Very nice review, my friend. I've been looking around for a good security camera for the home that is wireless. This one seems to have an AC output needed for power and by the looks of it doesn't seem like it would be weatherproof. Do you know if it can be mounted outside? Thanks .
Thank you for the review.
I've been thinking of getting 2~3 IP camera's when I move to my own house (hopefully soon). These look good for the price.
Do you have any idea if these work with Synology Surveillance Station? I'd like to manage the cams on my Synology NAS, and keep the recordings stored on it. Unfortunately, the brand is not on Synology's Camera Support List.
Do you happen to own a Synology and want to test Surveillance Station? Many thanks in advance!
I'm pretty sure they will not work with that system. As a matter of fact, I got confirmation that other outdoor camera from the same ESCAM company will not integrate with that app, but they are working on updated version, to be released soon.
That Synology sounds a bit too complicated, surveillance for professional use/monitoring. Sorry, don't have or use anything like that. I was very impressed with a simplicity of the camera above and will wait for their outdoor version to add to a few outside monitoring points (just to catch neighbors walking their dogs on our lawn lol!!!). For home, I just need it to monitor my kids and when we are away on vacation.
Motion detection
Hi, don't you know, that this Escam Pearl camera has motion detection, which sends pictures to FTP/e-mail? I can't see it in specs..
Thanks a lot!

Take a look at the one but last picture. Guess it does.
@vectron
There is a microSDHC card reader to store recordings locally, and you can store them on your Windows pc as well? Is there any option to save the recordings on a network share (e.g. on a NAS) (without a computer running)?

No, unfortunately it either records directly to microSD or when you click manually from a phone/tablet or PC where it gets stored locally. Maybe you need something more advance for what you are looking for. Maybe something like Dropcam, though it cost $200 per indoor cam and $99 annually to have cloud recording (I think 1 week stored interval only, for more you need to pay a lot more). This ESCAM solution is really for a budget oriented surveillance. They just need to add outdoor camera support to their app, and it will be pretty good. For NAS storage, it probably needs some extra security options enabled or something (sorry, have no idea about this stuff, so just guessing).

Unfortunately, it's not weatherproof. This is for indoor use or if you mount it by the window looking outside for outdoor surveillance. I see DX has a lot of other ESCAM cameras for outdoor use: http://www.dx.com/s/escam - I will request to get some for review, and will ask which one they can suggest to me that integrates with their current app. That would be an ultimate solution to have a split screen with multiple views of indoor and outdoor monitoring points. Btw, it supports more than 4 views, since i see Windows app with 16 views. DX, also has a dedicated page for this QF100 camera now : http://c.dx.com/collection/201408/e..._medium=homerotate&utm_campaign=20140812escam
I actually think this wireless outdoor ESCAM version will work great with it: http://www.dx.com/p/escam-q6320wifi...w-24-ir-led-white-eu-plug-318846#.U-zR12O5Q08 - I will try to get a review sample to see how it integrates with QF100 and common app control.
I do have and reviewed DropCam as well. It's a nice camera which I use often when my kids are in the basement playing. But it's limited to a fixed wide angle and after awhile it overheats because it's such a tight design with hardly any airflow (also for internal use only). The biggest problem - you have to pay monthly fee to get video access, beside $200 price tag.
But honestly, this QF100 camera is very good for $56 and has a lot of features. Definitely recommend it!

Thanks for the reply, buddy. I def agree with you. This is a great budget camera and I honestly don't feel that DropCam is worth it at all. I'm not a big fan of annual fees with limitations on storage capacity. A camera system should be straight forward and simple for you to have complete access to because it is YOURS. I really hope a perfect outdoor system comes. Let me know how it turns out when you get that review sample .

I got confirmation that outdoor camera they have right now will not integrate with their app. They are working on a new version of outdoor camera (I just assume the same guts as QF100 inside of their current outdoor camera enclosure), and I will update my review as soon as I get a sample!
Btw, Anker is working on their own version of "dropcam" ip camera, without monthly paid subscription but for indoor only. Will be interesting to see what they come up with (I was selected for beta testing, so perhaps will have my impressions in a few weeks).

Absolutely! Nothing needs to be configured, everything works by default. The day I had this camera setup and tested at home on my wifi, I was checking it remotely, later when over at friends house.

These cameras designed for internal (inside of the house) use only. Their housing is not designed for outside use, but the company is working on a new outside version that will work with the same control app. No need to use LAN cable since it's wireless. With power connector, unfortunately, no way around it. Need to bring out the wires. Btw, that is a common power tip on the connector and you can get usb cables with an adapter for that connector. So in theory you can power up multiple cameras from usb ac wall charger, like those 5 port ones from anker or bolse.

None of them integrate with the same app used by QF100. It's not just about the camera. You want to have different cameras connecting to one app so you can monitor everything at once, rather than use different apps for different cameras ESCAM is working on a new outdoor version that will work with their existing app.

Sorry, I only use an app from my phone, and it works on wifi and 4G LTE. I'm not accessing it from the laptop/web browser.
Is there a good alternative for Synology Surveillance Station that works with the QF100?
The phone app doesn't work on 4g. Status is connection and nothing happens...
Has anyone got this to work other than reviewer?
I largely purchased this camera based on the review here...What a disappointment, either everyone is receiving a different version or the reviewer is making false claims... The camera does NOT work outside of the local LAN! This makes it useless. DDNS does not work. I'm computer savvy have a few other IP cameras and this model is not accessible outside the LAN even if you open all ports on the router. Support requests unanswered... the app is garbage, this camera does not work with other Android apps either, a wasted $60...

I've been looking to see if there was a front loading camera, using the usb connection. It seems logical, that an add on camera to the Captivate, exists. And using it to film, on a usb wired connection, makes sense. However, I must not be able to correctly identify what I'm looking for. So far, a cheap, small wireless security camera, is the best I've found at Amazon. Does anyone know of a product that exists, that would be an add on, to let you communicate with others, face to face, from the front of the Captivate? I love the camera, it's just not too handy, not having a front facing camera. Thanks.
The captivate doesn't support being used as a usb host, and there is no phone addon cameras, I've looked. But google "one more face"...looks promising if some one would buy the"project"

No. You need a jig to hack otg. You short pins 4&5. That says to the phone, "this is an otg device". OTG is a usb standard for mobile devices to communicate with other mobile devices... camera to phone, or phone to thumb drive.
oh so the usb device would have to be otg compatible.. right?
when the cappy came out i thought it would be cool to make a ffc with a flash on the backside but noone had the knowledge to figure out how to do it. now im looking at getting another phone, not that i need one but i want to give the cappy to my brother.
adam you are just full of knowledge aren't you? well i hope a mobile usb camera becomes a reality even if i wont need it.
I just got to thinking about the USB port and cameras. I realized that it should be possible to rig a flash by using a 619kohm resistor across pins 4 and 5 on the USB port, and an LED between tx and ground, then sending 0xFF repeatedly to the /dev/ttyACM0 ( you have to mknod that device and reboot for it to work). Just thought I'd share that. I know it's a bit off topic, but hey.. it would be a cool addition to the camera.

an alternative to the usb camera would be a bluetooth camera. they make heasets with cameras so you can record what you see, im sure a product exists where you could fabricate a clip for the phone and communicate over bluetooth.

i actually was thinking of that one stoney night, googling around looking for just a flash, it wouldnt be hard to rig up, the hardest part would be getting the timing down, unless its used as a "back light" rather than a flash.
but you would be the guy to do it,
We need more Cameras!
I too would love to see someone rig up a flash or a camera for the usb! it seeme illogical to me that mobile devices dont have more use for micro usb ports, seems easy to imagine a whole host of different attachment devices.

I guess when you search for things, sometimes you find a 'maybe'. Looking on Amazon for some type of add on camera, to make up for the non front, I found this. It's called
'Mini Wireless Color Camera with Microphone', and sells for $31.35, and acts somewhat like a security camera, but it's small, wireless, have 150 foot range, built in mike, and has full color full motion, and a few other things as well. It says can be used for presentations and interviews. That said, isn't a front facing camera, used for that purpose, as well? I have an expensive network security camera, that I use to protect my belongings, and in truth, I can monitor it very well, from my Captivate. So, if this little fellow I found half way works, set it near by, and when you feel like chatting face to face, go at it. No need to hold your cell phone up, to do it with. Without trying it, it's hard to know the quality resolution you'd have, but for less than $32.00? Might be worth a shot. It's on Amazon, made by Generic, if anyone wants to look at it.

you say wireless, is it wifi? bluetooth? or radio frequency? if it is wifi or bluetooth we might have something.
The camera I was speaking of, is found here, along with others
http://www.amazon.com/Mini-Wireless...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1305632158&sr=1-1
and it's the first choice, which I noticed was about $1.50 less, than I noticed it was. It comes with what is mentioned, and the third, for a little over $50, has more to it, than the cheaper one. Basically, these are security camera systems, but are so small, could fit into the front camera strategy, for those like us, that bought a great smart phone, that WAS BUILT DUMB, without a front facing camera. Devices like these, open areas that might benefit us, if we think on it.
That camera is not designed to hook up to anything besides it's base station. The base station provides an incompatible A/V output. You'd have more luck with a webcam.
I got the Cable Matters MHL to HDMI adapter (no links- under 8 posts) from Amazon. Perfectly inexpensive, quality is alright. I use my existing adapter heavily; multiple emulators, Sixaxis Control Utility, and along with a keyboard and mouse I use it like a second desktop. However, sometimes video output ceases for a few seconds, giving a black screen on whatever you're outputting to. The video output on the phone is unaffected. Apparently this is a common issue for this adapter. While it's not deal breaking (it still works fine and only cuts out for two to three seconds every five to twenty minutes), I want to know if the official adapter has this issue as well. While it's twice as expensive, I may put down the money sometime down the road to replace the one I've got.

Have not tried airplane mode. Mostly, this is because I often use it as a desktop computer. Actually does the job fairly well. 19" flatscreen TV, BT keyboard and mouse, web browsing becomes a much more pleasant experience.
Mozilla needs to get off their asses and add an option to change the text size though. Dolphin works great but doesn't agree with some sites.
Indeed, that type of use shows the awesomeness of this device, i sometimes use Ubuntu, there's a nice package posted somewhere here, Firefox, GIMP etc on a cellphone is amazing. But enough of that ot, if airplane mode doesn't give you those cuts then when reconnected to cells try to position the cable in a way that it wont catch so much interference, i connect it to a 27" tv/monitor/tuner/almost coffee maker combo, and depending on positioning i can catch the moment when i'm going to loose signal by the tv's speakers catching the interference. Maybe you can find a position where it wont cut, i was able to position it in a safe way, so i believe it might be the lack of any screening at the chip on the cheap design.
one quick question i bought the mhl adapter from dealextreme a while ago but i´ve never really used till now since i bought a ps3 controller, my question regards image quality.
I am aware that the mhl adapter that i bought it isn´t the official but many people rated it high quality, when i play for example an emulator or riptige gp the image quality looks a lot better on the phone than it does on a tv or pc monitor, i´ve tested both, i don´t know if its just because the screen is smaller the image looks sharper but for example playing mario 64 on a big screen the image looks a bit squared/pixelated.
I even installed a pc emulator to compare (looks better), forced anti aliasing with chainfire and still looks pixelated.
The info that appears on my monitor is that the image is working at 1080i 1920*1080.
Is this normal ?
I have the official Samsung MHL adapter. It works great, the only issue is the display is a little bit trimmed off from the top and bottom. I have checked it on multiple TVs so I don't think TV settings are the issue.
mousiope, i know what you mean, it may be disorienting a bit, this is how it works.
The cable output is HD, but its only cloning the phones screen resolution when not playing high res videos, thats what produces the low resolution view on the monitor, so yes, it is because on the small screen it looks sharper. I noticed that on the emulators this is even more visible than on other uses, maybe the emulator itself is generating lower res than phones screen? never really looked at it. Try to change the LCD Density, its not quite the same than higher resolution but helps a little (mind tho that touchwiz doesnt scle properly with changes in lcd density, meaning it gets a little messy, small font, 4 icons per row always etc).
flippity, i never noticed trimming on my MHL output. Will check it tho.

My original adapter has cuts followed by a horrible noise. It was a lot worse when i used the charger that comes with the phone, probably the electrical distribution in my block sucks. Powering the adapter with USB power from my notebook almost solved the problem.
But it's quite pointless powering the cellphone with a computer instead of just using the computer's HDMI... In fact the MHL support sucks IMO, the only true 1080i/p is the video player, not even the photo viewer supports it! The other manufacturers like HTC, LG, Motorola and even NVidia had the descence of releasing an API enabling this functionality since it's not supported by Android itself.
Now that Bloodrainer mentioned, I never used the MHL in airplane mode... interesting...
Well, i get nasty noise in audio output when connected to a cheap car charger, so yea, i'd vote for your houses electric wiring, sadly i dont know much about electrics my vote would be to try a grounded plug with a surge protector?

Not really. As shown in the pics in first post,I have one showing both the note and tv with a stop watch app, the lag is around 100ms.
Using MX player hardware mode, video only shows on tv but and subs only showing on note.
Using software mode, video and subs showing on both.
Using stock video player, it automatically becomes DLNA mode instead of mirroring. Good thing is DLNA mode is fullscreen while mirror mode is not.
This is encouraging- I've been able to get the ASCD to work with a rooted kernel but would like an alternate dongle that doesn't cost $80 that I can use on the road with.
So looking around on Amazon I've ordered one of these. (I don't know when I'll get to review it, though- as it must literally be coming via "Slow boat from China" as Amazon estimates I'll get it between 3-6 weeks from now!)

The All-Share Cast Dongle (the Samsung one).
audio/video lag
I have the ASCD and use it with my rooted S4 just fine except for one thing. When I sgare netflix or any video there is a noticeable lag in the audio and when the actors/actresses actually speak so its like a bad old karate movie where the mouths just never match up. Any suggestions as no one else here has reported a lag like this. Thanks

Yeah, two things to try:
- you're going to have to get the ASCD closer to your Note; what you're describing sounds like a low-bitrate connection
- Try a different video player; I haven't tried using NF with the ASCD, but I do know while the Archos Video Player will have that same audio/video sync issue, the Dice Player (for example) doesn't (I think it depends on the output method the App uses).
Can also try to change your home wireless wifi channel to another band. It could simply be interference.
The miracast dongle that I've posted comes in 2 modes: Mirror and AP. AP being DLNA mode which is more stable, you can try mainly for streaming videos.
To switch to DLNA mode, press the button on the dongle. Use Bubbleupnp as a server to stream videos over to the dongle. I have yet to find a solution to external subtitles though.
A check in other DLNA providers in other forums simply say use MKV with embedded subtitles for DLNA solutions. Bugger.
Btw using Note's built in video player will use auto 'DLNA mode' without switching the dongle. Its much smoother than Mxplayer.

Well, it finally showed up * - and while it's tempermental (can take a couple of tries to finally "click"), it does work out-of-the-box with AllShare Cast. I do like the status screen while connecting, too. I haven't tried the DLNA option yet, will review that later. I see the price has gone up, though- I only paid $25 all-in for mine.
* - it arrived at the PO on the 9th, but sat there for 10 more days until I'd looked on the Amazon site wondering where it was and figured out the Post Office for my office (where I'd had it delivered) hadn't tried to resend it (nor left a note) after trying a Saturday delivery.

... and you get what you pay for; the micro-USB connector that powers it up has already shifted loose, so the charger has to be jiggled a bit to make it stay powered up. Ah well, $25
It's easy to disassemble (the case just snaps apart), so I might try re-soldering the connector myself.
So, I kept trying other adaptors. This $30 (on sale) Rocketfish Miracast Receiver from BestBuy didn't work (would connect, but immediately disconnect) but if you can find a Netgear PTV 3000 on sale (I paid $40 for a refurb off an Amazon Store; they're usually ~$80) I'd get one of these- it works even better than the Sammy AllShare Cast Dongle, with better connection reliability (it's got a 5GHz radio, not sure if the ASCD does, but it's gotta help) and due to that seems to have less lag, and less "mushiness" on video.

Do let us know how the Netgear works out. I have changed my home wifi to 5ghz to reduce interference with my 2.4ghz devices but I doubt that is helping much since I am staying in an apartment. On my laptop, I am seeing around 13 of my neighbours wifi.
The miracast that I have works fine in DLNA, but I would really prefer the mirror to be smooth.
I'm probably going to wait to see how the mirroring in Chromecast works out:

Any idea if the PTV3000 is affected by the HDCP issues the ASCD was hit by after the firmware update to ME29? If the PTV3000 can output to legacy non HDCP compliant kit like digital to anlaogue converters feeding a VGA signal to data projectors I reckon I would get one to replace the ASCD with a Cable Matters HDCP stripper.
Hi.
Is there any good dash cam compatible with android head units which have decent quality.
Thanks
Are you asking for a USB camera that will work? If so I have this one and it works well excep in low light:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YCDHQ8K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The same brand makes some nicer ones but they were more and I am cheap. They are very small 3 or 4 cm square but you need to come up with your own mounting.
If you are asking for software, I like Daily Roads Voyager. The free version does everything I need and seems to work well.
I have had a problem with my setup when it gets really hot in the car the camera wont work till it cools down and I do a reboot. But this only happens when the car is parked in the sun and it get to about 120F inside (what the cabin temp says on dash)

no. i wanted some USB camera which is better than the one the manufacture provides. i was looking at them camera modules and they seem good. would be great if there was any proper dash cam though
I just ordered this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01C05CQ1S/ref=pe_385721_145348961_TE_item
It's from the same company, but it's 1080p and 170 degrees angle. I hope that it works!
My plan is to hide it inside the rear view mirror of my 2006 Audi A4. I live in Bulgaria and I see crazy ʇᴉɥs almost on a daily basis now!
Dash Cam
Let me know when u find any.
I was not sure where to post this because I kindof hijacked the Honda Connect Android thread with alternative solutions so I decided to create a new thread here as it seems more apropriate. I hope this will help others decide on an aftermarket unit that suit their needs.
The unit I bought and pictures with comments.

I forgot to mention, there are no issues with porlarized sunglasses (vision impaired like I have, or regular). Usually LCD screens are polarized so if you have polarized glasses you only see the full display colors and brightness at a fixed angle 0 or 90 degrees (head straight or tilted to one side). This unit does not suffer from this issue like older phones did. (after posting I noticed I did mention this in my previous note )
28.10.2018
I'm really happy with the unit:
- response time is as fast as you expect it to be (as in touch - do stuff vs. click - you got it, hold on it's comming, almost there, just keep spinning windows/macos stuff)
- display is bright/direct sunlight, polarized sunglasses not an issue
- you can disable most of the inputs that source (steerwheel button) cycles through, except of A/V in (which I think is the LaneWatch camera)
- switching between radio, music, Waze and other apps is instant
- Waze only crashed once during a 450km ride, in the same area it crashes on my phone as well ... really Google ?
In the end I guess it's all about personal prefference about the preinstalled software which you can replace with apps from play store (or other sources) to your liking, so I'm not gonna comment on that as most of the defaults are fine for me it's fine. There are however a vew caveats to consider:
- Since I don't use my google account and created a new one for the unit I don't have access to my contacts. Altho the unit syncs your contacts via bluetooth to the phone app, 'OK Google' cannot use that.
- The default phone app does not have any favourites options, so your best bet is to use the last recent calls. But that list is not synced with your phone, it's only the list from when your phone was connected with the car (tried MTCDTelephonyBridge, did not work).
- There are some volume issues which I could not figure out (yet ). Navigation volume is set on MIXIN and has a range from -10 to + 10. At first I had it on -5, it was very low, then I moved to +7, fine for a while until it became too loud, lowerd to +5 and it was very low, bumped it again to +7 and it was the same low. I wish they would do the 'smart' thing like the original HU and just output navigation to front left speaker (that's the only clever thing I noticed in the decade old default Honda unit)
- Only one screw can be used to fix the unit, the original ones don't fit as they have huge integrated washers. You don't really need to fix it as it won't go anywhere but still, worth mentioning. Also I wanted to insulate all the cables with the same kind of foam that you find around air conditioning pipes, so that the cables don't touch the back plate of the unit. After taking the dashboard off again, I realized there is a ton of space there so the cables will not touch the back of the unit holding the radiator, which anyway is just for the TDA amp, so there was no reason to. If you go for a 2din unit, extra space will be smaller but still plenty of room on the bottom part.

A few notes of my initial experience after installing the new unit:
1. First and most important for me, the 2 USB ports of the car have different connectors (mindblown). They look the same, but one of them has a different gap (or slit, not sure of the exact word) in one of the corners as you can see in this picture. The adapter provided only fits the gray connector. I'm not sure if the 2nd adapter that I ordered will fit the green one or not (maybe with some tunning it will fit). Now, it's not that important for everyone as you can still very easy pull the 2 other USB ports in the glove compartment (which I did), but now I have 2 unused slots: USB and HDMI.
2. For OCD types, the unit I got has a 9" screen (instead of 8" as described) so the frame that holds the part of the dashboard that you need to remove in order to install the HU stands on top of the screen covering the right part of the screen bezel and the 2nd mic instead of being around the screen (I hope that makes sense). The front pannel itself (bezels included) is a bit larger than the hole in the dashboard. This results in the actual screen being buried about 1cm below the dashboard line (about 5mm more than the original one). This interfeers a bit with the access to the 'hardware' buttons on the left side, but as a driver you don't need them as you can do all that from the steering wheel controlls. One side benefit could be that there is less sunlight hitting the screen. I will update with daytime pictures.
3. There are only 2 screws that can fix the new unit, but the original ones don't fit because of the embeded washers (which can not be removed from the screws ... why ????). The unit will not go anyware thanks to the fitting holes and the dashboard being linked with frame I mentioned before. I will still go look for some replacement screws, just in case.
4. Time for the good part. The difference between the original unit and this one ... day and night. Everithing is so fast and works as it's supposed to. Even the cold boot seems faster (20s or so) than the hot start of the original unit. I still have to test the ergonomics while driving and the long term stability of the whole system, but the first impressions are very positive. You would still have to configure a few things here and there to match you preferences or missing features (like proportion between navigation and music and sound level for different sources - like music and bluetooth, missing lane watch camera - which defaults to on and when you signal right unit will show a warning because of missing camera signal, direction lines when using the reverse camera - which are off by default etc.). There are a ton of options to configure. Plus you get some extra stuff like status of open doors, status of parking sensors, AC feedback (it also has an app for control but does not seem to do anything, I will dig deeper at some point but I don't find it that usefull, still cool tho), automatic door locking when you pass a set speed limit (I have not tested this yet), and probably some others which I am eager to discover.
I will update this post to share my experience with the new unit.

Could you be more specific ? There is a link to the unit I bought and pictures in the first post. I'm not saing I'm not happy with the unit, the small differences don't bother me, but others might be bugged by those details. Overall I'm just sharing my experience while highlighting differences between expectations (aka product description) and reality
@ kind3r: bought one for my CRV also.. got the same issue with those 3 connections I think its the 2 usb & 1 hdmi connection in the console box of our car. I'm currently looking for a solution for the AC control, and IMID display setting for the steering wheel. I haven't really tinkered with the setting so maybe its just setting or connection issue. Could you pls. update me if you discover the AC thing or other features that you have unlock with your unit.

At the Dasaita Official Store they sell it as a 9" unit.
At the MTKNAVI Store they sell the "same" units.
Main advantage of MTKNAVI store: they ship from EU/Germany. Means no trouble about custom and taxes.

I think it's just so that they only fit one way so service people don't reverse them. Both did the same charging and connection, mirrorlink etc. so I can't really tell if there is actually a difference between them.
The only way I see a connection with the IMID display (mine is next to the speedometer) is via the canbus. I think that traffic is encrypted tho because I saw no mention about it anywhere so far. I'm not even sure if you can set the clock. I will do some more research on the subject.
My unit has an AC app, but it does not control anything. I will dig into that as well, tho I don't find it useful.

Yes, all wheel buttons work but some with different functions. Hangup button also works as back, source switches between a lot of (some useless for me) apps like the ones for AV inputs but the navigation app is not included (I wish you could set a list of apps to cycle through), the task switcher that used to switch between nav, audio and phone now is the home button, the shortcut button acts as the old android menu button and the voice command does mute. There is no long press 2nd function except for left and right in radio app. I guess installing MTCDTools could improve the situation but I'm ok with the standard config.

Yeah, the taxes thing was a big advantage for me as they usually ship with DHL so you have to pay custom tax and also DHL tax for handling custom tax for you. Using adapter cables. So one can use the inbuilt microphone and GPS module. We just have to find the correct cables via ebay, Aliexpress...
@kind3r
did you found a connector at the Dasaita harness with 12pin (instead of 14pin at EU version of Connect unit)? That must be connector D in the attached file. Found this info in a german HRV forum. He didn't use this connector (no problems so far).

Wow, nice find. I was actually looking for that before buying a unit but could not find any schematics.
The back pannel arrangement of the connectors is not similar to my original unit see a picture of the back of mine here, but connectors seem to be more or less the same. Now, not all the connectors on the car have a corespondend on the harness and viceversa. The connector you are reffering to must be the Sirius XM receiver (? satelite radio) which as far as I know is not available in EU. Also, the USB connectors look the same in your document but in my case they are a bit different by just a small notch. What is the functionality you are interested in so I can tell you if it works for me or not.
On a side note, I have tested the unit during the last few days using the auto sleep feature, witch does not do a shutdown + cold boot so the unit starts in 1-2 seconds after you start the car. There is still a small delay after that when you get notifications about the SD card and USB stick that are being mounted so that's another 2-3 seconds until playback resumes, so it's still faster than the cold boot which takes around 25 seconds. But as android tends to be like windows on the long term, I will stick with the cold boot 'mode'.
As @HNDXCRV and others mentioned, I could not find a way to set the clock on the factory display. But as DST changed in my country, with a big bang I might add (earthquake during the night, could not sleep after that :/) to my surprise the car's clock changed as well. So I guess there is some communication from the HU, at least for time. My guess is playing in Factory Settings could result in AC being controlled from the unit as well. But I don't really see the point in doing that since dedicated hardware buttons are better than touching a display.
Some were concerned about the performance of the display in direct sunlight. Today was a sunny day, I took a trip to the seaside and I can tell you I had no issues looking at the display with my polarised sunglases on. Also the angle of the polarisation did not seem to matter as tilting my head did not do anything to the brightness level or colors, so kudos for that, it's a really nice display. At some point I was looking through the settings and realized it was only at 75% brightness.
Overall I really love this unit. Of course it's not perfect and there is some room for improvement here and there, but there are no words to describe the difference of (first and foremost for me) performance, sound quality, level of customization, size and quality of the display. Most of the small things that bother me are due to software ergonomics say like the radio app having a dedicated button for stereo lock, instead of something more useful (not that anything comes to mind right now). You have to customize a bit to your liking, I have uninstalled/disabled apps that cycle via the source button on the steering wheel, changed the volumes of navigation, radio, music, a2dp etc. to my personal preference. Also there are a ton of replacement apps for the stock ones, play store is full of choices if you have enough time to try them out, like launchers, dialers, music apps etc.
I still have to update to the latest Android version (unit came with 20180809, latest is 20181011, but with newer MCU 2.98_1) but since there is no reason to, I will hold off for the moment. I am tempted to do a full reset of the unit as there are some leftovers from the seller testing the unit like paierd phones etc. (not that it matters too much).
@kind3r
thanks a lot for your infos. Seems like this device is really worth it. I can not decide yet.
What I like to do if...
connect the original GPS (via adapter, found in ebay)
connect the original microphone (via adapter, not found yet)
Questions:
the radio has RDS fully working (channel names, radio text, traffic TP/TA) ?
is the Dasaita usable without internet connection (only radio or mp3) or does it throw error messages?
does "Ok Google" work? Or do we need the MtcDialer
Because of updates: maybe it's best to do it at the beginning.
For the GPS adaptor it will still take around 2 weeks to get to me so I can post some feedback about it.
I could not find any reference in the connectors for the integrated mic. I'm not sure if an adapter exists. At first I thought this will bother me but it tursn out it's not really that big of a deal. Sound quality is way better than with the original mic/HU combination.
RDS is working but unfortunatelly I cannot test traffic as it is not available in my country. The radio app has switches to enable disable TA and TP but since there is no broadcast for that ... they don't do anything for me.
It should not throw errors without an internet connection but for me the whole point was to use it with Waze for the realtime traffic information. There is a version of iGO preinstalled with Europe maps on an 8G SD card. I will probably buy a bigger card that can fit the iGO maps and music so I have an offline navigation as a backup just in case.
'OK Google' is working but unfortunatelly I think it uses the contacts from the google account and does not use the contacts synced via bluetooth from the paired phone. Since I created a new account for the car I don't have any contacts but I will add some just to test. MTCDialer did not work for me, it always crashes on launch.
