a screen protector, but like others have mentioned with their cases, it does not fit properly with the body glove case. Hopefully I can return it, as I really like the feel of the Body Glove.

Yeah, with someone confirming it doesn't play nicely with the Seidio Surface case, mine is going back too
I have a question. How thick is this protector? The Xgear version is only .4mm thick. That's about half the thickness of a human fingernail!! I was worried about it interfering with the home button but it should be fine considering how thin it is!

Goodgoobetywoo!!! I think i'm in love
This review i'm gonna do the opposite of all the others I've done and give my final thought at the beginning. This cover is sick! I have the Marble White phone so this cover is perfect for it, it fits like a glove with all the edges lining up perfectly, the cutouts are spot on and unlike the brushed aluminum cover I recently got it doesn't add any bulk...this is based on the fact that my Fosmon TPU case fits just like it did with the stock cover on. With the brushed aluminum cover on, my Fosmon case didn't fit...I was able to cram in into my Incipio but it was like a fat kid wearing skinny jeans. I highly recommend this cover, NFC works with it even with my TPU case on over it.
Alright, back to business...
Packaging:
It comes in an unassuming padded yellow envelope and inside it was packaged very well to endure the bumps and bangs of being shipped from Korea to California. Once you open the envelope inside was a piece of cardboard folded in half and taped shut, inside the cardboard was the cover, wrapped in bubble wrap with a piece of high density foam on the underside of the cover to help prevent the cover from bending much during shipping. It was nice to see them take such measures on the packing of the cover to ensure it made it's journey safely and in once piece. Once you got past all the packing material you were left with the cover, in a plastic sleeve and a note of thanks from the seller that asks for good feedback as well and is hand signed.
Fit and Finish:
Absolutely stunning! The first thing I noticed is how nice the carbon fiber looked and how well integrated it was into the cover. I fully expected it to look as if they just took a carbon fiber inlay and just glued it down. None of that here! The CF mates up very nicely along the bezel of the cover and fits the curvature of it like spandex on a big booty. The other pleasant surprise was just how nice the "Galaxy S III" logo looked...in the pictures I had seen on the ebay link, it looks grey/silver to me, it's actually chrome and it's perfectly embedded into the carbon fiber. The bezel of the cover is gloss white and matches the white on the phone perfectly. The only bad thing I can say about this cover is that the cutout for the speaker is not as precise or perfect as the rest of the case. The whole middle of the cover is carbon fiber, where the cutouts are for the camera/speaker/flash is as well but they are bordered in the gloss white plastic. The flash and camera openings are perfect but the speaker opening isn't quite....the carbon fiber inlay just looks like the corners of that opening were cut ever so slightly too wide, not rounded enough so there is a bit of daylight in the corners. Keep in mind I have borderline schizophrenic OCD, what I just described 99% of people won't notice or care about but i'm just being honest in my review and observations.
Functionality:
As sexy as my brushed aluminum battery cover was, it interfered with NFC and ended up significantly degrading wifi and mobile data signal strength when not close to the source (router or cell tower). Not only that, but it also added a tiny bit of girth too, enough to where my Fosmon case would not fit and my Incipio had to be "convinced" to fit. With this carbon fiber cover on it fits perfectly into both cases and didn't take any "convincing" to do so, it's as if the stock cover were on. NFC works just as well no matter if the phone is in a case or not, even in the Silicrylic Dual Pro. And most important, signal strength is back to normal levels (same levels as with the stock cover on) for both Wifi and mobile data.
I have never been a fan of bumper cases but this cover is so damn sexy that I have to show it off so i'm going to order a TPU bumper case for it, something that will add very little bulk yet add some drop protection while showing off the sexiness that is my white carbon fiber battery cover.

It's not real carbon fiber but it could fool most...that's another thing I was worried about, that it would look obviously fake and generic but they took their time in making the pattern for it cause the texture and look of it is very, very deceiving, very realistic. I've seen real carbon fiber, raw and epoxied so I have a very low tolerance for fake carbon fiber but this cover pulls it off with flying colors.

Yeah, I seen that one too. I think it looks nice too. Yeah, the Hong Kong thing sucks, but from the date I ordered to the day I got it (today) was 11 days. Not too bad IMO. I'm not too sure how or why they sent me that brushed aluminum cover the other day but that one came from the same place and I got it in just 8 days. Free gift I suppose??? I've got the black on order. Here are some pics of a guys blue with the black carbon housing.
He also ditched the aluminum cover for this one and likes this one a lot.
So with this cover, the front and back of phone are black.
And only the side trim is blue.
Like a small blue racing stripe going around the side of the phone.
I don't know how he made the front black though?
I ordered the black as well, should be here by next week or so

These battery covers are awesome.
I have the blue one with black carbon and absolutely love it. Mine feels little too snug and really feels like it's going to break when I need to remove it. If anything be careful when removing it as the plastic doesn't feel as flexible as the OEM cover. Very nice write up you did there. Also where did you find that TPU bumper that doesn't have the corner cut out on top? I ordered got a black one with the open corner and couldn't stand the way it fit.

I've just received the case, so I will try to report back in a few weeks to let you know how it's holding up in use.
First thing I want to touch on is the design. It's really a beautiful case. I hear people talking about how their otterbox or body glove case enhances the look of the phone and I just don't see it. I prefer something clean and minimalist, that goes with the aesthetic of the phone. I think this case hits that, of course it's all personal preference.
It's very thin, and doesn't add noticeable bulk in the jeans pocket. It's easy to get in and out of the pocket, the material is grippy in the hand but doesn't grab onto my pockets.
The cutouts are really well done, they may look a little bit off in some of the photos but that is due to camera angle and lighting shadows, they are actually dead on. The volume rocker and lock button are just as easy to press, in fact maybe slightly easier due to the cutout guiding your finger onto the button. One small touch I really like is the slight lip around the camera cutout. It looks slick, but it also seems like something that will help the camera lens from getting scratched when setting it down on the table. It also has a slight lip on the top, so setting it down on a table will not get your screen dirty. I have the zagg invisbleshield on there (terrible product) and this case does not pull up the edges on that screen protector.
The texture of the case is the main difference between this and other slim hardcases, and it's a very nice feel. I was worried when I heard people comparing it to sandpaper, because sandpaper gives me that nails on chalkboard feeling when I touch it. But it's not like that, it's more like a river smoothed sandstone, with a touch of rubber feeling underlying it. It adds a bit of grip to the phone that the naked gs3 was missing, it won't be easy to drop, even if your hands are sweaty from working out.
Overall the fit and finish on this case is exceptional. I tried on a few tpu style cases at the mall, as well as some of the ones t-mobile was offering, and the quality on this blows all of those away. It snaps on easily and has a nice tight fit. The mold lines on the sides are only noticeable in just the right lighting, when looking real close. There is no flashing at all. It's nothing like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1765882
This is obviously not a case for those who need heavy duty drop protection, but if you want something with great design that makes the phone feel better in your hand give it a shot.
I snagged it on ebay from 168sunflowers20060621 , and I'm pretty sure it's not a fake. I paid $13.50 and it took about 2 and a half weeks to ship from HK.
Here's the rest of the photos:
Looks great, mine is sitting in my office right now....worked from home today. I'll pick it up tomorrow to play with. I was right with you on the light grey with the white S3.
Got a black one for my blue s3. I love it, and as stupid as it sounds the combination matches my Volvo s60r interior perfectly...not that i care or planned that....lol

Nice! My car has gray leather, I did not think about that until you mentioned it, but it is a good match! Haha. Post up a pic, I'd love to see how the dark grey looks.
I had the black version (for my blue phone) sitting on my desk at work two weeks before the phone was even available.
Awesome case, the phone won't slip out of your hands with this case installed.
Great review (and nice pics). I have a white carbon fiber back coming and wonder if it would fit in this case.
Looks like Amazon has it for 15.99 with free Prime shipping.

I kinda doubt it, the quicksand case is a really snug fit.

Dunno about the carbon fiber back, but jmorton is right, it's very closely fitted. That amazon link is the way to go, I def would have paid the extra $3 to get it in 2 days instead of 3 weeks. Not complaining though, I got good service and a good deal from the ebay seller.
I still haven't seen anyone pick up that plum color, i'm curious what it looks like in real life. Kinda reminds me of these: http://tantal.kalashnikov.guns.ru/pro11.html
+1 on the case. I have it and LOVE it. Adds the perfect amount of weight to the phone.
+1
I never used cases on my other phones, really don't care for them. I picked up this case because of the reviews and style. It may offer minimal protection, but for someone that doesn't like cases it will due. Hopefully work if i fumble the phone.
I got mine right after I got the phone, I love it. I was thinking about ordering the grey one, I have the black one!
edit - yep just ordered the grey one. can never have too many cases, right?
Well, I am in for one. Thanks OP. I will post how it fits with the carbon fiber back as well.

Please do, as I am indecisive on which one to get for my blue phone. I really didn't want to get a case, but seeing as how I dropped it on cement earlier tonight, i'm gonna have to in order to cover the dents/scratches up. :/

Sure thing, I'll take a few in the morning.'
here's the album I made - http://imgur.com/a/BcMmK
sorry for them being sideways, imgur was being stupid and not letting me rotate them
Case arrived this morning and in good order. There are a couple of rough edges which will need to be trimmed (at the bottom where I normally rest my pinkies as I type and the top corners).
It certainly adds a nice amount of texture to the device, but I haven't determined if my over sensitive skin will be able to handle the effect long term yet.
There is a negligible difference on weight with this case, and I found it slides in and out of my pocket easily.
For those of you who own one, can you see a visible molding line around the edge? This one is obvious in some places.

Mine is perfect (black one). Mine has no rough edges or visible molding lines whatever.
Finger dent from the case
Molding
And the final reason to return: the edges will quickly wear leaving a darker plastic beneath.
Thankfully I bought through Amazon, so returns shouldn't be an issue.

GS3 Storm Trooper Style

It's a combo of the white plastic bumper case you see floating around on the web and the OEM white flip cover.

I chose a pebble blue GS3 over the white because I actually don't like the way the white GS3 looks on the front when the screen is off (due to the contrast of the black screen to the white frame). But with this combo, there's very little bulk, great protection, decent grip and I got that Storm Trooper look!
I don't use the flip cover all the time as it does become annoying when you have to use the phone a lot or especially when taking pictures. I did get an extra white battery back which makes it nice to just have the white back and bumper (just imagine it without the white front).
Quite impressive! Never thought about doing something like this. Can you post a pic of the setup without the flap?
Thanks.
i really like this look, i saw the genuine samsung flip cover on it, could you put a link to the bumper?
Also i probably wouldnt want the flipcover on there all the time. i had an idea, to cut off the flip cover so i could reattach it when ever i put it in my pocket. how do you think that would work out?
You should put two small slits on that bumper at the edge of the flip.
The original bumpers I ordered
The aluminum bumper I'm waiting on
Pictures of the aluminum bumper as requested. I don't like it as much as the TPU and rubber bumper because it adds significantly to the overall size of the phone. REALLY feels big i my hand now. As you can see the ports and buttons are now set so deep from the bumper exterior that certain cables just don't reach and it's now difficult to press power/volume. Aluminum FEELS awesome, though. Will continue to look for a bumper that's thinner profile and metal feel like this one. Protection is exceptional due to thickness. I actually dropped my phone from about 5' in our server room today onto a tiled floor. No damage to the phone and just wiped a smudge off the bumper.
The neodymium magnets I ordered to try to see if I can make the front cover detachable
These magnets are small enough where I might be able to insert them into/under the front cover and attach to (inside?) the bumper. I'm not too worried about the cover falling off as if you put enough of these in the right place, they're pretty hard to pull apart - I'm actually more worried that the magnets would make the flip come apart in time if I insert them inside the flip. Too bad I can't find a stainless steel bumper as aluminum isn't magnetic. If anyone has seen one, please link me to it.
That looks awesome.
How do you feel about the rubber bumpers? They look pretty cool. Do the side buttons lose any responsiveness?
Might have to get myself one of those
Please let us know how that white aluminum bumper works out for you... I think I might need one.

thanks. rubber bumpers are cool because they give the grip that's missing when the rest of it is glossy and smooth, so it's a nice contrast not just in terms of color but texture. Because of the side buttons being under the rubber part, they work well - maybe I accidentally trigger volume/power a lot less than i used to without. Responsive as needed w/o being hyper sensitive to touch.
on another note, another reason i wanted to do just the back and the bumper is I wanted to do the palm pre/touchstone hack for inductive charging. With this setup the little lump caused by squeezing the Palm Pre inductive coils into the back battery cover is lessened by the bumper so it lays flat on the table. Other people who just have the back and maybe a TPU case over it have this wobbly situation because it's not flat. This bumper alleviates that. Charges well through the battery back on the Touchstone while still feeling like it's protected due to the bumper.
This is awesome man! Can you make a YouTube vid? Please!

Nice - If i used a full case I'd throw a kickstand version on instead of just a regular case - might as well go all out if you're adding the extra thickness.
That's the only thing I'm missing on mine - thinking of adding an insert that stows away on the back and when you pull it out and stick it back in the top of the bumper becomes a kickstand.
There's actually a pretty cool kickstand case I got for one of my users that has a kickstand, but not sure the Palm wireless charging mod would work with it. I love the wireless charger, though and that's why i used a bumper.
in case anyone missed, i added pictures of the new aluminum bumper in post #5.

Packaging:
As per Diztronic Style, the packaging is minimalistic. Simple and easy to open. It's nice to not to see money isn't going for flash of presentation but towards substance to the actual product.
Build Quality/Design
Once again, Diztronic opted for a two tone style; where the majority is this nice soft matte finish with accents of glossy black. It's designed very tastefully. The gloss accents flows well with the matte finish and is seemless in its presentation. The front bezel/frame is glossy and the rest is almost entirely matte black. One very nice touch I'd like to point out, the "buttons" are matte but are outlined with the gloss finish border. It made the buttons "pop" out more and was just very visually appealing imo. Also, the cutout for the camera is outlined in the gloss finish to breakup the dominating matte finish on the back. The biggest difference between the this case and the older one would be the back, it has a "window" showing the nexus logo. There is a plastic film protector that I didn't remove when taking the pictures but its a nice clear sturdy plastic. Last; the Diztronic logo was moved from the back to the side at the bottom right (also in the Gloss finish). Very nice job Diztronic, the style of the case flows very well that isn't too dull and boring but a nice blend of aesthetic cues and functionality.
Also, the "frame" around the edges of the phone isn't the same all the way around. The corners have more plastic to be able to endure harder drops. It's not blatantly obvious but noticeable under close inspection . See pictures to see the "bumper" corners. The back also has very small rubber feet when laying the phone down on its back. I believe its to prevent too many scratches on the clear plastic window. Like the last version, the front border is lifted so the screen isn't touching the table when placed faced down.
As like the last case, the "buttons" on the case are the nicest feeling and looking buttons I've come across on any tpu case. They looks and feel like actual buttons. Pressing them is easy and works like pressing the real buttons on the Nexus 5 itself.
All cutouts are placed/cut correctly with everything lining up just fine. The cutouts for ports are big enough for the use of mostly any usb cable or headphone plug. The fit is pretty much perfect, the plastic isn't too stiff where its impossible to the get phone in the case but not too soft where it feels cheap. When in the case the Nexus 5 seems solid in hand w/ a good weight to it. It's what I look for in the compromise between slimness and protection in a case.
Conclusion
This is my new favorite case for the Nexus 5. It's a solid performer for a good price! Diztronic has hit another homerun with this case.

It feels slimmer and more ridgid, the finish makes it easier to hold and, because of the reinforced backing, feels much sturdier. I have the Neo Hybrid and the Voyeur is better in almost every way. Diztronic really hit it out of the park with this one.
Also, while I've been a critic of the glossy lip, it's much less pronounced on the Voyeur than it is on the standard matte case, and that's a major plus for me. I will say however that my buttons, while tactile, aren't as tactile as the OP's. Granted, there is a break-in period on TPU cases (especially the buttons), so I'll report back in a few days.
Buy this case.
I see that you have both diztronic cases, between both which do you think has more button feedback? I have the original one, waiting on my Voyeur  and thanks for the review!
Hmm, I'm not sure I like the circular glass shape on the back.
The way it exposes the logo through glass isn't very appealing to me.
