[Q] How do LG update versions work? - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I was on V10g and today I got notified that there was a software update available. The changelog stated apps as only enhancements. I am rooted but decided to give it a try, I had no issues and when the update was done, I checked and I'm now on V10i and by the way, still rooted.
So, is this skipping the letter inbetween normal behavior? I also found weird that almost at the same time I was checking on the csmg.lgmobile site to see if any updates were available and I still saw "D85510g" as latest version, and I still see it if using the link now.
I've never had an LG phone before Thanks for the help!

I have had a similar issue.
Have the SEA software version but am in the UK
Was on 10g
Then last night got a notification of an update and went up to 10i
However, later when I connected with the LG PC Sync software it told me that I had an update and this reinstalled 10g again.
But once installed and I checked for OTA updates was told to upgrade back to 10i (which I did)
Seems to me that the PC Sync and OTA systems for software are not aligned

I also have SEA software and am in El Salvador. Exactly! PC suite is telling me that the latest version is 10g! Weird, I don't get how things are working

[Q] Skipping updates ?

Hello there !
New to XDA (been reading threads over 2 years though), I got my unbranded LG G3 (D855) about 2 months ago with firmware 10A.
I received OTA 10E at the end of July but did not apply it immediately as I'm rooted and have to use PC Suite to update.
However, i updated on 12th August and right after the instalation, the phone gave me a new OTA : 10G, released on 27th July...
So I'd like to know if it's possible to skip an update or if I have to take all of them every time ? Seems pretty strange though...
I read that 10G was not a top update so I'll pass on this one, but will I eventually get 10H or 10J without being on 10G ?
Thanks !
You can jump around as you wish. Back and forward, oldest to newest, makes no difference.
When you flash a firmware, the /system partition (as well as modems etc) is wiped by the flashing process, so updates are not cumulative.
Yeah i know that i can flash kdz directly, what i wanted to know was if OTA updates showed up only once you are on the version just before the new one ? Because i can do the official via pc suite without any issue, just having to root again, no big deal !
But also, wiping everything is not an obligation, right ? If you don't use CSE flash...

[Q] LG G3: Problem upgrading to 10L

Last week, LG G3 notified me of software upgrade, I was running 10i at that time. So I went ahead and upgraded. I was expecting to get 10L but somehow it upgraded from 10i to 10J. So now I am running V10J-SEA-XX. I am not able to get OTA update as it shows that I am running the latest version which is not true. It shows last update on 24th Oct 2014. I am in India, phone was purchased from Dubai.
In hope to get 10L, I installed the LG Mobile Software Tool and to my pleasant surprise, it showed me an upgrade. I started the upgrade process, it download 1136.13MBytes of upgrade and started upgrading my phone. It failed in first attempt and it prompted me to remove battery, restart and press retry button which I did.
On Second attempt, everything went smooth, phone was rebooted in the firmware download mode, I could see 0-100% progress and the entire upgrade completed as expected.
However, when phone was restarted, I see that I am still on the same software, V10J-SEA-XX. It even shows last update on 24th Oct 2014 ( OTA date). I restarted LG Mobile Software Tool and it again shown the update available. When I choose to upgarde, it again downloaded the same 1136.13MBytes file. This time upgrade process completed in first time itself. Unfortunately, I am still on the same version.
Any help will be appreciated.

Well, I saw a few threads, not sure the one you suggested but that solution is possibly applicable if the device was not recognized. Here I could see the progress on both LG tool and mobile so both are communicating fine. Pls correct me if I am wrong.
Anyway, changed the port to COM41 and trying again.
Update: Repeated the entire procedure with COM41. This solution doesn't work. I am still on the same V10J-SEA-XX.
.
Bump...can anyone help?
Thanks
Same Problem
Hi there sorry I can't help but I have the same problem.
Live in the UK but purchased an SEA version. Didn't realise it would cause me such an issue.
Unfortunately, I don't want to root my phone as it will possibly disable my Barclays Bank Mobile Banking app which is pretty useful to me.
My only hope is that LG will upgrade the SEA version to L when it does all the other regions as well.

Update G4 H815T through LG Bridge but after finishing nothing has happened

I have an unlocked, not rooted H815T. I connected the phone to LG Bridge it shows me there is an update (H815T10E) approximately 1.65 GB (Marshmallow?). After I start the update it goes through all the steps normally, even the phone restarts and installs a new firmware and it says Update Complete.
When it finishes the update and restarts nothing changes, i still have Android 5.1 and software version V10e-HKG-XX which i got OTA. When i reconnect to LG Bridge it still shows Update Available (H815T10E).
I have tried a couple of times and does the same thing.
Is this the Marshmallow update? What should i do?
same here
It's quite frustrating, I don't know what to do about it
I will try too and see how i go

That's becos what your flashing is a LP rom. H815T10E is LP not MM.

The issue I'm having is that every time I update successfully when I reconnect to LG Bridge it tells me there's a new update
I'm getting this too on a Mac . I've tried three times now which take 50 minutes as it seems to download the file everytime. Any update on this? Are others getting the error on windows or mac?
Still wiating for a reply, I'm on Windows 10
same issues here too
H815T10E is Lolliop 5.1 update, its not Marshmallow updates, so everything is fine with your phone, Marshmallow starts with H815T20A, after flashing H815T10E if its showing another update, do it as well, there is no wrong in it, there will be no Marshmallow update for H815T for months, this is LG and there millions of ignored variants, to make us feel better, Marshmallow may not get any major UI changes any ways, for us to wait for it i guess.
A little off topic, how you unlock H815T? I have a same model and want to unlock
I had not seen stupid things like this since the time of OK the price is right
I got the same issue both in Windows 7 and Windows 10.
Have any of you been able to root v10e on the H815T? I only found the root for v10b...
Have the same problem, keeps showing the same 1.6Gb update over and over. The HK update was released for some it seems though.
i have the exact same problem is there any way to fix this??
well is no one have any answers??
I just got OTA v20c-HKG-xx. Roughly an 800 mb update
Update vire lgup
This is how to get 6.0.0 on lg g4 h815t. I have done it just download lgup then download lg g4 h815 kdz and follow the gide povided on the forum and you can't go wrong.

Never received OTA updates since last november

Hi,
I bought my Honor 8 pro last november and i haven't got any OTA updates since then.
I'm still on DUK-L09C432B185. System updates is telling me there are no update as well as the HiCare app. It wouldn't let me download the full package either.
Firmware finder is telling me that there have been several updates since B185.
Do I still need to wait or is there something wrong? Living in the Netherlands btw if it matters. Phone is still stock so no root or whatever.
Is it carrier locked? Might be a carrier thing? Not so usual around the EU (thankfully) but thats what I come up with.
Otherwise, it should have had updates indeed.
It's (afaik) not locked to a carrier. Bought the phone myself (was not part of a subscription). Using it with a sim only from Tele2.
Already tried updating without sim card. No luck: still no updates available.
Got an update to DUK-L09 8.0.0.360(C432) in the meantime .
I contacted Huawei support and he told me my IMEI is authorised for a couple of updates (including Android 8) but could not explain why I was not receiving it. He advised me to send my phone in for repair.
Before doing that I decided to give firmware finder a shot. That worked! Even got a prompt for an update to 362 now.

The same mishap happened to me as well. Got no update since a minor OTA update that shipped with the phone which dated back to October 2017 I think. Mine is C675 (Indian) unit. Firmware Finder resolved it for me as it did for you. It's a pity how Honor handles its update distribution amongst other software related issues.
btw, how's your battery back up post Oreo update if I may ask?
Weird indeed.
I think my overall battery life improved but it's a bit hard to tell since I charge it in the car very often (Android Auto).
Yours?

Problems updating my G7 ThinQ

Hello, I'm new to this device and I'm just having troubles with it. I bought a branded LG G7 ThinQ and then, back home, I decided to flash stock firmware (no brand apps and so on); no troubles: it works perfectly. The Firmware I flashed was update to May security patch. Later, I found out that a new versione was released and I tried to update via OTA. No updates found. Then, I download LG Bridge on my PC and searched for updates. It found an update and I confirmed the flash, but unfortunately, the update process stops after downloaded the firmware and sideloaded to the device. LG Bridge now gives me an error saying that it can't be updated. What's the problem for you? My system version is V10b-222-01 and the build is OPR1.170623.032. I forgot to say I've already tried to flash the firmware downloaded through LG Bridge with LG UP with no results.

It's completely normal that you can no longer receive updates ota by changing firmware. It's the reason I decided to keep the tim branded firmware on my thinq. As for the lg bridge update, maybe it notices a discrepancy between your build number and/or fingerprint and your system version and so blocks the installation. I'm mostly guessing here, I'm not an expert. You might try going back to your branded firmware and see what happens.
I have the same problem, LG G7 thinq SW Version V10b 222 01. It's the original version, I didn't flash any other firmware.
