Canadian I747M downgrate from 4.3 to 4.1.1 - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I've looked and still cannot get a clear answer.
I know AT&T cannot, but can I do it with the Canadian variant using a 4.1.1 firmware and odin?

It's still the same thing, you can't downgrade bootloaders.

i747M is the Canadian version.

Thank you so much for replying. So my phone is unlocked, and on Rogers Canada. Can I flash the Bell Canada OTA Leak from SamFirmware onto this phone? Does carrier matter in that?
you can flash whatever you want from within this forum since its the same phone. Yes you can flash the Bell OTA leak (needs to be LH1) just follow the steps in the thread and then flash the Rogers Modem afterwards if it flashes the Bell Modem.

Ok, one more question, please (I don't want to end up with an expensive brick). I am in Pakistan, and the phone is factory unlocked with Rogers Canada branding. If I grab the Bell Canada OTA update from Sammobile, will it lock my phone? and, is it safe to flash the OTA through Odin? It is currently working with a local carrier, so I assume that it's actually unlocked, but any way to verify that?
Also, you mentioned "follow the steps in thread"... what thread are you referring to?
I'm currently on Rogers LH1... do I need to flash Bell LH1 first before applying the OTA?
Thanks a lot in advance!
Once it is unlocked flashing other roms won't relock it.
If you are flashing the firmware via Odin, it will usually include the modem with it. So flash the Rogers one after if you want. It really won't matter which modem you use because you're not even in Canada to begin with.

There is a flashing guide sticky in the forums. Please read it to understand how flashing works.
OTA via Odin is fine, but getting CWM on your phone and flashing roms through it is a simpler and safer way in my opinion.
Anyways, please read the sticky for more information. Everything you need is in there, so search please.

a big question, I have a 747m from a friend (Telcel Mexico), and wants to mount the same ROM and settings that I have on my i747 AT & T (ROM use Hyperdrive).
I can work with identically 747m with my i747? or talk about that do not support any ROM, Kernel Root, Modems etc. between one and another device?
Thanks, sorry for the English, use translator

You're best solution would be to check the thread. From what I know, the Telcel one is really similar to the AT&T one.

[Q] How to Root a 4.1.2 to 4.3 with SGH-I317M

What I did was to download the firmware from http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and then use Odin to flash it onto the phone.
THIS WILL OVERWRITE EVERYTHING ON YOUR DEVICE (not the external SD card, just the internal storage)
I ended up with a stock 4.3 device.
Hope this helps,
Chris
Thanks Chris. The only thing is the firmware that this site has probably has bloatware correct?

You might have to register to get the firmwares to list. Once you do, you can just enter I317M in the "Search device here..." field, and then it will list all the different firmwares, both 4.3 and 4.1.2 for all of the cell providers.

I just assumed that you had a 317M since that's what is in the subject. I failed to realize you were a different poster. AT&T is just an I317 and searching with that does yield some AT&T firmwares, and you are quite right there is no 4.3 version of it there for me either.
I got the following from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2573955&page=7
Here is the OTA file http://www.mediafire.com/download/00kavsl80t0gkh9/I317UCUBMK6.zip
Use recovery to flash it. Only works if updated from MH3 build.
You might want to read the whole thread before downloading. I stopped at page 7 of 29 There's probably more information further in the discussion, but you probably want to read that on your own.
Cheers,
Chris

If I remember right, once on 4.3 you can no longer use the free unlock method. You will have to buy a code online. If you have a T999, you can try flashing the 4.1.1 modem and see if you can do it though. You wont get any signal if you are on a 4.3 rom until you flash back to the 4.3 modem btw.

You dont need to be rooted, but you do need a custom recovery (TWRP or CWM) in order to flash the modem. I never made any odin flashable packages for the modems, only recovery flashable.
Just so you know, flashing a custom recovery will void your warranty if its still valid and you care about that.
Thanks bro, I don't care about warranty.... So all I have to do now is flash a recovery then flash the modem, hmm wonder if anyone has ever got it to work like that before tho.... If it doesn't tho can u recommend a cheap unlocking site please

All I remember for sure is that on 4.1.2, samsung patched against this unlock method, but we were still able to flash the 4.1.1 modem and unlock. In 4.3, you cant use an older modem or youll get no signal, but Im just not sure if you can still use the free unlock method that way.
Ebay had several very cheap options at one point. Also, http://gsmliberty.net has/had(?) a promo where if you posted a video of yourself unlocking using their method they would refund you your money, essentially making it free. Not sure if that is still valid though.
---------- Post added at 10:21 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:18 AM ----------
There were several mentions of specific sellers that only charged a few bucks in the unlock thread if you want to dig in to find them.

Any 4.1.1 modem, as long as its one for your model device. If you wanted you could see if flashing a 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 rom would make a difference, but as before, I kinda doubt it will.
When we were updated to 4.1.2, and found that the unlock method was patched, all we had to do was flash an older modem. Didnt matter what build it was from.
agree

Upgrade from 4.1.1?

Hi all. Just looking for some info/direction. I haven't used my s3 for awhile. My daughter wants to try out Android so im going to let her use it for a bit. I just flashed back to rooted stock image. Didn't realize its still on 4.1.1 and boot loader is MG2. I've been doing some reading and the info is kind of all over the place. Anyone have any info on best/safest way to upgrade? Should I unroot and take OTA's...or flash a stock ROM....thanks for any info and tips.
I recommend flashing back to stock 4.1.1 ROM without root, then run ota updates until you got the most recent kit kat.

If you are on 4.1.1 or 4.1.2, any update you install will require you to update bootloader and modem. 4.1.1 was the last full unrooted ROM available for AT&T. Everything else was OTA. Once you OTA to 4.3 JB or 4.4 KK please keep in mind that you can no longer downgrade the bootloader or you will brick your device.
But yes, you can still root the device as far as I have been able to tell.

Thanks. Hmmmm thats right. Guess I need to think about it and see if the upgrade is worth it.
The most recent KK custom ROMs will require a KK bootloader and KK modem.
So I went back to stock (no root) when I go settings and update it tells me there is no update?

I recall seeing a post from another XDA member that said the update asked him to wait. He tried again in a few hours and the OTA update worked.
Just make sure you are not rooted and running a stock recovery.

Thanks! I'm not looking to unlock. The phones no longer on contract. Just upgrade the firmware so my daughter can take Android for a spin. She's 12. She has already used IPhone and now she's on Windows. Time for her to try out Android.
I suggest unlocking now before upgrading as the unlock codes may not be that cheap. I know for the Canadian s3, it about $18.

Just because you are not looking to unlock it _right_now_ doesn't mean you won't need it in future. Obvious reason to unlock would be for example if want to use it when you travel. If you don't unlock it now when you can, you could end up never unlocking it at all. And really, why not unlock?!

Is it possible to flash a Tmobile firmware to a Verizon Note7?

Since Tmobile is not allowed to sell new Note7s yet, I want to purchase one from Verizon. However, I heard that some Note7 features are removed by Verizon, so I want to use the firmware of Tmobile. Can I do that without root and without any other side effect? Can I get OTA from Tmobile in the future?
Anyone can help me out?

If so then your out of luck due to the bootloader change. If not then use Jovy's metohd. http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-note-7/development/rom-n930tuvu1apgc-6-0-1-deodexed-knox-t3461513. This will also install his rom for it. Which isn't bad.

You can try to flash it through the modified odin posted in Jovy's thread. See if that works. I had to root to flash the T-Mobile version on my sprint phone.
