[Q] can i update the firmware on my rooted lg? - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Will i brick it or all I'll need is to root again ?

You can try. Some people have reported success in updating the PC Suite software without loosing root. Worst case, you'll loose root and have to redo it.

Some people get this errors. Like js931, I had no problems applying OTAs with root, I went from v10b to v10g without loosing root. Yesterday I applied v10j with a manual flash via kdz file, lost root but just re-rooted with purpledrake.

In that case, just do the Upgrade Repair Errors option in PC Suite. It'll flash the latest ROM for your IMEI, but you'll loose root. Just reroot afterwards.

v10b is indeed a battery drainer, and the phone was too hot doing nothing. v10g was better but kinda laggy. v10j seems to work great, its smoth, doesn't drain much battery and the heat is normal. For now is the best choice, the oly downside is that it comes with a lot of bloatware compared to my stock v10b that was pretty clean.

I did this and i was getting "update error" plaaplaaplaa.. Now my device is bricked. I tried what PC Suite said "Take off battery and put again and connect with usb" but always when i open device it's goes do "updating firmware" but it's isn't doing anything. I was with rooted v10g rom (international 16gb D855). Let's see what service shops says.

Cannot upgrade to V10i via OTA...

So everytime I check for update it says "Your phone is not registered yet." I unrooted and reflashed (Normal flash) v10g but I still get the same thing...
Should I download the whole v10i .KDZ or is there some kind of solution to this?
I read somewhere that this problem occurs when you flash with your SIM card in, but I flashed without SIM this time...
(I prefer download the whole .kdz than making a hard reset etc... lol)
What model do you have? D855, D850,D851,F400S/K/L,F460S/K/L? Flashing an updated kdz should be fine but I would double check

if you have a d855 download the kdz and flash it, it will not harm your device if done correctly

I eventually flashed the v10i, I was searching for a more hassle free solution (ie, try to get the OTA to work again) but I had time to download that huge file and flash it LOL. However the OTA still doesn't work! :\

IF you are rooted it won't work because the roottriger is set of, if you doon't get the update try searching manually (in the update app) if that doesn't work use the imei kdz methode(use the search button) , if all those fail you probably didn't got the update

I did try unrooting and flashing the stock rom again! (as I mentioned in OP) but even after this I still couldn't get an OTA update (and if I tap check update it says "Phone is not registered Yet" I did the IMEI stuff to update since it was the only way lol...
But I don't understand why is my OTA update button broken :/ (even after a reflash and unrooting, but not by a factory reset.)
My brother has the exact same G3, rooted and has Xposed framework, busybox etc but he got the OTA update and updated successfully!

[Q] V10P for F460S, rootable?

Hi all, my gf and I both received the update for v10p. She updated and I didn't because she is not root and the update aborted on me since I rooted mine with stump.
It just said value package update (156MB). Haven't seen any differences for now. Any one got it also? Is it rootable with the current methods?

It's not rootable, don't take OTA's.
What is your previous version?
I'm using f460l and still on v10k.

Mine is still on 10J because I couldn't update due to being root.
My phone is still root after the v10P update (ota).
Unfreeze all bloatwares or system apps (if some are frozen).
If you don't have any result, you need to go back to stock, there's no other solution.
I uninstalled bloatware using titanium backup and converted Google search and play services to user app to fix the battery drain using greenify. Might this be the issue?
By the way, have you found any noticeable differences with the update?
Cheers
No, I just saw little changes about the Google Apps but nothing else (no more battery life or something)
A very minor update as I can see.

[Q] Rooted - can't get OTA Lollipop

I used Purple Drake some time ago to root my device but I'd now like lollipop and would rather get that without wiping device (which I think is necessary for a custom ROM install).
First time I tried the OTA, it came up saying that it suspected rooting so wouldn't install. I unrooted but it still didn't work.
Following another thread on here, I tried to use LG PC Suite to fix the issue but I can't get PC suite to fix the problem.
So, can you help me?
I'd be happy with stock OTA lollipop (understanding that I'll lose root, possible permanently) if someone can work out how to get past the root check on the update (I don't have root anymore but it thinks that I might have)
I'd be happy with a custom ROM based on stock, if I didn't have to do a full wipe.
Any helpers?

There's a guide to flashing back to stock in the forum here, I think you need to flash something else too
Thanks - the only guide that I can see about flashing back to stock involves a wipe also.
If you can find a thread that allows a flash back to stock without a wipe, that would be ideal.

No such thing exists. If you are going to do a full and proper unroot or return to stock to take an OTA (as you should) your device will be wiped completely. If you would Bump your G3 and install a custom Lollipop rom (I highly recommend this), then you could upgrade to Lollipop by only wiping your system and data partitions, not your Internal Storage as well. You would lose all yours apps, but not the contents of your internal SD card. If you let Google auto-backup and restore all apps and data on the first boot, it will put everything back the way you had it before you're even used to the new Lollipop environment.
I have looked at the custom ROMs - is there a bumped ROM based on stock where "everything works"?
LG PC Suite let me install Lollipop even though I'm rooted?

I'll give this a go on another computer as whenever i tried the repair or update options, cut kept telling me That it couldn't check the update status. I had assumed That this was tied into the phone being rooted but possibly not.
I think PC Suite doesn't check if you're rooted (AFAIK, don't quote me on this one) but DON'T UPDATE WHILE ROOTED some.people have had bootloops and other issues after updating. Go back to KitKat, root and flash a pre-rooted Lollipop ROM

best thing to do is wait, to be honest. Lollipop has only just started to roll out to most markets, so devs haven't realistically had much time to work their magic.
ChupaChups is a decent ROM (although I think it's for the international D855 only) and is based on 5.0, so try that?

Also it's based on 20D which is fairly recent (my D855 only just got the 20E update)

I've tried a different machine connected to a different network and not only do I get this error message but when I ask PC Suite to see if there is an updated version of the PC Suite software, it complains that it isn't connected to the internet on both machines.
Does anybody have a link to a version of the software which is known to work?

Hey guys, im jumping on this thread as im in the same boat with OP, im on stock rooted kitkat and just got the OTA update but id rather keep root so our only option here is a custom ROM i suppose?
Couple of questions here... Do we need a customer recovery? If yes which one?
And, is AndroidNow HD or ChupChups the best lolipop rom?
Thanks guys and thanks OP for creating this thread

[Q] [HELP] Unrooting LG G3 V10l

Hi guys i'm new to all this soo here is what i did.
I recently rooted my lg g3 V10l-EUR-XX and now i want to unroot it ... but the problem is that i found only the kdz file without the dll file ...
Can you please help me find it or if it's possible to downgrade it from v10l ? Sorry if i said something strange or impossible but i'm a complete newbie with the roots and stuff
If you download the LG PC Suite and click on "Restore Upgrade errors" it should reflash the current version, but i'm not sure as it might download the latest which is lollipop.
You could also flash your KDZ file using the LG Flash Tool. Without the need for a DLL file.

Because i have been reading a lot of post this week and everything messed up. That's why i didn't see that the LG Flash Tool doesn't require .dll file. I just brought my LG to stock and everything is fine ... Thank you for ''enlighting'' me ! :good:
In fact i have one more question ... probably a silly one but still. When the LG was still rooted i got an update for v20e i think but i didn't install it because i assumed that it will be bad and it will ''brick'' my phone ... and now when it's stock i don't have that update. What should i do or it is just a matter of time the update to show up ?

Since you device in now unrooted there will be no problem in updating. The update may show up some time, but you can always flash it if you want to.
NOTE: Lollipop CAN NOT be rooted.

LG G3 VS98535B (5.1.1) safe for update if rooted?

I have a lg g3 (verizon) with 5.0.1 rooted. Is it safe to update to 5.1.1? Has anyone tried? I want to but im afraid it'll break my root completely or my phone will brick. I can't lose my root because ill lose a lot of features. So if someone has tried or is willing to try that'd be awesome!

Well I recommend a clean TOT or KDZ flash. Hope this will fix your problem. Please do follow this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2785089 to flash TOT or KDZ then update via OTA. Thanks!
DO NOT TAKE THE UPDATE
...if you want root, etc. Currently there is no way to root 35b and no way to roll back to an earlier version. They patched some things up it seems.
Some brave souls took the update and are stuck now... http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...-5-1-1-ota-t3220693/post63200915#post63200915

I just update my rooted 5.0.1 VS985 to 5.1.1, gotta say , this new system is more battery save. i turn on the music and LG health and mobile data when i took exercise tonight for about 2 hours, and it's only cost 3% of the battery.and you know, lots of useless Verizon apps and others, but it's fine, i can disable it in app manager.
Yea I noticed that with this new update as well.
I'm little sour about being in un-rooted state.
But the battery life is noticeably better.
Maybe this option was there but I noticed new options under the developer setting where you can restrict amount of background apps running. I believe this helps out a lot as well.
Just an update on the update...
On vs985 it looks like someone was able to successfully TOT back from the 35B update, so people shouldn't be stuck anymore if they took the OTA(see post 84 here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...ing-takethe-vs98535b-5-1-1-ota-t3220693/page9). Root is still not available for people who took the 35B OTA yet, but there are 2 stock based rooted 35B ROMs available now: Jasmine and Skydragon. I think the only thing that isn't functional is advanced calling because we can only use the 24b modem with the 35b ROM due to the 12b bootloaders we have that allow us to have TWRP...or something like that. So it'll be a 35b ROM and all it's updated glory - running a 24b modem.
