SanDisk dual 16gb flash drive - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

Just picked one of these up and I gotta say it's one of the best things I've gotten for the android phone. Able to keep it with me and all my backups and such right in my pocket and not cluttering up my phone
.

If you care to check it out.

That is nice! Might have to grab me one. My 32 gig in the phone is just not cutting it anymore.

Sweet!

interesting device. I'm not not sold on the transferring file thing. Yes, it's true, but a USB cable does the same thing, LOL.
I do think it's a nice way to be able to store files that one may use on both devices a bit more easily, especially for those that don't like hooking up their phones to a PC (this would not be this crowd overall).

Wish that Samsung being the world leaders in memory production and distribution they are would be paving the way of much higher memory. You think they would.
I think even dual memory chips would be awesome. Nokia did it like 6 years ago even.

At first I thought 'I don't need this', then that turned into 'hey, I should get one of those things' so I ordered a 32gb one on Amazon for about $20 including shipping.

If your like me and can't stand having all your backups on your phone/sd card taking up alot of space. Then this is a good device to have as you can still have your backups or whatever you like with you at all times. For me there's been a time or two where my Rom was working just fine but after a few hours out of the house my phone would lock up and keep doing it. And my backups were at home. With this device that no longer is a problem.

Oh yeah. This is something I'll be picking up.

The Epic is my Only Computer

I am typing this on a laptop that I am getting ready to sell because I really do not use it much any more since I have bought my E4GT. These phones have come a long way since I last tried to do this on an HTC Thunderbolt. And with Sprint's unlimited data I found it was just as expensive to have an non data phone and a cable internet connection.
Just wondering how many of you out there are using your Epic 4G touch as your only computer and how you have it tweaked.
I have:
A 32GB SD Card
Installed Unnamed ROM
A six foot USB to Micro cable so I can more easily plug it in while I am at coffee shops.
A Karpus clamp stand
A Casemate case
Planning to get:
Full size USB adaptor
HDMI out adpator
Your nuts. Your going to regret it
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
There's no way I could use the E4GT like that. Yes, it has come a long way but to replace a laptop? Not for me at least. I also have the 32GB sd card and an MHL adapter. I could see it replacing a tablet but that's about it. At the same time I'm a college student so of course I have different look at it.
Hahahaha! Why? What would you miss?
I have to say, I was a network engineer in the late 90's with Cisco Systems and when I left that job I got rid of all computers, my tv, and only had a land line phone. I did that for two years and it was a good break.
I guess I should also say I am pretty much bored with the internet. I do not play games and I just use it for email and other communication. The voice recognition makes writing pretty smooth. I loved skype and google video chat and I have that on the phone.
I am also going to be traveling for an extended period with pretty much just a backpack so it lightens the load extremely well. Plus the camera on this thing is fun, check out my pics, I took all of these on the phone:
https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/113449280935158277907/albums/posts
All you need is a bluetooth mouse, keyboard and a monitor.
What about Odin? You may need it when you least expect it. I hardly ever use mine either but when my last one was broken, I had to rely on a friend when a ROM I tried went nuts

I flashed a bad kernel that hosed my recovery as well, I had to dust off the ol computer and do an odin.

Yeah, that is the one thing that gives me a little but of concern. But UnNamed ROM has been very solid but I am continuing to test so if I need I can go back to Stock if I start traveling. And if Sprint lets out an update without CIQ I will probably load that in case my hardware breaks and I need to take it into sprint.
But I do have the stock EG30 ROM with the one click installer on an USB stick which I can always use in case of an emergency.
I've used nothing but a phone or a tablet instead of a p.c. for well over a year, now.
To be honest, it's not really about the Android device that I'm on, it's more about the apps I have installed, and about the connection speed in which I can connect to the Internet:
My "substitute ET4G for computer" doesn't really seem too much different than my "substitute Evo3d for computer", or even my "substitute Evo4G for computer", as far as just getting things done...
(It's not really the device that matters, in that respect.)

I still have a computer, but my main device has been a mobile device for well over 2 years. Now, between my tablet and my phone, my computer is used almost solely to stream netflix to my tv and as a music server for my stereo rig. I will prolly keep it around for the foreseeable future, but it gets less and less use.
Are you hurting for money or something? Why would you sell your laptop? Doesn't make sense.

Well, I am not hurting for money but I do prefer a simpler life. I try to live on less than $1100 a month and add I said,I will be traveling light the next few months so getting rid of six pounds is huge. Plus the extra cash would pay for most of my train travel.
But, when I do find my next place to live I will probably build a low power desktop.

I have 2 laptops, and 2 desktops in my house that I rarely, if ever, touch.
Yet I spend a great deal of my free time on the internet, and doing "computer work".
Why is it so hard to believe that someone might want to get rid of something that they almost never use?

Google chrome preinstalled and default would be nice too.
I have the fastest AMD comp u can prettu much build. 6 cores overclocked to 4.2 Ghz i use it when i need to download some things that dont work over phone, craigs list and building simple websites some times. Also i use odin of course. Backing up picturea and music. Its atleast $1, 500 state of the art comp i build. Sadly i use it maybe 3x a month. If i had to choose only 1 device id use my phone. Phones are amazing now that i got this GSII
I traded in my beloved Dell XPS1710 for an Iconia Tab last April. Most of my "computer work" on my laptop was just surfing and email. I still have a home built desktop that I use for work (development) that just can't be done on a tab or phone.
Now I have the E4GT and I do fine with 95% of my needs. If I were not a developer, I probably wouldn't need the PC at all. But there are a few things that I just need the PC for, (DVD buring comes to mind).
I'm somewhere in between. Have my laptop with a 24" external monitor at the office and use my SGSII when I'm at home. If I need some serious power or screen real estate I just take the laptop home with me. Laptop for work, phone for entertainment ;-)

ordered nexus 7-- a100 for sale soon

ok I just ordered my nexus 7 16gb it will be 275 delivers with a 20$ Google play credit.
main reasons. ips display. and charges over usb those are my only gripes abou the a100 the display just wanst up to snuff compared to my original ipad. i bought ti see if i preferred android to apple and i stopped using my ipad completely.
is my a100 worth anything now-- rooted cwm unlooked loader. 32 gb card
Well with the Nexus 7 available for pre order I don't see our used A100's selling anywhere close to $200.

They can be had locally for 180-200 without an SD card or any extras, however I see that dropping VERY fast when the nexus 7 actually releases. If you're planning on selling it, put it up NOW, and ask for 200, and take the first offer that comes close, say 180.
Plus its starting to become known what issues they have, including faulty EMMC hardware that will brick itself for no real reason.
I've been considering selling mine, but we've been through alot together, not sure I want to let it go, and if I did, what I would replace it with...
I'm considering this too. The nexus 7 seems like a sweeter deal, having Jelly Bean, a better CPU and GPU, for $199. I would be happy to sell for about $150 and then just spend $50 for the nexus. Doesn't seem like a bad deal.
Our iconia doesn't have the great screen either, and I would like a better screen...
The only downside with the Nexus 7 is it doesn't have the external SD slot. You won't be able to store much on the 8GB internal storage. The OS itself with apps will take about 2GB leaving with 6GB. A decent game's data will take up 1GB to 2GB. The storage gets drained pretty quickly.
I pre-ordered the Nexus 7 as well but I'm not even going to consider selling my A100. The A100 is the tablet I use around the house or when I go outside, but with the Nexus 7, the A100 will just replace my desktop table's tablet which is my Viewsonic G Tablet. I'll probably just give the G Tablet to my parents or something

I was lurking the forums because I'm debating finding a cheap Iconia instead of getting a Nexus 7 (HDMI and expandable memory would be awesome for emulators and hd video), but I feel I should tell you that the Nexus 7 does NOT support storage devices OTG. The conclusion we came to on reddit is that FAT32 requires a license to Microsoft and they didn't want to pay it for whatever reason, I don't know if that's something you could work around or not with a good dev community. Same with MHL (which is unsupported out of the box), I've heard a decent dev community could get it working but after hearing the same about the Xperia Play, I'm not counting on it.

And why is otg limited to fat32? I don't recall ever saying fat32 either, but I could always be wrong about this, so don't take the wrong way, just wondering why it would require only fat32. And I'm sorry, but anything out of Reddit I take with a grain of salt.

Nexus 7 was looking pretty good compared to the A100. Lighter weight (important to me as an ebook reader), better display and longer battery life.
However, the lack of microSD slot is an issue because I like carrying around a lot of media and don't want some dongle hanging off the tablet. And I just bought a 27" monitor that has dual HDMI and it looks great connected to the A100, something else the Nexus can't do. (I also sometimes connect the A100 to the 50" flat screen via HDMI.)
Instead of paying $50 more for an extra 8gb of internal storage, I'd pay that to get my microSD slot and HDMI out back. I would also miss things like a real rotation lock button, but that one is not the deal-breaker the others are.
So no trade-in for me yet. And if I'm going to add a second tablet for other purposes, it would more likely just be a bigger one. Like an iPad.
Of course, if I didn't already own an A100, the Nexus 7 does look like the hottest deal on the market. This month.
That's pretty much where I stand now. The a100 has its strong points, the nexus 7 also has its strong points. If I didn't already have my a100 I would probably get the nexus. I was considering selling the a100 to maybe get a nexus, however I've decided its not worth it for the nexus. If I'm going to unload the a100 it'll be for a 10", maybe the a500 or something like that. If I come across a great deal and get the nexus I'll give the a100 to the wife lol. Same way my mom has a modded kindle fire.

It's been confirmed to work, only after rooting, and only for transferring files. So you can't watch videos stored on the card, nut you can move them and watch them from the internal storage. Not sure about music and photos.
The android community on Reddit is a little better than you're implying. A lot of xda members use it too, actually. It's the source for a lot of news and initial discussion of that news too. It's a pretty decent community if you can get past preconceived notions of Reddit as a whole.

FYI About A100 Prices Dropping
Just got a notice from eBay that A100 8G (on HC - NOT on ICS) is now available for $140+ free shipping. It is manufacturer refurbished.
I am tempted to buy for kids.
my acer a100 is being sold for $100 to my brother the day my nexus 7 arrives, I have the 16gb version on pre-order. the screen upgrade was the reason for the move also since the nexus is thinner I should be able to mount it in a dockable position in the car where the acer was mounted behind the stereo bezel.
As of now, I am likely to be moving on to the Nexus 7 as well.
I was holding out. My reason: The Nexus 7 does not have a microSD slot, and I really like using my 64 GB microSD cards in my devices.
This rationale kept me in the A100 camp-- until my A100 corrupted its 64 GB microsd card!
To me, selling stuff is a headache. So, I'll likely just give my A100 & accessories away. I don't know any forum members personally, and don't know if any are in my area. So, some kid who does something that shows he/she has a good head on their shoulders, or some older person who expresses a desire to stay up with the times will just get an A100 handed to them.
Should I leave this forum, thanks a lot to everyone here.

SD Card Thread

As you guys know (or if you don't, you will now) that many manufacturers are releasing phones in which do not have an external SD card and are banging us over by providing really low storage option inside of phones. What got me thinking is that there is a 64GB SD card on sale for 40 bucks at certain retailers and i wanted to buy one and then i came out with the thought that, almost every new phones coming out doesn't have a slot for the SD card. Sure the s3 does but i wont have the s3 forever. What would you guys do?
I know some say, turn to cloud but lets be realistic (at least here in the states). For starters, t mobile doesn't have the best coverage meaning internet is not available everywhere which means if you go visit grandma's farm, you are bored to death and forced to play with cows or ride horses (although riding horses should make you put your phone down lol). Lets say you have glorious verizon with its "great" LTE network and coverage. Well then you are stuck at 2GB or what ever plan you have. point is that you are stuck, so once over the threshold, you are going to get rocked with a fee.
Taking a more personal look, my SD card consists mostly of music (7GB, 800 songs and counting..I like my songs high quality ala 320kbps mp3/aac or 1000kbps Flac), I have 2 nandroids (1 for stock TW JB and the other for AOSP...you know these can make dents on the SD card, apps that require large amounts of data on the SD card.) so right off the bat, i dont need a 64 gb but i know in the future (give or take 2 years, ill HAVe to go that high.)
What are your thoughts? should i just get it anyway? what do you think can be done to get the attention of manufacturers about this issue? any other thoughts?
I'm pretty sure that Samsung has no plans to get rid of the sd card slot.

Being a professional photographer on the side... I will give you this advic - nothing less than a class 10 card, and nothing else besides sandisk or PNY
I've heard enough about how finicky the 64Gb cards can be that I decided to go for 32Gb. 32Gb is only $20. If $20 is still more than you want to spend, 16Gb is like, $10 or less. For $10, does it really matter if you're going to use it forever ? I mean, the phone likely cost many times that and has a limited lifespan of its own.
Just get whatever you're comfortable paying for.
I just bought a SanDisk 32G sd card, but it won't mount. When I try, it said blank sdcard or unsupported files. I tried formatting it but I get the same message. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am confused why the biggest concern for people when buying these things is simply cost. Sure you can pick up a 32 GB card for 10 bucks... But when it crashes on you a year from now, and the cheap ones typically do, don't come posting a thread here asking why it doesn't mount or why all of your stuff is mysteriously missing from your card. QUALITY people... Not quantity. Its like putting $30 tires on your Ferrari and wondering why it doesn't handle the way it is supposed to. I have had my PNY class 10 card for almost 2 years now with no issues, and yes it was a little more expensive but it is way more reliable than these cheap ass Kingston and no name class 2 or 4 cards that people throw into these things.
Both of the sandisks I have owned have crashed on me. A 16 and 8 GB. Never again will I cheap out on SD cards. Its not worth losing 2 years or a year's worth of data.
I've been buying 32s and compatible 64s every chance I get.
SD slots will be with us for the long haul.

I totally disagree! I don't think Nexus phones set the standard. I do understand that Google would like to gently nudge us all into using the cloud, but I will go kicking and screaming all the way. I hope they come to their senses and support choice like they should.
Get it.
I think you should get it. You might need it down the road. And even if you don't need it right away, it's still be handy to have. I have a 16GB card now, but I'll get a 32 or higher later on.
And you're right, these lack of SD slots are crazy.

I think the bigger question is whether we should start training ourselves to use the cloud rather than relying on our sd cards. But I still say the answer is no. Samsung is a big enough player that they can dictate design rather than be dictated to. I don't think they'll abandon these removable parts anytime soon. Maybe in 5 years, Samsung will have their own cloud offering and will force us to use it in lieu of local storage. MAYBE.

I think we really lack the infrastructure to go cloud-only for things like music and movies. The cell towers aren't everywhere - many people can't stream everything even if they want to. People still want to watch movies or listen to music on an airplane without having to pay (or compete for bandwidth if the air carrier is nice enough to let people have at it for free).
I think there are many valid situations when the cloud is simply not an option.

I got the same card, inserted it, mounts fine, copied a bunch of music to it, works great. However, it doesn't "click" when you press it in, and won't eject! Other than that, works fine. Is there some trick I don't know about? Any advice? I don't want to damage it or my phone in the process of removing it. so far, I've just not worried about it, but at some point I'll want to eject it...

It sounds like an issue with your phone. Do you have the problem with other cards as well? The mechanism to eject its part of the phone hardware and really not related to the card. My card ejects fine. I just have to push it in and it will then be ejected...

Please just make a nexus with great battery and sd slot

Maybe its just me but the only things I want now in a phone are a huge battery (ala razr maxxx), expandable memory (16GB with no sd slot is a joke in 2012 with so much hd video and mp3s being twice the size they used to be), and some up to date google software. I dont need a quad core phone or more than 2GB of ram or 1080p resolution on anything smaller than a tablet. My galaxy nexus is still plenty powerful enough to do what I need it to now if only it could last all day and let me throw on 20GB of music.
I would love to see a version of the S4 or something that has no touch wiz and gets updates right from google.
We gotta dreamer over here.

Battery technology is the same as its been for almost a decade. All they do is add mah. That's why batteries universally suck.
Sd is the past. It's slower than nand and just adds a fairly useless port to the phone. Hate to break the to you but neither of your requests are happening.

SD card slot isn't gonna happen, because Google wants you to use their online content services rather than fill an SD card with your own stuff. That's why they're selling the N4 for so cheap (in some countries...).

thats not the reason.......
they said it is because it can be confusing to the every day user....where are pictures being saved? where are documents going? and i guess i can see that. i just wish they would let us choose to be "confused" or not.
but FWIW, i am completely content with my 32GB gnex...and would actually be ok with 16gb version as well as i have about 21GB free space. as long as i have unlimited data, i am OK with 16GB on a phone. its a little different on a tablt though, as i like watching videos on them more than i do the phone.
as for the big battery, its coming. just wait. although current phones are starting to be pretty good on battery. the Gnex is pretty bad, but even the S3 almost doubles our battery life.
I've been under the impression a large part of it is the costs of paying MS licensing fees for SD tech.
I've got unlimited data so with the exception if the few times I have no signal, the cloud works just fine for me.

I completely agree on this post. I just got two nexi and sold them both on eBay because I couldn't put my 16GB card in that has 14GB of music on it.

Sure, there are also issues with data being split between internal and external storage, but if you think the Play Store is not a factor at all you are delusional. Why do you think Google only offers the N4 with the rather pathetic storage options of 8 and 16 GB? They should have gone with at least 16/32, but they didn't, and I'm very certain that wasn't just a matter of cost.
Honestly my biggest issue isnt that I dont have storage, but my carrier is giving me less data to use. Something has to give one way or another. Either we need to store things on our phone (movies music tv) or we can stream it. We cant have none the storage and none the data from the carriers the equation simply doesnt work. Personally I would rather stream all my content except most content streaming source's quality isnt good enough. If I want to listen to music from grooveshark I dont want some half assed mp3 rip; I want flac.
Naturally battery life is going to suck, although ive been able to make it bearable with the battery upgrade, a decent rom ( i run Xenon) and franco/lean kernel. Sadly this only makes it bearable though and thats spending how much time and effort right out of the box to make it that? total BS.

+1 SD card
I would just like an SD card so that when I'm flashing ROMs and totally bork my Nexus up, I can recover from the external SD card. The other day during a flash something went wrong and erased my backup images and backup ROM zips. I couldn't connect via ADB to push ROMs or use ODIN recovery. An SD card would've allowed me to recover in a few minutes vs a few hours. This especially makes sense, since a lot of developers use the Nexus devices. It would allow them to recover more easily or boot test ROMs from an external SD card.

Developers and users who know how their device was meant to be recovered dont use Odin. They use fastboot.
People have to realize, for all that the device is, it is a Google device first than it is a Sammy device.
One more thing, if you couldn't use adb while in recovery, you didn't do it right. 100% sure.
To recover a Nexus, there's no need, AT ALL, for a external sdcard.

Ive been wondering about batteries for a while, seems like theyre long over do for a serious update.
I don't understand why people feel the need to carry 20gb of music with them everywhere they go. You obviously won't even listen to anywhere near that amount of music in a day unless you keep it on the whole day, highly doubting that. Not trying to be rude but can someone who keeps that much music on their phone try to show me their point of view?

People are hoarders when it comes to data. That's the short answer.

SD cards... old technology man. Get up to date. Is cloud storage now. And huge data with prepaid how this phone is to be used since it is unlocked. The best carrier with the best deal. Use the cloud top steam your stuff. Only thing that needs to be fixed is Google drive to stream movies. At that, if you root and install flash you can use desktop site and stream your movies.
I would love to have an SD card. The cloud sucks. When u don't have fast internet in the area ur in, when trying to access pictures or videos from the cloud. Forget about it. SD cards are way better then the cloud imo. I can't store all my games data in the cloud. I have like 10 games I bought but I can't install them because they are about 2gbs a piece. Plus I still have some music, HD movies and photos. So if Google isn't going to give us an SD card. Which I know they won't. At least give us an option for a 64gb, 32gb version of the gsm galaxy nexus. I can live with 32 or 64gbs of internal memory. Then I won't need an SD card slot.

Mac & Android

So android and mac don't play well together. Apple doesn't allow mtp to work on mac and google have not updated their android file transfer app in ages and it's extremely buggy. What apps and methods you guys use to make your life easier? I have been using an app called handshaker, it's a decent app but still not as simple and solid as plugging your phone on windows.
Install windows using boot camp. Problem solved. Best of both worlds then.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
I dont want to install windows as i have a macbook air with 128 gb ssd and dont want to waste 30 gigs on windows since i dont really need windows at all.
the main problem is neither apple nor google is concerned with this matter which kind of sucks. i know there's probably a very less number of people using androids and macs together but i'd still love to see some solid solution.
Yea! I've been living with this problem too! Handshaker is nice. But transfer speeds are damn slow.
Well after 20 years of using Macintosh and about 5 of using android, the only way to get things working properly to install windows. Either using boot camp or parallel desktop emulator. Those are the only two fool proof solutions sadly, like it or not.
I agree, android transfer is completely crap for Mac. Having to disconnect and reconnect all the time in order to get one out of three times it works.
It used to work fine on Sony Z1 using 5.1 but marshmallow seems to be the issue to me.

This is sad. I gave up my Mac 2 years ago after trying to get a replacement screen for a 2010 Mac book pro and they told me $400. Bought a touchscreen Dell on sale for same price, windows 10 free upgrade, better processor and RAM, SSD, etc... Apple has always made a sleek looking, good product, but their lack of support without shelling or a ton of cash is why i left their desktop/laptop products. Android is why I left their phone products. They will probably never make anything to work with an Android device unless you pay them. Strictly apples to apples (pun intended).
I do hope you find a solution, cause I was thinking about replacing my wife's I Mac with a newer one, but if I can't use it ever, I'm going to find another win 10 machine.

I just use "File Manager" from cheetah mobile, downloaded from play store. Turn on wifi transfer, type the IP it shows you into your browser or ftp client, transfer files at 10-100x the speed of mtp.
Of course, both devices need to be on the same wifi, which isnt a problem in most cases.
Im sure some other file managers out there have the same function.

yes exactly i too had a 2010 macbook pro and motherboard died. apple customer service asked to pay 36k inr ($500) usd to get the motherboard replaced. he told me apple doesnt allow them to repair motherboards and they have to replace them. i ended up getting a macbook air but even i've decided when my current mac dies i'll switch over to windows.

That is outrageous! And the unibody design was so easy to work on, seriously, 9 screws and you could do anything your self. The price I was quoted was for just the screen, the installation I was going to do myself. Unfortunately, at the time I was looking, there really weren't better prices floating around. I was finally lucky enough to find a decent priced screen just this year, resurrected my MBP and daughter is using for school.
One day people are finally going to realize everything they (apple) make is from China, costs them nothing to manufacture, then they markup like 400%. People complaining about the EPI-pen lady, but she just took a look at a business model and decided to copy it... I'm personally very happy to give my money to a company like one plus where they obviously markup the price, but just don't rip you off straight out the gate, and then make you pay out the nose if something goes wrong.
Haven't had a single issue with my old OnePlus one, which is also under the control of my daughter, and my three is phenomenal as well. Samsung is also another company I'll never give money to in the phone department. My brand new note 3 bezel broke after I put it in one of the "authorized" cases they had. Asked them to fix, and they tried to charge me a ton of money. But the Samsung TVs, wow, no one can compare, so they've got me hooked there.
After writing all this I guess I'm just becoming some sort of hippie or something. Just tired of the greedy companies taking advantage...

To each their own. Ive never had a single problem transferring files this way. On the other hand Ive had problems with plugging it in an using mtp, either with drivers or just how ridiculously slow it is.
The wifi method, theres no drivers involved, is about as fast as you can get regarding transfer speed, and I dont even have to get off my chair to find a cable.
