Please help .might really be bricked - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I unlocked and installed twrp and 4.4.3 gpe rom on an att m8. Then tried to update to 4.4.4 and my phone went into bootloop. I booted to bootloader and now its a black screen and hboot 3.18.0.0000. Now when I try to load recovery , the twrp image comes up blinks a couple times and goes into boot loop. I've tried reflashing recovery but it doesn't seem to help.
I cant seem to get anything to work. All I can do is play around with the bootloader and fastboot
help please

this totally sucks

First of all delete your serial and IMEI asap. And try this fastboot command :
Fastboot erase cache
Then enter the recovery

failed remote not allowed
any other ideas

Failed remote not allowed is in most cases an indication that the bootloader is locked/relocked

First unlock your phone . Download a compatible kernel for your att m8 4.4.x.
Extract kernel.zip and flash boot.img with adb in fastboot.

If cwm Philz is working take another Rom and flash it...what's the problem? Or all recoveries are broken? There are also complete stock Roms take one of them root it and s-off...if Firewater doesn't work use sunshine, it's really worth it to pay 25$ if you say that phone is going into garbage...means you want to buy another one...except try to s-off it and yea...also if you want to update the Rom via official ota you need always the stock recovery otherwise it will never work...

philz works for 8 seconds then bootloops and twrp just blinks then bootloops. I cant flash any rom so their is no chance of firewater or sunshine. thanks for the 25$ offer but I think ill call htc and pay to have the motherboard replaced or just smash it to pieces and buy another phone.
Is their any way of changing the cid without s-off? I think I remember getting supercid on the m7 without s-off

No other way...but you can try something.....I think there are different twrp or Philz images because of the different variants of the phone...so try to get the real one for your device..maybe that should be the problem...if not try fastboot erase cache ..but I think it's more because of the wrong image..
All those things are user issues so no need to bash HTC or the phone because you are doing things wrong

I 100% agree with you that it is completely my fault and not HTC. Im not bashing HTC at all, I'm going to buy another m8. Smashing would just make me happy after spending 9 hours so far trying every possibility over and over.
It is totally bricked though. I had another m8 before this phone and upgraded the same way but it was s-off and I didn't have this problem. Firewater didn't work on this phone. The problem is that something is corrupted and their is no correct ruu for 3.18 hboot with CWS__001.

Screwed Up Need Help URGENT

Hi. My phone has had issues with not being able to be mount backups on TWRP and have tried everything to fix the problem with no luck. I read somewhere on a post that the only way I can fix my problem is to relock my bootloader and flash a RUU which I'm in the process of doing now. This all started when I accidentally deleted my system files (which was stupid) in TWRP. Have I screwed up and will I be able to flash the RUU onto my phone.
NEVER do anything until you got the correct files. Who says there is a RUU ? we need info.....
Post the outcome of :
Fastboot getvar all (and del the IMEI & SERIAL)
Can you enter the bootloader and the recovery ?

Thanks for the quick response, it's really late right now but hopefully I can post those details tomorrow morn. I can enter bootloader/hboot which my computer recognizes. Though I have relocked the bootloader which I can easily unlock, it's status is relocked. My recovery (TWRP) was killing me though as every time I pushed a file through adb which was received the bloody program spat out an error every time about being unmountable to the system and cache. I know I shouldn't have rooted my device if I didn't know what I was doing and what did you mean about not having the correct files? I did have a cm11 stable backup but that wouldn't "mount to disk" either. From what I have heard I think this is a soft brick which would mean it is repairable? Or is it just a lost cause?
Also if this helps, I am s-on and wiped my dalvik, cache, data and accidents the system. I also have a 32 gb sd card installed on the device.
Cool. The easiest way is to unlock the bootloader, load a rom.zip (preferably) a sense 6 (close to stock rom like arhd or maximus) and perform a full wipe in the recovery and install the rom.zip via the recovery (external sd)
See if there are any errors in this process

Tried this, if I try to load a rom onto my m8 it will automatically fail. The rom is not able to be mounted to anything. I also tried flashing a boot.img to try to get it to startup but it also failed from the same reasons as flashing a sense base rom and cm11. Also before I cleared the system partition I had a gpe rom installed if that helps.
Was it a complete gpe or just a Rom? Also if Roms are failing to install get the sdcard from the phone and use a card reader...then put the zip on it and flash it..normally a boot.img fastboot should be flashed without problems
Read this thread carefully, it has info about not mounting issues !

LOL People rely on having a ruu to much. Good luck in finding one for him. Since he is s-on it has to match his official main too because downgrading is not an option (with a ruu)

GOD YES!, i've somehow managed to get the bloody device to boot up but now its stuck in a bootloop. I think i opened up a custom rom extracted the boot.img file and flashed it to something (not sure what). Does this mean i have to manually replace each partition (data, cache, system ect.) with a part of a rom?
I would install a fresh rom via the sdcard.
And you "think" you opened a rom.zip and flashed a boot.img ? Seriously .....

ok just pm'ed him, hope he can respond soon. As for the state of my phone, is it soft or hard bricked? I just can't tell the difference because other people in the same situation as me have given up.
Its soft......as long as you can reach the bootloader it could be fixed.

[Q] Stuck in bootloader with Security warning.

I have been rooted for a few weeks and decided to go back. Well I had S-off but when I started the transition to stock I turned s-on and that is when the **tampered** flag came on. I stupidly continued using the code (fastboot oem lock) which gave me the **Relocked** status but now I have a security warning and It will ONLY boot into bootloader. I have tried multiple times re-flashing TWRP and I cant get it to go into recovery. From what I have read I need to flash stock rom onto it but I cant get into the recovery to flash or even sideload. So where should I go from here? Everything I need to do requires S-off and I cant seem to get it.

I've been S-Off since day one so double check everything but this will get you in the right direction. You need to S-off and unlock, flash an RUU and then relock (to remove the red text warning). Going back to S-on I understand is pretty dangerous and appears to be unnecessary. Go to this thread and start with the 3rd tutorial to re-S-off. If you can get S-off'd the rest should be pretty easy.

That should be early enough to use Firewater on. Let me know if you run into problems because I can help via team viewer.
@pmterp & @dottat Thanks for the reply and that sounds like a good idea but I have to push the file via adb. I cannot get there because I am stuck in the fastboot section. So I don't think firewater or anything that uses adb will work.
Crud. I don't remember if you can get to RUU mode without being S-off. In fastboot the command is fastboot OEM rebootRUU If you can then you could re-RUU but I'm thinking you have to be S-off to get there. Hopefully someone else will chime in with some better ideas.

That is RUU mode and will accept an RUU file to flash at this point. I believe Uzephi is correct that the RUU you flash must be signed (which I think is the same as encrypted). I'm not sure where you would find them but I'm sure Google will be your friend on that. Be careful what version you flash because I think it can cause problems if you move down. I'm not sure how open he is to helping via PM (he's super helpful but also very busy) but if it were me I'd reach out via PM to @santod040 and ask for advice. He's a highly skilled dev who's been with this device a long time.
I think I might be in the same boat as jman036, only difference being that I'm on a later OS version (5.28.605.2). I've tried flashing signed RUUs for my particular OS version from both santod's and dottat's AndroidFileHosts but both give me this error:
"(bootloader) signature checking...
FAILED (remote: 12 signature verify fail)"
Sucks man.

Fastboot oem rebootRUU mode is supported in both s on/off scenarios. An s on user can always use this to reflash same firmware or even upgrading to newer firmware. Bootloader unlocked phones often take advantage of this before s off exploits are found.

Comedy of errors as I've soft bricked my phone

So I got all greedy and wanted Lollipop sooner than when my provider did an OTA.
I tried a bunch of roms and found that Cyanogen was able to work for my phone (a lot of others gave me that issue where the Wifi wouldn't work, I subsequently worked out this was a firmware issue).
In an effort to try and fix a number of bugs I've been attempting to get S-Off. I downloaded Sunshine but Sunshine told me my ROM wasn't close enough to stock for it. So I put another Rom on it, but then mysteriously I lost root access.
So I did a hard wipe.
And now I find myself unable to install any ROMs on it at all (I'm trying to find a stock Kitkat one that will hopefully run).
So I can't get S-Off. I'm not even sure if it's still rooted (though I do have Philz installed and that loads when I put it into recovery mode). And so I'm not even remotely sure what I should do.
Yay!
Bricked mine too!

I just joined this forum, so I don't know if I should be posting here or on a new thread, so let me know I can delete this, move it if I'm out of line.
I'm in the same boat. Just softbricked my girlfriend's Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900a)
Her phone was unlocked AT&T and it auto updated to 5.0 Lollipop update OTA about a week ago.
It's been running like **** so I thought I'd downgrade it to 4.2.2 via ODIN
ODIN (failed) trying to install
G900AUCU1ANCE_G900AATT1ANCE_G900AUCU1ANCE_HOME.tar.gz
I read in one of these forums that downgrading wouldn't work but they found a work around
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785363
Oh yeah and then my phone bricked so there is that, my GF is being really understanding but I'm hoping I can recover this!!!!
Edit: My problem was resolved here

your mistake is using CWM recovery, Sense custom roms require TWRP recovery, so you need to start by flashing the latest version of that.
once flashed, go in and do a full wipe. dont forget after wiping to reboot back into recovery for the changes to take effect, when you go to reboot it will say something like you have no OS installed, are you sure you want to reboot, just say yes, and select DO NOT INSTALL to SuperSU, the rom you falsh will be pre rooted.
TWRP latest version supports MTP, so when your in recovery main window, plug your phone into the computer and your sdcard and internal storage will open on your computer, just copy a rom to your sdcard, once copied, unplug your phone and install it.
use something like ARHD 41 or Maximus HD, they are close enough to stock for sunshine to work.
have a look here for a rom, dont download anything too modded or fancy as you'll be coming away from stock then http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development

on a slightly different note, you dont need s-off to flash a firmware or RUU depending on your current firmware, can you post your fastboot getvar all without your imei and serial number please.

your going to need s-off and convert your phone im sorry, doesnt seem to be anything about for your phone, firmware or RUU's.
You'll need to convert to get the latest firmware on your phone, unless you have it via an OTA or something like that ? convert to WWE 401 or Dev Edition 1540, currently your on 980 Austraillia Unbranded.
once you get s-off, convert is easy, all you need to do is change your CID number with a fastboot command, change your MID number, flash the firmware for Dev Ed or WWE, and then run the RUU.

I've got a sneaking suspicion that the ARHD and Maximus ROMS I'm finding won't mesh with the firmware I've got. I think.

they should still install and run, your may have a few problems like wifi, but it should effect them installing and booting, try this one insted, its stock for your firmware version, https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934516545
You just need to make sure you flash with TWRP not CWM. http://dl.twrp.me/m8/

use this rom instead: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934516545 its full stock rom, flash in TWRP still, and closest matching to your firmware, its KitKat not Lollipop.

Just keeping you updated, finished dowloading the above rom, flashed it and it seems to be working (mind you, my wifi still ain't working with that ROM, but I can live with that). Sunshine is now S-Off-ing as we speak so this is as much progress as I've made in 2 days!!
What should my next step be after getting S-Off?

easiest thing for you to do is change your cid first, change it to WWE HTC__001 the command is fastboot oem write cid HTC__001 (thats 2 underscores, CID number is always 8 characters long)
so with your phone in the bootloader fastboot usb mode and plugged into the computer, run these3 commands
fastboot oem write cid HTC__001
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
next is to change you mid, so enter recovery and put this file on your SDcard http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2779524
install it like you would with a rom, and follow the instructions on screen, when given the options to select mid to change to, select the one for WWE international.
when you have finished those 2 things, post your fastboot getvar all again please, should be a new and updated one, again without imei and serial number

I never bother with superCID, always seems to cause me more headaches than good.
the 2 best cid's to go for in my books are HTC__001 WWE (world wide engish) or BS_US001 Dev edition, they get the fastest updates.

Brilliant. I'll take your advice. You've got it all right so far.
See this guiy here did the same thing, but he is complaining that he's not got the next update yet, it because he hasnt changed his cid number, he needs to be on HTC__001, everytrhing else is done right, this is from the Australlian thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60272806&postcount=662
your fastboot getvar all should look like his when your done, only yours should say HTC__001 for the cid.

Post the results of fastboot getvar all Delete the serial# and IMEI from the output. That is private information.
There may be an RUU that you could run to update, and your getvar will give the information that is needed to determine that.

I'm not sure that Lollipop is even available for the Middle East/Egyptian model. Your best bet would be to spend $25 for Sunshine S-Off, convert to superCID, and update with WWE/International firmware. You could also try to change your MID to 0P6B10000 and update that way, but there is a very real risk of bricking if you do that.
---------- Post added at 07:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:22 PM ----------
You could also try this. No guarantees that it will work, but it might (your CID is listed as compatible, but the MID makes me wonder). You won't brick, you will just get error ouputs if it doesn't
Download this RUU.zip
Rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip (that's a zero, not the letter) and place it onto the root of your extSD.
Boot into bootloader and select hboot if it doesn't do that automatically.
Follow the prompts (vol up to flash, power button to reboot)
That's it.
After you are done make sure to delete the renamed file from your SD card, otherwise every time you boot to bootloader it will try tro update again.
Good luck!

Your radio version is the same as mine, and I'm on WWE so there is nothing to worry about there. You won't receive OTA updates MID. You can still update via RUU when the next version comes out, or you can get S-Off and just flash the firmware. I should have already let you know; and I am sorry that I forgot to mention it; but the RUU will wipe your phone so make sure you backup everything that is important to you. Make a backup to your extSD. That won't get wiped.

Hi. I don't mean to hijack this post or whatever but I have the same problem with the same MID and CID. I bought the phone from Riyadh and I am not receiving any OTA. I tried that RUU and it failed giving me the following error:
Code:
Model ID incorrect!
Update Fail!
Device halted due to Large Image update fail!
Press <POWER> to reboot.
EDIT: I did get the Stagefright fix by OTA if that helps somehow.

I hava the same problem. The Ruu you just provided was from the htc official rom downloads page right?
And, will this model effect the custom roms to be flashed?like would i be able to flash arhd on it (the same mid as OP and unlocked) without bricking it?
I thought samsung's variantd were insane but htc is driving me nuts ?

I thought samsung's variantd were insane but htc is driving me nuts

It's a zip made from the official RUU.
It won't affect which ROMs you can flash.
If you have the same model as the OP, it won't work. You will need to get S-Off and change your MID first.

It'll boot up fine. Don't worry.

I see you issue solved itself. But just FYI, the above RUU would not have worked on your phone. You can't just run any RUU, it needs to match your carrier ID (CID) and model ID (MID). You can change CID and MID, but only with s-off.

Htc One M8 help

So here's my predicament, a long while ago i had installed a rom to my phone assuming i had done everything correctly. This ROM i installed is the Bad Boys One M8 L Sense 7 v 1.0, it is currently still what I'm currently using. What I've been trying to do for days now to return my phone back to stock. My bootloader is unlocked and s-off. I have been unable to install any ROM whatsoever besides the current bad boyz rom. Also when trying to use sunshine, it seems to also encounter problems. If anyone can offer some help or a method to go about fixing this it would greatly appreciated.

For Sunshine to work, flash MaximumHD , or you could also flash ViperOneM8 (suggested by JCase, one of the Sunshine devs) for it to work.
If you want to go back to stock, you need to provide more info. Post the results of fastboot getvar all here (minus your IMEI and serial#), and I or someone else here will be able to give you proper directions.

Not much to figure out.
Hook your phone up to your PC, get into ADB/fastboot, and enter the command fastboot getvar all.

I've tried running the appropriate RUU; I've tried flashing other roms with no success; I just can't seem to get the correct directions on what I need to do. If anyone has any ideas it will all be very appreciated.

You are S-On, so to run the RUU successfully you'll need to re-lock your bootloader first.
In fastboot : fastboot oem lock
Then run the RUU again
I did try that but it kept failing, I'll try one more time.
Like I thought, it failed again, error 155:
ERROR [155~159]: IMAGE ERROR
One of these error messages will appear when you use the incorrect RUU to update and the image file size is larger than the Flash ROM size. In this case, download the correct RUU version and try again.
I'm downloading the correct RUU. http://www.htc.com/us/support/rom-downloads.html - The HTC One M8.

Error 155 is common for MM RUUs, as there is a peculiarity with the MM RUUs, in which you can't upgrade from LP (or KK for that matter) by RUU unless you first run the MM firmware.zip.
Try flashing the full signed firmware 6.20.651.3 from the following thread (with instructions on how to flash) then run the RUU 6.20.651.3 again:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2729173
Or your other option is to flash the 4.25.651.18 RUU (same thead) and OTA to MM.

Hard to know what you are talking about, if you don't supply the required specifics (what ROMs exactly).
But only ROMs that specifically support Sprint, will work on your phone, due to kernel differences between Sprint and most other versions of the M8.
Running the MM RUU isn't going to change this fact. It seems your goal is to be able to install other ROMs?
What kind of specifics do you need?
I haven't been able to get any other roms to work. The ruu meant for my phone keeps failing, the name of the ROM is what details my phone says,

I already asked exactly what ROMs you tried.
You say you can't get "any ROMs" to work, and only name one (that does work).
You probably are trying to flash ROMs that don't support the Sprint version M8.

Yup, and it will keep failing, if you just try the same thing over and over.
Did you try to do as I suggested in my post #10 above (flash MM firmware.zip, then try the RUU again)?
