Help with recen call list - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Under phone menu there is a call log but I can't figure out how to show the most recent calls first. It seems that the phone somehow prioritizes some calls at the top and you have to scroll down (in my case several pages) to find the calls that start with "today" and then go backwards in time.
Any way to change the sort so the call log is almost most recent first? How to do this seems to have escaped me? Thanks and apologize in advance if it's something blindingly obvious that I missed.

I have the 851 variant and my call log is sorted with the most recent first. I checked the menu and settings and do not see anything setting to alter or rearrange the call log order at all, outside of clearing the whole list.
So I'm not sure if it's a variant specific issue or setting.
Sorry I couldn't help any further, but I wanted to post so you wouldn't feel left in the wind and would know that perhaps it might be specific to your phone.

Thanks for the reply. Interesting to note it's not all variants - I'll keep searching

I would like to know about this too, it's very annoying

Stumbled upon the answer. I was looking through the pages and pages of "new" calls when I realized that these were all call log records that came over from my iPhone. I used the LG PC suite to transfer my texts, calls, etc. to the new phone and it seems that all the call records go in as "new" as sit above today or any recent calls. As I didn't want to lose my recent calls, I went through the call log call by call and deleted every call categorized as "new" and now it's working perfectly - call logs are properly displayed by date in descending order of most recent first.
I discovered this will on hold with LG support via "chat". They were more than useless. The rep said she didn't even have an G3 at her location to try and understand the problem and gave me the usual 'factory reset' to fix it. I told here there was zero percent chance I'd do a factory reset and have to spend hours to get my phone back to my setup without any assurance it would even work (which it wouldn't have if I'd done the PC Suite transfer again) and told her she should, in no way, categorize my call as "solved or finished" based on suggesting a factory reset. My expectation for tech support was near zero and LG didn't disappoint. The support was worthless. Thank goodness for XDA.

Is it too easy to dial a contact???

Hi folks,
I have found it from time to time too easy to dial a contact resulting in an accidental dial to someone. This is usually due to the fact that I thought I was selecting a contact when tapping on it rather than immediately dialling the number. Perhaps I am too new to the TP2 and Windows Mobile phoning, but it seems to me that it would be useful to have a popup yes/no window to confirm that you want to dial out.
It is a bit like the delete in the email section which deletes without confirmation. I accidentally selected a few emails and then accidentally tapped delete and then saw half my email disappear.. No big deal. But no confirmation box or undo facility that I could see.
Perhaps there is a way of altering the behaviour for the above...???
Any thoughts appreciated....
Sam
Same here. On the missed calls screen I always tap a contact to go to their contact card, but instead I obviously call them immediately.
For me it is just the change from going from Symbian to WM...
I'll get used to it eventually
I think that an extra "Are you sure you wanted to do what you did?" screen would get REALLY irritating very quickly

True.
However the number of times I have accidental touched a contact name (even during call) does make you wonder...
I ended up installing Pocket Shield to prevent it and handle the much to sensitive power button.

So you have PocketShield really running correctly?
I tried, but it's a weird program - installation is correct, changing parameters etc. is no problem, but when it should cick in it gives me errors.
Hi,
The PocketShield Program is an interesting program and potentially solves issues that I have not come across yet probably cos I am new to WM6.1. However I can see the touch screen being a problem, so good find.
HOWEVER.... I do not think this solves my underlying question and that is that once you tap on the contact be it accidental or not it will dial and I think it would be good to have the option of having a "confirm" screen. This is also true with "delete" for the email inbox. I have yet again accidentally deleted an email and even could not get it out of the "Deleted" folder.
Sam
Same problem for me.
I found that the contact sorted top on TouchFlo favourites page would get dialled accidentally. I solved this by setting the default number for a contact to be a dummy invalid number. So now at least no call is made when the contact is dialled by accident. This approach may work elsewhere. Not ideal but...

Visual Voicemail Problems

Hi all!
This is my 1st Evo post (maybe 1st post period) and Im having trouble with my visual voicemail. I am on the latest firmware, the phone is brand new (got it 2 days ago).
When I open the visual voicemail app, I press menu and click undelivered messages. Sitting in this folder is "[email protected]". Ive tried resending it, no luck. I cant delete it either. I get an error message stating "there is a delay in setting up your voicemail. Your message will be sent as soon as this step is complete." Also, when I hold the 1 key down, it doesnt take me to VM, it just rings and I get an error message. I have to dial my own number to get to my voice messages. What am I doing wrong?
Problem 1: No visual voicemail
Problem 2: Holding 1 key doesnt take me to VM
Thanks in advance for anyones help, it is surely appreciated!
Chris
I forgot to mention, I have full service strength and I can use the internet and get email over the 3g/4g connection.
I called customer service, and they told me to call back on a different line. Wish I had one........
It sounds like there is an issue regarding your profile. You could try updating your profile.
Settings - System Updates - Update Profile
Also update the PRL while you're there.
If that doesn't work and you don't have another phone to call Sprint with, then take it into a store and use their phones to call support, or maybe they can help you there.
Also a suggestion, don't post replies to your topic just edit your existing one. I almost skipped the post because I saw 3 replies, assuming the question was answered.

Will do, headed to a sprint store now.
Thanks for the forum ettiquite info too
here is how your fix this problem...
I just had this and nothing I did or looked up help. got off of the line with Sprint and apparently there is sometimes a "Ghost" number set up on your phone during initiation and if your ported # does not get embedded in the software properly, you are hosed.
here is how you fix it:
- from dialer, dial ##643750#
- a menu will pop up, hit edit mode
- there will be 2 options -- can't remember the names. the top one will be what should be your phone # and the bottom one is a general access # that is *not* your phone #
- on the top entry, click edit and replace the # with your own phone #
- click the menu button on the phone and initiate the change
After I did this, my many test voicemails arrived after about 10 seconds.
Hope this helps --- I was not a member of this forum but registered just to log this fix as it is very frustrating. I hope this saves someone some time and frustration!
1. Sign up for google voice,
2. setup conditional call forwarding on your voicemail
3. enjoy transcribed text and better recording quality

Go to settings in google voice then voice settings you should see your mobile number and a link to enable google voicemail on this phone.
Basically you're going to dial *28XXXXXXXXXX which is your phone number.

I had this exact problem when I ported my old number to my Evo. I went to a Sprint store and they called CS, and I watched the keystrokes the rep did so I'd know what he did. I think the code for this is different for everybody. I just realized today that when CS did this for me, the rep dialed ##xxxxxx# where xxxxxx was actually my MSL code (just looked it up today and it looked familiar, now I know why).
So enter your own MSL and you should get what you need.

[Q] Threaded call logs

I apologize in advance if someone has asked/worked on this before, but I couldn't find anything specific, except someone asking the same question in the AT&T GS2 forum.
So something that bothers me is when I go through the call logs, it lists each and every call as a different entry, even if it is to the same contact. I came to Android from a Nokia E71x, and in that, the call log showed one entry for multiple calls to a contact. Just that when you selected the entry, it showed you multiple entries in that for incoming/outgoing/different times. I hope I didn't jumble up my problem too much. Basically, I want to know if a) there is a ROM which does this (I don't think there is) or b) if there is an app that does this.
Thanks!

Voicemail Notification

So lately, I've been amazed at the number of calls that I've gotten that haven't left voicemail. I just got four today. So I decided to check my voicemail, and sure enough, I have a bunch of messages. I'm not sure why, but suddenly my voicemail notification icon is not displaying in the notification area. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, is there a fix?

My wife and I both have the Note 4 on VZW and we have this same issue. I'll get calls all week and think nobody left a message. Then I'll go log in and find I have like 10 waiting. I am pretty sure we used to get notifications, but not for the past 2-3 months at least.
I feel like someone must have an idea what the issue is. I really don't want to go to the store to wait in line for someone to tell me I am wrong.

My wife also has the Note 4, and her notifications come through just fine. I wonder if it has to do with that visual voicemail abomination that they force on our phones. I've gotten in the habit of checking my voice mail manually, whenever I have a missed call. I shouldn't have to do that.

I had the same issue. *611 customer service eventually ended up with a voice mail customer service rep. It seems there was a "Update" pushed by Verizon that conflicts with Galaxy Device voicemail notifications. She "adjusted" the settings on her end and had me reboot, then test called me, Voila, the little tape recorder pops up and my notifications now show an unanswered voicemail. I asked if there was a way for a consumer to reset from their end, she said no, a Verizon Network adjustment is necessary.
I just called and had the same thing done. I have the developer edition note 4 but that doesn't matter according to verizon tech support. notifications work now.
the verizon support specialist told me that verizon had put out an update to those users who got phones after the beginning of the year to 'opt' in to premium voicemail. apparently this messes up the users account voicemail protocol to where they don't receive notifications if they opt out of visual voicemail and just rely on basic 'old school' voice mail. the tech had to 'block' visual voicemail features and configure my account for use with JUST basic old school voicemail. hope this helps.
You're think that they could push another update that would fix it, without everyone who has the problem having to call in and take up customer service time.
I had to call them too.

Most likely enough people "opt in" for $3.99 (or whatever it actually is) a month to make it all worth while...
hey, so I hate googling for solutions and not getting answers so i signed up to help solve this problem
open the phone menu
click the three dots on the upper right and hit settings
select 'call'
under where it says 'voice mail service' near the bottom, add an alert sound for voice mails and select vibrate (if you want to)
next, open the general phone settings (looks like a gear) and go to 'sound and notifications'
go to 'application notifications'
scroll all the way down and select 'voicemail'
click 'set as a priority' so it says 'turn on'
I'm sorry I can't post photos along with it, but the xda forums don't allow new posters to add pictures to their posts until they've posted ten things. (understandable but v frustrating)
The verizon rep (who was very kind and personable) walked me through these steps.
I hope this helps everybody in this thread and all the people hunting from google as well! :]

I'm sorry, I should have been more specific with that.
On the bottom right of the customizable menu right at the bottom of your home screen, click the dot button that says 'Apps' on it. I'm not sure how many pages of apps you have, but it will list all your apps on the phone. It's called 'Settings' and the icon for it is a silver/white gear with a blue circle in the middle of it. Does that help?
Yup. So settings. I go in to it through the notification area, but it's the same thing.
I don't have any menu items that are titled "Application Notifications". Perhaps because I am still on 4.4.4?
THANK YOU!!

Thank you so much for taking the time to post this solution! Worked for me!
I'm also on 4.4.4 and I'm quite lost on that second part of the instructions. Could someone please explain?
Thank you.
I'm stuck, too. I don't have Sound and Notifications. Just Sound. On 4.4.4 as well.
Did you sign up for visual vm?
Enable voicemail notification on Samsung Galaxy 6
If you aren't receiving voicemail notifications, this is a system error. You have to reset your voicemail. Goto: Settings, Applications, Application Manager. You may have to swipe the screen to the left twice so that it says ALL at the top. Then scroll down to voicemail. Hit Force Stop, then ok, scroll down and hit Clear Data and Clear. I just got off the phone with tech and this is exactly what I did and now my voicemail notification is back.

Question OP 9pro on Verizon - caller ID

My caller ID is not working for any calls not on my contact list. This was not the case on the Pixel 3XL I came from. I have added a secondary caller ID app called Hiya which shows me there IS caller information coming across, but the Google dialer is only showing a phone number.
Anyone else with this? Is it normal on OP? Is there a fix?

You can.
Guess I should have mentioned I have the settings turned on.
I've reset connections, reset network settings, even wiped the phone a few times installing with zero backups. Hasn't changed anything.
While I'm moderately happy with the phone, this is still an issue.
Anyone have suggestions?
You need to call Verizon and tell them your issue.. they need to fix it on their end
I have a pretty hard time believing this is on the Verizon end when different apps will get the information.
The caller information is making it TO the phone, as evident in different apps, but the Google dialer is not broadcasting the info.
After spending countless hours with Verizon just to get this phone working on their network, I probably shouldn't doubt you. It's just a rabbit hole I don't think I can go down...trying to get to a customer support reps who actually knows how to fix things and not read candid answers off a checklist in front of them is pretty rough.

I had to do the same thing with Verizon first I couldn't receive messages and I had to get them to make the phone cdma-less on their end .. then after I got the messages to work my caller id didn't work ...I was lucky and got someone who actually knew what they were talking about and the caller id issue was fixed after the call

Definitely an issue on VZW side. I've seen reports about this around. I'm on T-Mobile, so it's pretty much enabled by default across all the phones my family has... Including an iPhone.
