CM install gone wrong - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys...
The problem:
No display output at all, even during boot. Just a blank (off) screen. LED seems OK, and I can browse the files on my computer (I think it's still booting OK, just no display)
The cause:
Flashed a (dodgy?) CM11 zip. I believe I flashed the Z1 instead of the Z1C version .
What I've done:
Previously, I rooted it, installed CWM (dual recovery) with fast boot.
What I've tried:
ADB devices: shows it as offline?
If I CAN boot into CWM, I can't see any display so that doesn't help me much
Sony Companion software can't see the device (maybe because it's not a Sony ROM?)
Any thoughts? Sorry - I've searched but usually you can at least see or use the screen!

Just realised I can get into fastboot (blue LED). Will try to update the zip via that once I D/L the fastboot driver.

People who prefix thread titles with [Q] then post in General instead of Q&A usually haven't fully read instructions. Extract the kernel from the zip and flash it using fastboot.

Thanks, I found some good instructions here as well:

Feel free to move this to the correct forum, I've removed the [Q] from the title.

Xperia Play R800i probably bricked

Hello guys!
I have been 'playing' around with my bro's xperia play phone, and it is (what I think) now bricked.
First of all it had android 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 on it & it's a R800i bought in Denmark.
Here's what I did:
1 - Downloaded & installed "sony pc companion".
2 - Plugged in the phone & got the drivers
3 - Downloaded & extracted "DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su"
4- Put the phone in USB debug thing & allow unknown sources
5 - Ran "DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su" from the file "runme.bat"
6 - It got rooted succesfully
7 - Downloaded and installed "CWM_Installer-v5.apk" [LINK: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437840]
8 - Replaced the recovery.tar file with the one posted in #557 [LINK: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437840&page=56]
The file is located in system/bin or something.
9 - Installed CWM through the application
10 - Downloaded the rom "XperiaPlay Ice Cream Pureness.ver.2.1" and placed the .zip into a folder (created myself) called ROM.
(DL: http://www.4shared.com/zip/QNPYzoYm/XperiaPlay_Ice_Cream_Purenessv.html
THREAD: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1822118)
11 - Rebooted into recovery mode through the application (CWM_Installer-v5.apk).
12 - Did this:
1.Factory reset in cwm
2.wipe cache partition
3.wipe dalvik cache
4.Format /system (in mounts and storage)
5.Format /cache
6.Format /Data
7.Install XperiaPlay Ice Cream Pureness.ver.1.zip
8.Reboot now and you are done !

12 - It rebooted and showed the samsung logo, but then just went black with a slight brightness..
Can't do anything with it now.. I tried removing the battery then placing it in again. The only thing that happened was that I could turn it on again, get a quick vibration with the samsung logo. But then the black screen again..
Hope anyone can help me fix this, as I really don't want to return the phone to my bro as bricked & ****.
ALSO: I'm new at this forum (& really anything to do with rooting/flashing/roms), so please if I have done anything wrong inform me! I would gladly post more info if you need it - but I don't know if I'm missing anything.
Your phone is not bricked. Try to find Sony Update Service software somewhere on the internet (Its no longer on the Sony website). You will promped to switch off your phone, hold the back key when you are ready to reinstall the stock software. Just follow the procedures properly and you should be fine.

Try using Sony PC Companion, if that does not work try to flash one of the R800i files from this link using the flash tool, again in the same method as I told you about the Sony Update Service.

For future references, how would you recommend me rooting this mobile? And installing the CWM thingy.
Hope you can link me to a guide or something - I seem only to find outdated/fake guides.

[Q] Regarding "[RECOVERY][ROOT] Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini (GT-I9195)" new Rootkit v2

[Q] Regarding "[RECOVERY][ROOT] Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini (GT-I9195)" new Rootkit v2
Hi,
since there is the "you must be bigger than 10 posts to submit here" barrier in the original "[RECOVERY][ROOT] Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini (GT-I9195)" thread, I have to ask it here:
Arco updated the thread with a new rootkit version, that replaces some of the utilities. So can I now just flash that, although I used the version before?
Is there an easy to understand guide for all of this, that explains what can/should be updated when?
Like answers to the questions:
1. I rooted my device, can I just root it again with newer versions?
Not yet done, but probably coming soon:
2. I added a custom ROM, what do I need to do to go back to a backup of an old one?
3. I added a custom ROM, can I just flash a new version?
Sorry for asking this, but every time I flashed something (e.g. router, old phone) it would pretty much erase anything that was there before. So no problem with newer versions. Reading the instructions here always make me feel like it is a thing of putting together bits and pieces and if one is wrong you might brick it?!
Greetings
Chris
That was the purpose for the FAQ I posted earlier.

Sorry for bumping or using a random topic, but I as well couldn't post on the original development thread because of the 10 post restriction. Sorry if I make a dumb question or anything, I'm quite desperate and have been reading tons of info and haven't been able to find a solution to my problem:
1) I installed Cyanogenmod 10.1 following their instructions, CWM was involved in there.
2) I tried rooting the gt-i9195L (the L stands for latin), I didn't do anything with Odin, only CWM and the samsung galaxy s4 mini rootkit v2, but I think I bricked my phone. After reboot, it just shows a black screen, button lights go on and off, and sometimes it shows a brown screen. Is there a way to undo this or any solution you consider appropriate for this?
Again, sorry for going off-topic in here, thanks in advance!

Black screen is probably because the kernel is not compatible with your device. Use S4Mini_RootKit_v1.zip instead for rooting. To fix the boot issue, you would either need to download stock rom from http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and flash with Odin. Or get a copy of the boot partition from someone else with that device, and flash it in recovery.

I installed v1 as you suggested. There was no stock ROM for Mexico, but I tried Puerto Rico (which worked without problems) and then reinstalled CM10.1 without factory reset/wipe data. Everything was on place, and phone is now rooted Thanks a bunch!

[Q] CWM and Download problem

Hi everyone,
tried to make my old gio usable ...
It was rootet long time ago with cwm.
I want to install CM11, so first I updated like described to tass 6.0.4.5 via zip from sdcard, because my cwm (3.x) was old.
But after (automatically done) rebbot the gio system (2.3.6 stock rom) works, but CWM dosn't. Pressing the 3-Button or 2-Button method a log appears and stands for hours while pressing keys. After releasing keys system is booting the 2.3.6.
So I tried to recover with odin - if pressing the 3-button to apply download mode the screen becomes yellow word "downloading" at black background - but with 2 PCs (driver installed with kies at one, with driver pack at the second) don't find the phone, only an unknown usb device *without* usb id.
I need some suggestions how to recover the device.
Thanks
dischneider
no problem!

get rid of all this kies stuff and install these drivers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956
make sure that it is a windows 7 PC.
Thanks for your assistance.
No, that dos not work.
The device isn't identified.
I have tried with USB-Tools: "USB\VID_0000&PID_0000". That cannot work.
But in normally operational mode or in "ARM9 debug mode" (VOLUP+HOME+POWER) it is identified well.
I have tried different devices, these will be identified in download mode to.
So I need another way to recover the device. CWM isn't working too.

Update: I found an old pc with a 32bit vista - there it worked!
Like described in the update to my last post I will confirm, that everything works fine now.
I resettet to CWM 5.0.xx, updated to 6.0.4.7_GIO (this one works, the 6.0.4.5 I tried again, seems to be broken!).
After booting CWM 6.0.4.7 I installed CM11 RC5 (stable build) from sd and rebooted the device.
First boot was up to 20 minutes, but now everything works!
Now I have to search for the gapps package ...
Thanks a lot for your help!

Because of not easy to find the right version.
I am not patching my phone every day.
I know the technics, because I'm a professional it specialist.
But it isn't easy to find the right versions.
I did find 6.0.4.7 and not 6.0.4.8 *advanced*
What do advanced mean? Is it working for my phone? Do I need an advanced version?
6.0.4.7 I found in a linked thread from -> this CM11 article. There was said I need 6.0.4.6 or above, the linked thread was 6.0.4.5! So I scrolled thru 50 pages of thread to find the latest - it was 6.0.4.7.
I did find two gapps packages too, no one is working for me ...
One seems to be working, but after ending the initial screen of the assistent (after language selection) nothing appears and nothing works, no menu ... nothing. Is it the right version? How to know? Where to find another? Working with the CM11 I installed?
It's not easy. Or maybe only I am a stupid dummy.
But the help in this support is great!
Everyone gives useful answers, thats nice.

you have to download recovery.img put it on your sdcard then do the commands on your terminal as exampled in the 6.0.4.8 article.
you can also flash the aromafm_gio.zip (advanged filemanager)
the article http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2691050
reason to use the 6.0.4.8 is that it is much more compleet than 6.0.4.7 and older ones (you can do everything that the older ones also the 5.0.2.8 etc and more)
you have to use the ............ 14.02.08-Gapps_YWOR-KK-GIO-4.4.2.zip .....

Root + twrp + bootloader unlock + twrp flashable stock rom - marhsmallow

If you are on Lollipop, this guide is NOT for you!
Almost none of this is my work, I just collect it and put it together in one place and I'm writing a small how-to get things done.
PLEASE ONLY PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!!!!!
ONLY FOR ZX551ML
Bootloader unlock:
Currently the only way I was able to get ROOT on the phone was by installing it from TWRP which required an unlocked bootloader, so the first step is to get the bootloader unlocked, to do this please follow this steps:
1) Enable USB debugging - If you do not know what is that and how to do it, you should probably STOP right here.
2) Download and extract: Unlock 6_ZX551ML.ZIP
3) From the extracted folder run unlock.bat (This will restart your phone into fastboot mode, downgrade the bootloader and unlock it)
4) When step 3 is completed, you need to run restore.bat
If everything went on correctly your boot screen should be inverted (white background, black Asus text). This was the most risky part. I only have my phone and it worked, but if something goes wrong here you might end up bricking your phone, so please take extreme care, always read the messages on the screen!!!!!
Custom Recovery:
1) Now to get a custom recovery, please download TWRP-3.0.2-M1-Z00A.img.
2) Put your phone into bootloader mode, if your phone is currently in use, just use the following commands:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Alternatively you can power off the phone, remove the USB cable. Power it back on while holding the volume up button.
3) once your phone if in bootloader mode please use the following command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery TWRP-3.0.2-M1-Z00A.img
4) Use the vol up & down to select "RECOVERY"
5) Use the power button (short press) to reboot to TWRP
ROOTING
1) Download BETA-SuperSU-v2.74-2-20160519174328-patch-by-shakalaca-for-zenfone2-6.0_(1).zip
2) In recovery select Advanced -> Sideload
3) From your computer use the following commands:
Code:
adb sideload "BETA-SuperSU-v2.74-2-20160519174328-patch-by-shakalaca-for-zenfone2-6.0_(1).zip"
4) Once it's completed installing, restart the phone to system
FLASHABLE STOCK ROM
If you have TWRP installed and you want to flash the latest stock ROM, you will need to, make sure you un-root your phone from the supersu app, reboot to recovery and sideload the zip. You can also copy the zip to your phone and install it from twrp. When installing the stock rom, your bootloader will be locked again, so you will need to unlock it (if you wish), also you will need to root again, because the root is lost. However the modified stock rom will NOT remove the custom recovery giving you freedom to flash whatever you like in the future...
XPOSED
Xposed on our device won't work if we have SuperSu installed. If you want to use Xposed modules you will need to use PHH's SuperUser instead. All files required for Xposed/Magisk/Phh's SuperUser are available in the Xposed folder.
Available modified stock rom versions:
UL-Z00A-WW-4.21.40.141-user-TWRP.zip - Updated: 2016-Oct-07
UL-Z00A-WW-4.21.40.197-user-TWRP.zip - Updated: 2016-Dec-16
Files can be downloaded from: here
Again, please proceed on your own risk.
Special tanks and credits to all the guys who made this possible, namely:
@sorg @social-design-concepts @shakalaca - For bootloader unlock
@jrior001 for the TWRP
@shakalaca - For the modified SuperSU package.

Yes I'm using Magisk, but even with it I wasn't able to use Google Pay. To get back to non inverted, you will need to flash the locked bootloader.

While essentially true the user can always use a different boot animation by flashing one via twrp. There might even be one somewhere of the unmodified asus screen.
Can anyone confirm the flashable Rom mentioned in Post #1 is MM 6.0.1? I ask because my phone upgraded itself right after I booted it up and I wondered if it was on a newer version than the downloadable one. Pretty sure the update was only security updates given it was only around 80mb.
The actuall boot screen is only a couple of seconds long while the boot animation shown

Well as usual the linux users drew the short straw. The shell script is for mac users. I decided to see about running the lines manually but never even reached the "danger zone". As soon as I did an "adb reboot bootloader" I followed up with "sudo fastboot devices" (some linux distro's need sudo..some don't)....and nothing shows up although I can clearly see the device is hooked up and in fastboot mode as well as the fact the adb reboot bootloader worked. I swap out one of my other devices and check things...they show up fine in fastboot....ok...so what's missing from this picture?
*update* solved by updating the ubuntu adb and fastboot binaries from here: https://github.com/simmac/minimal_adb_fastboot/tree/master/linux
*update2* bootloader unlocked, supersu flashed and verified. Much appreciated.
I ran the bootloader unlock and it appeared to work. Now it keeps booting back into the bootloader. I can't seem to get it to boot normal. Suggestions?
Nevermind, I didn't realize that I needed to run restore.bat while still in the bootloader. It is booting now! I was able to follow your guide and it is now rooted.
Regarding the marshmallow zip you include. I have a couple questions.
- For the modified stock version that will keep the recovery do I just need to flash it from recovery?
- Do I need to unroot before flashing this modified stock marshmallow?
Thanks!

I'm assuming the file is just for folks who are on lollipop who want to upgrade? Didn't see any need to flash it since already on 6.0.1 and have it rooted...unless I'm missing something again.
I read this after I went to 6.0.1 from Asus's manual download and update process. I can't get ADB to connect in the OS (developer mode never displays, even though it tells me I'm a developer after doing kernel ver. button process). I tried to get adb devices -l in fastboot and recovery, and it wont discover it. I've tried multiple windows drivers (including the one that worked when I flashed the firmware the first time) to no avail. Any ideas?

If windows doesn't see the phone when in recovery there is something wrong, this can be:
1) Wrong driver
2) Damaged USB cable
3) Damaged USB port.
When you are in recovery you should see the phone with adbm if you are in fastboot you should see the phone with:
Code:
fastboot devices
If nothing works you have the nuclear option.
Manually download the original firmware from Asus website: https://www.asus.com/support/Download/39/1/0/26/BXbNqJplzZiLmk6G/32/
copy the zip to an Sd card.
1) Now Turn Off your phone and boot into recovery mode by pressing Power+Volume UP.
2) Now in recovery mode choose to apply update from sdcard.
3) Now select the zip file.
4) Now wait until the process complete and then Reboot the phone.
5) Done!

More or less true, but somehow I was on a 6.0.1 version which is now gone from the firmware list of Zenfone, meaning I have updated from 6.0.1 to 6.0.1
Again now I see there is a new firmware released yesterday if I have the time I will patch that system image as well so it can be upgraded with TWRP.

I'm assuming the file is just for folks who are on lollipop who want to upgrade? Didn't see any need to flash it since already on 6.0.1 and have it rooted...unless I'm missing something again.

Yes and it works. I tried a few modules, but generally speaking I'm not a big xposed user myself. Nify doesn't work to well because of all the asus software on it and I wasn't able to get google assistant either. Android audo mod worked perfectly, so yeah generally speaking xposed work's

Thanks...that answers all my questions except for figuring out what's safe to disable. I put a post in q&a but no replies..the zoom appears to have a very small group on xda. I'll figure it out eventually.

Actually most if them can be. Here is a print screen of the ones I have disabled on my phone hover I have a zenpad z380c which I use as my car dashboard and on that one o have disabled almost of all of the apps, except zenhome, audio manager and the file manager.
Yes I was surprised to find out that there is almost no zoom community.

I'm actually enjoying mobile managers auto startup managing...it's done a good job of keeping 10000 things from running at startup that don't need to although "Startup Manager" would do a similar job for free. I'm liking the zenui launcher and calling screen so don't want to break anything related to that...the phone's been performing exceptionally well for days on end with no required reboots. Been very impressed. Previously been fighting with a T-mobile V10 and an Alcatel Idol 3...the v10 had spontaneous reboots...the idol had a stock rom with a bunch of lag in it....tiny to nothing development on both of those.
What about Zentalk, ZenChoice, PhotoCollage, MyAsus Service center, Clean Master, Audiowizard and Bug Reporter?

I use tasker for that, but yes I agree as a whole is not bad, this is my 4rd Asus product (Zenfone 4, Zenfone 2, Zoom and Zenpad) and overall I'm quite impressed with how they perform, just the support from Asus isn't really the top of the cream... they released MM when other were releasing N... so yeah a bit of sour taste, otherwise happy. And the camera, I think it's brilliant, not the best on the market, but the optical zoom is cool, as well as the camera app which allows you to do some nice manual shooting.

I listed a few apps in my previous post I wondered if you had looked at..it was a last minute addition so you may have missed it. I own tasker...I'm unaware of using it to stop tasks from running at bootup although I have used it to MAKE some apps run after "Boot Completed".

Generally tasker can be used for almost anything.... but I'm doing most of the thing with root+shell scripts, but yes nothing wrong with the app provided by Asus. I think everybody uses the setup/software he/she is most comfortable using... and there is no right or wrong.... that's until you are NOT and iCrap user, because that is the ultimate WRONG! )

Well from the lack of posts it appears you and I ARE the zenfone zoom community. Any idea where the system updates get stored after downloading? I thought in /cache based on regular zenfone posts but was unable to see it. I've got one available but it has to be modified for twrp compatibility as well as unrooting temporarily.

how to unbrick SM-T113 Samsung tablet

I would like to unbrick my tablet. It has been on the boot screen for the whole time. I was trying to flash TWRP, and somehow I flashed the wrong file. Now I arrive to the question, "how do I Unbrick my tablet?"
I have understood that someone should use ODIN3 to flash on Samsung tablets.
What I need:
*A video showing out to unbrick this tablet ( it can also be typed out) actually, (plz show me how to do it on odin since it looks the easiest)
* &
*The recommended files
-Thank you!

1. Download firmware here and unzip it to it's own folder.
2. Download Odin
3. Open Odin and tap the AP button. Locate the new folder you just made and select the file.
4. Tap Start and wait.
If you find a TWRP that works, let us know. I've spent a large chunk of today trying to find a way to put something better than 4.4.4 on this thing >_<
edit: The official TWRP 3.0.2 image for goyave works, I must just have had things screwed up more than I thought and/or wasn't getting the timing on boot quite right. Now, if only there were some decent custom ROMs for this thing...

I've not been able to find a custom ROM that isn't stock based. I found CM 11 but I can't get the wifi to turn on. Very nice tablet though. Wish I knew how to port.
