[Q] Wireless charging sound notigfication - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I read a lot of threads about removing it but nothing works... I found the sound file (.ogg) for charging error and replaced it by an ogg with blank sound, it works, but every time I put my lg g3 on its wireless charger, I got this sound (in maximum volume!! Even if I have the volume low). I can't ear that anymor! It's too annoying...
I looked for the file WirelessChargingStarted.ogg in the system/media/sound/ui dir, but there is not, so the sound is the standard notification sound... I've created it with this name, with blank sound, but it doesn"t work, it always play main notification sound...
Please heeeeelp!
Thanks

You may have renamed your replacement file wrong so its still referring to that default sound. Here's a blank :01 I use. Try putting it in /system/media/ui

I did some testing on this too and found the same results. I'm pretty sore that is not the file that controls this sound. I have a Verizon LG G3.
Seems obvious that it should be that file, but it's not.
I'll be following this thread closely.

Figure out which file is the charging sound (for USB charging its LG_Cable_Connect.ogg) and rename the file I posted to it and paste into folder. Any other changes you made you should revert to the stock files and names.

That's exactly what I've done... But still this sound (notification one, same as all other notifications but in full volume).
I've saw in the settings.db file the name of the notification sound (WirelessChargingStarted.ogg). It didn't exists. So I created one with blank sound (with soundforge), I saved it as ogg file and named it WirelessChargingStarted.ogg, I put it in the dirctory UI (see path in my 1st post). But it dosn't changed anything...

Actually, I just remembered that I checked all of the sounds in that directory and none of them were the sound it makes when wireless charging starts.
You'd think it'd be obvious that WirelessChargingStarted.ogg is the file that controls it, but if you play that sound, it's not the sound the phone makes when wireless charging starts.
So where is the sound the phone makes then?

The sound it plays is the notification sound.
The file is the good one because in the database settings.db, the filename is this one and the path is the correct one... Usualy when the phone doesn't find the sound file, it plays the notification one...

I just figured out that it's playing crystal.ogg in system/ui/notifications
If I rename that file, nothing plays when I connect to Qi.
So there's our answer. Don't know what other system notifications might be affected as well. Crystal.ogg is not set as my default notification tone.

Oh! Goog news, I thought it was playing the selected notification sound! I try it and come back to tell you.

Ok, I made changes and... It works!
So this is the solution for the LG G3, thanks!

Great. Seems pretty bizzare that they'd use a random sound in the notifications folder rather than the one that says wirelesschargingstarted.ogg
If you want to use crystal.ogg for something else, just move it into sdcard\notifications and that should make it available as a custom notification sound.

I already tried to copy in the notification, but it seems the system only accepts .mp3 files in this directory, as the Crystal sound does not appear in the notifications choice...

I haven't seen anyone mention this so, if you are rooted and install G3 Tweakbox you can remove the wireless charging notification altogether. Simple one check box selection and you're done.

Which option exactly are you taking about? Whichever one it is, it doesn't work to stop the sound, at least not on my Verizon phone.

One note, you may need to reboot the phone for the setting to take effect. I believe I ran into this myself. Thus select the option, reboot and test.

Hi, which wireless charger are you using? I have a Nexus 4 wireless charger, don't know whether it would fit with LG G3.

Phone won't ring

Hi all.
I have an MDA c.III with WM6.
Everything seems to work fine, except the phone does not ring when called.
I can hear audio (tried mp3 and FM radio), I hear ther reminders from calendar and tasks, I also hear the SMS notification.
However, when someone calls me, the MDA vibrates (if set to do so) but does not ring.
Upon choosing the ring, if i "click" the test button the ring sounds.
When called, it doesn't.
I have tried quite a lot with settings (there are several points for this in the software) to setup the rings; however, it simply doesn't make a sound upon incoming calls.
Would anyone have any suggestion (or simply the solution) for this problem?
Gyc
Had a similar problem and found that other installed software seemed to effect it. Similar tale with sms notification but a soft reset seemed to resolve the issue but it's not an ideal solution.
Most likely this is a file association problem. If you've installed another media player and associated WAV, MP3, WMA, etc. then the phone will not ring. The association needs to remain with the Windows Mobile Media Player.
I've tried to verify this, but where do I tind the file associations in WM6?

Is the phone volume (as opposed to the pda sound volume) slider turned up ?
Phone volume is ok (there are 2 sliders, one for PDA, one for phone).
I checked file associations with Total Commander.
Media files are correctly associated with windows media player; when "clicked" upon WMP starts and plays the files, including the ring tones.
However, when called the phone still does not ring...
What the heck...

Puzzling. I guess you've checked all the obvious things - ring volume, settings in the phone options, sound & notification options, etc. Have you also tested if the phone will vibrate if you turn audio off, or does it still go directly to VM? Has it ever rang? Do you have any other phone / dialer software running, a recent change? Could be a ROM or [gasp] self-inflicted issue. If all else fails - hard reset or switch ROMs.

No other phone software.
No recent changes that I have performed, apart from the normal menu items personalization, chosing ring tones, audio volume and adding a few mp3's.

I'd really need to avoid that because I use the phone for work and 1) do not have the time right now to reisntall all the applications 2) cannot risk to brick the phone and be left "hanging" without.

The only other suggestion I might offer is to ensure that your ringtones are good. Try using the stock ringtones that came with the Windows Mobile, if you aren't already. You can find them in these forums if you need them. Maybe also try different types, all small files, such as WAV, WMA, MP3 and see if you can make ANY of them work.
All media files work when played with WMP.
Also, while configuring the ringtones, hitting the "test" button ringtons play ok.
That's precisely the odd thing.
Everything works fine (calendar alerts, alarm, sms slerts, fm radio, mp3's, etc.) except that when called the phone does not ring!
So far it is the ONLY thing that does not work in my phone!
It's sooo frustrating...

Check settings by starting the phone (green phone button) > Menu > Options > Services tab > select Call Forwarding > click Get Settings.
Ensure you don't have the "Forward all incoming phone calls" box unchecked. Also check the third drop down list that indicates how many seconds before forwarding to voice mail. Set it to 20 or 30 seconds.
Should look something like the attached. Except your voicemail service number will be different depending upon your location. If this doesn't work, then I'm tapped of ideas - sorry.
Thanks for the suggestion, but didn't work.
I suppose I'm only left with hard reset...
But I'd really hate to do it...
.wav and .mp3 will play but not .wma
I'm having this same problem too. I think I caused the problem when I installed MortPlayer and associated file extensions with Mort. Even with uninstalling Mort, .wma files won't play. What's interesting is .wav files and .mp3 WILL play as the ringtone. I've checked file associations and .wma = Media Player but the .wav extension is somehow not listed (using Schaaps Advanced Config to see file extensions.) Thoughts on this very frustrating problem are appreciated!
I'm sorry if I'm not very encouraging, but I simply gave up.
I use my phnoe mostly for work, so I cannot afford to have it inoperative as I try other roms or windows installations.
In some way, I have come around the problem by using a bluetooth earpiece that rings. It's not very loud, but it helps.
Hello gyc,
I also had that problem several times and in my case it was always related to 3rd party MP3-Software. Have a look at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Artemis_Problems and try, if fixing the entries at the registry (e.g. using total commander ce) helps ...

[Q] Is anyone else experiencing difficulty with Navigation volume?

So, I've made sure that ringer and media volume are at their highest, and I've noticed that it is kind of difficult to hear Navigation. Has anyone else dealt with this? I haven't had any of the "speakerphone or call quality issues", just noticed this the other day while traveling. If others have experienced it, do you have a work-around?
I think that generally all of the sounds on the Gnex are very low. I personally haven't used navigation ( i don't drive ) but all their ring tones notifications etc are very low.
One solution for the notifications i used was to 1) use your own audio files or 2) manually edit the audio file with a music editing program to have a higher master volume level.
That is where you may be able to get some success if you can locate where the audio files are for the navigation app you could try to manually increase their volume and replace them.

The audio files are downloaded on the fly, so trying to edit them wouldn't work too well. Look for volume+ in the market.

I guess that I will give it a shot. Ever since the update (and even before it) I really had no issue with media volume, speakerphone or call volume. Thanks for the advice.

Work around(s) for enabling top speaker for ringtones / notifications?

I as well as many other previous Nexus 6p owners have been noticing that ringtones / notifications only come out of the bottom speaker of the Pixel 2 XL. The irony of this is that any app besides the "Settings" app has all sound coming out of both speakers. Is there a program / workaround anyone knows of? I don't care if I have to root my phone; I want to use my dual front facing speakers!
Thanks,
~Mike
Too bad this apparently is not considered a bug, its just how its suposed to work. In my opinion its pretty dumb not to allow both speakers on incoming calls/notifications from Google.
I'm getting sounds out of both speakers when my phone rings. Not sure if this happened before I updated to 8.1, but I don't think so. Tested it with more than one ringtone, stock and custom. Now, my problem is the screen won't come on when the phone rings. I hope an update to the phone app fixes this soon.
Yes my also only the bottom one firing. Any solution?
Bumping this up, any solution?
Can someone please make a mod to enable dual speakers for ringtones?
Currently.. i am studying about sound mod on pixel 2 oreo 8.1.
My main objective is to fix the crackling issue.. btw.. i will look into this one too

I use a Tasker profile to get around this issue. Basically, I monitor the status of calls, and when the phone is ringing, I play my ringtone as media. Then as soon as the call is answered or ignored (offhook or idle), the exit task stops the media. I just set my actual ringtone in settings to "none". Other than that, it behaves exactly like a ringtone should. My task also matches the media volume to the ringtone volume while ringing, then restores the previous media volume setting. That way, if your phone is on vibrate, it won't still ring out loud. I can do a detailed write up on how I did it if anyone needs it.

Like I said in other posts, sound does come out of both speakers with calls and notifications. When you're choosing a sound in settings, it does indeed only come out of the bottom speaker. I can't believe I'm the only one who has sounds coming out of both speakers when a call comes in. I've tested it with multiple sounds, too.

Yes. It only comes out of the bottom speaker when I'm picking the sound. When someone calls, I hear it from both speakers. I've tried this with both custom and system sounds.

ccoulterjg1 - please provide detailed instructions on how to get tasker profile to resolve the issue of the ring volume using the ring speaker configuration instead of the media speaker configuration, which should resolve the issue, as media volume is quite loud and ring volume is not (I need to be able to hear my phone ring when I am sleeping, and on-call).

Notification sounds for apps not staying set

One thing I have noticed on the 3 so far is, for many of my apps, the notification sound I set for it never plays. I always get the default phone notification sound for those apps.
When I go in the app to check or change it, its still on the the notification sound I picked in the first place.
Why are certain apps, which allow you to pick a different sound, only playing default sound, while others that I changed are playing that changed sound? For instance, Ive been using TweetCaster for over 5 years now. Always had the same notification tone set for it and it played perfectly on every phone before the P3XL. The file is still in the Audio file for Notifications as it should it. It plays the sound when I click it. But when an update for TC comes through, it just plays the default notification sound in the phone setting.
EDIT: After much searching, I finally found a thread on Reddit that explained how to do it. It's a way deeper dive than just the usual pool I was used to...

Android 10 notification sound issue

Hello everyone.
Got a custom notification sound, yet sometimes it plays half of it or less, just stops in a middle of it
Tried different sounds, same thing happens every time, stock ones plays fine though
All custom sounds located at default folder "notifications"
Anybody had this issue? Is there a fix?
Really anoying, had to downgrade back to 9
Tried updating through OTA and Sideload, tried factory reset too
I forget what the maximum size of the sound file is, but I had your problem with one that was too big. Check the size of the stock sounds and if yours is bigger, use a sound editor to change the sampling rate so it is about the same size as the stock ones.

The size of my sound is just 6Kb, stock is 20Kb, so it's not the reason, i guess
I noticed that stock sounds have silence at the end, something like half a second, mine's dont, file quits when music stops, maybe that's the point
I'll try adding extra seconds of silence to my sounds, hope this works
Thanks anyway!)
