Hello guys, I'm in big trouble i will try to be as clear as possible, first i had a good working htc one x running official htc 4.2.2 no root nothing just the latest official OTA, after a while i got bored and decided to root it and install CM10.2 i had much trouble while rooting but at the end it was succesful and i managed to install cm10.2 from recovery mode, after that was finnished it kept hanging in bootloop, after several manual restarts i managed to get to get past the bootloop to the main screen, after spending a few weeks on cm10.2 i didnt like it and wanted to get my device back to stock so i can sell it but here is the trouble: i searched on youtube and found the video: Unbrick / Unroot the HTC One X: Back to Stock - Cursed4Eva
I followd every step correctly, and downloaded what i thought would be a compatible ruu but at the end of installation the RUU gave me the message that it must abbort the update because i have a different version or something, and honestly i just cant seem to figure out which ruu is the correct one for my device.
here is some info about my device and i hope you guys can help me out:
version-main: 4.18.401.4
There is no ruu ! Get a nand backup from the collection in the GENERAL section
I'm sorry could you be more specific? Why is there no RUU? And how can I install a nandroid back up? I can't even flash custom recovery on it. I don't care if there is no android 4.2.2 RUU for it, I'll take jellybean RUU or ICS RUU as long as it's compatible with my HOX.

As i said there is just no ruu ! In the general section is a collection of backups, have a read there. All info is there, i won't type something here that is already written down.
You can't install a different ruu when you have a s-on device. Only s-off can do that but s-off is NOT available for the HOX (unless you find a shop that offers the service) so it's a nandroid backup or a custom rom. Downgrade is not an option.

any idea how to do that? because basicly i have deleted everything on my HOX and installed the original recovery and relocked the bootloader so now when i turn on the device it goes straight to bootloader, what should i do now?
Unlock the bootloader. Flash philz touch 5.15.9 recovery. Mount the sdcard inside the recovery. Unpack and place the nandroid backup in the correct folder (check the collection thread for info) flash the boot.img from the nandroid backup via fastboot. Perform a full wipe in the recovery and restore the nandroid backup.

Alright after a few hours I managed to finally get the device working I unlocked the bootloader, flashed the recovery, and flashed CM11 (I lost hope trying to find the right Nandroid backup) and everything works correctly like a charm.

Hi all,
I was on stock 1.26 then unlocked rooted and installed CWM.
I made a backup with cwm, and then installed CM9. I'm going to return my One X and want to restore the backup. My question now is, do I need and boot.img first before I can restore my backup? During the backup process CWM said 'backing up boot image..' So will it restore it as well?
Thanks in advance....

No just restore your backup, flash stock recovery and then re-lock bootloader.
Help (if anyone can)
Hi, noob here (registration wise) been lurking for a year of so now.
First up I want to say I am not totally new to everything, I have rooted, flashed all sorts of roms etc on other models but my issue is with returning to stock on an HTC One X. I am hoping either someone can help me or at least tell me no one can at the moment.
I have done a number of searches and tried various things none of which have worked I am currently romless (no os installed when checked last on twrp) however since then I have also tried flashing a rom.zip so no longer have twrp at the moment but hopefully can still install it as I can get into fastboot.
My device is on Voda UK so currently it doesnt have an ruu that I can find the only thing I found was this a 3.14.161.27 rom zip which I tried flashing but while it flashed it just stays on the htc screen (it seems quite small and didnt have a system image in so wasnt sure if it was even complete)
My question is can I do anything with a nandroid backup if I can find one to get a uk stock even if its not Vodafone (or does it have to be Voda) if so can anyone point me to a dl? if not can anyone suggest anything to try or am I going to have to try and flash a custom rom again and not be on stock until a ruu is made if one is.
Thanks in advance for any guidance

Hi,
Version-main is 3.14.161.27 (that zip i tried earlier was meant to be the latest files) cid is vodap001
Oke so the zip is a nandroid backup ? Of so, you need to unpack it !
Check here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975140
It has your nandroid backup, in the OP you also get a description where to put it on the sdcard !
With the recovery i sent you, you can mount the sdcard as a mass storage device and copy it over

so does it not matter that the version number of a nandroid backup is lower than my version main? (sorry for the question this nandroid backups are the one part of this side of thing I am not familiar with)
No that's not the issue, but the thread has your exact main version nandroid !

ok thanks I just looked at the initial post and saw vodap001 was lower than my version (hence why my question) but then searched the thread and saw the vodap102 can be used on mine and that is the same version.
Yes it should be compatible......but you can also restore a lower matching version and restore the stock recovery afterwards and update to JB again !
If you want to be 100% sure it works , go for option 2 .... Restore the lower one and update again

hi, i need help with this.
QUick run down on my story, bought the phone and found out that it is rooted so wanted to go back to stock and ended up getting it stuck on fastboot loop.
Im only new to this and found the thread in developers area with guidance on how to fix this but im getting very confused as to what i need to do and what files i need downloaded including ruu, im from AU and there isnt many ruus for voda 021 floating around. I would be happy tho if i can flash it to same rooted state as it was as long i get it working again.
Can someone give me some pointers pls, the way that thread with instruction is written is very hard for me to understand because some basic steps are skipped prob because orger understand them but im very nooby and cant work with it

ok, i think you've tried to flash a stock rom without flashing a stock recovery !!.
do you have fasboot adb on your pc ?
you need to unlock your bootloader and re flash a custom recovery
if not search the dev section for a tool that will unlock your boot and re-flash a custom recovery for you-all the instructions are on there.
once you have re unlocked and flashed a custom recovery,go into recovery and see if there are any backups of the previous rom (nand)
see if that works ..

According to the hboot (1.12) you need a 2.17 based ruu .... but i can't find it !
Tthe basic steps now are
Unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery
http://db.tt/Krlm4dPs
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975140
Get your nandroid backup there,(the vodap021 2.17) you need to flash the boot.img file from that nandroid with fastboot commands, then do a full wipe in recovery and restore the nandroid.
But you still have to fix the fastboot part right ? You need to install android SDK/java SDK and the HTC drivers. Then you have to put the phone in the bootloader and open a commandprompt from inside the folder where the adb/fastboot files are located ...they are in a subfolder in the installed javaSDK install folder

Thanks, it is beginning to make some sense to me now.
So first bit I got to do is the fastboot issue, which is tha last bit you mentioned right?
And after unlock boot loader than flash the recovery with one you provided in the link, tx
So that means I will go back to stock right?
Yes unlock, flash custom recovery, flash boot.img, full wipe in recovery, restore the nandroid, flash back the stock recovery .....
And yes this way you go back to stock and i will also give you the download link for the stock recovery. This one is the last you flash after restoring everything
http://db.tt/U5CK4noo
Then you are able to update to JB from within the phones software update menu
Ps you do not have to relock the bootloader anymore !

Please guys, iWe spent all day trying to figure it out, after wipe phone reboots constantly and when if boot screen it's not charging so I'm prob going to run out of battery in a couple of hours
You restore through the custom recovery. Power+vol , choose recovery. If you flashed the recovery ok then you can do from in there. Ie mount usb, copy over your nand backup and restore it. You may have to flash the boot.img using fastboot.

Sorry for bothering you guys again ^^
Finally I found some informations about updating HBOOT one my HOX, but I don't want to ruin it, so i wanted to ask you if I understood everything^^
My acutal HBOOT is 1.12, my main-version (dunno what exactly it is called) is 2.17.771.3 and my CID is H3G__106 (Hutchison 3, Austria).
Currently I am on ICJ 1.72.
I've found the following threads:
H3G BRANDED JB | Manual Update, Nand, OTA File, Firmware.zip [4/2]
[TUT] How to upgrade HOX with a RUU(hboot.img, etc..) after installed a custom rom
[COLLECTION]Stock Nandroid Backups for Different CIDs
Unfortunately I'm not sure which firmware.zip, etc. I have to use to update my HBOOT on 1.39(?, I think it's the actual version) to use ICJ 2.1.
I would be pleased if you can help me and tell me what to do and which firmware.zip, etc. I should use.

Well i would go with the nandroid backup (the one with from the last link) get your nandroid backup from there matching your MAIN number .... 2.17.771
You unzip the nandroid backup to the phone (read the OP to where exactly) then you flash the boot.img from that nandroid (located in the folder) and perform a full wipe in the custom recovery and restore the nandroid, boot it once to check the phone runs as new...all Oke, flash back the stock 2.17 recovery and reboot the phone and check for software updates.
And as for the firmware flash, the thread could not have typed it out better.....you need the part that says NAND H3G__106......
All the commands are in there and the links too

Well, thanks! I'll try it in the evening.
A last question: After doing the nandroid backup and firmware flash my HBOOT will be 1.39, am I correct?
Yes you are going to hboot 1.39.
But keep one thing in mind, only do one of the options. If you go for the nandroid backup you do not have to do the firmware flash......when you restore the nandroid backup completely including the boot.img and stock recovery you check in settings - about - softwareupdates for the official OTA and install that. The OTA will flash the hboot automatically and will update the software to JB

Well, it came to my mind that I only have the phone with the Hutchison 3 branding, but it is unlocked and I have another provider. Does this conflict with the option to do the nandroid backup and checking for software updates?
And if not, I think I have to unlock the phone again and do that stuff to flash a custom rom?
Ai i can't answer your first question, never encountered that before .... as for the second question, with a nandroid backup you do not have to relock the bootloader. So after the updating process you flash back the custom recovery and flash a new JB rom.

Well, okay. So I will just test it, and if I don't get any updates I can switch back to my old version of ICJ am I right?
Yes ofcourse .... do a nandroid of the rom you are running now and after that you restore the stock nandroid backup.
Don't forget to flash the boot.img again when you return to the old one
Well,
I tried the nandroid backup from this thread but I only get some md5 checksum errors...
Then I tried it twice with the backup from here but here I get sometimes a black screen (display is ON) after the htc logo and sometimes it goes past the black screen and comes to the screen where you see "HTC ONE BEATS AUDIO" and there it gets stuck.
I also did a full wipe every time before doing the backup and I also flashed the boot.img from the backup
Any ideas? :/
cheers,
z3xi0n ;D
I got simillar effect while trying to restore backup from that thread
And im actually in a boot loop for allmost two weeks, so i'll stick around for some usefull ideas
When you read the OP of the first thread there is a workaround for the MD5 error

Uh, my bad I'll try it again in the evening ^^ Thanks for helping a poor noob
status update ^^
Used the backup from here, searched for OTA update (got one), tried to install it. Phone switched into recovery and I got some errors. Looked it up in google, found this site and removed this part
Code:
assert(check_cid(getprop("ro.cid"), "00000000" , "11111111" , "22222222" , "33333333" , "44444444"
, "55555555" , "66666666" , "77777777" , "88888888" , "99999999" , "HTC_……);
After this I was able to install the update (in recovery, using "install zip from sdcard"). After the update the phone reboots and gets stuck on the HTC logo. Hboot is still on 1.12. Now I used my old backup cause I need the phone tomorrow again. Any ideas how to get the update fully working? :/
cheers ^^
Then i guess the update fails because you need a backup matching your cid too !
Because the nandroid backup was for another cid (O2 and orange backups where compatible with different cids)
You can try to only perform the firmware flash to update the hboot and then flash a JB custom rom after that.
Mh, okay. Then I'll try it with a firmware update. But I am a little bit confused because when I deleted the part with assert(check_cid(...)) etc. I saw my CID, H3G__106, in this part.

Hmm okey, well i can't shine a light on that im afraid, but if the nandroid fails (who said that the nandroid is 100% stock anyway, we believe the uploader on that ) your best chance is with the direct firmware flash
Am I right that I have to do it with this manual? And do I have to install at first this stock backup or can I flash the firmware directly on my acutal ROM?
1) go into fastboot and enter "fastboot oem lock" - the device will reboot
2) go into fastboot again and enter "fastboot oem rebootRUU" - there will be a black screen with a silverish HTC logo
3) enter "fastboot flash zip firmware.zip" (you need the firmware.zip from page 1 for this)
3a) enter the same again, the green bar under the logo should go to 100% (either after the first or second time)
4) enter "fastboot reboot-bootloader" to go back to your fastboot
5) unlock your device again with the unlock code ("fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin")
6) Restore your old boot.img (fastboot flash boot name_of_boot_file.img) and recovery (fastboot flash recovery name_of_recovery_file.img), make sure you copied them from the nandroid backup folder we created earlier into the folder that contains the fastboot.exe you're using.
(7) Reboot and you should now have Hboot 1.39 with your old boot and recovery.
(8) If it won't work we still have the backup ready to restore the old system, Hboot isn't changeable right now on S-ON devices outside of the RUU routine - so even if you restore your nandroid you should still have Hboot 1.39 now)

Yes thats correct. No neef to flash the stock recovery. Directly the firmware is enough. But reflash the rom with boot.img right after that....

Any succes ?
Well, now I did the firmware flash, put ICJ 2.1 on the phone and it works, but the phone doesn't get my sim card. Any ideas? ^^
Uhm well......does that rom needs a modified boot.img for the higher hboots maybe ? Just like the CM10. I would try it first with a full sense JB rom to make sure that everything works as it should, or try CM10.1 ?
Did you checked that the hboot is actually upgraded ?
Or could this have something to do that you unlocked it from the carrier ?
I had a lot of challenges getting venom onto my one x, now I'm looking to put it back to stock and OTA update for blinkfeed etc.
However,,,,
I don't have a nadroid backup to use. And everything I download doesn't work RUU wise.
My CID is VODAP001 and the version stated in fastboot is 3.14.161.27
So I downloaded RRU 1.29.161.13 signed from xda but if fails with error 140 boot loader version error.
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance.
Unfortunately not, you cannot downgrade, and the RUU for 3.14.161.27 is not leaked. Unless you can find a nandroid backup of 3.14.161.27, you are bound to custom ROMs. Maximus and Android Revolution HD are close to stock.
I see a nandroid backup for CID VODAP102 (3.14.161.27) in the nandroid collection, but unfortunately no CID VODAP001 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975140
I have the same problem as i didnt backup my stock rom and my version main is 3.14.161.28 and there is no RUU or nandroid i can find for this version and CID VODAP102

On the collection of nandroid backups thread there is a nandroid you need on page 163. I restored mine with that nandroid too. Go ahead and try

Tried those but it didn't work, fails to install.
I cant mount any storage in CWM either so had to use ADB push to send the zip.
Any ideas what im doing wrong?
Try Philz touch recovery and see if you can mount storage with that
Might have it sorted. Changed the driver on the pc can now see storage. I also messed with the folder name of the nand trying to make it easier as I had loads. It now seems to be doing the restore in cwm.
yes restore worked now on very old software...
can I install the OTA its downloading now or do I have to do something else first? flash a stock recovery etc?
for in 6 months time when I get stuck on this again yes you need the stock recovery installed to apply OTA updates.
Hello Everyone,
I am avid user of xda. I am using a HOX which i rooted 2 years back.
The Specs of the phone are as follows,
It was running on 4.2.2, HTC_038 [INDIA] ,3.14.720.24, HBoot 1.36
It was running InsertCoin Rom 19.0.1.
It was running awesome.
But lately i decided to go on Stock to give it to HTC Service Center to replace the battery
So here it began,
I began searching for RUU's since a month. I knew it is a pain to get this phone back to Stock.
So did a little research and found that we dont have a RUU for 3.14.720.24
Then i began searching for Nandroid and Voila  I found one.
After having an extensive research, i decided to give it a shot.
So i restored the Nandroid. and returned to 4.1.1 and Sense 4
Flashed Stock Recovery, Relocked the BootLoader.
and it was working fine.
I then checked for Updates as there was obviously going to be one for 4.2.2 and Sense 5
Downloaded the OTA, Tried to install it. When i clicked on Install the phone went to Stock recovery and in less than 5 sec booted up again.
I knew it dint go well. It just did a hard reset. Lost all my data. (I was not upset even though)
I was determined to go to stock.
So now i decided to downloaded the OTA again. Downloaded again. Installed the OTA and Voila I was on 4.2.2 with Sense 5.
I couldn't believe it. I was thinking it is so easy. ( Believe me, it wasnt )
Now i was running 4.2.2, Sense 5, HBoot 1.73(Culprit) 4.18.401.2
Now the real problem started.
I couldnt update apps from Play Store, Couldnt install new apps from Play Store. It was a mess.
"Package File Invalid". I read many threads and tried many methods (Clearing Cache, Hard Reset, Naming your device under Play Store etc)
But No luck. I couldnt get that working. I decided to do it again.
And i unlocked the bootloader and installed the CWM Recovery 5.8.4.0 again.
And then the Hboot 1.73 came to picture.
I restored the 4.1.1 Nandroid again.
Touch Screen wasnt working. MG: I am sweating.
Googled the Problem.
Found that 4.1.1 is too old for Hboot 1.73
Then i tried installing InsertCoin 19.0.4 (Aroma installer dint work, Touch wasnt working, Powered Down and kept the phone aside).
Relaxed Myself.
Found that Philz Recovery would work to install the ROM atleast.
Flashed Philz Recovery and now I have installed InsertCoin 19.0.4
Now People, I believe i am not the only one who is facing such a hardship to go to STOCK.
Can someone please help me going back to Stock again?
Things i have
1. HTC One X (Device)
2. 4.1.1 Nandroid
3. HBoot 1.73
4. Good Working Brain and Patience
Also, Can someone provide me a link of OTA.Zip of (4.2.2 - 4.18.401.2 for HTC_038) which can be flashed from Recovery so that i can revert to Stock?(May Be) - I googled and searched everywhere but couldnt find one.
Waiting for a Reply.?
Flash philz touch recovery and install a new sense 5 custom rom from scratch. At least a working phone then.....
You need a higher nandroid backup. The hboot is updated so the lower one don't work anymore. Touch drivers are updated so you need a nand that matches the outcome of
Fastboot getvar version-main

Flash the boot.img via fastboot and install the rom via recovery. Just leave the boot.img in the rom.zip. copy it from the rom.....
