There are a few basics you need to get out of the way
before you can start this process:
This method will only work for a device that already
has an unlocked bootloader with a custom recovery, so
be sure that you have that before going forward.
Uninstall HTC Sync. The program is great way to get
the HTC One M8 drivers installed, which you will need
for this process, but it will interfere with the tool we
will be using to S-Off your M8.
Enable USB debugging .
Turn off all security settings from Settings -> Security .
Disable Fast boot mode from Settings -> Power/Battery
Manager .
You'll also want to make sure that you are using a USB
2.0 (not USB 3.0) port for this for compatibility
reasons.
Backing up your data is also necessary, just in case
anything goes wrong.
This process works best with a Sense-based ROM with
an insecure kernel, and you can flash InsertCoin in
order to have both of those bases covered.
This section (Steps 1 through 6) will show you how to
to get InsertCoin ready on your HTC One, but if you're
already running a kernel with an insecure kernel, you
can skip this section and proceed directly to the
Preparing Your Device & Downloading Firewater
section below.
We will be flashing the InsertCoin ROM so that we
have a Sense framework and kernel that fits all the
needs of the S-Off tool we are going to use. The
InsertCoin ROM can be downloaded directly from the
InsertCoin Team's website onto your device.
With the ROM downloaded, place your device into
Recovery mode by holding the Power and Volume Down
buttons at the same time, which will take you to the
following Bootloader screen:
Once in Bootloader mode, use the Volume Down key to
highlight Recovery and hit the Power button to boot
into TWRP.
Before going any further, you should make sure to have
a backup of your existing setup since we'll be
performing a full data wipe in the next step.
You can do this directly from TWRP using the Backup
option. After going through the S-Off process, you can
restore this backup to get all your apps, messages, and
settings back as they were before.
From the main TWRP menu, select Wipe , then
Advanced Wipe and check the Dalvik Cache, Cache,
Data , and System boxes, then Swipe To Wipe .
Now tap the Home button to get back to the main
TWRP menu and tap the Install option. Select the ROM
you downloaded, then Swipe to Confirm Flash .
After swiping you will need to go through the AROMA
installer to finish the flash. The installer will have extra
options and tweaks that you can choose to add to your
device, but those are only needed if you plan on
keeping this ROM after flashing. Once the process
completes, select the Reboot option.
If your device doesn't boot as quickly as usually, don't
panic, that is expected. Once it boots back up, go
through the initial setup process one more time, as you
did when first got your phone. Once your phone is set
up you will need to reenable USB Debugging.
Plug your M8 to your computer and open up terminal.
You'll also want to download the S-Off tool Firewater
and place it on your Desktop.
1. Reboot your device using ADB.
adb reboot
2. Once rebooted, push Firewater to your device.
adb push Desktop/firewater /data/local/tmp
If you didn't put Firewater on your Desktop, you are
going to need to change it to the appropriate directory.
3. You'll now need to change the permissions of
Firewater so that it can run on your device.
abd shell
su
chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/firewater
After typing su , check your device to see if your
Superuser app asks for your approval.
4. Run Firewater, and do not touch your device after the
process starts.
/data/local/tmp/firewater
5. Now simply agree to the terms and conditions when
prompted by typing "yes", then let firewater start
chugging.
You're all set, your M8 is now S-Off!
Now you are all set to flash custom firmwares, radios,
hboots, and lock/unlock your bootloader at will. This
will also come in hand when you run into boot issues or
just need to return your One to factory settings. Be
sure to leave me a comment below if you run into and
issues.
for convertion to gpe--
Once you see the bootloader menu, type fastboot
reboot-bootloader to prevent any errors from coming
up.
Now, to get your device into RUU mode, type fastboot
oem rebootRUU , and you'll know you're in the right
place when you see a black screen with a silver HTC
logo.
With your device ready to go, you are going to need the
RUU, or ROM Update Utility, for the Google Play
Edition. A RUU is a recovery file that contains the
stock ROM, radio, firmware, and recovery that ships
with your phone—in the this case, it will contain all the
Google Play Edition stock files.
Grab either the rooted or unrooted version, and to start
flashing the file you selected, place it on your desktop
and type the following into ADB:
fastboot flash zip RUU-
HTC_One_M8_GE-4.4-3.62.1700.16.zip
Change the last part to RUU-
HTC_One_M8_GE-1.16.1700.16_rooted.zip if you are
installing the rooted version.
In the command prompt, you will see a line that reads
FAILED (remote: 90 hboot pre-update! please flush
image again immediately) , which is to be expected. To
continue, just re-run the same command as before:
fastboot flash zip RUU-
HTC_One_M8_GE-4.4-3.62.1700.16.zip
Again, change the last part if you are flashing the
rooted version.
Once the flashing has begun, you will see a progress
bar appear under the HTC logo on your device, and
terminal will display the progress as well.
When flashing is complete, you will need to wipe the
cache to prevent boot-loops, and reboot your system.
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot
Your device will now reboot, and you will need to go
through the setup process as if you were turning your
phone on for the first time. After the process
completes, you will be ready to go with a completely
stock version of Android running on your M8, with the
added bonus of perks like Duo Camera and
BoomSound.

In this tutorial, I will show you how to downgrade Any HBOOT and Radio to "around" HBOOT 1.03.001 and Radio 7.48.36.1 or less with S-ON. How amazing is that!
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any damage that you bring to your android device! This will Downgrade you to Android 2.3.3!
1. Download these files:
-look for your RUU for your Carrier for example I downloaded "RUU_Marvel_TMOUS_1.62.531.3_Radio_47.10f.35.3032"
-Bootloader Controler, thank you theq86
*http://www.mediafire.com/?m546mkk0yp7cbdb
-Boot.img that we are gonna flash
*http://www.mediafire.com/?5lf77c7sposqkck
-System.img we are also gonna flash
*http://www.mediafire.com/?4o2dbgqbb2t30lh
-Extact it and place in your "C:/" drive
1a. Flash CWM Recovery or some other compatible recovery on your wildfire s
2.After theses files above have been downloaded, connect your wfs to computer via USB drive
3. open cmd and open up the folder you extracted in "C:/" drive Ex: cd c:/Android
4.Place boot.img and system.img in the root of the android folder
5. execute these commands
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
"its gonna take time so wait by looking at the bootlader screen at the top right"
IMPORTANT: After reboot it ill try to load Android Recovery but it cant since it has CWM Recovery, so it will load cwm recovery and say "E: Invalid command arguement" so all you have to do is reboot
after completed reboot, the rom is going to be buggy and gltchy so dont freak out YET
6. Place the bootloader Controller tool to the root of SD Card, DO NOT UNZIP!
7.Go into bootloader and enter your recovery, if your using cwm go to install zip from sd card>choose zip from sd card> look for the bl tool and flash it.
8.While attempting to flash it, there will be a Visual UI that popped up like a window, go to "Superversion" and press on that with your soft keys or Volume/Power Keys.
9. After Superversion update has completed reboot back into recovery and reattempt to install the bl tool, this time press on "LOCK" and wait for it to complete update and power down.
10.Open bootloader and you wil see "LOCKED OOW" at the top in hboot 1.08.0099 or "LOCKED" in hboot 1.09.0099, we are half way there
11. Now normal reboot to android and enable USB debugging if you havent done so.
12. Launch the RUU you downloaded and wait for it to complete the starting process. When completed starting up, accept all the notifications and continue to the update. Dont freak out when it keeps rebooting, its normal Wait for the update to complete then you quet done!
13. It will reboot and will show you the factory reset of android 2.3.3. After completing that you can now enter bootloader and see that you have downgrade like this for example:

Yes this works any hboot but to downgrade, the hboot must be an unlockable version 1.08.0099 or 1.09.0099 that is unlocked.
From the image in the tutorial, I downgraded from hboot 1.08.0099 to 1.03.0001.

I just want the damn thing to boot and work, I don't even care if it goes back to stock, I just need it to work. What are my options here? Any help would be great. An important factor I should mention is that I am on a Mac, and only have access to a Mac.
Thanks!

Are you wiping data/factory reset, cache and dalvik? You need to do this in cwm
Yes, I always wipe both system and cache, as well as dalvik.
I will try a RUU, see where that gets me. Thanks. And if anyone else has suggestions please let me know!
I think you can only run an ruu under windows.
I could be wrong though.
I can't just have the ZIP on my SD Card and install it from there?
You can but I think it will give you the same issue.
Try it though, its worth a shot
I just want the easiest way to get this back to functioning. I don't need any of the data on the phone or the SD card. I just wanted it to work. Period.
Easiest and safest is ruu
Do you not know anyone that will let you run it on their windows machine?
It would take 10 mins topps and is almost guaranteed to get you back up and running.
By the way are you a GSM or cdma user?
Edit: is that rom overclocked by default? The reason I ask is a lot of people have been having issues like you when installing Rom's that are pre overclocked.
Check if there's a default clock speed kernel on his op

Hello ,
this will return your phone to stock state (means that you will no longer have CWM recovery and you will have to install it again after this. If unlocked with XTC Clip YOU WILL STAY S-OFF ,I didn`t tried it with device unlocked via HTC Dev)
STEP BY STEP instructions what you should do :
1. go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432474
2. download http://www.mediafire.com/?ksa9k8dmxexdkdo
3. follow the instructions from 1
4. click thanks button
credits to Gig11gs & Ping192
P.S. I`m not responsible if you do any damage to your device.
if you have a backup or something then flash it through hboot
or if you have a extracted zip file from an ruu (rom.zip file in c:/temp when you run the installer) then extract it to desktop and flash it through hboot(if the file name of system is system.yaffs2.img then change it to system.img , you require only two files boot.img and system.img so no need to extract everything just extract these two)
the codes for both are
(locate the adb files first.)
in my case i have copied fastboot file from tools folder of sdk on desktop and also adb and adbbin.dll on desktop.. if you also copy these files on desktop then run the following exact commands when you are on bootloader the fastboot option will be highligted press power buton to select it .. when you in fastboot menu connect phone to pc and then write these command in dos prompt (go to start menu , run then write cmd and press enter you will have a dos prompt open)
Code:
cd desktop
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
when done go to recovery and now do all format data , clear chache and dalvik chace your phone will be un rooted total stock
It worked for me.. credits to EOgan
Or you can go to this tutorial that will downgrade everything even hboot and radio at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1540952 and remember o thank me
Just a thought but have you wiped everything before flashing the ROM? I've had a weird experience once with pretty much the same issue (stuck on splash screen). Wiping everything (system, data, cache, boot AND SD Card) seemed to have resolved the issue. If you're using an already partitioned card, I'd recommend powering off after CWM flashing, unmounting the SD and then turning it on.
This should work actually (don't see a reason not to). Also, if you've modified the ROM.zip file in any way after downloading it, I'd advise flashing one which is freshly downloaded rather (would eliminate any user tweaks causing the issue).
PS. I've attached a flashable superwipe script which you can run before flashing the ROM. Let me know how it worked out for you.

System write protection.
There is a mod to disable that here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/des...e-disable-write-protection-v1-0-tool-t2966850
Or use a custom ROM, those have it disabled already.

If you flash stock rom and you are updated to OS>6.2.8.0 then you will loose TWRP, you no longer will be able to unlock your 4k stick ever again because updating your stick with rom with efuse burner will block the BROM exploit and you will not be able to unlock again.Again, going stock will lock your device and you'll no longer be able to unlock it again. If you still want to go stock then follow the steps mentioned below.
Download locked/stock rom for mantis, you will find the rom in XDA posts named like update-mantis-6271-blabla.zip or .bin, if it is in .bin just rename it to zip.
Push it to your internal storage of mantis, wipe everything except internal
Flash it via twrp,
Edit: (This edit was just of older version of OS like 7.1 or 7.3)
You don't have to factory reset, you can always switch back and forth these updates, you can flash 7.1 on top of 7.3 or vice-versa, because there is no actual major OS update, and the files are compatible, and the update replaces the whole system you should know.
If you choose to switch b/w them make sure not to wipe anything, because your remote will be unpaired, so keep that in mind. But if you are rooted and use peacockTV then a factory reset is kinda mandatory after doing this.
[EDIT END]
Reboot, setup your account and when you are fully setup, enable adb and authorize your computer.
At this point your system is fully stock, but your bootloader isn't.
Open the update-mantis-something.zip you will find boot.img, extract it to the folder where you have fastboot installed (download and install if you haven't, you can also use the live image which contains fastboot drivers and application ).
While the stick is connected to your pc
Enter
Code:
adb reboot recovery
when the stick opens TWRP
Enter
Code:
adb shell reboot-amonet
When you see the stick showing black screen with firetv logo, enter
Code:
fastboot devices
to confirm if your device is connected (install drivers if you cannot connect)
If you see your device in fastboot
Enter
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Code:
fastboot reboot
Your stick will reboot itself.
You will have to factory reset your stick one more time, or some apps like peacock tv will not work.
Good luck.

This works perfectly if anyone else is wondering.
Hello, can anyone link me to where I will find the windows drivers for the Firestick in fastboot mode?
I have followed the above and entered fastboot which can be seen here:

However powershell doesn't display and connected devices and I am guess it is because Windows doesn't recognise the device in device manager? Image shown below of what my PC is doing:
I had a look through the platform-tools folder but I couldn't find any "drivers" as such that I could point device manager at. Thanks in advance

Hello, dear owners of this beautiful device.
After an unsuccessful attempt to get root, such a warning appeared, plus the ability to lock the screen disappeared. As a result, I didn't get root either and problems arose)
Could you show the instructions how to fix everything step by step and get root? Thanks)
Hey, so I have the same problem as you. I was installing the patched boot.img file when I rebooted, but there was no magsik app. After I tried to flash the same file again, except I put in some vbmeta file because some website said so, now my phone's files are corrupted. I got into fastboot mode and put through recovery mode, and did a data wipe and one final reboot, but even that did work because it said my phone is corrupt. The last thing I will try is to install TWRP, remove the old data, and install the update to restore the previous ROM files. I'll let you know if anything works. Just try ur methods and let me know if they worked. Sure is an expensive paperweight if it doesn't work...

Your boot loader must be unlock
Reboot to recovery, choose English when you see "Wipe data" type
adb reboot sideload
Once your phone boots into sideload mode (When you see the two error line at the bottom of the screen) type
adb sideload NX729J-update.zip
When the transfer is successful ( with a transfer of 2.0 display) you can wipe the data twice with the first and second options and reboot the phone. If you are lucky, the phone will boot

Download global V3.19 rom from: https://rom.download.nubia.com/Europe&Asia/NX729J/V319/NX729J.zip
Download QPST and QFIL flash tool from: https://www.mediafire.com/file/220h5xaxi1gd55m/QPST_2.7.496.zip/file. Install the driver (provided in the download) and these two programs.
You could then flash this rom V3.19 using QFIL flash tool. If you can flash this rom successfully your phone will work.

For QFIL, use Flat Build and in the configuration use ufs. Good luck!

Your version V4.18 will be replaced by V3.19. This V3.19 version can be flashed through edl mode. I could not find V4.18 in this format. The two roms are very similar. They are both global roms.

If QFIL does not work, you need to do side load the rom multiple times again then it might work!
turn off the red rm8 notification (Your device is broken. It is unreliable and may not work)
- enter command on PC: adb reboot "dm-verity enforcing"
- on phone for rooted device with termux: reboot "dm-verity enforcing"

The command on PC shows "Too many arguments." The Termux one works. Thanks!
