Sony engineers have invented some cool new technology, allowing its Xperia phones to know when they are underwater. Before you shout witchcraft, Sony actually uses a detector that generates a test tone beyond human hearing, recording the sound through two microphones on the handset for processing. This generates spectrograms with different values allowing the phone to know whether it is in air or water.

Pointless and may even be dangerous for your phone, anyway if something happens, if water is found in your phone, your warranty will be void. The water resistance if to protect the phone from accidents, not to play with it... -_-

Same message for me on Xperia Z 4.4.2.
I think these apps just search build.prop for Z1s model number, so you could try changing your model number in build.prop and see if it works but for me no need coz not going to dip my Z with some risks of breaking

Yup, indeed it is. I checked the smali code. It's just a fun app so no need to mod that anyway.

Actually that's not true...
Xperias from Z family are designed to be waterproof, 30min under half meter of water....
This apps are great time test device and if water find a way to your device just use your warranty rights.
Losing warranty because you did something that Sony said it's OK is not possible..
We have water markers under the flaps, that's the only thing Sony will look if you ask your warranty rights because of water.
Carriers and sellers are different story, I know you (just like we all) have problems with them but don't let them do that.
Close your flaps and put your device into water - if anything happens - return your device and ask for another one...
I'm quite sick of people saying and writing this kind of craps all over the internet.
Z family is waterproof and water resistant - period.
If you think your seller won't accept device if water finds a way into it....
Take your device and a bucket of water to their shop.
Give device to seller to check it (to be sure everything is working), then dip your device into water and test it.
If anything goes wrong they'll have to accept it back.

Change your build.prop to C6916, then it will work...kinda...because goldie and rainy-oke will force close
IDK Maybe they have designed it to work on a Z1 maybe it has to do something with the mic of the z1 or anything we aren't aware of

They actually make water proof cases so you put your phone into the case and still use it underwater if you are in the ocean or whatever.

My only questions would be do they make a bluetooth that is water proof? Also if your diving with your phone .... you have an addiction.
I'm skeptical about the screen being able to detect touch through that thing.
And it's so stylish!

i came here to say this, i ziploc my phone most of the time i go to the pool because i'm drinking and hey you never know what could happen...
i tested it with my g1, touchscreen works fine, but if you put it underwater the touchscreen gets all confused like you were using a crappy charger

Im sure it'll work fine. I can operate my phone with mechanics wear gloves on while doing yard work (changing songs) so this plastic should be no problem.
I do however wonder two things.
1. What pictures would it take in this thing...under water. Poor at best, but stay with me on this one.
2. What kind of reception would I get? I am tempted to go snatch one of my old G1s out of the kids toy tubs and take it diving just to take a picture and post it all while under water.
You guys obviously are not familar with the Sonar app, I think its called "ping" try it. Great for avoiding errant U-boats while diving.

i heard another cheap way to protect your phone underwater is to use condoms. LOL
i know this is silly thread..
show your Defy waterproof status here
don't forget to recheck your USB port and audio jack port is properly closed before you do this attempt..
make sure your screw is not cracked or broke, or the water will leaked in.
if you want to go deeper like underwater recording, it's more safe to ducktape the earpiece and speaker.
and don't forget turn off your defy after this attempt, open backcase and wipe the water with soft tissue if there's any water come inside.

Peoples defys have broken from water. I guess i feel comfortable with my phone since I take showers with it almost daily (for pandora), and ive washed it with water. but, after having my earpiece replaced, and having the side of the housing by the screws crack, my defy lost its waterproof-ness, and in turn, is now broken. My defy died from a few inches in a pool for a few seconds. You can read my thread about that. So if you see cracks by your screws, dont water test it. Also, id tape up the speaker hole before id try this again.

Sh**! If only your was not broken, then it would have truly become EPIC!
Its been replaced, so no biggie. The phone still turns on. there is just alot of water behind the screen. there is a hardware failure somewhere in the phone.

that rubber is not that good for closing it properly. have to do some tricks on some angle to close it properly.

Dive in lake. I did not dry it after or anything else... i got low volume in call straight after. I dont know is it connected but i get cracking sound in calls when volume set too high. Like speaker is loose.
Take a look, if looked closely, you could see a fish about 2 foot long.

does your usb port cap seemed to be loose?
My defy is NOT waterproof.
I tried to make water run through it and I couldn't charge it.
Then I got to go to repair at service center.
About two months after, inside my USB port cap seems to be teared as well as my earphone cap.

Yes same problem here, I need a new screen protector, (an original, not a cut to size thing) which seems impossible to get hold of, also a good case.
I had a lovely case for my LG EVE which clipped to the keyboard part of the phone to allow the screen to slide, lovely, nothing like this for the Pro
Its like this phone doesn't exist or something, even XDA are ignoring this phone :'(
Having said that, 'Mobile Fun' sell a nice Krusell case, though I was hoping to find something more colourful.

I ordered the white hard rubber cover and waiting for it..
For my Xperia Pro I only have a Zagg Invisibleshield, it's about 18 dollars on eBay (when there are some in stock) but you won't have to worry about your screen ever again.

I'm not worrying about the screen.. but the scratches and the colour gone on the back side hurts me..
There's a "Full Body" of the same protector, which also comes with a same material protector for thbe back of the phone.
Camera and speaker holes are precutted so you only have to put it on top of your cellphone, it's completely crystal clear, you should try it, my phone is still scratchless.
Does anyone have suggestions for an external speaker (Sony Original preferred) for Xperia Pro?
It's a shame companies do "iPod/iPhone compatible" devices when most Android devices have better, crispier and more clear sounds than Apple do.
Anyways, most of the time I just use it in the car.
Any decent cases made for phones that are water resistent and not a pouch? My heart broke a bit finding out the Z wasn't coming to the us in its water resistent form. If a case lets me use this phone in the shower I'll be so happy.

My friends have an awkward sixth sense in knowing the most inopportune times to text me (just as I drift to sleep before work and my phones charging across the room, in the shower, etc). That and sometimes I get on a real reddit streak and I KNOW I have **** to do but I put it off and procrastinate until I'm late.
And yeah, it's my phone and I can wash it if I want to.

LOL, I have NEVER wanted to use my phone in the shower, and don't expect I ever will. I don't need to be available to my friends 24/7.

It's a legitimate want. I personally could benefit as I fix and install carwashes. I'm sure others out there would utilize this. I also surf and snowboard yearly not to mention moutain bike and skateboard. With the water hazards that exist out in the world why wouldn't you want this. Seems like phones should be equipped with resistant shells. Much more viable feature HTC could have pioneered this instead of 3D technology that cost tons of money only to fail and end up a gimmick.

Thanks. While I may be slightly sarcastic about the shower I am in situations where a water resistent case or phone would be handy. It just makes me wonder if they specifically design phones with flaws that allow for more frequent insurance claims or replacements

HTC One has 3d?
No the evo 3d did.. he was making the point that instead of funding fads (came out with the boom of 3D in media eith movies etc) they should fund practical projects like water resistant builds.
My theory is anything that makes your phone too sturdy wouldn't get approval as income from insurance and replacements would significantly drop.

my friend you make beautiful stuff but i think because it covers the screen in landscape movie watching or alarm clock is not so good, when i buy my new phone i would definitely buy something that you make

If your device thickness is lower than 1.4 cm than it fits check out the item description on ebay.

Stand is made to put it on table near your computer or working space so that you can put your device near you. When i was making it i didnt think of landscape movie watching etc.
