[Q] Which version do i have? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i bought my m8 some time ago on a contract from T-mobile (NL) and i'm runing software version 1.57.114.2. BUT i'm not simlocked, i used a sim card from another country and it worked (vodafone), now my real question is if i can use RUU to install 2.22.401.4? or do i have to stick to the t-mobile versions? ... 1.57.531.7 is the latest for tmo i think

As I remember there are no RUUs jet. As FW is related to MID/CID you would have to use a x.xx.114. FW , as x.xx.401 and x.xx.531. correspond to different MID/CID.

T-MOB003 is the CID, the German T-Mobile CID is different. Does the US version have the EPSM, as the German doesn't as well?!
That's why I changed my CID to HTC_102 and installed the 2.22.401.4 FW of the WWE variant of the M8

You should be flashing RUU through fastboot. Its not an executable for windows

Historically, its always been a Windows executable. The fastboot method is new.

Stock HTC Desire

How do I unroot, restore default ROM, restore default hboot and go back to S-ON. Basically 100% stock since I need to send my phone back to the provider due to hardware issues. Many thanks.

Actually, you need to download the latest RUU for YOUR Desire. Did you make a note of it before flashing a new ROM?
You can find everything in this thread

Yes it does

Hi
When I tried H3G uk its saying ur phone ready to use but screen not working when i tried WWE(world wide english), it stated the customer id prob, install correct RUU.
You need a gold card for a non-3 UK RUU - sounds ike you have an SLCD screen and flashed an AMOLED RUU, hence the black screen
Out of interest, if you run available 3uk ruu and check for updates, won't it update it for you? Mine was 3uk before root and custom ROM, so might need this info at some point. Thanks

[Q] O2 Firmware

Hi guys,
Just got mine from O2.
Checked the firmware number and it's 1.12.206.17
That doesn't seem to correlate to any on this forum.
Does anyone know what equivalent this would be in stock HTC terms?

O2 phones have the older firmware as they have a different CID so aren't updated by HTC but by O2. There is no way at the moment to get any other CID on your phone. To get the 1.54.401.5 update on your phone you will have to wait for O2 and even then it won't be 100% the same as the stock WWE firmware. I presume you have the firmware where you cant get it into extreme power saving mode?

1.54.401.5 that is the firmware for all unlocked, sim free and unbranded phones. So as much as yeah it is getting updated, its not the same rom as what all the unbranded phones are getting. Networks will update to the newest base, which is all fine and dandy, but it takes time and is never released as quick as the stock HTC WWE firmware

While you are correct Unbranded phones do get the Updates well before branded. But at this time I am running the latest version and not sure why.
Note 1.54 = The latest version .401 = unbranded .206 = O2
My Rom and yours is the same nothing is different at al they both same base 1.54 What I dont understand is why I got the update and other are not.
O2 Germany is with the same software 1.12.206.17. No update too.

Move away from carrier specific firmware/rom

I should know this with all the rooting I've done over the years, but my memory is failing me.
I have a UK Vodafone M9 (firmware id 161?) If I want to move to a non carrier firmware like 401 (is this generic EU/developer?) Do I have to wait for S-Off..to change sid/mid..or is there a method to do this by simply using RUU (with/without unlocked bootloader and new recovery)
Apologies for my ignorance.

I believe S-OFF is a must to make permanent changes to the data partitions. After S-OFF you need to change your CID to 11111111 so that you can flash any Firmware for the M9.
I'm not sure if you need S-OFF to change your CID, you can try it and see.

S-On and SuperCID... what in the how?

Hello there, guys.
I am getting into this whole "Android" thing and realizing it is fun and sometimes complex. A co-worker bought an unlocked HTC One M9 at the beginning of the year, and it came with Android 5.1.1 - the firmware was 2.11.531.19, which belongs to T-Mobile. There was no way to update it OTA, but she was happy so that was it.
Now, having finally been able to update an AT&T Note 5 withough being in the US, I thought the process would be somewhat similar with the M9. Knowing it was a T-Mobile device - the 531 in the firmware is T-Mobile's SKU - I downloaded the RUU from HTC with version 3.39.531.41
No go. Not only did it fail, it left the device in a somewhat bricked state. I tried downloading different RUU's, tried getting the rom.zip in a SD card, but it all failed. Then, just for kicks, I downloaded the RUU for the Unlocked/Developer version, which is 3.35.617.31 BAM! It worked without a problem.
Being curious, I used ADB to look what the CID/MID values were for the device, and found something funny. The MID is 0PJA11000, which I believe belongs to Dev/Unlocked/AT&T, but the CID is set to 11111111 (SuperCID). Whut!
I also see the product is "htc_himaulatt", which I guess means this was an AT&T device... that had a T-Mobile SKU installed? The device is S-ON, by the way.
What does this mean for future updates? Should I/she continue to use the RUU for the Unlocked/Developer devices? Should I set her device to S-OFF? Also, she received an OTA notification for version 4.x.xxx.xx that incloudes Nougat, but upon download it said that the devices software had been modified and it couldn't install that update.
Thanks in advance for any guidance!

Htc has never provided and is never going to provide RUUs for their non-US devices. They even stopped providing US RUUs since the U11. If you own a non-US HTC device or a US model that is at least as young as the U11 then you rely on the files that get leaked on websites like ir-file or easy-firmware. The file that is linked above is a re-upload of such a leaked RUU since ir-file and easy-firmware require you to pay per download.

Every HTC flagship reaches its EOL state two years after its launch. For the M9, this date was in spring 2017. In other words, unless you plan to flash an Oreo-based custom rom you won't see Android 8 on your M9.

Aternatively, you can use the RUU that got linked above. It's the latest unbranded European RUU. It doesn't matter which SKU you use. The differences are almost non-existent.
(Sidenote: There is no WWE SKU. SKU 401 equals the unbranded European version, 708 the unbranded Asian/Hongkong version, 709 the unbranded Asian/Taiwanese version, 710 the unbranded Australian version and 617 the unbranded US American version.)

I will try that RUU linked above....
The emergency Red/Orange Triangle that is linked to E911 in settings....says it cannot be removed and I believe it is so USA citizens can get Red, Amber and Yellow terrorist threat alerts!!
Even when rooted I can't find it to remove and it seems to have cropped up in Marshmallow and Nougat HTC OS's
Wait, so you don't own a European M9? If that's the case and the phone is S-ON then you won't be able to use the 401 RUU. And in case it's an American CDMA variant, you won't be able to use that RUU without damaging the phone, either, even if the phone is S-OFF.
Please take a look at the ReadMe thread. It contains all information you'll need for finding the correct RUU for your phone.
I've never heard of such an app. I've never owned a US M9, either, though.

Thanks for your concern Flippy, no chill, I've got an International M9, (At leased that's whay the guy in China told me)
I've Unlocked Bootloader, S-Off (using Sunshine) and it was rooted until yesterday when I upgraded the Firmware to the Latest 4.30.617.12 and installed the RUU_HIMA_UL_N70_SENSE80_ATT_MR_NA_Gen_Unlock_4.30.617.12 exe.
Now the phone has unrooted itself and got rid of TWRP, Software Status saying Official (Fabulous)
So yep, I am aware though that, that is a USA RUU that's why I wanted the European one, however that linked one above is an earlier version....so still not the latest but it might have OTA if its official...?
It is the latest build. The numbering always differs between the SKUs.
And RUUs overwrite every partition on your phone. That's why you lost root and TWRP and the phones status got reset to official by flashing the US RUU.

And what I also need to do is downgrade my firmware or at least change it to the international version but I can't do that because I am getting a weird error....10 but bot the 10 mentioned in sneakyghosts firmware thread.
It's saying something about wrong device or hardware..
But I think that's just because I've got US firmware in it
As said before, read the ReadMe thread. You can't flash RUUs via TWRP and you can't unzip them the normal way since they're encrypted. All you're describing is expected behavior. The file is working fine. I've already used it several times.
And error 10 indicates that you didn't change your MID. A step by step guide for converting your phone can be found in the ReadMe thread, as well.

Hi Yep Flippy, thanks 10 RU_MODELID_FAIL.
Yeah, I have to change my MID using fastboot oem writemid and I think I have to change it to 0PJA10000 but I'm not entirely sure. At the moment the MID is 0PJA11000 (Dev Edition) for whatever reason I think the International version is 0PJA10000.

Thank you for contacting HTC Email support department.
Sadly we do not have an end user RUU's, if you need a software reflash you can do that through our repair center, you can double check the phone shipping country by replying back with the imei number or serial number and we will be able to provide more accurate information.

Hey thanks Shivadow, without your lovely RUU, I would not have been able to complete my mission. I am aware that you went out of your way to find that link so my most sincere gratitude.
