It will be. You can mount the phone in mass storage mode with "Mount USB storage" to copy the zip over after, however. Most people here use an external SD (sdcard1).

Can't mount USB storage in recovery

Hi there!
I'm willing to perform an absolutely clean install of a ROM and want to format all partitions in recovery, even the internal sdcard, system etc... Doing so will remove my current ROM I suppose, so I won't be able to boot up the phone only to recovery or download mode. But in recovery I can't access the phone's memory so I won't be able to put the zip file back after formatting.
I used to install ROMs on my old Desire HD this way:
1. Wipe data/Factory reset
2. Clear cache + Dalvik
3. Format all partitions (boot system etc.)
4. Format SD card
5. Toggle USB storage
*PC detects phone*
6. Copy file
7. Install zip
Is it a proper way of insaltalling ROMs on Note 2 also? If yes how do I put the .zip file on the phone?
Thank you for the help!

Is it safe to delete the extra 0 folder after installing cyanogen mod?

I just rooted my phone and flash cyanogen mod. I went to storage and it says 4gb is used, I found a extra 0 folder. I think it contains the touchwiz things before I installed cyanogen mod. Is it safe to delete the extra 0 folder?

The 0 folder is part of JellyBean's file structure, and it seems that you have the emulated storage bug
Redo everything:
Update the Recovery if needed
Wipe Data \ Factory Reset
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Format /system
Format /data
Format /internal
Flash ROM and gapps

It's only in CWM based recoveries, in Mounts and Storage. If you are on TWRP, there isn't a format /internal anymore, so just skip that step.

The format internal would have solved that. Which recovery are you using? And what is in that folder? What you have is the emulated storage bug, where the internal duplicates itself. It's probably an exact replica of you Internal SD in that folder. Go ahead and delete it, or switch to a CWM-based recovery that has a format /internal option.

The bug can happen from having an older recovery that isn't patched for JellyBean's file structure. Make sure your recovery is up-to-date.

sorry bro was not able to get you earlier
u mean you have a rom zip on your internal in that case just enter recovery and hope u have rooted and stuff
Switch of your device press Vol up+home+power all at the same time and leave the power button once you see the samsung logo
now in recovery wipe data factory/cache/dalvik cahe and you are good to proceed flashing if you have an external sd then keep your zip in ext sd and do full wipe which will wipe your internal sd as well but not the external so if u have an external sd you can do a full wipe else just do the steps mentioned it will be fine
and if you have stock rom it is flashable via mobile odin please read this thread to understand everything http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896696
what does your new rom state stock or custom

Really appriciate it. I am already runing on custom rom. I also have a new custom rom .zip file on internal sd (don't have ext. sd card) I change many roms, so I have a lot of unnecessary stuff in data. I would like to delete everything and then install new custom rom .zip file.
I am afraid of loosing new custom rom .zip file, twrp,... Is it possible to do it or I have to flash stock rom and then do the simple factory reset in settings?
Thanks

hi again. I guess I am not for this tech stuff
I have done this (or i think) I still have a lot of unnecessary folders. I installed new custom rom now. I am going to stick with it, but I still want to delete everything except rom that I am running on and other important stuff that makes this phone run.
Another help would be much apriciated. (step by step if possible)

It seems u want to get rid of all uneccesary junk so thats possible to be removed only if you do full wipe thats is u even have to wipe system that will delete everything of the last rom and even in internal but after that u need to mount ur storage from recovery and then transfer the zip of your rom and flash it .so u need to be sure that your recovery is able to mount internal sd , I blv I hv posted a super wipe link so u can even flash that that will erase evrything u wish to but mounting of card shd work to let u transfer the file of rom zip or the safest get a ext sd transfer the rom zip and after clean wipe install zip from external sd.
If your mount sd is working first try and check that connect ur phn to pc via usb and in recovery select mount sd if it shows then you are good to go and get what u need.
So the prob lies u want steps but I need surity if ur mount storage works if it does then just flash this file attached as I hope it has uploaded fine as I used my phn to do so .just flash the zip attached and it will wipe all on its own .mount sd transfer ur custom rom zip and selec t it to flash . U get what u want

I realy appriciate your work but still to fresh to understand. This mounting thing is driving me crazy. I will just go and buy the sd card, it's easy.
So what i could understand is that I put your posted zip file on my internal sd card and i put my custom rom zip file to external sd card. Is that 100% ok?
and when I do that, whats next? (sorry mate)

why are you so worried its a simple step
1. boot into recovery - u know how to do it
2. connect your phone to pc and now click mount and see if you find the option to mount sd as soon as u click it it will recognise the internal sd
3. thats said if it works you can move ahead - just select the flash zip u have kept in ur internal sd it will wipe everything and now u mount again and transfer the rom zip
4.you can proceed flashing the rom zip from internal sd. done!
5. if you have an ext sd card then place both wipe zip and rom zip in external and choose install zip from external sd and select wipe zip .it will run some codes on screen and everything is wiped out now the recovery will restart and now select the rom zip thats it.
note: its a simple stuff what i am trying to make u understand is that if u clean wipe then you loose all ,everything from internal storage so u need some rom zip to flash which u need in external or internal so u need to transfer that zip, if its in external it wont get wiped off so you dont need any mounting to be done.
before all do backup your efs for your safety . I hope you know that or must have gone through it.
or rather do some reading it will take an hour for you to go through everything in detail

[Q] Did I just brick?

Recently rooted i747 with CWM and flashed Android 4.3 with no issues (shoulda just stopped there). I wanted to flash CM 10.2... data/factory reset, cache wipe, Davlik wipe... but flash failed. Rebooted into recovery to reflash 4.3, but nothing is found under sdcard/0. What am I missing? Thanks for any help!
Use the file explorer in recovery and navigate to /data/media/0. Your stuff should be there.
CWM v6.0.3.1
- reboot system now
- install zip from sdcard
- install zip from sideload
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- backup and restore
- mounts and storage
- advanced
I apologize for the ignorance, but I cannot for the life of me find any file explorer. When I try to install zip from sdcard, my only options are: 0/, clockworkmod/, and obb/. All of which state that no files are found.
Dl Rom onto sdcard with a computer. Maybe a factory reset will help first. I'm used to using twrp, which has a file explorer in it
I'll definately try that. Will my internal storage still be there? Thanks again.

Yes, your internal storage will still be there, unless u specifically wipe it. The file stucture is just a little different on these roms...

Using custom recoveries will not wipe your internal sd unless you specifically do so. Stock recovery (3e) however WILL wipe your internal on the latter releases.
Got it! Data/factory reset before flashing a stock 4.1.2 ROM through Odin and everythng is golden. Thanks!

Do a full wife before you install new ROM.
For installation, first, make sure you got your ROM and the correct Gapps on your External SD Card.
After that, enter CWM and:
select "wipe data / factory reset"
go to "mounts & storage" and format /system. This is extremely important!
under the same menu, format /sdcard (be careful NOT to format /external_sd by mistake)
install ROM (from the external sd)
install Gapps (from the external sd)
reboot your phone
Please, note that every step of this tutorial is mandatory! Credit to Arsradu

Sorry but I do not know where to find this:

I suppose mnt/sdcard but I do not see any /system and what do you mean with format ?
What am I doing wrong ?
