[Q] Question about poor reception. - Sony Xperia M

A colleague of mine has this mobile according to him the reception is very poor. Well he does live in almost middle of nowhere but he had an old c902 SE mobile which gave okay/better reception than xperia M can one do anything with it? I had xperia x10 once and I use tablet Z but I have galaxy s2 as my primary mobile and I flash modems to check which one is better for my S2 but I dont have a clue if such exist for xperia do one change baseband or something? Any help appreciated. thanx

Well i don't think there's any way to boost reception. Is he on latest fw, I mean the 4.3 baseband? Not that it'll increase reception or anything.

I'd guess so but I am not sure I'll be back with the info.

Signal drop / loss issues

My Xperia S seems to suffer from many signal drops through the day, not just a low signal but complete loss, then a short time later the signal comes back.
Anyone else experiencing this?
Mine does this.. but i do live in an area with a not so great signal.
Contacted provider?
Searched in google, forums etc ?
What phone do you got before the xps? Same provider?

Me, O2 on a SE Xperia Mini Pro.
I still have it actually, and never had network drop outs. But im now on Vodaphone so cant really compare the two to each other as they are not the same network.. or even on the same masts where i live.
There is 3 masts where i am, 1 is vodafone and t-mobile, 1 is o2 and orange and the last one is three.
Three signal here is so bad you cant connect indoors.
O2 is fantastic yet t-mobile is not that great and neither is orange.
Vodafone seems ok, almost as good as O2 so far.
But as said, I get a few dropouts now and then
This has been a persistent problem on the arc, don't tell me on xperia s.
That would be one reason why I would not upgrade if that is the case.

I had this problem in bad signal area, I solved locking on wdcma only net.
I have this very issue in my arc but not with SXS. The signal is fantastic.
[Out of topic]Between the arc's issue can be solved by flashing a different baseband which I did and still using with different SIM on the same service provider.

Yes, Yes and Yes! It doesnt seem to be a widespread problem from what I read so far.
Before this I had Nokia N900, Acer Liquid Metal, iPhone 4, and Samsung Galaxy S2 (currently sick waiting on main board).
All suffered from the hold the phone a certain way and the signal drops (though the iPhone the worst) but none dropped out completely just sitting on desk!
I upgraded mine to 73 thinking it might fix it, but its just the same.
I dont live in an area thats great for signal as its semi rural.
Best phone for signal was my N900

To be honest I am a bit disappointed in the Xperia S. I think as their first proper Sony phone for many years I would have expected them to think it through a bit more...the buttons at the bottom could be more responsive and I have found it a bit laggy

You live in a similar rural kind of area to me....I think maybe its the phone looking for a 3G signal and not getting a good enough one so switching back to 2G, but I would have expected it to retain a connection all the time.
Technology is supposed to have improved lol
I have this problem on my Xperia S on Vodafone (UK) and it seems to happen in areas where the phone is frequently switching between 2G and 3G. Oddly it's only started since I upgraded to ICS, never happened on GB.
any light on this problem ?
I am using 2G and it happens pretty often.
My phone was a gift and I dont think it has been bought from my country although its not branded. Prior to JB I had .55. Any advice ? It's pretty annoying as it affects both internet and calls, ussually lasts ~1 minute.
I live in an area with good signal and my last phone did not present with this issue
same issues for me as well, but the issues are more persistent in India !!
come on... dont want to change the phone
up
Try changing baseband, or wait 28. Weak for new JB update.

LT28i WiFi Reception is very low

Hi,
My Sony Xperia Lt28i international version gives trouble with wifi reception. The WiFi receiving strength is very less even if i stays near the router whereas my other HTC and Samsung does the job well. Is there any solution for this? Does any one face the same?

I have noticed the signal strength doesn't appear to be as good as some of my other devices but I have no fix.
I also noticed Ion doesn't have a good reception - both wireless & mobile. It seem to have some interference within the phone. I hope the custom rom will boost up the hardware.

I've noticed that the bars are lower compared to my old HTC Tilt2, both for wifi and phone signal, but I've never had problem talking on the phone or using the Internet even with only one bar. I don't think that there is a standard among companies about how to show the reception strength, so 4 bars with a Samsung probably isn't comparable with 4 bars on a Sony. So far the only place I´ve noticed a complete signal loss was a basement office where I've heard people say they also don't have phone signal.

Lt28h ICS for ATT LTE

Reason for making: I am really bored
So ONLY FOR LT28h ICS flashers. If you did the other LT28i ICS then you are good
a) I expect that you know how to use flashtool and have that in order (since you did flash the LT28h rom XD)
1) download http://dl.xda-developers.com/attach...39b05e/5067c79a/1/2/4/2/3/2/8/LT28at_i_LTE.7z
-------NOTE: I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THIS. it was made by greatremix http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=2454561
2)Prepare to flash in flashtool
3)deselect everything besides baseband
4)flash and boom you should be up and running (reboot if it gets stuck booting up the first time)
If you think i made a instruction mistake POST i know some people will argue over step 3 but it is what I did
What should this thing do? ...sorry for noobie Question
when one flashes the ICS international (Lt28h) FTF onto their Xperia ion Lt28a(ATT) then the problem is that one does not get the 4g LTE that they pay hard earned money for.
so the reason for this problem is the baseband...which is why i made this post.
(when i first flashed without this info...i started to panic. Dont want anyone to feel like i did for 1 day)

nope the tiltle is
Lt28h ICS for ATT LTE
the key Acronym is ATT (which is a service provider if you did not know)

Actually its only if you flash the LT28h ICS. You can always flash the LT28i International ICS and not have to worry about it becuase the LT28i has LTE support. There really isn't a reason to use the LT28h firmware anymore since ICS has been released. It was used before the LT28i and LT28at ICS release to get root and ICS on the LT28i and LT28at
The whole process of using LT28h on the AT&T ion and keeping LTE has been discussed in the Rooting thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1812168 but again it isn't really needed anymore.
Lol the entire time typing, I was like oh specter going to say something to shoot me down. XD

Just confusing for newer users as they might think they get some benefit out.of using the LT28h firmware opposed to the others.

Personal preference would be the only reason now.
H+ Displayed Instead of 4G
So, I just flashed to the LT28H ROM and I'm experiencing the same issue that everyone on this thread has seen. I just wanted to confirm that instead of displaying 4G, the phone now displays H+ when connected to a non-LTE network.
Apologies for the noob question.

Thats what happens with the international firmwares. It shows H, H+, then 4G for LTE. AT&T firmware will show 4G, then LTE for LTE networks. That is how it is supposed to be with those firmwares.

2G = Will be shown as G (aka GSM)
3G = Will be shown as H (aka HSPA/HSDPA?)
3G+ = Will be shown as H+ (aka HSPA+/HSDPA+?)
4G = Will be shown as LTE (aka LTE (lol))
Some of my information may not be accurate, sorry for misinformation

I have a LT28at and I am currently using the LT28h jelly bean rooted with the LT28i 3.7 ICS baseband flashed after.
I get
3G = 3G
H/H+ = 3.5G/AT&T 4G
LTE = LTE
For the logos above the signal bars.
I no longer get any 4G logo at all and started seeing the + after H, for the first time on either my X10 or Ion.
Even my wife's Samsung would show the + but not my Sony's til now.
And I have at&t for a carrier.

The LTE replaces the 4G logo if you going from AT&T firmware to other firmware(I.E. LT28H JB FW). It should just show LTE above the bars which means 4G. You can double check if you are actually getting 4G/LTE by doing a speed test. H+ is not 4G. It's just HSPA+. It's two completely different network speeds.
There is no more 4G icon now. Even on the ATT base band it shows H, H+, and LTE. LTE does work as I have been getting 21mb up and 7 down on LTE.

Can i download the normal Xperia HSPA ROM ? or Should i need to download the LTE Version again ?
because i checked in 2 phones there is no way to turn it off
Maybe you can flash only the baseband from the HSPA+ version.
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2
Flashing base band does not work at the moment. I am not sure why you want to turn LTE off as it does not really put much stress on the device. ATT just turned on LTE in my town and to be honest I have not really noticed a difference in battery life. I have not used my phone that much the past couple of days and at 32% with a up time of 1 day and 20 hours.
As suggested above I would try flashing the 3.7i firmware. The stock att firmware could be the issue with all of its bloat and stuff. Also the first few times you use the phone it will drain fairly quick until it learns the battery.

[Q] Low Wifi Signal

Hi, I have a I9082L and comparing it with my old Sony Xperia X10 it haves a Low Wifi signal.
Is there a workaround for this issue?
i also suffered from the same issue, i had a nexus before and it was really much better in the WIFI signal, and also when i compare my phone WIFI signal with any other phone at the same area it would be the worst and i dont know why !!!!
