Fix app2SD petition created - Sony Xperia M

hi all,
As a Xperia M user i feel very dissapointd by Sony. Reason is not including app2SD support to our and many other devices. Therefore i created a petition to try to pursuade some change. I do not expect KitKat update, but a small and simple fix from Sony as a sign to ease our lives a bit. And i know many of you did various solutions, with gl2sd, swapping internal to external, etc. but if other manufacturers can have that feature i think we can have it to. Other than that, this is a great device.
Link: https://www.change.org/p/sony-mobile-fix-app2sd-support-on-newer-xperia-devices#share

You can use foldermount, link2sd, gl2sd, framework mod etc.

I don't think petitions are going to work.

I dont know what are you talking about, I use foldermount and never had any issues with it, its simple to use.

First of all, our device well receive more official updates. Second, why don't you complain to Google who removed the functionality in the first place?

Low on space - Phone Storage space is getting low

Somehow my space on my phone is very low. I started getting the messages this morning. I wouldn't say that I have a load of applications. No more than I had on my HTC Magic...Is this too much for it to handle?

What are my options?
1. Clear cache;
2. Remove some apps;
3. Wait for root + custom ROMs with APPS2SD
I am now wondering ... What is this "cache" ?
Do we really need to clean it periodically?
It would be nice if there is a widget to clean this.
And honestly, I am not impressed with the storage ... 512 RAM seems a lot, but actually it is NOT
I have removed Google earth as it was taking up nearly 22MB which in the grand scheme of things seems to be load of space....
I never understand why they don't a minimum of 1gb internal storage on these devices for apps.

...or just allow for apps to be installed on a memory card from the first place
Seems like that they [Android OS] have realised that without doing so, they will not be able to have storage hungry things such as games to be installed.
36 as I counted, is normal IMO. But yeah, I really hope that you will be able to install applications on your SD card in the future. Not that I want more apps, but I want BETTER apps (which means they will be more MB's). I remember downloading games for the iPod touch that were over 100 MB. They were also off very high quality.
About not allowing installing apps to SD card: I think the reason why it is not allowed is the following.. if you can install something to your SD card, you can easily share it with other over the internet, right? That will mean people will start downloading apps the 'dirty' way! That's the only reason I see.
But Google is very smart and so far keeps giving everybody what they want. I am sure they will find a solution!

When you use apps, it stores some files in memory for quicker access later. Downside of it is that it takes-up space. Normally you would not want to clear cache that often, but if you're running out of space it helps.
Unfortunately you can only clear cache for each app one-by-one, but here's an app that might make the process easier http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.cerisierbleu.qac
You can not store any apps on your memory card!
I did not know this
I have low space as well!
I have a game which is 20MB, i do not want to delete it beacuse it is the best game I have.
Is there no way to put it on your memory card?

No, you can't put apps on memory card until we have root and get to use cool ROMs like CyanogenMod.
Or until Google adds official support for apps2sd, but I can bet you that root will come first.
the reason why google doesnt allow apps etc to be installed on SD cards is because of security of the system, meaning that through this it would be probably easier to root or hack the device and they re working on some kind of encryption for this, and it will be included in the future update,
someone from this forum posted it somewhere here in this section
I also got low memory on my G1 with Apps2sd. That's because every app stores stuff on the internal memory, the browser cache, google maps cache and so on. My experience showed me that these things are the real memory killer.

Google will encrypt that partition of the sdcard so it is secure. IIRC, support for something with the sd card was checked in recently, along with the support for the LED (for the nexus one). I imagine apps2sd is something all android devices will be seeing soon.
Personally, I would be screwed if I couldn't install apps to my sd card on my phone...as stated above, google earth takes up way too much space. Tack on a couple games and a dozen apps? Forget it.

right. does that mean we wont be able to replace the sd cards unless we 'install' some additional files onto it?
and I think if google wont do this pretty quickly, droid might loose a vast amount of clients, because this is one of the reasons why iphone is so popular.

I thought it was due to the fact that the paid apps wouldn't be secure on the sd card, opening the gate further for app piracy and thus they were working on a solution to allow copy protection on the sd card.
I think this issue just turned me off the Desire and now I'm leaning towards the Nexus 1. I like to install plenty of apps so this could be a real issue for me
All android phones are the same, its just a matter of time before its sorted you can still get plenty of apps on, personally i can't see how anyone would need more than 10.

not sure to be honest. I would assume that you will be able to mount your sd card and copy all of the contents off the secured/encrypted partition if your machine recognizes that partition type...then again, maybe you won't be able to.
If you upgrade sd cards, you may have to start all over with installing to the sd card. Good question.

the iphone is popular for lots of reasons; app support being at the top...but I would imagine the viral advertising and the "everyone has it" thing doesn't hurt.
Funnily enough, Android is almost on as many mobile devices as iphoneOS (according to an admob metric report). So the "everyone has it" argument is about to become a moot point.

[Q] A Little LATE , HELP !!!

Hello!
See the thing is that I used to be a worshiper of Nokia, until the doctors announced the inescapable soon to be natural death of Symbian. And now having seen the Android Beauty I feel like I have landed on Mars.
I know nothing about the Android devices but am planing to own an xperia Play in the coming days.
I am mostly interested in organizing life through the use of phone (like Reminders, Memos, Tasks, Calenders etc.), browsing Internet, and using applications (like FaceBook, Twitter, and several others) and user interface experience (I will mention what I mean by that).
1. Now as far as the organization stuff is concerned I have been told that Play hasn't got either one of them, but all can be download easily and in good quality. And I am okay with this issue. BUT CONFIRM IF THIS IS AS SIMPLE AS IT SEEMS?
2. Now about the Internet, well this is the main reason of opting for Play, instead of other Sony Ericsson or HTC or Samsung phones. I have read that the phone has got quality web browsing with 4-inch screen. Websites load quite fast comparred to even other SE phones. KINDLY CONFIRM IF THIS IS TRUE AT YOUR END?
3. I have no idea how good this third requirement is served up by SE Play. And that is the reason for this thread. PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS WITH EXTENSIVE DETAIL AS IF YOU WERE EXPLAINING TO A NEWBORN BABY. BECAUSE I HAVE SEARCHED SEVERAL FORUMS REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND ALL I HAVE GOTTEN SO FAR IS CONFUSION.
So here is the issue, CAN PLAY OR ANDROID (I DON'T KNOW WHICH TO MENTION) DOWNLOAD APPLICATIONS STRAIGHT TO SD, WITHOUT ANY HACK OR METHOD THAT GOES AGAINST THE WARRANTY CONDITIONS? SOME SAY IT CAN SOME SAY IT CAN'T BUT OTHER ANDROIDS CAN SOME SAY IT CAN'T BUT ONCE IT HAS BEEN INSTALLED THEN YOU CAN MOVE IT SOME SAY YOU CAN USING ROM (WHAT THE .... IS ROM, IS IT THE SAME READ-ONLY-MEMORY); WHICH IS IT?
AGAIN PLEASE AN XPERIA PLAY USER EXPLAIN BECAUSE THAT IS THE PHONE I AM GOING TO OWN.
ASSUMING THAT NO MATTER WHAT APPLICATIONS CAN'T BE MOVED TO SD, THEN DO YOU COMMON USERS FEEL THAT 400 MB IS GOOD ENOUGH?
4. Now the user interface, by this I mean the simplicity like we used to have in Nokia or we have in iOS. Like no techie stuff no booting, rooting, rebooting, rerooting etc. No need to dig into the files instead the phone. Also, no crashes, no bugs etc. Becasue I have also been told that Android is still in its developing stages and has problems of its own?
5. And now your opinion, DO YOU THINK PLAY IS WORTH BUYING? I mean I am not much into gaming as much I am into the things mentioned above. Although gaming seems an extra appeal to me. But from the user experience point of view would you recommend this phone.
Thanks for at least reading even if you have no solution.
Enough with the caps. No one's going to want to respond to you when you do that.
1) Yes, built-in calendar, rest can be downloaded.
2) Web browsing's only as good as your connection. Not a problem here.
3) There's a small hack but it doesn't void your warrantee or anything like that. Unless you install a ton of apps and games, 400MB internal should be enough for the average user.
4) Good luck finding any operating system out there that doesn't boot, has no bugs and has no crashes.
5) If you aren't a hardcore gamer or really enjoy emulating the classics, you could probably find a phone better suited towards your uses.

Hello!
Okay thanks for the reply and sorry about the CAPS.
Just 1 more things.
About the sd issue, after that hack does the phone run fine or have there been any issues. Also are there any hopes of this service to be included in the coming updates, I mean if you have heard so somewhere.
Thanks.
I'll confirm that Xperia play is a Sony ericsson phone.

It's not a hack, google had been evolving the move to SD function over the last few versions of the OS. In froyo only the actuall apps .apk could be moved to the SD card. But with the launch of gingerbread, google announed you could also move the apps .libs too. This will not slow your phone down or void your warrenty as its a native feature in the OS
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk
Only thing to think about is if a package has widgets or has a service as part of it, putting the app on the SD card will break them.
@Jack Shepard: the wonderful thing about android is you can change and tailor any of the features you are concerned with to your liking. Claenders, memos, web browsing; even the ui, all without breaking any warrenties or using any hacks. Android comes with everything that you asked for already built in and if you don't like the layout or how it behaves, you simply download a different one to replace it. I can't even begin to count how many different Calender/memo apps there are in the market along with different keyboards, Widgets, etc... even if you don't like the stock web browser there are four others I could list just straight off the top of my head.
As far as web browsing in general, the chipset in the xperia play has hardware flash support so websites with a lot of flash will render a lot quicker then older phones.
As far as downloading apps to your sd card, it really is as simple as downloading it from the market. However keep in mind that the developer the makes the app has to include sd card support. Its much more comman place then it was a year ago but you still may run into an app or two that don't.
And finally yes, if you enjoy gaming on your phone and want to be able to enjoy something other then angry birds, you definately want to check out the play
Fix your grammer bro and use the search.
P.s. Why are you so angry?
Why would you consider the play if your not much of a gamer...that's the crowd this phone is tailored to. Android is highly customizable, you can change almost anything to match your needs. If you are unwillingly to spend extra time setting up your phone, reading and playing around with stuff... Then don't get android. Stick with the ios.

Dangerous Exynos 4 Security Hole Demoed and Plugged by Chainfire

So... what CAN happen to a rooted device affected by this, such as a Note 2? If no third-party software (non-market stuff) is installed, the risks are minimal, yes?

I am not 100% sure but it looks like chainfire was able to use that security hole to root the phone so I am guessing anyone else with his smarts can do the same and gain acess to your device and thus your info. I dont know if third party apps have anything to do with it or not I would think that they would be one part of the problem but I dont think that if you have no third party apps there is no danger. Again I am not an expert but that is what it sounds like to me. Anyone else care to explain further? For us dummies

With this vulnerability our phones can be rooted through application installs. Which means Attackers/Hackers can root and take full control over our phones if we install applications uploaded by them.
Preventive measure is to not install untrusted and new applications from unknown sources.
I am sure google will verify all applications at play store but it's better to wait for a day or two and see how things from here.
As this is critical vulnerability a patch from Samsung is expected soon.

[Q] We have root? Great! What can it do?

Guys, please. The point of my thread is NOT whether the root claim is a lie or not. I am asking some questions about what can be done with it regardless, so please, if anyone knows inform me, but don't post guessing games of whether it is real or not.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So the Note 4 is actually my first device I've owned where I didn't have an unlocked bootloader. Because of this, I'm not sure whether all the modifications I've made to my past devices were enabled because I had an unlocked bootloader.
The only thing I know we can't do is install custom roms.
So... that leaves me with a question. What kinds of things can we do with just root?
On top of that, I have some specific questions (Might think of more later) :
Will root let us be able to install the auto-brightness control that the international version of the Note 4 has? If you don't know, you're able to adjust how low or high the auto brightness stages will go without turning off auto brightness on that version. It's so much nicer than having to turn off auto, adjust to where you want, and then remember to turn auto back on when you leave that environment.
Can we remap the capacitive multitask button to be a menu button instead? And to remap long-pressing that button to be the new multitask?
Thanks!
There's safe strap which allows us to have custom roms.

did they get a safestrap to work?
I'm assuming that they will. I suppose I should have worded my post different.
So it should have said, if we get safe strap we will be able to have custom roms.
It's not quiet the same as a unlocked bootloader though.
We have root?
what proof?
Well regardless of whether we have custom roms through some other means, I'd personally most interested in those 2 questions I stated. That's honestly the things I want most with root at the moment.
Where is root?
Root has not been proven yet. Patience. Everyone is jumping the gun here.

My main and only real reason for wanting root is for Ad Block ESPECIALLY in youtube. I hate those commercials... You can install Ad Block without root (as I just did) but it just doesn't seem to work as well as it did with my last rooted device... Although I'm not sure if this is the app devs getting more creative with how they get ads through or possibly even a Lollipop things...
The other main reason was so Rocket Player could delete podcasts I had already listened too.. That was resolved with the Lollipop update so I am good to go there...
Some really like Root for Titanium backup to back up ALL app data and settings... This was handy for me back when I was flashing ROMS all the time but without that capability I don't see myself having much of a need for that since the games I play store the data in the Android folder which I don't need root to copy/backup
Another great thing that has come about the last year or so is Xposed modules.. These give you just about ANY customization you could possibly want but of course in order to use them you will also need root..... There is a great app that pulls the commercials from Youtube which I will be checking out if Root is actually here... As I said before I hate hate the ads... Not that I don't buy FULL versions of some of the apps if I find them useful because I do... But with things like Chrome and Youtube I really miss the option of them being disabled... Yes I know Firefox has this built in but I like y Chrome for the ability to send pages from my PC to my phone with the click of a button....
I find that the Note 4 with the help of Apex PRO has helped me gain many of the features I once wanted Root and the ability to flash things for... So now I am just looking for the ability to kill some ads....
There are also a few apps I would delete or freeze with Titanium Backup once we had that option... Turning them off is nice but I want the space back...

I'm with you on the adblock and it's one of the things I've been looking forward too also. The ads mobile gets is ridiculous, I'm fine with them on most websites on the computer but the mobile versions really kill some things.

[Q] Xperia Play in 2019. Recommendations on Custom ROMs, SDs and emulators.

I've recently come into possession of practically new Xperia Play. And while I know it's specs are less than ideal nowadays, I figured there must be something that can be done to it in order to turn it into a relatively good console. So, I wanted to ask you all if this is possible. I've rooted and put on Custom ROMs on phones before, but never on something this... old?
To be clear, playing games is basically the one and only thing I want to do with this Xperia Play. If I can get to GBA emulation I'd be thrilled, but I can understand if something like that is impossible. Overall, I just wanted to ask you about your recommendations of Custom ROM and Kernel, which SD of which Class and Capacity should I get for it (because I know I'll have to use that in addition to making that SD internal storage somehow, I appreciate advice on that as well), and which consoles can I "reliable" emulate and play in it.
Thanks to everyone for your time.
hello, i just got one myself and from the research I have done it seems its more than capable of emulaiting GBA games. that being said the whole process of "jailbreaking" the device is still a little hazy for me. im trying to find the ost recent guide on how to do so but no real luck so far. iv rooted/jailbroken/modded several systems in my life time but never something like this.....hybrid.... to I consider it a hand held console or an android device (probably the later).
cant wait to have it up and running!!!
EDIT: apparently this is a taboo question. youre just meant to test them all and see which one fits you best... see...

hello, i just got one myself and from the research I have done it seems its more than capable of emulaiting GBA games. that being said the whole process of "jailbreaking" the device is still a little hazy for me. im trying to find the ost recent guide on how to do so but no real luck so far. iv rooted/jailbroken/modded several systems in my life time but never something like this.....hybrid.... to I consider it a hand held console or an android device (probably the later).
cant wait to have it up and running!!!
EDIT: apparently this is a taboo question. youre just meant to test them all and see which one fits you best... see...

My recommendation is to follow that FAQ link and figure out how to unlock the bootloader, then root the phone. Then just use Root Explorer or some other app to delete unnecessary system apps to free up the internal storage. Don't bother with custom roms and kernels unless you really want to and feel comfortable with it, it just makes it more difficult to deal with. While the device is old, the emulators has improved, so it's not necessary to put custom rom to have a good experience.
The main problem with this phone is lack of internal storage. I recommend to not sign into Google account and not use the Playstore, by the time it updates Playstore and Google Play services, it takes up the entire's phone space (not that there's even enough space to do so) and slow down the entire phone. Just sideload apps.
For the Verizon model R800x, if I remember correctly you can't officially unlock the bootloader, but it run stock Android, instead of the skin version and is pretty light weight. I would just root and delete the bloatware apps. It's possible to install CWM recovery after rooting. I did remember using a third party kernel for R800x device, but I don't remember how I unlocked the bootloader if I did. I rather not care about it now because the R800i GSM version is much more recommended. I remembered the kernel and custom roms were unstable with the R800x, so except for rooting, I really don't think it's worth the time do go to such a depth with this device at this point.

If you already managed to root the phone you're good to go, but if you haven't customize it too much, hold off for now. I'm making a comprehensive guide that will cover all the basics, tips, and useful apps that make this device run great. I saved a lot of firmware and files that are difficult to find anymore. Guide will be done soon, in one or two days.
