Thrown into a bootloop after rebooting using ROM Toolbox to change fonts. Rebooted, nothing. I reset cache, nothing. I can boot into recovery (the menu for clear cache, factory reset) but I'm not sure that's the solution. Sorry about this, I'm new to rooting and need some help.
Do I flash to the original .kdz file if I want to retain the settings and memory (music, photos, etc.)? Do I use LG Flash Tool 2014 for this? Or is there another way to get out of this bootloop without loosing internal data?

you need to re-flash the tot file located in the Verizon development section on how to flash back to stock located here, follow the instructions exactly, don't rush it and it will put you back to stock. You will not "retain" any settings and if all your stuff is saved on the internal memory and not an external SD you will lose them also. I was unable at any point after a font change to save the system via the factory reset option, nor via the clear cache option. I eventually re-flashed.:

You may be able to get away with just doing a "wipe data / factory reset" to fix this.yes, you're going to lose your current data that's on the phone, but its a faster solution than flashing the TOT. Just try that first to see If that works, if not, go with the TOT like the other guy said.
I assume you're not running a custom ROM, because this could be easier if you were (you'd just reflash the ROM without wiping).

Yeah I'm running stock, this means I can't reflash without losing data? I know I'm repeating myself but after looking at several tutorials it seemed that I could just flash the stock firmware to fix the system errors that are causing the bootloop, but you're saying that's only possible with a custom ROM?

No no no. You can flash the TOT file if you want to. It will work. Just make sure if you do, its for the Verizon G3. All I was saying is that it will be faster to just boot into recovery and try a factory data reset that way. It should fix the boot loop. You will lose the data on you phone either way though, whether its the TOT file you flash, or the more simple way of booting into recovery and doing a complete factory data reset. (In TWRP)
My comment about the custom ROM was that if you were running a custom ROM and ran into this bootloop, you could just reflash the custom ROM in recovery without wiping, and you would be able to keep phone data, and it would fix the bootloop. That's all. Lol

I do not know of how to do this with the LG Flash tool. This might be available to do if you have an image of the filesystem then used the chinese recovery apk but I am not 100% sure as I do not use it nor have I tried it personally. I do know I was able to get the phone to boot if I used the same size filenames, but if any of the filenames or filesizes deviate from the list already in the system/font directory it causes a bootloop. When I attempted to use the L based fonts and matched filesizes, and names, I got a systemui crash that was also unrecoverable and even though the system loaded I couldn't get debug mode even though it was set before the crash.

This does not work as I have already stated. Factory data reset did not change/alter the system/font folder at least on the VZW model I have. I tried both from recovery and from the LG boot menu (Hold Vol Down and Power, once LG screen comes up release and then hold down vol and power again until it boots into the LG service menu.) Also, WE DO NOT HAVE UNLOCKED BOOTLOADERS on VZW there is no custom recovery for his model.

Yup unfortunately. Had this happened in a week when the rumors are we might see unlocks for other models, he would have been in a much better position. I lost a bunch of photos too, which is why I now back them up to a cloud. I just have to remember to erase the "Special" ones from the wife! =P

Lol totally understand. I was just trying to help, and now I feel bad that I confused him more .
I actually ran into the same bootloop with trying to flash a new font a couple days ago , but my fix was much less involved than the TOT file haha . I hope you guys get an unlock soon and untethered recovery ( I think you guys have tethered right?) , because flashing the tot can be a pain in the ass. Plus development should start to pick up across the board too.
We have some kernels and stock deodexed Roms, but I'm dying for some aosp on this phone

Can I reupdate manually using a External SDcard or something?

I'm sorry for not being able to do all the research myself, but my GF has to meet her parents somewhere, we can't even call them with this problem. Would this method delete her data or just restore Jelly Bean on it?

It should probably just reapply the update over again and hopefully fix things and keep her root. I hope this is the quickest fix.

Yes, she is not rooted, she doesn't want her flash counter going up, etc.
ok that one wont trip it but if that is why she doesnt want root triangle away app will reset it
Problem didn't get fixed... I just don't get what could be wrong with the phone. It starts up fine, and for abotu 10 seconds it's fine but then something gets opened that must cause it to reboot. I don't know what service could be causing it to reboot. I wish I could at least backup all her data before the damn phone reboots itself.

Thank you so much for trying to help me through this. I really should have backed up her data, but I thought it was KIES and I wouldn't have to worry about any stupid problems happening.
First question is, is there anyway I can retrieve and backup her data without rooting? I know it's a longshot, but in recovery can I connect to ADB or something and extract stuff?
Second question, is there a update.zip of the jelly bean I could possibly give a try? I can still put and install update.zips through an external SD card.
I'm going to give the ICS firmware a try, hopefully it retains her data, but I've never downgraded before in hopes of keeping data. I just need to backup her text, phone, apps with kies and try teh update again.

screw it... I rooted her phone, I think this is the only way I can fix it. So I am going to try and make a back up using recovery, then factory reset, format system data and then try restoring her phone. I'll let you know how that goes.
Is there a sticky here that gets your phone back to stock and resets the counter? Or does rooting not affect the counter?

Root it. Use Triangle Away to reset counter and get rid of the triangle too. Also you could always Odin flash the firmware. Doesn't delete data... Done the same with my I9300. Wanted the XXELKC firmware and didn't delete data. Also worked with GF's I9305.
Its free on XDA from Chain fire and requires Super User. After doing that you can Odin that latest firmware and it'll be on stock.

Hey ppl
We'll I finally ended up giving my wife my t989..I have it rooted running Jedi jelly..here's the thing she wants it stock completely...I could just do a factory reset and unroot it with Odin but r computer is in the ****ters at the moment..so my plan is to install a stock ROM ...keep it still rooted but I need a stock ROM with the all tmobole BS cause she uses all that...anyone know of a stock ROM i could just flash on recovery ..
Well developers tend to make stock ROMs without any bloatware (t mobile apps) with root access. But they add tweaks on it and root it. So I think it would be hard for you to get a stock ROM that you could flash with bloatwares. Ask someone for a backup of their stock ROM and maybe you could back that up in you phone?
Or you might even get lucky and might find a stock ROM for your phone on threads named under you phone!
My second bet would be, flash a ROM that's almost stock (meaning all the mobile bloatwares will be gone) and then install all the bloatware from the play store. Good luck.

I just got the GN3 and naturally, the first thing I did was root it. That took a bit of time because it didn't seem to want to stock. Supersu kept force closing and i would get a pop up saying its been prevented from opening. After a bit i got it though. and used titanium to freeze all the unwanted bloat. but EVERY time i try to install a ROM i get into a boot loop. Ive tried just about every rom that is so far available to us. ive tried removing the battery, wiping cache, and doing system restore. but i just constantly get boot loops. Any thoughts?

Happy to hear it, I would read the thread, it's right below this one currently, as to avoid the bootloop issue. Also might want to get the .2 release of TWRP just in case., even though it gave you issues the first time..

Did you factory reset before Odin. If your going to Odin stock factory reset before. People don't realize Odin doesn't wipe apps/settings..... And system restore in twrp?

i did not factory reset in odin. never had to. usually these things would always wipe everything on the device and put it back completely to stock.
and i havent tried a system restore

No not in Odin. Factory reset in recovery. Be it twrp/cwm before the Odin flash or stock android recovery 3e after the.flash.....
.... Odin has never wiped apps . I've been using Odin since the vibrant..
And as for the backup restore.. I wouldn't until its all sorted out. Considering I was the first one in a boot loop. It could just be me scared lol

hi im on 4.42 and I was having problems with various errors so I did a hard reset. I am not rooted. I have since reformatted once again but I am still having problems with the phone rebooting a few times a day for no reason. also the phone is deleting settings and themes in things like beautiful widgets or it will error out an app all together like whatsapp and I can not install it again. is any of this common? could it be something inside the phone that a million hard resets will not fix? I don't have insurance so replacing it is not an option. could rooting help these problems?
thanks so much

I suggest rooting and installing a custom 4.4.2 rom. Since you dont have insurance it wont hurt to try a custom rom.

im actually trying to avoid rooting. its never been an easy process for me like it was for the touch pro phones. and it doesn't seem that any of the one touch apps work for this phone. are there? and if you reformat a phone and you have the same problems doesn't that mean its probably some problem on the hard drive of the phone? just asking. thanks

Well I shall start at the end and work towards the beginning. If you wipe and flash something new and still have same issues then it would most likely a hardware issue. I think you probably have some thing on your internal sdcard causing the problem though. To properly wipe the internal you need to at least install a custom recovery. Now there is no simple app that will root your phone but chainfires auto root is painless and simple. You need a windows pc with the samsung drivers installed. Then you open Odin (which comes with cf auto root and select the file and flash it through odin. Although that is not step by step directions it is pretty close. Now you dont even have to root your stock rom if you dont want to and if your going to try a custom rom I suggest not to even worry about rooting.
For a custom rom you would boot phone into download mode (simple key press sequence) connect to pc and flash recovery via odin. Once in your recovery you will wipe everything reboot recovery then flash the rom (which will be pre rooted) and see if the problem comes back?
If you want to try I or many others here would help you. I promise it is really no harder than what I described above and actually might be simpler to you once you have the step by step instructions.

Hi I'm a long time lurker but first time poster as I desperately need help. My S6 Edge is currently stuck in a boot loop after enabling ultra power saving mode then trying to rest my phone. My phone is rooted with the stock rom and stock recovery. If anything would there be any way I could backup up my data in download or recovery mode? Thanks in advance.

Will flashing the stock firmware cause me to lose the date currently on the phone or lose root?
Yes all your data will be gone

That's what I'm trying to avoid. If I must flash stock firmware is there any way I can backup my data first such as making an nandroid, Samsung smart switch, or adb?

Actually, I've been able to flash the stock firmware plenty of times without losing anything in the Data partition.
However, I make no guarantees. Generally, to set clear expectations, I just tell everyone the same thing: "Flashing anything to your device by any means will brick your device." If, for some reason, you manage to achieve results better than this, then congratulations. ... or something along these lines. >_<
But yeah, caveats aside, I've flashed the OCG stock and new OF6 firmwares via odin, never once has it broken or wiped my Data partition.
And, of course, once you flash the OF6 firmware, you'll be stuck on 5.1.1 without root or custom recovery. At least for now.
