[Q] HTC One M8 WiFi problem - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
My HTC One M8 has a problem with WiFi:
It does not scan the neighbour access points ("Scan" shows nothing, but my other Android phones show more than 20 nearby routers) and it shows "Not in range" for nearby wireless modems I've previously added.
I should add every new WiFi router manually!
I've tested every advice in the Internet forums (disabling "WiFi power saving mode", changing WiFi channels on WiFi router, etc)
Right now I use an Android app called "Wifi Fixer" to temporarily overcome this problem.
My phone is fully updated (4.4.2, Software version: 1.54.401.10)
Does anyone know whether it's a known bug that will be solved in a future update or should I use CyanogenMod to overcome it?
Anyone else with this problem ?!
Thanks

VPN issue

Hello everyone! getting directly into the problem which is VPN i had this issue on other devices too like HTC One X, HTC Butterfly S and now the One M8 here what its like:
-Setup vpn account (PPTP or IPSEC)
-Connect to VPN
-VPN connects successfully.
- it will take less than one minute for it to stop connectivity and you will end up with an idle connection but it wont drop. nothing is loading and vpn data shows slow transfer.
searching for this issue i see other devices which are running 4.3 and 4.4 having this issue too. some claimed its fixed in android L but when i switched to GPE 5.0.1 to try it its still there.
tried several vpn servers and OPENvpn too all suffer from there same issue. the only VPN app worked was Private Tunnel i guess but its not free and it limits you to their VPN service and you wont be able to use the app to connect to other VPN servers from other providers....
if you dont know anything about the fix please just report if you device can connect and USE VPN without any problem and report along with : - S-ON or S-OFF
- LOCKED-UNLOCKED
- STOCK or CUSTOM ROM
Thanks! :good:

HTC one M9 tethering issue .. big one

Device: HTC on M9 Android 5.1 rooted and this issue tested with more than one custom rom + stock one. (Current ROM > LeeDroid )
device version: International, without locks to my service provider.
Main issue: Wi-Fi tethering hot-spot erratic behavior (Simply shuts down when i am in my car.. this was monitored with tablet and wi-fi monitoring software )
After reading and testing 3+ weeks , using 4 usb wi-fi PC dongles, 2 mini routers and every possible solution from forums and sites..... decided to ask for help here.
The story begins 4 weeks ago when i bought HTC one M9.
In my car i have Windows 7 64 PC (Car pc).
The Car Pc was connected to my previous phone (Galaxy S2 Android 4.2.?) with bluetooth dongle for conversations, and PC was using wi-fi tethering provided by the phone.
With Galaxy S2 there was no problems at all.
With HTC one.. no success.. 3 weeks of installing different android roms, changing PC Wi-Fi adapters, installing and uninstalling drivers, connecting routers and so on.
- My home PC (win 7 64) connects to hot-spot without problems.
- My laptop (win XP 32) connects to hot-spot without problems. ( Probably have to try this in car ? )
- My Tablet connects when i am home, but cannot connect when i am in a car.
- My Car PC doesn't connect. Only a few times the PC was able to see the network, but network disappeared after attempt to connect.
- Restarting does not help. Installing and uninstalling drivers does not help. Changing network settings... no success.
Even with external mini router the network simply disappears when the phone is inside the car.
- All Windows network settings changed one by one.. many times without success.
- Many Android APP's tested without success. (Some of them are doing nothing , some of them like WiFi Tether Router are more advanced but again no success)
- There is no problem with bluetooth connection and bluetooth PAN tethering .
- The phone icon for WI-FI tethering is looking ON .. even when network is not available.
- 3G Network is connected and was approved that is OK by successful bluetooth tethering test .
- The problem is the same with Stock, LeeDroid and Android Revolution roms.
- The problem persists regardless of bluetooth state On or Off.
- Default hotspot names and passwords and so on .. doesn't work.
It seems that i have to log something and provide logs to experts here. But i don't know what to log and how to log it.
I know that "Keep it simple and short" rule of this forums is violated by this post - but i am trying to avoid advises to restart the phone and the PC.
Please help... or delete this post.
Solved.. amazingly
Thanks to this forum - the problem was solved.
Why thanks to this forum ?? Because after writting all this things i was able to read and analyze it again, like if the post was not mine.
Following the logic.. the problem was hidden in car itself. By disconnecting the car battery i found that everything is working fine.
Hmmmm, what in my car can cause this?.. and i remembered that the security system of the car have one special item ... microwave proximity sensor
invisibeam-field-disturbance-sensor by Viper alarm systems
This thing caused interference ... but the problem is : - Why the HTC phone was not tested with signals like this ?. ...Samsung S2 have no problems with it.
The funny part is that i have another sensor .. not branded like this one and there is no problem with hotspot now.
(cannot post links sorry)
It is nice idea to call HTC and Viper and ask them some questions about frequency bands usage and interferences.. .. but i am far far away from USA and Korea .. and there is nothing more i can do, than changing this stupid sensor.
Maybe some day i will chahge the HTC one M9 phone, because he is uncapable of handling interferences of this magnitude ........ but not yet... not yet

SM-G960W (Canadian Device TELUS) Wifi issues

Greetings,
Recently upgraded from Galaxy S7 Edge to the Galaxy S9 (standard). The phone so far is fantastic in virtually every way. I am still running all stock (fully updated) software and I have not yet unlocked the bootloader or rooted my device. The only issue I seem to be having that may or may not be environmental is what can best be described as wifi drop outs or hanging.
While the phone doesn't appear to disconnect from the wifi network but it will occasionally hang and websites and net based apps will be unable to load content for a few seconds. Often when the hang occurs the Wifi notification Icon will show a solid white upstream arrow and a blank downstream arrow with no blinking activity during the hang. After a few seconds things seem to return to normal. I have had this occur on both my 2.4 and 5.0ghz AC networks. I have tried rebooting the router and resetting network settings on my device. The issue does not occur on any other wireless devices connected to the router (23 total). Router is a Linksys WRT32X running DD-WRT w/ OpenVPN running ExpressVPN for all except 4 clients (Rokus) that do not use the VPN but rather a split tunneled to be direct with using ExpressVPN Smart DNS for media.
Unfortunately I have been unable to test my phone on a different router to see if I can recreate the issue. This is more so to see if anyone else has heard anything about this kind of issue with the s9 or if my case is isolated and thus potentially a defective wifi unit on my SoC.
Thanks in advance for any information or advice offered.
EDIT: I also noticed that occasionally during the wifi hang/interruption the Wifi notification icon will have an exclamation (!) mark. This does not always occur but sometimes and other times it is the aforementioned upstream arrow going solid while with no activity from downstream arrow.
Turn the VPNs off and see if the connection fixes itself, then you can narrow it down somewhat
Need a direct connection to troubleshoot network problems

WiFi drops on Galaxy S20+ 5G (stock ROM)

Hi there.
I hope, I am in the right forum ...
Since a few days I have issues with my WiFi connections. I tried to
reboot
shutdown and restart
reset network settings
used different WiFis (but from the same router)
Other WiFi devices in my network have no issues. What I was changing in the last days was, that I added a repeater to the mesh WiFi. But even when I am not connected to the repeater but directly to my router (which is AVM FritzBox 6591 cable - Germany), it drops the connection. To be more precise, it says "Connected without internet".
Any ideas maybe...?
Thanks in advance!
As solution to this strange behaviour I found that connection added with QR code works fine. The QR code scanned network has the exact same settings than the manually added, but stays connected stable *hummm
maybe this can help someone later..
thanks anyway
