Hey All
Today I picked up an HTC One M8.
Have set it up and only had it up and running for a few hours.
I plugged it in to charge using the charger that came with it and noticed that the screen would become erratic. Phantom touches would register making it very hard to use. Have tried it in different sockets but the issue remains.
I have tried a spare charger that I have in the house and the issue is not present.I know the HTC charger is a little different in that it supports some kind of quick charger, so its not really a like for like swap I guess.
Is there a chance that the included charger is faulty? Or could the phone be at fault?
I really don't want to have to return it but will it it looks like its the phone that has an issue.
Thanks
Well, at this point its hard to guess from here. Can you upload some snaps/videos ? It would be helpful for anyone who visits the thread. It doesn't take much time either. :good:
Is it a brand new phone? if not I think the digitizer is going bad.

Yeah it's brand new. Phone is fine off charge and when using other charges. It's just the stock charger tat seems to cause issues.

Do you have a case on your phone? I have a UAG case and the charger sometimes doesn't fully click leading to that behaviour. Without the case there is no problem using the phone while charging.
Maybe the stock charger is faulty. Probably the wires has lost continuity.
I have the same issue with a unofficial charger (2.0A).
No issue with original charger (1.5A)
You are not alone
I also have a HTC One M8 with the same problem!
I have to disconnect the USB cable so that I can use the phone correctly without 'phantom touches' activating things I didn't want.
A classic example is pressing the back button will more often than not take me to google now. It's not supposed to do that. It only ever does this when charging.
Also when using any app the phantom touches will activate things I didn't want it to. Some apps will indicate which button you clicked and this is the perfect way to see this problem in action, because buttons will be clicking that you didn't even touch.
It's almost like the touch screen becomes ridiculously sensitive and even just a touch of breeze from a fan can activate a phantom touch.
My phone has done this since brand new. I've had the phone for around 3 months now. There was a software update since I had the phone and it didn't fix the problem.
It does this for me with the stock USB cable, samsung USB cable, generic USB cable, charging from AC/PC/Car it doesn't matter.
It even has the problem when the battery is at 100% with the cable connected.
The only way to accurately use the phone is to unplug the cable!

Erratic Touch on Verizon HTC One M8
This has been driving me mad.
Got Verizon Variant Red HTC One M8 near the beginning of August.
I bought a spigen clear case, a longer usb cable, and a 2AMP charger to use at work. I was chewing through the battery while playing Clash of Clans on it at work.
I pretty much always turn on visual feedback for touch on my smartphone now and noticed sometimes while playing Clash I would see multiple touches go in a horizontal line across my screen (if you do not know you play clash of clans in a horizontal position so technically the lines would run vertically down the phone)
I also have a tempered glass screen on my phone so I figured it was some kind of freak nuance with the case pushing the glass or something.
Bought a UAG Case for my phone, few days later I notice the same behavior, bought cases have a small "lip" to protect the screen if you drop the phone face down, I again figured this must be the culprit and bought a new case.
Barely there Clear case by casemate, I have had the case for 3 days and today is my first day at work since, immediately upon connecting my charger I noticed the erratic touch behavior.
At this point I realized it was never the case, it has to be something with charging in general or the specific charger I am using.
Anyone got any clue what is actually causing this issue?

Hi guys, any news?
I'm experiencing the same issue and this is driving me mad.
Experiencing this with different chargers. My cover is a Spigen Ultra Hybrid Metal Slate...if I put it off, theres no problem while charging
Greetings from Switzerland
Hi guys,
I have faced the issue as well. In my case, if I charge the phone using the dot view case then the touchscreen behaves wrongly. However, if I charge the phone with no case at all it works fine.
Anyway after I flashed the latest firmware (.401.6) the problem is gone. What firmware do you have?
Cheers.
Hi Guys,
For anyone interested, I have just noticed that it happened depending on the charger also.
Cheers.
I have the same problem
Using htc one m8 developer edition 4.4.2. This issue comes with every charger. With or without case or screen protection.
Yep, I've noticed this issue as well. Any solution?

If it's brand new, take it back for a replacement. The sooner the better because the longer you wait, the more they may think it is user caused.
I just got my phone replaced due to bad mic. I had a brand new one on release day and now I got a refurb both suffered the same issues. It's not always that it does it but it certainly pisses you off. Same symptoms as the op describes, I have yet to find a permanent solution.
This is so super irritating. I feel you. I just found out though that it occurs when I have my case on.. So whenever i use the phone when I'm charging I have to pull the case off. It really doesn't make any sense lol but this is my workaround for this bug.
I also have the same problem
It seems to occur when the phone is close to full charge. Every app goes crazy. When I unplug the charger it returns to normal.

I have the same issue with mine; I found a website which said to do the following:
Using two fingers swipe down on the status bar then touch the gear icon > Display & Gestures > G-Sensor calibration
Place your phone on a flat surface then touch Calibrate.
After the calibration process has finished tap Ok.
You should also calibrate the finger touch on your screen to deal with the keyboard issue.
Open “Settings” and go to “Language and Keyboard”
Tap “HTC Sense Input”
Tap “Advanced”
Tap “Calibration tool” (Calibrate your screen for a better touch experience)
Now you are asked to type the given sentence
One done, Calibration Complete message appears
Hit “Reset Calibration” to reset screen to factory default

It's still present, but it hasn't been as bad - I turned on the visual feedback in the developers settings, and you can watch the cursor fly all about the screen like it's possessed!
Same issue here, on the latest software. This is my second m8 with the same issues.
hello!
Had my nexus 7 2013 WIFI for about a year. Its in a moko hard case. Yesterday it was dropped on carpet but from about 9 ft high, it continued to work. The next morning, it was power on but no display. once i plugged it in, display came on. battery was not discharged. by evening, no display at all. snowy screen once. the tablet boots up fully. ADM can locate and ring the device, it shows on my wifi router etc. But no display at all. the closest to display it came is showing the Google logo during boot up.
so it looks to me like the screen connector came loose.
EDIT: Ok, i opened the back case. Yes, it is the loose screen connector. if i press down on the gold ribbon connector, screen is on. now i got to figure out how to fix it.
can someone help me fix this?
Final edit: I fixed the display ribbon connector by inserting it into its connector firmly. everything is well.
thank you

if you have spent anytime on these forums, you will notice there are several hw problems for which other users have provided valuable insights. nothing wrong in asking for help
I am on my second Pixel C where the backlight has stopped working after a month. The screen still works, if I shine a light at it just right I can see the contents (especially when they are white), but the backlight just doesn't come on. The previous one did this on and off for about a week while waiting for the replacement, meaning it would occasionally come back on and work for a little while. But, right before the replacement arrived, it went off and never came back on. My replacement did it for the first time today (it is one month old now), I connected to my laptop when I got home and issued an "adb reboot", and it appears to be working again. I have requested a refund from Google, but they said they couldn't authorize it, so I have filed a dispute with my credit card company in order to get my money back.
Overall, I like the device. I have had to work around a few of its shortcomings, but everything was satisfactory. I just can't keep replacing something every month.
Has anyone else experienced this? I mean, I know how to search and have found similar reports, this exact issue. Where the screen still comes on and is visible under the right lighting conditions, but the backlight is just non-functional. If so, what was the recourse you took to solve it? I have tried not putting it in my case (thinking that was the problem), rebooting (which occasionally has worked, but not always), factory resets (real tough without being able to see), plugging it in when malfunctioning, leaving adaptive brightness disabled, cursing at it and throwing my hands up in the air in frustration, etc. Nothing reliably works, and now I am afraid to let it go to sleep seeing how it came back after the reboot today.
Thanks for reading this...
My Pixel C started doing this last week. Wasn't so bad at first, but it's slowly gotten worse and starting last night the backlight will go hours without turning on. I've tried charging it, hooking it up to my computer, and just finished a factory reset and nothing has worked. Just like you if I shine a light at the right angle I can see things, but that's not exactly fun to do. Bought it at the end of March, so it almost made it 4 months.
One thing I should add, and this is probably a coincidence, is it started happening right after I downloaded the July updates. I only mention this in case someone else has had a similar experience.
My second one had gotten even worse, the screen sometimes comes on now, but the right half is either just fuzz or completely distorted, and the touch screen is non functioning.
I have ordered a Samsung galaxy tab s2, and will get my money back either from Google (doubtful), or my credit card company. Hope Samsung updates it at least to N.
I'm so torn, when it worked the pixel was awesome, I love the screen, closest any has come to the ratio of my camera. But two in a row only lasting a month each, and it's hard to consider a third, or fourth...
Sorry yours is glitching out on you, hope you get a satisfactory resolution.
I have the same problem. Exactly like you describe above. Since my Pixel C is one month out of warranty there is nothing I can do except warn others not to buy this product,
Oliver Browne.
Same here for me. First one started with screen issues as described above, lucky for me i was 3 days before the end of waranty, second one lasted 93 days... 3 days out of waranty for a replacement device! Thanks Google for a cheap device...

I face the same issue, and was able to turn on the backlight by adjusting its brightness using the touch screen. Try shining a torch onto it while locating the brightness setting. This temporary fix works for me every time, and hope it helps someone.
Trying the torch was very useful! I now know for a 100% that the backlight doesn't work. I used the torch to see what I was actually doing on the screen, and erased all data & cleaned the cache.
Unfortunately the backlight stayed off, so I assume it's a hardware issue.
I've sent an email to Google support, hopefully they can get this one fixed or replaced.
did you manage to fix your issue ?
Same issue here, and no not resolved.
The only thing I can do to work around it is keep tapping the power button every second. Eventually you get lucky and the backlight will turn on. (Rebooting doesn't seem to be needed.)
Hi all,
I bought this tablet as a gift for my little brother. He encountered the very same issue 2 or 3 weeks ago, and it became worse today, as now backlight won't turn on anymore, even after a reboot and a factory reset.
It must be a hardware issue...
I will try to contact their after sales service, as the tablet isn't even 6 months old.
HI, my first Pixel c met this issues after 20 months... first it was only sometimes and backlight came back after some pushes on the power button... but it get worst and worst: 2 days without backlight and at the end half screen fuzzy issues. I order a replacement product with my warranty (2 years in Europe)... and now my second Pixel meets the same issue... with a no responding screen issue too... it's awful and my warranty is over yet... nothing can fix this...! something seems to be bad quality in this device....
I'm on my 2nd pixel c and final. Google support said that because they had replaced it under warranty the warranty only applies to the original purchase date not the replacement which seemed BS to me because I was shipped a refurb tablet
Never the less using adb/ fast boot I was able to get the device into bootloader and blindly reload the entire operating system. It was only until I performed a wipe within TWRP that the screen started working again. Interesting and now off it is working for the past hour or so. Currently applying latest updates but not holding my breath. Unfortunately it looks like Google is killing off the tablets and I don't know if any of their Engineers have actually tried to use a Chromebook in place of a tablet but it just doesn't translate well. If I cannot get this device working reliably I may buy another refurb to get a few more years out of it. The pixelbook is way too heavy for Couchsurfing
The screen comes and goes with no particular interaction. I'm really bummed because I had gotten so used to this device. I buy another but I'm afraid it's going to happen again. I don't see any tablets that are upgrades either. The Android tablet days are over. Pixelbook is not intuitive. Although it runs Android apps it does so very poorly with in Chrome OS and it's very bulky. I'm a try my luck with another refurb off eBay. Have not been able to find anyone that can repair it
So, I received my pixel 2xl and one of the first things I did was connect it to my car infotainment system via Bluetooth. I noticed I had a lot of static during phone calls. Mind you I don't have this issue with my iPhone 6 or S8 plus connected to the system. I contacted Google and they sent me an email with steps to troubleshoot, still no go. While fiddling with the phone I noticed whenever anything covered the back glass panel I would notice the static even more. I was wondering if anyone else is having this issue.
Long story short Google is sending me a replacement (Sucks they had to hold $1000+ on my credit card to ensure they receive the original phone back lol)
I had this same issue with my 6p back in the day. When I would stream music to my bluetooth speaker at work it was fine but as soon as I had to crouch down or something with the phone in my pocket, the bluetooth would cut out. Google apparently puts all their eggs in that glass basket and if you cover it you get nothing.

Hmmmm I see. It's quite annoying. Glad they are sending another one. Hope it doesn't have the same issue.
Happens with last year's xl too.

Hey All
Last year i made the switch from iPhone to Samsung S8+ and i love it! Never going back
A couple days ago i updated my software and my LED view cover was working fine. I left my phone in my bag and went in for an exam at uni, came out and the LED notification's had stopped working! I've looked everywhere for an answer and i can't seem to find one on how to fix this! I didn't turn anything off or edit any settings as it was in my bag. I've never had my NFC turned on so i know that isn't the problem. As far as i can tell the LED icon app is up to date. Weird thing is, the case still locks my phone when i close the cover and when i plug it in to charge the LED battery icon still comes up. So i'm getting no notifications, no time showing up and no battery percentage. I've checked and all notification settings are the same, nothing has changed. Has anyone else had the same problem and know how i can fix this? Thanks in advance
- J
Same for me. Lost the recepit and am stuck with it
Unfortunately LED covers aren't very robust. I also like it a lot (as it can be used to cut all unwanted notification), but unfortunately they don't last long.
Mine lost its touch sensor after a few months and the LEDs stopped after 1.5 years. The screen start/stop function was the only thing still working. Customers are often complaining about this, so this is not an isolated case.
What's worse, I think the cover is considered as an "accessory" and not as an "electronic device", so you get only a 6 month warranty and not 2 years.
Anyway, the price of the cover is quite low right now; finally I bought a new LED cover on Amazon for only €20 (which is about the price of a 3rd party dumb cover).
