Fire Phone And Tasker? - Amazon Fire Phone

Do any of you all know if Tasker will be available for this phone? I just got one today and really want Tasker back.

I think Tasker requires Google Maps so i'm guessing it won't.

Yeah, unfortunately Googlewares won't work on Fire phone.

[Request] Use PS3 controller with Kindle Fire?

I was just curious if anyone had any ideas about if this would be possible. I know Sony recently released an update so one of their tablets could use it. Given the Fire's mini-USB port and the fact that Bluetooth is physically there, any chance we'll get to use a PS3 controller with Kindle Fire? I have never been into the touch screen controls for games like Zenonia. And I think being able to play it with a PS3 controller on Kindle Fire would be pretty sweet. I already did a few Google searches but couldn't find any information about this working.
Another great thing about this, would be that we could theoretically use the gyroscope in the PS3 controller for other stuff.
I'm still new to this scene so I'm not sure what all would be needed, but wanted to bring it up while I had it on my mind.

It's a slim possibility only if someone finds a way of getting Bluetooth to work, but even then it's down to someone to write the the code to make the PS3 controller function, and then the game either has to support it, or there needs to be a driver layer that can emulate the screen touches/gyroscope.
However, as currently the KF only supports 2 finger touch, and nobody knows if that is a hardware or firmware limitation, that might also be a show stopper.
An external joystick would be nice, but I'm thinking there are quite a number of hurdles to overcome first!
IF u had cm7 installed on ur kindle and they got the bluetooth to work then u could use ur ps3 controller on ur kindle as cm7 lets u use a app called sixxaxis which lets u sync ur ps3 controller with bluetooth to ur phone and u can play games on ur phone with ur ps3 controller. It works perfectly on my sgs2 running cm7

That is an interesting app for sure, never seen that before. It could be worth a shot if they overcome the Bluetooth limitation.
I might see if this works on my Droid, as I'm still skeptical about the button/touch emulation. However, it does have good reviews so it might be a good working solution.

I forgot about that app, but I have heard good things about it. If they can get Bluetooth then as you said, could be our solution. In fact, I'd think it'd make the process fairly easy after that.

Llama and Kodi?

Has anyone been able to use Kodi with Llama to get Kodi to launch from the AFTV Home Screen? I've tried every tutorial available, and followed them to a T. I can't get Kodi to launch from the Classic TV app. I uninstalled Kodi, and installed TVMC, and it works fine. Does it not work on Kodi anymore? I tried the manual way, and I also tried using ADB Fire to make it launch, and neither worked. I just picked up the AFTV today, so it's not a rootable one.

I'm sorry you had problems, but adbFire's Llama options work fine. You have the choice of using either Classic TV or Ikono TV and the ability of replacing the icon as well. If you'd like help in figuring out what went wrong, let me know. Root's not required.

I have another AFTV up in my living room, and everything worked fine on it. That's why I'm so confused. I ended up installing Kodi from the Amazon App Store, so now it loads from the main page.
It works for me. But is it still needed? You can install Kodi from Amazon AppStore - and the icon will show up even if you already have Kodi which will cause the installation to fail. The only caveat is that you have to use original Kodi (not SBMC or something like that).

That's a valid question. I'm keeping the Llama process in adbFire as a backup, if nothing else, since Amazon could stop the new method in a heartbeat.

I still can't figure out why it wasn't working. I did the EXACT steps on my other AFTV, and it worked perfectly. The AFTV that it's not working on, is brand new, purchased last week. Is there any way Amazon did something to the new ones to prevent the Llama method from working?

I just set up a new AFTV with Kodi/51.1.5.0_user_515030720 and the Llama process worked w/o problems. Nothing's impossible, but I really doubt Amazon has broken Llama. I don't know what happened in your case.

I literally spent about 8 hours trying EVERY single method I found on the net. I mean, the ADBFire method, is pretty much dummy proof, and not even that would work. When I tried it manually, I picked a bunch of other apps to launch instead of Kodi, and they all launched perfectly, so I know I was doing it right. As soon as I would switch the app to launch to Kodi, it wouldn't work. What's weird about it, is I tried an older version of TVMC, and that launched fine. I tried older versions of Kodi, but they wouldn't launch.
I have exact same issue. I tried for hours to get it to work and it wont. I totally wiped my other one and it works fine. I am not sure what is going on. I am using user 51.1.5.0_user_515030720 on both with same account.

Well, with multiple reports, obviously something is going on, but I can't replicate it on a new FTV with the new firmware, fresh delivered from Amazon last Saturday. Llama works fine here.
So, is anyone willing to step up and help find a fix? I need anyone with this issue to work with me trying to solve the problem, otherwise I can't resolve it.

Looks like @SaleeN is running the newest fw. If you have the same then it seems like amazon broke the llama function....I can't see why? Allow the app in their store, allow side loading of kodi, kill the llama shortcut but not the other workaround...could just be a fluke or a bug in the software
Edit--sorry I missed @jocala's last comment. Mine seems sort of redundant.

Yes I tried that also. I tried setting llama to open both ikono and classictv and it won't. I had just finished another firetv right before this one with no problems
This is a known working Llama dataset for ikono copied from a new Fire TV running 51.1.5.0_user_515030720 firmware. Give it a try (files need to be in the /sdcard/Llama directory). Once it's loaded from USB, see if it works from within Llama by editing the event and doing test action.
I was just about to post as I was having the same problem and it seems to be an issue with one of the versions before their most recent updates. I just updated to 51.1.5.0....515030720 and now it is launching as normal. before that It would launch ikono and appear to close spmc when lama tried to execute it. Try updating your versions to the latest and see if it fixes it.
I tried for hours last night and couldnt get kodi to open with llama. Lo and behold I tried it again this morning and it worked. I'll keep in mind to do it through sd card next time to see if that way works.

Fire Tv Stick in car working

So I plugged this puppy into a 2014 Honda Civic HDMI and got it working to Xbmc, Fire tv apps, emulators ..you guys know the score already but my question is does this fire tv stick have google maps capabilities if rooted? It would be pretty nice to get some maps working maybe even offline apps but I suppose I would have to figure out the best way to use it because there is no touch control with it. They have some kind of apple app you use with honda link to control the touch. I wonder what I could use for android that wouldn't be dangerous while driving.... I know the screen share works with the stick and my phone but don;t they both have to be on the same wifi or can I run the fire tv stick off my phones hotspot and still screen share?

No. The Fire TV does not use location settings and it also does not have a GPS. One thing that may work is inputting your location and destination, but the app will not be able to find you on its own.

It's powered through the cigarette lighter. HDMI doesn't provide power. You probably knew that but I wanted to make that clear.
Fire Stick - GPS
It's a long shot, but it might be possible to use Google Maps with the fire stick by pairing it with a bluetooth GPS. I have an old Pharos Bluetooth GPS I've paired with older tablets without an internal GPS. There are apps in the Play Store which will allow you to set this up. If you can find one of these bluetooth GPS units somewhere cheap, it might be worth a shot. You'll need to sideload a "settings" app to the stick to allow you to pair the GPS. This is the kind of thing I love trying, just to see if it works. If you find a bluetooth GPS and get it working, report back to let us know, please. Also, you might consider purchasing one of the Android sticks out on the market. Just an idea.
Does the touch work on it?
Nevermind seen the vid
I'm going to tether in car for mine. Had to buy hdmi to rca box to use in car.
Tether your stick to your phone and then either screen share or download an airplay app so that you can mirror. Then simply pull up the maps on your phone and mirror to the LCD. That's what I did and it works flawlessly.
cool stuff I used a raspberry pi, and a touchscreen along with a gps . tethered to the cell. works decent, once mounted gps antenna to the trunk lid. let us know how you make out with adding gps to the fire stick.

Plugged a fire TV stick in the hdmi port, cannot get it to display. Tries selecting the hdmi input and nothing happens, click the two right hand and it can't connect.
Any ideas?

FireTV Stick and Plex

Stupidly bought a FireTV Stick with the intention of putting it in the offpsrings room so they can watch stuff from my Plex server in their own rooms.
Installed Plex, it wants to activate, £3.99, fair enough, bought it, it then says I can't watch stuff until I activate it, so I try again and it just errors..
Plex forums are about as much use as a fart in a cullender, so ended up here..
Any root or custom ROM options for the stick so it actually becomes useful?
Same LAN network correct?
I've noticed that if Plex uses a WAN address it behaves differently and nags for money. If your on a local network and you've attached to the correct server than you should be good to go.
Maybe you've already done this but make sure you are connected to the correct server and on your local network. And also if the content is HD make sure you are using h.264 encoding. I've noticed the firetv stick struggles with MPEG2 HD.
I've got my Plex server locally with a static as well as the FireTV stick having a static IP, the problem lies in the fact that you cant get Plex to work for more than a minute, says it needs activating, charges you the £3.99 then when you try to play something it again says it needs activating, try to activate it a second time and it errors...
Might have to go down the sideloading Kodi or similar although I would prefer something that just launched straight in rather than having to go into Settings, Apps, Manage Apps then fire kodu up from there, hence the request for some sort of custom ROM...

I can't say much about plex. I tried it. It was good to very good, depending on my device, but kodi is better in my opinion. However, if that tedious navigation in getting to the app is really your only issue, you can use llama to put it right on the recent section, or boot right to it. Adbfire makes the setup simple. There's also firestarter that allows side loaded apps on the home screen.
I've been using Plex for years and I'm pretty regular on the forums, and I agree, the issue with the repeated activation requirement doesn't seem to fix itself. Here is the most complete thread on the subject (http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/151349/app-already-purchased-but-still-prompting-for-activation/p1), I seem to remember that the main suggestions are (1) do a factory reset on the stick, (2) contact Amazon, and (3) PM one of the Plex devs with your amazon account name and maybe the receipt info from the app purchase (I don't remember the details of that). Like ldeveraux I have a Plexpass membership, that seems to provide the magic to avoid the issue (but I'm not promoting the purchase, the price now is kind of high).
Kodi+PlexBMC+Amber Skin works very well and looks similar to Plex Home Theater, sideloading is pretty easy (http://sideloadfiretv.com/sideload-apps-amazon-fire-tv-windows), and I think it's just a better solution to avoid any issues with surround sound.
Firestarter (http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/themes-apps/app-root-home-launcher-replacement-app-t3118135) is an awesome app to easily access your sideloaded apps.
Ahh, llama might sort me out then if I can boot the stick straight to Kodi/XBMC, dont have a Plexpass here which might be why its working for you guys and not me..

The openvpn app works fine on a my Fire-TV Gen 2 which I rooted yesterday. It shouldn't be a problem on a fire stick. The airport router lacks the ability to use openvpn.
That seems to be the quickest to to accomplish your goal & you could use vpn anywhere like when traveling in a hotel or whatever.

Google search for openvpn APK (Site wouldn't let me post a link until I post more) this is what i found with a google search. I downloaded it from the play store on my Nexus 7 and used an apk extractor app.
2 notes.
1. It will require an openvpn config there are links within to private tunnel. I good choice for some because you pay by the data you use. not a good choice for me because I work on an offshore faucily where I live for a week at a time. The web is heavily monitored and blocks sites such as this one for some unknown reason. So I use VPN on all devices 24/7 while at work, it is more cost effective for me to pay for a service. There are also free vpn options seperate apps, not sure how they work on fire tv, you may have to experiment. popular choices are tunnel bear, vyprvpn & cyberghost.
2. The Netflix problem. Netflix put out an update a while back that causes Netflix not to work with some VPN. It has something to do with the DNS I'm still trying to find a solution for this myself. Maybe a pro can step in & fill us both in on that part of the equation. This is my 2nd time posting on this forum.

A single router VPN or double router (vpn/non-vpn) setup was the best option under Fire OS 3 (For all 1st Gen FireTV's & FireTV Sticks).

There won't be any FireTV listed app for OpenVPN. It's more of a universal device android app.
Found this link for the PlayStore version of one of the OpenVPN apk: http://plai.de/android/
(I would choose the latest non Pre version. Not sure why they charge for the exact same app on the Amazon Store when it's free on the PlayStore)
Here is a Amazon review with how to use a PIA setup on a Fire device with Fire OS 5 using the OpenVPN app above. Since PIA hasn't updated their PIA app in a long while. ( http://www.amazon.com/review/R29NVV...D=2350149011&store=mobile-apps#wasThisHelpful )

Can someone please confirm that a PIA OpenVPN setup works on FireTV or FireTV Sticks on Fire OS 5 ???
Running OpenVPN on the stick might not work, at least the way you hope. OpenVPN encryption is handled by the cpu which is really weak on the fire stick. Even if it does work you might not be able to get enough throughput to maintain a video stream.
Running OpenVPN on a router is a far better idea.
Thanks for the reply. The issue is that I have an Apple Airport Extreme which it seems like it 's going to be difficult to do. Thanks!
If its just a VPN for kodi then you can download a VPN addon through kodi. Ive not persoanlly used it but seen it mentioned a couple of times.

Works. (Tested with Kodi and other apps on 5.0.5.)
Also - this is an Open VPN client - so you have to get a VPN subscription elsewhere.
Also a thread full of people that have "heard things" but far and few between, that have actually tried out an app for themselves... Oh I'm sure the CPU is the issue here - not. *sigh*
What kind of errors are you getting here?
You can always do a double router setup. Running an APN through your router will slow your speeds but it will keep you safe. It will also give you the option on what devices to connect to what router.
If you're running a VPN for privacy reasons, running it on the fire is a bad idea. There's simply too many ways for something to go wrong. If the app crashes or the VPN disconnects, your connection will leak - and you might not notice in time. Or if the power blipped in the middle of the night, the fire would just reboot and you'd never realize the vpn app had gone down unless you make it a habit of checking it every single time. Which is a PITA.
This isn't an issue if you're running it for geo-unblocking, since a connection leak just means your video pauses. Not the end of the world.
It's much better to do this upstream in the network on a device that can implement firewall rules and keep your connection 100% secure and give yourself peace of mind. If your router supports OpenVPN natively (few do), you can probably do this with no problem at all. If it doesn't, you might be able to install OpenWrt, which can 100% do exactly this. I know that for a fact because it's what I have set up right now. My old ISP throttled youtube traffic. (Yeah. Youtube. I could watch 1080p through the VPN, but without it I could only occasionally watch 720p without buffering. I was mostly stuck on 480p. That sucked.)
Placing the tunnel upstream also makes it a snap to add additional devices to the "VPN only" group.
If your main router doesn't support either option you can use a networking device as a man in the middle between your fire and your router. To do this you can use an old router in your closest or a $15 one from craigslist that supports OpenWrt. Another good option is to use a raspberry pi. Worst case, a regular old computer can do the job, although it's not power-efficient and isn't elegant or pretty.
I have the firetv box as far as a VPN I adb linked ipvanish. Apk to the fireTv. Runs great.

Running OpenVPN on the stick might not work, at least the way you hope. OpenVPN encryption is handled by the cpu which is really weak on the fire stick. Even if it does work you might not be able to get enough throughput to maintain a video stream.
Running OpenVPN on a router is a far better idea.
