Battery Indicator - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For any else does the battery indicator take a long time to change from %100 when you first unplug the phone for the day. I feel like it takes much longer then usual for it to drop to %99 and then gradually show the correct battery life. This is not much of a complaint just curiosity.

Yeah the battery takes around 40mins with use to drop from 100% or it can idle for around 10hours before it drops.
Drops a lot faster after the initial 1% loss tho

I have noticed this as well.

Yup... and its amusing how people unplug just before sleeping and rave about how good the standby time is over night..

Noticed it too. I even thought I was some kind of trick from LG.

Its the same for everyone i think ye.

I got max 5 minutes use and it drops 100 to 99 and 15 minutes 100 to 90%.

Yeah same issue here. I would say it's a calibration issue

I don't think it's a calibration issue as much as a polling issue. It's probably the way LG is polling the battery and reporting those results, most likely, as to how it seeing the battery's remaining voltage.

Battery draining faster after calibration

I completely drained my battery from 100% until the phone shat off and then charged it to 100% again before calibrating the battery using the "battery monitor widget" app. After that, my battery seems to be draining even quickier than before. With the screen being at the top of the battery usage graph although my usage is the same as before.
Anyone else having that issue? I am rooted and running zedomax's kernel v2

Sounds about right. Every time I've "calibrated" a battery this happens. Run it dead the first charge. Then give it a few days-to-a-week before making another judgement. So long as nothing happens to your battery stats and nothing extraordinary happens WRT charging/discharge you will then have (what I consider to be) a well calibrated battery. If you don't like the results, too bad. I consider them more accurate than the very rosy outlook you had before calibration.
Myself? I haven't been burned by the battery lying to me yet so I haven't bothered to calibrate. I only do that when I feel the meter is way off base...which is hard to tell since usage can vary so much from day to day. Only when it is glaringly obvious that something is awry do I do this...mostly 'cuz it takes so long to get things back to normal.
In summary, yeah...sounds about right. Don't panic and just use it normally if you want an accurate meter, whether you like the truth or not I think you'd prefer the truth.

Your battery behavior sounds to be normal.
You should be getting about 1% battery drain per hour when screens is off.
You should be getting about 1% per 2-3 minutes of screen on time, depending on usage.
Evo4g and Evo3d were getting about 1% per 2 minutes of usage.
This phone isn't that much different.
When it dies after calibration, you should charge it to 100% without break.
Following calibration, batteries still take a little time to settle. Give it a week or two and you'll see its true discharging rates.
Also, I've never heard of that app. Use the Battery Calibration from Ne'ma.

Battery Life at 100%

Hi, My battery used to stay at 100% for at least 20 min with minor use after taking it off the charger. Now, it drops fairly quickly to 97% with the same usage. Overall I think I am left with the same percentage at the end of the day, but I was wondering if anyone else experienced this.
How old is the battery, are you leaving it on the charger for long periods after it's fully charged. Their longevity wears down so it's going to happen. But you can take some steps to stretch it out to the max. Mine goes from 100% to 95-96% in about 30-45 minutes right now

Thanks, Its about a month old. It is on the charger for at least several hours after its fully charged. Also, I am completely stock.
Just curious, is your device idle in the 30 min that it takes it to go from 100% to 95%? If not are you doing intensive stuff to takes it to 95%?

Yeah mostly idle, just running back ground tasks and such. Very minimal use.
Also I think leaving it on the charger for long periods of time reduces the life span of the battery as well. That's why it notifies you to take it off when it's fully charged. And I believe I read that somewhere else also.
But also if you leave it charging all night the phone may say 100% however the phone to prevent it self from charging the battery to long it stops charging it and let's it drain from 90% to 100% and slowly charges it back up. So as not to damage the battery. It keeps following that loop to keep your battery running longer so the first 10% can sometimes be misleading but it's nothing to worry about

This was fairly common on the SGS2.
The common way to fix it on that device was to charge it to 100%, then unplug it and plug it back in and wait until it gets to 100% again. Do this 3-5 times and the problem should be gone. It is worth a shot on the SGS4
This can happen when flashing ROMs while your battery is not full, though this is not the only way for this to occur.
I like that last one. Gotta try it out.
The kernel stops charging at 100 percent and doesn't start again until it guys 95. What you're reading as your percentage level is not the exact levels
Say you unplug at what you think is 100 percent but in reality it's actually 98 percent, the software quickly relays this back to the user and adjusts the battery levels accordingly making you think it just drained 2 percent really quickly.
The whole reason it does this is to percent over charging the battery. That will greatly shorten it's life cycle or even worse blow up your battery

Just witnessed my battery fall from 27% to 21% instantly? Is it time to return it?

I've never seen anything like this. My battery literally dropped 6 percent in a split second while I was looking at the %. Is this a manufacturer defect, would a factory reset do anything to help? Please Help.

No, not necessarily. It takes time for a system to properly calibrate the battery. You should always give it a few full charge cycles before assuming you have a problem.

This.
I wouldn't worry about it it likely hasn't calibrated yet, I've seen many of my devices do this, especially new or freshly wiped

You are overreacting. Large amount of power consumption in short time isn't unheard of. For example, it has been reported that phone searching for connections and syncing everything at once can cause large drops in battery meter. And battery meter isn't always accurate anyway.
If the battery drops more drastically and happens more than a couple of times, then I would worry.
My tablet does the same too it either goes from 78 to 76 or just skips from 30 to 26 randomly
The first day I got it, the battery went from ~50 to ~60. You read that right...it went up without charging. Just let the battery settle and it will become perfectly normal again.
Mine does the same, drop from 33% to 23% instantly. and while charging, it jumps from 94% to 100% too. But i do get 9:30 hrs use time with Chrome.
Still in the return period window, not sure to return it or not.
I think that the battery percentage sometimes freezes and doesnt update right. So once the software finally gets a good reading or update it will suddenly change alot. I had it stay at 85% for like 3 hours and was thinging, AWESOME this is amazing, then 15 minutes later it was at 50% and i was like, oh, damn it was just playing mind games with me.
The battery gauge doesn't really 'know' the charge state of the battery, it's just guessing more or less accurately based on a model of the battery.
It takes things like battery voltage, load, temperature, voltage change with varying load (to estimate internal resistance of the battery) to basically make an 'educated' guess of the charge state. There can be pretty big corrections of that guess - a 10% jump is very normal. It doesn't mean the battery charge state has changed, it just means the battery gauge has corrected it's estimate.
during charging, i seen that it increased 1% per every 4~6 mins from 1% to 94%, then it jumped to 100% from 94% in the next 6 mins.
It also skipped percentage 4~6 times while charging from 1% to 94%, 1% per skip.
I used Batterybot pro to monitor the battery, it will logs when the percentage has changed, that's how i know it was doing this.

Battery drops as soon as fully charged

If I have had my Note 10+ on charge all night, as soon as I disconnect it from the charger the next morning the battery drops down to 98% within the first few minutes without me using it.
It seems to last ok the rest of the day as I have around 60% left after 4h sot. I know it's not a big deal but my Mate 20 Pro would sit on 100% for the first couple of hours. It's probably just psychological, but it feels like it lasts longer when it doesn't drop so quickly.
I guess my slight OCD isn't helping which is why I always turn off the battery % in the settings so I can't see what it is, but with the Note, even if you turn it off you still see it every time you pull down the notification panel.
The battery calibration is just a bit off. My recommendation would be to ignore it.
A factory reset should reset the battery statistics.
Battery seems pretty good so far.

That's Android 9. I'm guessing you haven't upgraded to Android 10 yet? Wonder how's the battery on that
My battery percentage is similar. By the time I get off the pot in the morning, it reads 98%, that's generally anywhere 2-15 minutes in my estimation.
Mine too, I consider it as normal, the rest of the batt lasts as expected
Same here. But rest of the day Usage and percentages are still pretty good.

this is normal because samsung implemented a new measure of battery security and not let the phone to mantain full charge for a long period of time ,

Is the battery life normal or is this a serious problem?

I've a brand new Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite, but since a few days I notice that it seems that the battery is draining fast.
So I've done a test: I've charged my phone to 100% and used it until it turned off due to too low battery and it lasted 23 hours and 3 minutes.
But I doubt if this is normal and I'm kinda worried about it.
I've bluetooth off, and wifi is always on except when I go outside and then I use mobile data.
I use my phone for surfing, using social media, chatting, gaming, making nice pics and more.
So is the battery life normal or is this a serious problem?
is 23hr bad ? I feel like my one is always above 80% as it charges that fast I don't seem to notice the battery being low

I dunno
I haven't mentioned the standby time and the active time in the topic, and I cannot find that data anymore so that means I have to do the test again
I would advise to install AccuBattery app, fully charge the phone and look at screen off and screen on power consumption at the end of the day.
These numbers are "normal":
Screen off - no activity (over night or phone just laying down for a few hours): 0.2-0.3%/h
Screen off - the usual daily activity (moving around with the phone in the pocket, Whatsapp for web active, Google location tracking active etc.): up to 1.3%/h
Screen on - about 7-9%/h
I'll do another test on Friday as I said.
I'll charge the phone to 100% and use it until the phone turns itself off due to low battery and look at the active time then.
I'll post the results here if the test is done.
What were the results?

I'll tell it you once I've the results.
Today I've redone the test.
I charged my phone to 100% and I then I used it until it was 5%.
I got an active time of 5 hours and 27 minutes and the standby time is 18 hours and 1 minute

My phone is pretty new and I am using it more frequently these days. This leads to similar battery times like you describe them.
I did not do the exact same discharging like you did, but imo battery drains mainly during screen-on time. Over night it is quite stable and only slowly discharging.
Maybe power consumption is dominated by the LED screen? This might be the reason why Xiaomi has such an aggressive screen dimming implemented...
I think what _mysiak_ is describing above, is pretty accurate and explains what you are observing.

Unless your trying to calibrate the battery that's really stressful to the battery to use it like that.
Puts a lot of wear on it... fast.

I know that, and I used to do that all the time but when I received my new phone I changed my habits.
I'm now trying to keep my battery level between 90% and 40% or 30%.

I go with a maximum 80% cutoff.
My current target range is 45-72%
