[Q] amami with latest AICP nightly WiFi hotspot not working - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using the AICP rom for my amami.
Version: aicp_amami_kitkat-5.0-NIGHTLY-20140818 (latest)
And I'm having an issue with the portable wifi hotspot.
When I check the box next to "Portable WiFi Hotspot", the status underneath the title remains on "Turning hotspot on"..
It doesn't change, I don't see the hotspot icon show up in the statusbar.
My laptop seems to be able to see the WiFi network my phone creates, it prompts for the password, it connects, but no network access, no internet access.
My laptop is an HP Elitebook 840 G1, Windows 7 Pro.
It's as if the phone cannot make a connection between its mobile internet and the wifi hotspot it created.
Any ideas?
AICP crew? (I would have posted directly in the development thread of this ROM but I'm a new user to XDA and I'm not allowed to post in a dev thread.. >< )
thanks

Wildfire S and Ipad 1

ok so today I bought an HTC wildfire S with an internet dataplan.
Presently have an IPAD 1 without the 3G option so needed to find a mobile phone that can tether with it. They recommended me this mobile as they said it needs to have the wifi hotspot option.
Can someone link me to some info on what is needed to be installed and setup to make it work with my IPAD.
Thanks to all.
Hi,
Your phone already have all it needs for tethering. Just go to setings>Wireless&networks > portable wi-fi hotspot setings and set all parameters you like (SSID name, security type -wep, wap, wap2 ans set a password). After go back to wireless & networks and activate portable wi-fi hotspot (before that you have to activate Mobile network, otherwise will be a wi-fi network without internet connexion) and voila... you should see the new created wi-fi netword with the SSID you chose on your Ipad wi-fi manager.
Good luck
Thanks....
felt stupid after I switched on for the first time my mobile and found the Wifi hotspot in the menu thought it was an app I had to download....

[Q] Wifi issue

I just purchased a Nexus 7, 32 GB, 2013 edition. I am able to connect to wifi using the mobile hotspot feature on my phone. However, when I try connecting on my home wifi network, it tells me I'm connected but the wifi icon remains gray. No data connection. I checked the password to make sure it is correct. What else should I look for? Thanks!
Edit: Please ignore post. WiFi just came to life!

[Q] Wi-Fi Ad-Hoc

I cannot find a definitive answer: Does the 2013 N7 support connecting to Wi-Fi Ad-Hoc networks? I do not have a router, but I do have a wireless card in my PC which I am using to broadcast a Wi-Fi Ad-Hoc network. The N7 sees the network, but is unable to connect. I have tried disabling all security on the Ad-Hoc network (no password), but it still does not connect.
Has anyone figured out how to get this working?

also wondering if it supports it, I cant even see ad-hoc. Might be something that we can mod onto the stock rom
Not supported. There is an ancient bug report for that:
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=82
CM might include support:
http://www.thinktube.com/android-tech/46-android-wifi-ibss
Do you have a particular reason to use ad-hoc mode? The N7 can play access point just fine; your PC most likely as well.
There is this mod if you really need, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2163363, I personally think Google should add native support, is really not that hard, especially for Google
Sent from my Nexus 7 (2013) using XDA Premium [HD], for the man who wants to use the best tablet screen ever made.
Here it works.
My neighbour gave me access, he is 100 meters away. My laptop has a real teck card with outside antenna and I rebroadcast the signal to my nexus 7 with connectify.
It works....
My home internet went out a couple weeks back and I used ad-hoc on DJLamontagneIII's CM10.2 Flo Kangs rom. It was a build from a couple weeks ago, but I'm sure it's fine on the new one.
There were no tricks, ad-hoc just showed up under Wi-Fi connections and I connected.
Good luck.
I do wireless tether from my lg optimus g to my tablet just fine. If I recall WiFi tether creates it using ad hoc, not infrastructure (unless you have a rare phone that supports it). It works just fine.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
The Nexus 7 doesn't connect to adhoc connection unless. It connects only to infrustructure networks and this is with some other android devices. Rooted devices have a way of going around this though.
did anyone have a solution for the nexus 7 (2013)?. I cant find anything helpful at all regarding this.
I really need to connect to an ad-hoc connection
You need to be on window 7.
I think it s not working on xp.
what you are suggesting is just normal infrastructure hotspot.
I need to connect to an ad-hoc wifi connection , specifically to a symbian phone as a hotspot using Joikuspot.
anyone?

this thread seem like showing the solution for other tab, but not for nexus 7 (2013). can someone make it work for our tablet
I just flashed CM-FLO 4.3.1 and it doesn't work. The tablet is able to see the Ad-Hoc network I created with my Nokia E-72 (yes, I know it's old but it's my work phone).
It sees the network. I click on it and connect (network is open; no wep). It then says that it saved the connection but if I click on it again for it to connect it doesn't.
I've tested this with 2 different iPhone's and they are able to connect successfully and browse while connected to my Ad-Hoc. I verified connectivity because the mb up and down counter shows data traffic. I thought CyanogenMod would have it enabled by default. I guess not.

[Q] Lollipop Wifi Policy

Ive searched the web and read about countless issues about lollipop wifi. but im looking for something specific which i cannot find elsewhere:
on KitKat when connecting to a hotspot (or any wifi for that matter) it would instantly connect to wifi and switch to that connection, regardless if the connection gave internet access or not.
on LP it seems to remain connected to mobile data and wifi does not give an IP address until a hotspot is logged in (using the sign in to wifi notification)
the problem is it doesnt always show, is there a way to switch the wifi policy to not perform a soft handover? or does this need to be baked into a rom?
I have an app that auto-logs into wifi hotspots for me, but because it does not get an IP address and apps are not able to use that connection, it does not work as intended.
FYI i am NOT talking about wifi to mobile data handover, its the other way around

Unable to connect to HTC hotspot

Wifi only variant N7 Is not connecting to my HTC Desire X with Portable hotspots turned on with mobile data turned on (mobile data works on HTC and hotspot works with my Laptop)
Hotspot uses WPA2 encryption (have tried without)
Hotspot is sometimes shown in available Wifi connections (asks for password and saves credentials but does not connect or authenticate)
will add screenshots later...

Same issue with connectify on Windows 8.1 machine, I'm running a rooted stock rom (KK) with a load of Google junkware removed
Got my Home Wifi working again (was down for a week) but when trying to connect it shows "authentication problem" and then shows saved. this is on the lolipop 5.0.2 image from google as I thought It may be firmware related.
Tried removing WIFI authentication and still doesn't work (the wifi works with nearly every other device in the house.)
Any help ould be mega appreciated people
