Is it possible to enable SMS/MMS and phone on sgh-i467? - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

Hello everyone!
I've been lurking these forums for the past two weeks or so, and I've finally decided to ask a question that I can't seem to find a resolution to. I recently purchased a used AT&T sgh-i467. Like many others, I hoped to be able to jump back and forth between my smartphone (Note 3) and my Note 8 tablet. Unfortunately, it seems as though most people aren't able to get an AT&T sim with a smartphone data plan to work on the sgh-i467. I tweaked around with the build.prop file for a while yesterday, and I was finally able to change my APN settings from AT&T broadband to AT&T phone, which gave me full 4g LTE support using the sim from my note 3. However, I do not have the option to enable sms in Hangouts to test sms/mms.
So, I was wondering if it's possible to somehow enable the phone.apk and mms.apk on the sgh-i467? Or, can these apks be ported from the international model that actually supports their functionality? Or better yet, is there a script or build.prop modification that can enable these functions? I'd really like to be able to get support for sms and phone calls, if possible. I'm going to continue researching, but I couldn't seem to find a great resolution as of yet. If anyone has any information regarding this, or doesn't mind sharing the mms.apk and phone.apk for me to try replacing the stock ones with, I'd really appreciate it!
Also, as a side note, I finally got some time to try the suggestions made in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2748092 and was able to get Safestrap booting, but modifying the lcd density in build.prop didn't do anything to get safestrap rotated or displaying properly. However, I hope its a step in the right direction and that we may be able to get this minor issue sorted out and start building roms for the i467. I'm still pretty new to the android dev/mod scene, but I like to think that I learn pretty quickly and I'm willing to give most suggestions a shot.
Thanks for any and all help with resolving this issue!

MIUI CDMA Rom Tips

Just wondering what interesting, useful and cool tweaks you guys have been able to make in the MIUI Rom. Im not talking about adding anything complicated. If it can't be done by installing a Zip from SD or an APK then I am most likely not willing to try it since I am such a noob at all this.
I am currently have a couple of issues.
1. I can't dial *228 to activate my phone on my carrier (not even sure that it matters since the phone is working) without the phone FCing.
2. Still can't send a sms over 160. My guess is that the MIUI has the same issues as Cyanogen since it won't work in that rom either.
3. Beautiful Widgets weather wont geolocate.
I love the Rom. It has a great quadrant score! Just wondering if y'all could share your tweaks and such.

I wonder who you are.. haha.
1 and 3 are known, well, spoken of problems. Hopefully they'll tweak it. The second can be fixed by going into handcent/sms app and selecting split messages. Splitting them will still send all of the message itself, but it just splits the characters by 160 for each message.. not really sure what the deal was there, but it works.
RE: MIUI ROM Tips
As far as OTA updates go, try dialing *228+. It does the same thing. (Found this tip on www .droidforums.com).

[Q] Small tweak if possible? - KB shortcut button remap?

I try not to ask for help, but unfortunately this one has me a bit stumped..
I started this journey a couple weeks ago by picking up a T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2. Needless to say I <3 it.. Shortly thereafter I received an AT&T upgrade and figured my T-Mobile days were becoming limited (REALLY poor service where I live), So I got an AT&T version.
Although I've rooted both and such within hours of them being charged - I've found one (what I want to call BIG) difference, and I hate it.
It's the keyboard when I'm texting. On the Tmobile version the space button is a little smaller, has a comma on the left side, period on the right side and the 'mode' button (handwriting/speech/keyboard/settings) ..
On the AT&T version the space is a little wider, to the right is the . to the left is a single button that expands out to have ,?!' talk, handwriting, settings.. All of these are into this one little button.
With Tmobile the 'magic button' (since I dont know what it's called) - it defaults to the speech/speak now prompt. AT&T's button defaults to handwriting..
I ACTUALLY use the voice version, however I can count the number of times I've used handwriting / spent on 1 hand. Therefore the only thing I really would pray for is to be able to get the Tmobile note 2 Keyboard layout on the ATT note 2
Background: Both phones are setup exactly the same, with the exact same settings etc.. Just stock roms etc, rooted w/ CWM..
See Screenshots
Wow that is strange. Do you use the number keys at the top? If not you could try out the 4.2 stock keyboard. You could also try copying the "SamsungIME.apk" from "system/apps" from the T-Mobile N2 and onto the AT&T N2.

Well I went ahead and copied both the apk and the opek?
Anywho what that did was it made the 'smart' button turn into the comma.. Better than before (since I dont use the handwriting in texts etc).
The space button is still large as in the difference between the ATT/TM versions.
Also - yes I do use the numbers, since i have many alpha-num passwords it's quite handy not having top flipflop between the regular keyboard and 'sym' to be able to get to the numbers.
Hrmm any other magic files to copy? =)
I'd really just love to have the keyboard from the TM version instead of the ATT version.. Sounds easy but I have no clue where it would be hiding..
I'm going to try it without the odex this go around, will post the results.. Im thinking that may have something to do with it still being different..
I dont know a whole lot about the guts of android programming so I'm going to wing it till I get it where I like it..
If I didn't have to worry about the bloat and other stuff from TM, i'd almost flash the TM version onto it, then flash the ATT modem? /shrug,, however I do really did the I7105 international firmware,, it's fairly nice but i've had a few bugs with it.

Welp - just odex free didnt help at all..
I did however install the TM image which isn't too bad, put the ATT rom on it, and i'm ALMOST where I want it to be..
Somehow the samsungIME.apk/odex isn't all I'm looking for..
Does anyone know what other files control the keyboard layout / keys etc on these?
(Would love to run international 7105 w/ Tmobile key layout =)
Seeing as you have both phones, you're in an ideal position to compare the config files and see what parameters are different.
The general concept:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1988202
I am guessing - GUESSING - that the solution lies in what is different between the two phones in here:
/system/usr/keylayout
(The layout files are all text files.)
Good luck!

I finally got the chance to disect the directory you mention.. Unfortunately the files are exactly the same from what I can tell by looking at each file side by side.
Also copying the whole directory over changed nothing - which further supports said theory in case I overlooked something.
GOT it!
Root Instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2143479
Once rooted, use ES with Root Explorer - change the / and /system to r/w first
Copy /system/crc/feature.xml to your computer, edit with notepad.
copy the feature.xml to /system/crc (rename the old one)
Changes to feature.xml:
<CscFeature_Email_UseFixedBgColorAsWhite>false</CscFeature_Email_UseFixedBgColorAsWhite> (Changed to false)
<CscFeature_Sip_DefaultMultiModalKeyAs>VOICE</CscFeature_Sip_DefaultMultiModalKeyAs> (Changed to VOICE)
The second change was what set the button to go to voice instead of HANDWRITTING. That's what I was looking for!

I chose to go with a custom ROM for my N2 (AT&T) and I grieved the loss of my Sammy Keyboard. Once you move to custom, the keyboard is standard or aosp android. i never liked the Android keyboard layout, even though it;s functionality ran circles around Sammy.
To cut to the chase, their are some reasonably priced key boards in the Play Store that run circles around both Sammy and Android. I use Swift, which seems to be the current leader in sales and ratings. Swipe is another one that I hear a lot of people like and it is a third of the price of Swift. I think Swift is worth what you pay for it, even though I still like the layout of the Sammy better.

General GNex(GSM) help

I do not do too much in the way of making anything.
Although, i do seek out whatever files such as
¤ROM's
¤Radios
¤Boot loader
¤Apps
¤Kernels
¤Recoveries
¤Programs(tool kits, auto-root, Odin, etc.)
¤ADB too
¤Boot Animations
I do keep most of what i find for the GNex(GSM Google play "edition").
I am always flashing and running tests against things that need to see how well they work where i live(tx) for t-mobile which is the same, of course, as at&t,and metro PCS in my area.
¤¤I just keep a fresh ROM which i feel it gives me the ability to help people who are just starting out on flashing and rooting.
Message me for important questions.
Post for general "troubleshooting".
I wont link in board. arrangements can be made though.
I will do my best to keep an eye on here.I don't plan on using the App but A am just a browser away.
What I keep "constant".
The screen shots i took show a few constants.
¤Keep to newer ROM's mainly because i was gathering too many Gigs.
¤I did not notice any big change in boot loaders so i stick to the newest one
¤I use the the newest RIL and Base Band (there are apps to help)
i did notice i change in changing these in *#*#4636#*#*.
i wouldn't go digging around in there if you don't know what to look for
¤No Google framework flashed.(too much signing in) i use 3rd party apps to keep updates
i also save my phone book to a .vcf and import it to phone.
*not suggested*
¤Total-commander app and windows or Linux program help.
¤AOSP is a must for a back up ROM.
¤I found a kernel i personally like. i find a way each time to get it to work with changing ROM's
What I have broken and fixed
Last but not least...what i have put this phone through, and what i have brought it back from.
¤Hard-Bricked in all sorts of ways
¤Soft-Bricked even more ways
¤Failed ROM flashes due to missing a step
¤¤*when i first started learning i lost my radios network info. required to connect to anything through RIL....
¤¤*figured out a way that worked on getting it back without racking my head inside files sifting through code*
¤i know a few work around when it comes kernels
¤i don't use Google framework anymore, there are benefit.
¤rooted every way i could find, including ADB pushes.
¤some tool-kits(though not suggested). the GUI is normally easier to manage.
¤Odin of course. Heimdall when applicable
¤Apps for Apps....without too many Apps slowing do the phone
*~*~*~AOSP*~*~*~AOSP. i cannot stress that enough.
I have put this phone through whatever i can find and it still work just fine.coming out on top with this phone is the only option.
Ask, ask, ask....many of us (i believe) do this because its interesting.

Returning to The Epic! Can I get some direction?

Hello all. I will be returning to a newish epic soon...hella missed this phone. I've got tons of old files from a couple years ago but I assume there has been lots of goodness put together since my epic got trashed. I've read lots of forums, dowloaded some files, yadaya but If there is still anyone out there using or developing for the epic, can you please give me some direction. Best way to root, from what I assume will be a stock phone. (still odin v3+1.85?) Also and more to the point of my question, Roms? Best roms that actually have valid download links? Thank you for your time if anyone actually reads this

I don't know how much advice I can give about what is "best", but I can tell you what I am still using on my "daily driver"...?
I try to keep up with the CM11 "Nightlies", and so right now I'm using the latest: cm-11-20150614-NIGHTLY-epicmtd.zip
The kernel (?) I'm using: notest-epicmtd-kk4-20140401-cma.zip
I make use of Link2SD app as far as juggling space for apps.
Somewhere along the way, the stock Android Messaging app just stopped working correctly for me (couldn't compose a new message - just greyed out - never could figure out what was wrong), so I've "Frozen" the stock Messaging app and installed the (almost identical) SoftCoil Messaging app.
The stock Android browser did not seem to perform very well for me, so I went looking for a "lighter footprint" browser - right now I am trying out the "UC Mini" browser, and so far so good (?) although I still don't rely on using the browser that much, so maybe I haven't done solid testing of it...
I'm not a super-whiz at this, but if there's anything I can answer to help, I'll try. Maybe you'll have some ideas or find out some things that are more up-to-date than what I'm doing...?
Glad to see I'm not the only one posting in this "Ghost Town" these days...
(Although to be honest, I did just get the letter from Sprint about the discontinuation of the WiMax network... so the months are ticking away as for how long I will stick with this, too... soon as I buy a new phone for my lady, I will probably inherit her Nexus 4 and finally say goodbye to the beloved Epic 4G...)
Thank you very much for taking the time to share that info with me. I just got my new Epic about 20 min ago and can't wait to get some CM goodness going. I really didn't expect a reply to this at all so thank you again. I'll post again if I come across something worth sharing.
Oh also give puffin browser a try, I use it on my Tab 2 and its pretty damn fast!

Howdie!
I see you are one of the last people in this forum actively doing things. If I have an old Epic lying around that I want to use as a gaming only system--doesn't need any phone support, which is the most stable rom for that feature? I'm not looking to strip a carrier radio out or anything, just don't care if works or not, I plan to disable everything but wifi.
Suggestions--if you don't mind?
TIA

S4 Mini Duos (i9192) - Hunting For A ROM

Hi everyone. Firstly - thanks for making this AMAZING forum! I've been visiting here forever and always found things to make general device usage easier. Rarely have I ever had to make a post because the questions are already asked, and you guys are really amazing so there's really not much help that I can provide.
Today - I'm looking for assistance in making a decision. Which ROM to use.
I know there may be answers like - try them - find what works for you - and such but my problem is I've tried a few and nothing is perfect. Or problem-free. I'll list a few I've used and let you know what I'm looking for.
To be frank, if I could get the contacts to work in StockRomLite V2.0 or get the dialer / SMS in one of the AOSP / CM versions then that would be the end of this. If it's possible for me to use Titanium and remove those parts from one ROM and restore to another..........................please let me know!!!
LOOKING FOR
Everything works (functions of the phone - calling, wireless, etc).
Lollipop style keyboard with number pad at the top.
Phone doesn't slow down with usage.
Helium works.
Dialer has option to call from SIM1 or SIM2 off the bat (like stock).
SMS has option to send with SIM1 or SIM2 off the bat (like stock).
That's basically what I want. Here's what I've used and what I've found.
BlissPop
Most things work.
Doesn't have dialer/SMS similar to stock.
Things that don't work include Helium (depending on version).
Some elements erratic on screen.
CM/AOSP
Most things work.
Helium doesn't always restore. Mostly doesn't restore - depending on version of ROM.
Doesn't have dialer/SMS similar to stock.
StockROMLite
V2.0 - Just about everything works. Almost perfect but........
Contacts keeps crashing (android.process.acore) and nothing fixes it.
V1.3 - Helium doesn't restore anything at all.
S6 Lollipop Port
Most things work.
Slows down after being used for a bit.
Doesn't allow moving as many apps as AOSP/CM.
S5 Lollipop Port
Same as S6 but doesn't slow down even half as badly.
I've not seen any dialer /SMS app in the market that I could use to substitute the stock ones. If I could do this then I'd fish around the different CM/AOSP variants until I found one that works better. But. I'm kind of at the end of my rope. I always try to have the same handset for myself and my wife so I could troubleshoot the problems and give her the things with less headache, but it's been a while and I'm not sure how to proceed. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!
*EDIT*
Actually what I'm going to do currently in my testing on my device is this..........restore a different OS like CM11/12/BlissPop/S5 Lollipop. Once done I'll restore my Helium backup then use Titanium to do the backup. Then put back StockROMLite 1.3 and restore from Titanium. Because Helium isn't working to do the restore at all. Also my wife's phone is currently on CM11 I think. And Titanium seems to be giving issues there. So I'd love to get this sorted and then just stick to whichever one just works. Thanks again in advance!
*EDIT*
Currently installing CM13 since dual SIM now works. It runs nicely but the inconvenience with the dialer / SMS would be my issue. I'll overlook that if everything else works however. Will post back and close the thread if that's the case. Oh yeah. Forgot to mention that with some other versions of AOSP/CM the dialer setting to "always ask" gets changed to SIM1 on reboot. Issue is present based on the version of AOSP/CM.
