I have a Verizon G3 rooted using ioroot. I've noticed that if I try downloading a file with a special character like ☆, é or even *, when the save window pops up the symbol gets turned to junk (amusingly, containing special characters). Everything displays correctly when viewing webpages, and I have other files already on my SD card with special characters and they work/display properly. It's just when trying to download something that it gets messed up. If I try copying the symbol directly from the page and pasting it into the downloaded file's name, it shows up as larger text in the rename box and then basically corrupts the file. If I copy what should be the same symbol from one of my pre-existing files, it'll work just fine. I've tried using several browsers (chrome, firefox, dolphin, AOSP) and they all do it. I'm rather at a loss as to what the issue is, and the only thing I can think of is the root but I don't see why that'd cause it.

I have a wav file that I made a long time ago to use as my text tone from my first tilt. I got it on my tilt 2 and put it in windows on the phone and it works initially. but everytime I reset my phone the file stops working. so I go to the folder where its at and when i try to play it i get this message
"cannot play the file because the specified network protocol is not supported. If you entered a URL to play the file, try a different protocol (such as HTTP). If you clicked a link to play the file, the link might not be valid"
I have no idea why its doing this. when i copied the file from my sd card to the device I didn't paste a shortcut, so there shouldn't be a "link"
and what kind of special protocol could be affecting a 2 second wav file?
Nevermind. Put the file in application data - sounds and that took care of it. Just in case anyone else comes across my problem
Hi all!
I have a motorola Defy running on stock rom. Did an update through motorola software update to 2.51.1 Retail en CEE.
After the update it kept all my settings, apps, etc.
One thing though, did not test Motorola Phone Portal before the update, but it seems to work kinda strange for me (I am connecting through wifi on 192.168.1.144:8080):
1. If I click a recent photo in the home tab, a 404 page not found error appears. Can view photos only from photos tab.
2. Clicking on File Manager tab does not load at all. Have to enter the manager by clicking the link in the Photos tab (manager). I am using IE8.
3. I can`t rename, or paste any file in https://192.168.1.114:8085/webfolder. I can only copy! If I try to rename I get a no access error or something like that.
4. After refreshing the webfolder from explorer, all my folders look like they have appended my google username (ex: dcim becomes dcimusername, audio becomes audiousername). If I double click a folder I get a folder not found error.
Is this phone portal the same to you, or something is wrong with my phone?
PS: another strange thing: I created a games folder on my homescreen. Every time I restart the phone, the folder renames to default name, folder. I have to rename it to games everytime.
Managed to figure it out. I disabled Secure login, and it works flawless now!
The only downside is that it`s not asking for a password anymore. No worry though, I use it only on my private network!
I used to be able to but haven't done so since March/April on account of the summer holidays but with school having now started again I need to download pdfs.
Basically I tried yesterday to download a pdf, the first red flag was that it wouldn't let me change the destination to the external storage, the external sd card wasn't showing as if there wasn't one in. I thought little of this thinking I'll just move it later.
Once downloaded however it won't move (using ES file explorer) and won't open, Adobe says its not a valid PDF document. I can download and open etc. on my phone (2011 Note). And I also managed to download the file on my computer and transfer it via USB, this also works no problem, I can open it and move it around etc. on the tablet.
I've tried a few files multiple times and the same thing is happening so I don't think its a case of the download being incomplete.
I'm using Dolphin and the firmware updated a few days ago.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
@dtst Have you tried deleting and downloading adobe again?
If its not a personal pdf document I will happily try download it from my tablet to test it. I kniw for certain I can download files no problem as I downloaded loads of PDF files a few weeks back.
Yeah uninstalling/reinstalling Adobe didn't work.
Thanks for the offer unfortunately its on the colleges moodle site so I can't link it.
I've had issues with pdfs that had copy protection on them, I couldn't save them or move them
Should have tried this earlier tbh but it seems to be a problem with Dolphin.
I have successfully downloaded the same pdf using Chrome, Opera and the stock browser just annoying since Dolphin is my preferred browser and the others don't give the option to change destination on a file by file basis (afaik).
Hopefully this will be fixed in an update by Dolphin but for now its just a minor inconvenience.
Also ES file explorer seems to have a problem, when I try moving the newly download file it fails, again the stock file explorer is moving the files fine. Hopefully this too will be fixed soon.
I'm just glad I can download files to my tablet in class now without having to wait to use my laptop and transferring later.
Hello, hoping I could get some help if possible. I have searched through the forums for similar issues, but have been unable to find anything that resembles this rather unique problem.
I have a rather odd issue with my HTC One M8 regarding the Firefox app. Generally, when I download files using the app they will show up in my Gallery "Downloads" album. Yesterday, I opened my Downloads album and saw all of my files vanish. I use TWRP as a recovery and have a recent backup, which I assumed would allow me to revert and retrieve my lost files. This does work, however within 5-10sec the files vanish again. Within that short time, I can open images and view them normally.
I have attempted to recover the files using both TWRP's file browser, as well as a pull with the ADB command line. The most I have been able to recover is thumbnails of the files, which are present both when pulling files and through TWRP's file browser. I have tried to locate the files on the device, however they seem non-existent on either the SD card or internal storage. Some of the files have shown up in HTC Sync Manager also, though the majority are missing. I'm not really sure where to go from here.
Thank you.
I've been searching up and down the web for an answer to my issue, so I'll cut right to the chase. I've had pictures locked on my old LG G3 for a while, and I decided to get them off of there to transfer to my current device. I went into internal storage, and dumped them all onto an SD card. I didn't realize at the time, but there were many pictures on there that were locked via the "lock files" option in the gallery. The files have a ".dm" file extension. I know that this specific extension can only be read by LG, but when I try to open the files on the phone itself, a black screen with a caution symbol appears. They don't show up in the gallery, and can only be accessed via the file manager. I've tried almost everything, and nothing has helped. At this point, I'm willing to try anything. Thanks in advance!

Have you tried on windows to rename the file extensions to .jpeg and delete .dm
