Needing assistance going to Straight Talk - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I currently have a Verizon HTC One M8 (s-off, rooted, custom rom) I am trying to switch to straight talk (ST).... ST is telling me that this phone is not compatible with their service.... I have read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2710606 and here http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one-m8/general/moving-to-att-t2845935 that users have switched there VZW device to straight talk.. I purchased a BYOP kit and am haveing difficulty getting anything activated.. Look for all available assistance....

They might be confused and thinking that you are trying to bring a purely CDMA Verizon phone to their GSM network (which is a common mistake); and not understanding that the M8 has both CDMA and GSM.
Maybe talk to them again and explain that the device supports GSM?

Will An Unlocked ATT Tilt Work On Verizon?

I know that a few years ago that it wouldnt work. Just seeing if anything has changed. I have the unlock code for my att tilt, but I am now on verizon. I hate my phone on verizon. And I am trying to figure out how to use my tilt. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not sure the exact difference, but I believe that due to Verizon being a CDMA network and AT&T being a GSM network, you can't use a device from one network on the other.
If I'm not mistaken, AT&T and T-Mobile unlocked phones are compatible, and Verizon and Sprint unlocked phones are compatible. That is to say, an unlocked AT&T phone will work with T-Mobile (and vice versa) but not with Verizon/Sprint.

Can I use my T-Mo TP2 on Verizon?

Is there anything I can do to make my T-Mobile Touch Pro2 usable on Verizon's network?
Root it? Unlock it? Anything?
No, the T-Mobile Touch Pro2 is exclusively GSM, and Verizon's network utilizes CDMA technology. You would need to buy a Verizon Touch Pro2 from Verizon to use Verizon's network.
LOL.
AT&T, T-Mobile = GSM
Verizon, Sprint, US Cellular = CDMA
You CANNOT use a GSM phone on a CDMA network and vice versa.
AT&T to T-Mobile??
Hello,
I just upgraded to HTC Evo and moved to Sprint couple of days ago. I am trying to sell my Touch Pro2 to my friend who has a T-Mobile.
My TP2 is currently running the EneryROM, so I am wondering what I could do to get this phone run on T-Mobile.
We inserted his SIM-Card but unfortunately the phone asked for a code because the network is blocked.
I think I can download the T-Mobile's official ROM for TP2, would that work by itself?
Any suggestions?
Thank you

nope... wont work.. you cant just install a rom on the phone and have it work on another network... The phones themselves have to be compatible.. like was said up there.. gsm phones run on gsm networks.. cdma on cdma... now that said.. arent the touch pro 2's with verizon and sprint world phones so will run on both gsm and cdma?? Although I'm fairly certain even if it is possible to get it to work on the network you want you definatly wont get 3G....
You're better off just selling your phone to someone ON your network... craigslist or ebay can be your best friend... and he's better off buying one made for his network.
Just my two cents!

First of all, don't try to flash the T-Mobile ROM onto your Sprint Rhodium, since that's a great way to brick your device (the ROM is for a GSM device, flashing that to a CDMA/GSM device will brick it). Sprint allows the use of SIM cards for any carriers except US ones, so what you need to do is Security Unlock your Sprint TP2, then flash this special modified radio that will allow for the use of SIM cards from US carriers. Only then can you use your Sprint TP2 on T-Mobile US.
EDIT: Disregard this entire post, I misread it and this probably doesn't apply to the actual situation. My bad...

AFAIK, the TP2s on Verizon are World Phones, but I really doubt that you could go and use a Verizon TP2 on a GSM carrier like AT&T or T-Mo. I would assume Verizon would lock the feature to do that, and that the GSM antenna is more then likely an underpowered or unable to really take advantage of GSM networks (3G/HSDPA, Edge, etc). I think they are only set on on Verizons end to do basic voice and basic features.

Apparently no one is READING your post. You want to take an AT&T Tilt2 and run it on T-Mobile. It will work with the following restrictions:
1. Your phone is network locked to AT&T. You have to either call AT&T and get an unlock code, or buy a code off ebay or one of the forums here. That way the phone will work on a different carrier network.
2. Having unlocked your phone, with a T-Mobile SIM card it will work - but only on the slower Edge speed, NOT 3G. AT&T uses a different 3G technology than T-Mobile.
I would suggest selling it as an AT&T locked phone on ebay.

Thanks Steve
Everyone,
I apologize for the confusion.. I re-read my post and I didn't mention that my Touch Pro 2 is an AT&T phone. (I was an AT&T customer and moved to Sprint). Sorry about that guys..
But thank you everyone especially stevedabi for reading between the lines.. LOL.. He won't buy it but my other co-worker is very interested. Need to sell this thing so I can offset my termination fee from AT&T. haha.

Why not just transfer the entire contract to him WITH the phone.. Then you don't have to pay a cancellation fee... Can they do that here? I know of a few people that did it up in Canada but have never heard of anyone in the states doing it. I'm sure it's got to be possible down here.

[q] evo rom for at&t

OK i hope this hasn't been talked about already, I couldn't find it. If i understand correctly...the EVO is a world model phone and is capable of both CDMA as well as GSM. I could be wrong...I have an ATT plan and Im sick of Sprint service however i love my evo. has anyone successfully made a GSM rom for these phones? if so where do i find it or would someone be willing to give it a shot? I might need to "repair' my ESN too. any input other than "I'm a dumb a$$ for thinking of it" would be appreciated thanks.
Impossible to get the Sprint HTC Evo onto the AT&T network. AT&T uses SIM cards, which the Evo does not have.
The evo is not a world phone, it's purely CDMA & WiMax. AT&T uses GSM for voice, which is the world standard. AT&T currently uses some variant of HSPA for data, I believe.
What that boils down to is that no, you can't put an evo on AT&T. The only other major compatible network is Verizon, which also uses CDMA. However, Sprint is the only carrier that uses WiMax for 4G, so you'd be out of luck there.
There's also the thorny issue of CDMA carriers not allowing equipment from competitors activate on their accounts. Some smaller carriers will take devices from other carriers, but I don't really know much about them.

HTC One - Switching from Verizon to AT&T

Hello, It is my understanding that Verizon phones are unlocked. have an HTC One phone that I would like to switch from Verizon to ATT. When I put a new sim card in the phone, it seems the ATT network is being blocked. Any thoughts?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Verizon uses CDMA and AT&T uses GSM. The only way you'd be able to switch to AT&T with an unlocked phone if it was under T-Mobile.

[Q] Flash T-Mobile Rom on AT&T M8??

I have an AT&T M8 which I unlocked, rooted and s-off'd while under AT&T contract. I then decided to switch to T-Mobile and give this device to my 11-year old son. What I'd like to know/understand is whether I can flash some of the T-Mobile Roms I see in this forum on the AT&T M8 and it work with T-Mobile network? Or do I still need to flash the AT&T Roms?
Thanks in advance for any help advice!
Johnny
SIM unlocked would allow you to use it on stock AT&T too if you choose to. Also everything seems to be interchangeable unless noted. I would go for Rom with T-Mobile's Wi-Fi calling, which is amazing btw for those who get sorry service.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app

You should be able to flash either T-mobile or AT&T (Even roms in the international section, I would recommend InsertCoin) roms without any issues. Eleven and has a M8? Damn, i'm jealous lol.

Thanks for the information to the both ^^^^^^^^ of you! I appreciate it. Yes , he is 11 years old, but a good respectful kid and does well in school. With that I'm okay with giving him nice things. If that should change, then Daddy gets the M8 back!!! LOL
Somewhat related question... If I u were to use an AT&T model on T-Mobile, would everything work correctly, 3g/4g? Comparing the frequency bands online, the AT&T model is missing the 1700 band that the T-Mobile version has. Does that mean the phone doesn't have the hardware components to connect to it? Or is it capable of connecting, just that AT&T doesn't use that band? I'm asking because I want to pickup a used m8, but the T-Mobile version is going for around $100 more than all the other carrier's versions... Could I just SIM unlock an AT&T version and be set, or will some things not work?

That's a good question and hoping someone will have the answer. In the meantime I was able to SIM unlock my son's ATT M8 and install a TMobile SIM using stock ATT rom. So far everything has worked and the 4G symbol does appear in the task bar, although I'm not sure if that really means he's getting 4G. I did have to manually enter the APN settings so he could get mobile data when not connected to wifi.
Tmobile apn settings
Would you mind posting the apn settings that allowed your sons phone to work on 4g and send mms? Its the main reason I'm looking into flashing a Rom and would save me a lot of trouble as I have spent quite a bit of time searching for one that works on my phone and none seem to do the trick.
