[Q] No GPS after update to 1.6 - Fairphone

Hi all,
last week I Updated to Fairphone 1.6 and since this date I can't get a GPS fix. I tried to load EPO files but the download didn't work. I also reseted the A-GPS data and redownloaded it with GPS-Status. But even after one hour of jogging the Fairphone didn't had a GPS fix. Did anyone have an idea what to do?
I'm using XPrivacy but RunKeeper and GPS-Status are not restricted by it.

Has nobody issues with GPS after the update?

So some new Info.
I tried several ways to get the GPS running.
The current situation is that yesterday I got a fix with 8 satellites after I did this steps:
http://fix-my-gps.blogspot.de/
Then only step I did not made was the last run to install the app as background service.
One hour later I tried to get a GPS fix using GPS Status. But even after one hour of walking outside with the phone in my pocket I had no GPS lock.
Today I tried the tutorial of http://fix-my-gps.blogspot.de/ again. But I have no success anymore. But this evening I started GPS Status and waited for about half an hour and then the phone have had a lock with 4 satellites. But this lock was really unstable. In the moment when i picked up the phone from the table where it was laying it lost the GPS Lock and did not managed to get it back.
Than I downloaded the epo files from mediatek using my pc and copying the EPO.BIN and EPO.MD5 to /data/misc and did a chmod 777 for the files.
The phone recognized the EPO files but I don't get a GPS lock.
So in short the GPS is not completely nonfunctional but it seems to be very hard to get a lock and this wasn’t before I updated to 1.6.
So in short what did I do during trying to fix the GPS.
Deleted the mtkpgs.dat in /data/misc REBOOT
Nothing happened so restored my mtkpgs.dat.
Used FasterGPS to set the NTP server to the right one for me.
Used Engineer Mode to download EPO and restart AGPS (EPO download always failed, so downloaded files via PC....)
Did a HOT, FULL, AGPS Restart via YGPS.
And I recognized that sometimes I can't start YGPS using the Engineering Mode because the YGPS is grayed out. When I then start Titanium backup it told me that YGPS is no longer installed on my phone. So I recovered it with titanium. But after one reboot it is gone again...
Yes I know I could do a hard reset and then check if GPS is working again correctly but as I know that GPS worked normally before the software update I think it have to be a software issue and I'm not a friend of doing a hard reset when something don't work because so you never will know why something don't work. (You don't buy a new car only because your current car has periodic missfirings )
So if anyone have an idea I would appreciate your help.

Hi,
You are the only one having these problems I assume some software error and think best is to try a flash the whole phone.

So,
i did a reflash now. Will try the GPS tomorrow.

Ok hey everyone
Today I tried the GPS At first it don't work (no fix after 15 Minutes of going by bike). After that I copied the EPO data that I downloaded from mediatek FTP server (valid until tomorrow) and after that I have a fix. I will try it tomorrow again but I think GPS is working now but I would be very interessted what was wrong with my phone before I did the reflash. The only difference now is that I did the reflash with the unified storage system now. After that I recovered my complete apps (no system apps) with Titanium backup.

Bluetooth manager doesn't start until I soft reset

Hi all,
I have a strange problem: bluetooth manager works fine after a soft reset. I can my PPC the whole day and it will always start normally (read: the screen that shows BT shortcuts shows up). The problem occurs when I turn off the phone over night (flight mode). The next day I can't get the BT manager to show the shortcuts screen - BT can be switched on and off but neither the BT manager or the BT settings screen will show up (there is no error message!!!). After I do a soft reset everything starts working...
Has anyone come across this kind of a problem in the past? I couldn't find anything using search on this forum...
My device info is (DutchRetail ROM):
ROM: 1.40.00 WWE
Radio: 1.13.00
Ext ROM: 1.40.556 WWE
I have tried uninstalling almost all extra software that I have installed after a hard reset but the issue is still here.
Thanks for all suggestions on what else I can try.
Hi Poga,
Yep, I get exactly the same problem :-(

Do either of you have Goodlink software on your device?
same problem no goodlink
Same problem but no goodlink software
I also get another funny problem where sometimes I go to connect to my bluetooth access point from my phone and it just has the little pie icon saying it's doing something, then it stops and it hasn't connected (the connection icon stays the same) and I can't make any sort of connection. It then does this everytime I try to connect.
I don't know how i fix it, but I combination of many soft resets various flight mode turn ons and fiddling it eventually works. It's very frustrating and it's happened on every software version. Right now i"m running 2.04.00. I have a CDMA from Telecom NZ running radio HA_01_151 right now (but I've tried other radios).
Somebody else had this problem I noticed but nobody replied to his posts.
I've got the same problem I hope someday that someone makes a fix for it. I run the XDA IIs BlueAngel 1.40.00 Asian O2 ROM WWE. =/.
Same problem here - only solution I had was to go into settings/memory and then stop all programs running - then the bluetooth manager appears without the need for a softboot..
Pain in the arse. :!:

I do and I have the same problem. I've been suspecting that it may have something to do with that because when I reset and I can start the manager just fine before I start Goodlink, but after I start goodlink it's a pain. Once, I tried to start BT manager then it didnt... i forgot all about it then suddenly some 11 hours later it just popped up by itself. Goodlink had been running continuously.
Any ideas???
I sometimes have the same effect.
What I usually do to resolve it (without soft reset):
- I installed PocketNav (kills programs which run in the background)
- I select 'Close all but Ative' in PocketNav
Then the Bluetooth Manager works again.
Hope it helps.

This is due to memory limitation in WM2003SE. When it finds that the memory is not sufficient it wont run Bluetooth Manager or Wifi. I had this problem a lot until i have shifted to WM5 which has more than 100 mb when the device starts. I guess that is why M$ has built WM5 for that reason and also for persisten storage of course.
The "memory limitation" is indirectly the problem. The Goodlink, which is more than three times the memory hog as any other 3rd party app out there, is the direct problem. I could write a college discertation on the amount of bugs in this awful software. And yes, it is good for push email...but at the expense of everything else that is good about these multimedia devices we own. The typical "close-when-you-tap-the-X" software utilities don't shut down Goodlink on my device even though they successfully shut down every other software I own (over 40 titles). So I have to use MemMaid to kill its process. But Goodlink will restore itself in a matter of minutes as it ventures out to the server looking to synch mail, calendar, contacts. If there was ever a reason to bring back public hangings, it would be for the Goodlink windows OS development team.
I don't really see any issues with Goodlink eating my memory. Then again, I've converted from a strictly fun user to a strictly business user so the whole gaming and multimedia thing doesn't quite do it for me anymore.
Steiner,
I tried PocketNav to see if it would truly close GoodApp.exe. Although it does seem to shut the application down, the 6+MB exe still is open in memory. Using MemMaid it shows that it never really closes.
I also didn't have the Goodlink software installed . My solution to the problem was: I installed the Sprite Backup software and set it to automatically restart my PPC @ 6 am after creating a backup. So in a way, this problem was very benifical to me - I now have a fresh backup of all the software every morning and the device reboots every morning without my intervention (no BT errors, no WiFi errors, etc).

Good idea!!!

bloody phone!!!

just as you get one thing working correctly...something else f***s up!!
just went to check some mails and now my GPRS settings don't work.
I've not changed anything, or messed with connections...it's just stopped working.
followed the instructions on the t-mobile website...but still no GPRS connection. Just nothing happens..doesn't even try to conect and tell that I have a username or password incorrect..just does nothing but tell me that the current connection cannot be used for your request.
wtf??
Can anyone let me know where I can find step by step instructions to get this set up?
many thanks
even worse...if I try to access anything while connected by wifi....the same message!!
the current connection cannot be used for your request!!...
URGENT HELP PLEASE
Just about had enough and thought about a hard rset....better back yo first though right?....and now active snyc wont recognise my device....could it get any worse???
Hmm is this a HTC Artemis or T-Mobile MDA Compact III? if its the later the hardware is not fitted for WiFi so that option won't work.
When my device is playing up in this way (which it does at least once a week) I simply soft reste the device by poking the stylus in the reset hole. Being a soft reset it doesn't wipe any data or settings - I wold start with a soft reset and see what happens next - Mike
You could try deleting your connections and the installing a tmob connection cab which shoudn't be too hard to find on this site.
This is one particular bug I,ve not yet had the pleasure of, but I can appreciate what a pain it is.
Do you have a backup that works?
well...I'm having a nightmare!!!!!!!
hard reset the phone (nothing seemed to be going my way)
someone on here told me that I could save a copy of pim.vol and then replace this back onto my machine and I would have all my contacts back....sadly not..if you try to copy this file back you just get a sharing violation!! I'll be making a comment about this in the post where it was suggested!!
so, might have to spnd the next few hours adding my contacts back in.
NEXT....to try to fix the sync problem I upgraded to 4.5 (as suggested by the MS website) ....that screwed my PC up well and proper!!...everytime I tried to connect my PC usage went to 100% and nothing worked!!
so had to search for my original CD and go back to 4.2 which seems to be ok now.
I do have a back up that I made a few days ago...just a little concerned that it will put back all the issues I had in the first place, as I'm not sure when I lost my connection stuff.
what a complete nightmare tody!!
try to restore, at least you will get you contacts back which I am sure though I can't point you at it, there are other ways of backing up.
Just finished restoring my backup from a few days ago.
Got my contacts back which was one of the main things.
then had to set up a new connection with active sync (now called PC2, how do I delete PC1???)
anyway..everything is back to normal..including my GPRS and wifi working...
happy man now...
Cool.
Just open AS on your PC, click file and you will see an option to delete a partnership.

[Q] Wlan broken, any fixes?

Hey guys, searched for a while now but couldn't find a similar thread to this related to our phone.
Suddenly,
my Wlan stopped working.
The issue is well known, it starts up, says "unable to scan for networks" and shuts down.
Same goes for setting up a W-Lan hotspot, starts up and immediately after it stops trying.
Both worked flawlessly before.
Since then, i tried cache wipes, reboots etc.
I am on the newest dz radio, using Virtuous Sense 2.0.0 for sum time now.
I found a workaround for a galaxy s that implied deleting the configuration file. This file seems to be at a different location on the desire z. Additionally, it probably has a different filename.
I was only able to find the file with the information of my saved wlan connections (WTF, why are the passkeys writting in clear text, not crypted in any way??) - this was the only file in the /data/misc/wlan directory.
I actually only want to full wipe as a last consequence,
since my phone's a bit shaky. Last year I had a severe issue with my sd-card slot (maybe someone remembers), which somehow disappeared month later without any interaction - pure magic. I even replaced the slot before with no improvement - suddenly the functionality returned.
I actually don't want to lose sd-card functionality again, so i even fear flashing a new rom.
I hope there is someone who can give me some input - maybe some config files are missing or stuff - i only hope its not hardware related.
In the meantime I also tried reflashing my rom and flashing the radio again,
no success
EDIT:
Okay screw it, I wiped and flashed my rom again - same issues,
Sounds like a hardware issue...
any ideas?
Greetings

Wi-Fi completely broken.

What happened/is happening:
Wi-Fi won't turn on. This includes anything that uses it. (Tethering, normal connection to routers)
The settings application will try to turn it on, but it just sits there until I enter another menu or back out and re-enter, at which point it shows it as off. Built-in wifi tethering menu in the same place says 'Error' and the checkbox is disabled.
USB tethering still works.
OpenVPN and its tun0 device still works.
Bluetooth... I don't use it, so I don't know.
What I've done:
I tried getting a logcat but I don't have any computers that I have administrative access to install the HTC drivers on, I wasn't able to.
I did some searching, and some frantic listing of directories, and comparing them to a friend's G2, and I found something.
`ls /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/` (same with /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/) gives me a list of directories corresponding to devices from `iwconfig`, but none with the names of eth0, wlan0, or wl10. List of devices from iwconfig:
lo, gannet0, dummy0, ifb0 ifb1, rmnet0, rmnet1, rmnet2, usb0, sit0, and ip6tnl0
Roughly the same list in /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/ (and /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/)
I've also flashed CM10.1 (Flinny's Andromadus build 25) and CyanogenMod 7.2.0 stable from their wiki. I started from 10.1, reflashed it, then flashed 7.2.0. No change.
I used CWM Recovery to format my /system partition and restore CM7.2.0 Stable, no change.
I have searched for about two weeks, and I've come up with nothing, short of getting a new phone, or getting some kind of backup of the files. I need a solution, because having Wi-Fi working is pretty important right now.
Had an issue like this way back when once and a clean wipe (including efs partition) and reinstalling ROM fixed it. Toward the top of this thread you'll find a link to the superwipe tool I'm talking about
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43195539
If this doesn't work then digging through the old threads for a fix should turn something up as I've seen many WiFi error threads over the years.
Oh and a logcat should help, just get an app from play store if you have no PC to use
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Worked!

Worked great! Thanks! It kinda wiped my data partition though, so I had to spend an hour queuing downloads on the Play Store. Better than having broken Wi-Fi.
I was wrong.

Not fixed, actually. I thought it had worked, but last night when I decided to power on my computer and start tethering to it, it was broken again. I'm getting kinda tired of putting up with this phone.

Help with fresh install from ADB

Hi
I've got a Firephone which was randomly rebooting itself and then refusing to acknowledge the sim card or wireless network.
I decided to re-flash stock ROM via ADB and downloaded update-fire-phone-35.4.6.1_user_461013820.bin from the amazon web site.
I have managed to side load the .bin file OK and rebooted the phone. However, when I am trying to complete the set up, after choosing which language I want, the phone does not recognize my sim card so I just skip that stage and move on (tried with and without sim card and the following issue is the same). I choose the correct time zone but I'm unable to register the phone at this stage as the phone doesn't see any WiFi network. I try Register Later and the next stage is either enable or dont enable location services. It doesn't matter which one I chose as the phone then freezes and then after a while, it reboots and the whole process starts again.
I have carefully removed the back cover (out of warranty) and double checked the antenna connections are being made but this hasn't helped. I've even tried different stock ROM all the way up to update-fire-phone-32.4.6.5_user_465000520.bin but again get no further on each boot up.
Any ideas guys (girls) as its driving me mad now I cant even get a crappy working phone back. TIA
Paul
Update: Fixed the issue with Setup detecting WiFi. Removed back cover and took out antenna cable and refitted it. Must have been a loose connection. Still refusing to see my sim card (which is OK in another phone BTW).
