A while back (like 2 years ago) someone discovered that if you call into T-Mobile and simply ask to have your 1GB of data upgraded to 3GB of data at no extra charge, they would do it on the spot. Sure enough, after word got out on XDA about it, many of us called in and successfully had them upgrade us to 3GB per line at no additional charge (would normally be another $10/month per line).
Last year we changed our plan to become contract free. However, I was unaware that this initiated the $10/month per line for the 3GB of data so I got rid of the extra data after a couple of months passed with neither of us using more than about .5GB each. Unfortunately, my fiance and I are now using more of our data and keep hitting our cap with about 2-3 days left in the month. So I was thinking about calling and trying to get the 3GB free again.
Before I do this I wanted to see if anyone else had any recent experience with this or discovered another secret or promotion that help to get more data without paying more. Yes, I know I'm being cheap but I don't want to pay another $20/month when we both barely use over 1GB each as it is and they don't offer a 1.5GB or 2GB option.
How many lines are in your account?

I too would like to know if this is possible. I have 2 lines my wife has the unlimited data with 5gb of mobile hotspot for $30 and I have the 1gb data for $0. I just went over

If you have 4 lines or more you can get 2.5 gb of days for free till 2016. It's the new 10 gigs if data for $100.

Sorry for the delayed response to the posts. I have 2 lines on the account. So that 4 line option won't work for us, unfortunately.

Anyone know of a good data usage app or widget. Wanna kinda keep track with this new data cap that is being forced on us.

I use NetCounter, great app, and works for me. Don't know if any app works better, but it does the job. Also what cap are you talking about, the 5 gb or 200 mb one? I heard the 200 mb cap does not work with the g2.
There's also 3G Watchdog... but I recently discovered NetCounter and I love it.
+1 for the netcounter, strongly recommend it
If you don't want an additional app use the web2go app and my activity and that will do it.

Network Monitor tracks data on network and wifi.
Breaks it down by day, week, and month.
It has a nice charting system and you can set alerts.
Its free!

November 14th T-Mobile is introducing a new "unlimited" data plan that does not have the speed limits in place. The rep told me it is $5 or $10 more a month then the current unlimited data plan. i don't recall exactly because I was listening more to having to get off the Unlimited loyalty plan to the $99 family plan. But that was fine by me too, because I don't get my 18% discount on the loyalty plan. So after all is said and done, I will actually be paying less and I wont have to worry about exceeding the 5GB limit

Hey all. I've been using Straight Talk with an ATT SIM but I'm tired of getting throttled for no reason. I want to switch to a plan with ATT. I would use roughly 2-4 GB a month and prefer unlimited talk and text. Any ideas on a good plan or deal?

although you wont be throttled in speeds, you'll be throttled in the wallet as a major carrier is usually going to cost double or more.
currently, an AT&T individual plan with 450 minutes, 3gb of data and unlimited texting is $90 before tax
a mobile share plan with unlimited minutes, unlimited texting and 4gb of data is $110 before tax
i have at&t. just want you to understand the cost difference

Re: Best ATT plan?
I appreciate the quick response. Yeah, I know the price is gonna suck but honestly I have a tough time trusting ST anymore. They literally told me my plan was throttled because I use FB and Twitter. When I was on Sprint I used maybe 5gb a month. Came to ST and started off using around 2 but for throttled. They have me down to 1GB a month and I STILL get throttled. I don't stream anything and only use a few mb a day. They have a new "department" now for high data use subscribers. Its a voice recording telling you how to minimize your data use. That's it. My plan renewed and it went right back to 200k down. I'm ready to pay more so I can actually use my data for more then just a quick web browse. The price is great but they're so unclear about their policies and its impossible to find someone there who actually knows what they are talking about. Pay for what you get I guess.

And don't forget, it's $10 for every Gb you go over your data plan

As mentioned before there are several options with AT&T, but they come with a price tag. If you want unlimited talk and text and a limited data then mobile share is the way to go. If you have family, or family members who you trust will pay their share of the bill, you can add lines and spread out the costs SOME. There is no right or wrong choice...it is dependent upon you and what you want and/or need. Keep in mind that you can tie into AT&T wireless areas as part of the plans so you can help limit some data usage.
I just went on the t-mobile website just to take a look to see if there were any changes to offered plans to save me some money. Still have that migration fee to get a cheaper plan, but I was able to upgrade my data plan from 2GB/$20 to 4GB per month (or 4GB + 500MB, not sure) and it only costs $15 per month on sale right now. They also have discounts on higher data pans like 6GB 8GB 10GB...
Go check it out! You might save some money and get more data! I didn't have to change my plan or anything else.
4gb for 20$? Im using Unlimited Nationwide 4G for 20 every mounth downloaded over 60gb

Sucks they don't have the 500 minute plan...like I I don't need unlimited so why should I have to pay the extra $10. Thankfully I am already on that plan. Carriers know that people don't use as much mediums with so many other options to communicate so they are forcing it down our throats. Really thinking of going back to Virgin Mobile and dealing with their stupidly slow speeds...too bad I am on contract for another year or so

dang i just checked it, it's 30 dollars :/ oh well.
I got 2gb data high speed with unlimited for $10 but they can throttle me (hasn't been a problem).
It may be because our family has been with T-Mobile for more than ten years.

How strange...I attached some screenshots. I was on 2GB Unlimited for $20 before. Also I'm on my family's classic 1000 minutes talk plan...with unlimited text added on for the family, plus my data for just my line. There's the offer right there, $15 off each tier.
Edit: just noticed this includes mobile hotspot...and 500MB is included for no charge? Damn this seems like too good a deal.

I don't have much information to say but I believe the $15/mo reduction is only for classic/grandfathered plans. In other words, Bridge to value. Since I don't have enough information from that image, that is the only thing I can think of. Basically, it gives you early access to EIP for phones or how value plans work (bring your own device or financed for 20 months I think?) for upgrades but you do not have to switch to the value plan.
Just to clarify

I think tethering is included in the package. You can add tethering to the unlimited something you couldn't before. However that is limited

T Mobile changed the old Value Plan and now offer the Simple Plan. Instead of the old plan of 2gb of data it's 2.5 gb of data and you get the Hotspot feature for free. I just switched my Value Plan over to the new plan without having to extend my contract or pay to switch my two lines over to the new plan. I like that the Hotspot is now included for free.
I asked about the Jump program and the way it was explained you have to purchase a new phone with an EIP and pay $10 a month which also includes insurance (slightly cheaper than the current insurance premium). Then you can choose to upgrade twice a year but each time you upgrade you have to make the down payment on the new device and if your old device passes their inspection they wipe out the remaining balance of your EIP plan and start a new one for the new device. The only benefit I see is cheaper insurance. I would rather buy mine outright and sell the old.

Somehow when I was switching plans a month or two ago, I got 4.5GB with hotspot included for $20. What's the price of this 2.5 + HS?
Interestingly, when I check my account status on the phone using the My Account app, I see no limit listed for my high speed data allotment. My other 4 lines all have their correct high speed data allotments listed. I used to be on an old, truly unlimited high speed plan for $20. I gave that up for HS w/o having to hack or spoof. It might not have provisioned down to 4.5GB but added HS.

That is honest to goodness no cap, download 200GB and T-Mo won't put you on a list type of no cap?

Hmm. I believe I'm on 4.5 + hotspot. I'm at well over 1.5GB via hotspot now, 8 days into my cycle. I switched to this plan about 2 months ago.
I've got 3 lines, unlimited everything, one line has jump, the other two have the premium insurance. I think I'm paying about $20/month on my Note 3. My Bill varies a little month to month for some reason by a few bucks. I pay $240/month for the three lines.
I'm curious what others are paying. Thanks!
I have a single line with Jump program, premium insurance and unlimited everything for $109 a month. Just picked up this phone two days ago and love it!

I guess I'm not doing too bad then.
$30/month for 5GB high speed, unlimited 2G data, unlimited texts, and 100 minutes voice prepaid. It's the best deal out there for almost-exclusively-data users like me. I never even get close to 100 minutes and really don't text. Hangouts and email work well over the 5GB of data plus redditing, ROM downloading, etc. I've never gone over the 5GB limit either.
1 line: $45/month for 1000 minutes (free nights/weekends/mobile to mobile), unlimited text, 4.5 gigabytes high-speed data, wifi hotspot.
This is on a small business value plan I started on a couple years ago.
$70/mo for unlimited everything (including 4G LTE) $10/mo for insurance $29/mo for the Note 3 ($0 down) so $109/mo but once i sell my VZW S4 I'll be paying off the Note 3 in full. So $80/mo at that point.
$205/mo total for five lines. 3000 shared minutes, unlimited text, unlimited data on two lines, 5GB on the rest, $21/mo EIP plan for my Note 3.

I had that plan up until a few weeks ago when I found out I got scammed and my Note 3 was blocked by T-Mobile. (sniff sniff)
Now I have the Straight Talk AT&T plan at about $50 per month for 2.5 GB of data. I don't even know how many minutes I have cause I never bothered to look.
I have 5 lines with unlimited talk & text. 4 of them have 2.5gb data and one has unlimited. 3 lines w/ JUMP! and 1 with PHP. Total bill after taxes and fees = $300.

As for that plan, it's been around for a while (it was originally called the Walmart Plan when I signed up), I don't think it's going anywhere anytime soon.

Yeah, I switched to it about a year ago, when you could only get it via Walmart or online via self-signup (which was a slightly botched process). I'm just afraid that if too many "data hogs" hop on for cheap data that t-mobile's bean counters will remove or jackup the $30 plan, since there's no contract to stop 'em.
