I have a wav file that I made a long time ago to use as my text tone from my first tilt. I got it on my tilt 2 and put it in windows on the phone and it works initially. but everytime I reset my phone the file stops working. so I go to the folder where its at and when i try to play it i get this message
"cannot play the file because the specified network protocol is not supported. If you entered a URL to play the file, try a different protocol (such as HTTP). If you clicked a link to play the file, the link might not be valid"
I have no idea why its doing this. when i copied the file from my sd card to the device I didn't paste a shortcut, so there shouldn't be a "link"
and what kind of special protocol could be affecting a 2 second wav file?
Nevermind. Put the file in application data - sounds and that took care of it. Just in case anyone else comes across my problem

Hey guys. I'm having this issue where, when I try and open a ZIP file on my 8525 w/ AT&T WM6, it says: "The central directory was not found in the archive (or you were trying to open a disk other than the last disk of a multi-disk archive)."
Downloading the file to my PC works just fine, so I've been transfering them either through USB or swapping the memory card in and out for now, but that gets annoying after a while.
It seems to have only started recently...but I fiddle with so many of the little .cab apps on here that I couldn't think of which one may have caused an issue with the ZIP program.
Anybody have any ideas as to how this could have started? Or how to fix it?

i have the same issue.
I have had similar issues, only way to get around it was to use OPERA 8.65 and download the file, once downloaded in opera the .zip file opened fine.
I assume it may be some sort of incompatibility with pocket i.e.
cj
It shouldn't have anything to do with PIE because the file downloads fine. In fact, the same download opens fine on my desktop PC. Its only on my pocket PC that I get the error.
Somehow my ZIP program is not recognizing all the ZIPs in a certain directory. When i ask it to search for all ZIPs, it comes back with a small portion of those on my PDA.
Something is blocking the application from seeing all the ZIPs and opening them.
What program are you using to open them? Try something like Total Commander.
It really doesn't matter what program you use to open them (Total Commander, Windows Explorer, ZIP, etc.). When that program calls up the ZIP application, the error message appears.

Ditto. I tried Total Commander and it's the same story. I recently had to hard reset a couple of times (due to a bit of over zealous registry editing), and even on a fresh reboot of WM6 it still couldn't open but a small percentage of the zips I have on the storage card, so I no longer believe that it was .cab that did it to me. Maybe just an inherent design flaw? I dunno. I've tried the standard ZIP program that comes on the phone, Total Commander, Pocket RAR...nothing seems to work. It really sucks because I browse the site alot while I'm at work, but I have to wait until I get home to try anything new out because I can't open 90% of ZIP files on the phone. It kinda' sucks.
doesn't resco have a zip utility?
sorry i double posted that last entry.
same issue
I have had the same issue with mine. I thought I was going crazy! If I put the zip file on my storage card through my pc then it will work and will open, but if I download it on my 8525, it does not work. I am glad to know I am not going nuts.
Frustrated.
It seems Pocket Rar doesn't work either for many of the zips, and I am using 3.71.
Maybe I need to try a cooked rom.

I am new to phone pda's and this matter has bugged me from the very beginning.
Searching led me here and the post from cejay jogged my memory as familiar and I have definitely confirmed this:
Many files downloaded as .zip will not open either automatically or as standalone zips, using the htc zip app. If the exact same file is downloaded using Opera mini it then can be opened using the htc app.
I had also noticed that zip files that would not open on the pda when transferred to my pc opened perfectly there.
Try pocket Rar, never had any problems with it.
There are a number of TP2 tweaks which require the editing or replacement of files - for example, there is supposedly a way of increasing the loudspeaker volume which involves replacing a file called AudioPara3.csv with an edited version. This file sits in the Windows folder.
I'm using Resco File Explorer on my TP2, with the corresponding shell extensions installed on my desktop Windows, but nothing I do will allow me to edit that file. Trying to overwrite it (by dragging the copy into the appropriate Explorer window on my desktop PC) fails, telling me that I don't have the necessary permissions. If I look at the file properties on my TP2, it's set to read-only. If I try clearing the read-only checkbox this looks as if it's going to work, but actually if I go back into properties again, it's still set to read-only. There's another (disabled) checkbox in the properties labeled "ROM" which is ticked - I assume it's this that is causing the problem.
I've also tried renaming the file - that, again, appears to work but what it actually does is to create a duplicate of the file with the new name while leaving the old file intact.
There must presumably be a way of overwriting this file, otherwise no one would have been able to install the tweak!
I have a similar problem with the weather database file - so I can't add in extra locations.
What am I missing?
Try doing it on the TP2 itself with Resco File Explorer. I do not have any problem so far. Not too sure when you use it on the desktop.

Several options in Resco File Explorer failed, but using the Copy To option worked, for some reason.
Don't think it actually made the speakers any louder, though.
You can also try Total Commander (not like it'll make the speakers louder, but for future reference).
Total Commander will work OR you can rename the original file, then copy the new one in.
I recommend (strongly!) the former since if you screw up you can fix it without a hard reset!
What is wrong with this file?
Hello,
I'd like to ask for some expert help.
I finally managed to edit an EXE file from Windows - just translating Japanese text to English. I used the MEditor suite. After saving, I "dropped" the file onto the SignCode.exe as per instructions.
When I transferred the file to its original location and overwrote the original one, I get:
"Cannot open... A critical component is either missing or cannot start because program memory is unavailable...."
I am sure I didn't change anything else but texts. So what could be wrong?
I am attaching the two files - the original and the edited - for someone to please look at them and let me know if there's anything I can do. This is Sharp's Barcode Reader.exe
Thanks!
Hello,
I recently came across a problem on my Touch Pro 2. I cannot seem to open Individual E-Mail messages so that I may view the contents of such message. I am able to list my e-mails in Both Manila and the Messaging App (The app that shows up if I click "view Inbox" from manila). But I cannot open any messages to read them from either place. Manila DOES show the message preview when available though. I don't get any errors or anything when I try to open a message, just nothing happens. SMS still works fine. I also cannot reply to an e-mail either.
I've deleted the inbox.mst file, and the other messages storaged, and let WM recreate them, but the problem still exists. I have my message storage on my sdcard right now, so the next move is going to be to move it back to the device itself to see if that helps, but this problem started long after I had moved it to the SDCard.
Does anyone have any idea's as to what could be wrong?
I used sktools to move the messaging files back to the device, and then I deleted all the email accounts, and recreated one of them.
I am still not able to open any messages downloaded on these accounts. However I am able to open the "Welcome to Windows Mobile" e-mail message that is put in the inbox when you first setup the account... Short from a hard reset, is there anything else I can do?
I have traced the problem back to it's source, and found out that this problem may strongly have to do with the fact that I had used a cab file (located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=468953&page=2 - Post 16) to replace my original stock rom htmlnote.dll with another one to fix an unreal sms bug. This however damaged my ability to open e-mails on my device.
I have attempted everything I can think of to delete this modified htmlnote.dll file from my windows directory, including renaming, deleteing, removing the system and read only properties from the file with totalcommander, and I have tried resco to do all of the above too. I cannot delete this file.
I figured if I am able to delete it, when I soft reset, the rom's version of htmlnote.dll will be used. But again, I cannot seem to delete this file.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi guys

I had the same problem recently. Found out that BTTrayCE.lnk file was missing form \Windows\StartUp directory. You'll find it inside the .zip attachment, just copy it there. If this doesn't work try checking if three other files in the attachment are in Windows root directory. If any of them is missing - try copying it there. Hope it helps.
unfortunately all that files existes in the correct folders but when i switch on the phone a message appear concerning the file BTTrayCE.exe.
in the message is writed that it is an invalid application.
i try to copy your files but i can't.
i found that my BTTrayCE.exe is corrupted, but i can't overwite it with yours.
....any suggest....
File copy solution
Use total commander to copy the files it worked for me, Or you can hard reset and it should fix the files.
thank you, at the moment i created a new directory into the device and i did a new shortcut into startup.
it works...
Hi all!
I have a motorola Defy running on stock rom. Did an update through motorola software update to 2.51.1 Retail en CEE.
After the update it kept all my settings, apps, etc.
One thing though, did not test Motorola Phone Portal before the update, but it seems to work kinda strange for me (I am connecting through wifi on 192.168.1.144:8080):
1. If I click a recent photo in the home tab, a 404 page not found error appears. Can view photos only from photos tab.
2. Clicking on File Manager tab does not load at all. Have to enter the manager by clicking the link in the Photos tab (manager). I am using IE8.
3. I can`t rename, or paste any file in https://192.168.1.114:8085/webfolder. I can only copy! If I try to rename I get a no access error or something like that.
4. After refreshing the webfolder from explorer, all my folders look like they have appended my google username (ex: dcim becomes dcimusername, audio becomes audiousername). If I double click a folder I get a folder not found error.
Is this phone portal the same to you, or something is wrong with my phone?
PS: another strange thing: I created a games folder on my homescreen. Every time I restart the phone, the folder renames to default name, folder. I have to rename it to games everytime.
Managed to figure it out. I disabled Secure login, and it works flawless now!
The only downside is that it`s not asking for a password anymore. No worry though, I use it only on my private network!
